Obviously the reviewer can't predict future reliability however it should of been mentioned. Alot of people unfamiliar with FCA/Stellantis products and don't do their research and impulsively buy this vehicle could be burned in the future. It's a good review in many aspects however. Great review, as usual. Pros: Looks great and some great options, plenty of power for the type of person targeted for this car. Cons: Very outdated powertrain, Very small gas tank, terrible MPG = low range = lots of gas station stops, terrible reliability compared leaders in this segment.
How is the powertrain outdated? Its a small turbo 4...just like 90% of this class. It has more gears in its transmission and you get AWD standard. Kind of a weird statement.
Yes it has a smaller tank but living in the city its no issues . Typically around 44$ a fill up when gas prices are around 3.99$ - 4.25$ with premium gasoline
Completely unsurprising that the Hornet is a full second quicker to 60 MPH than the CX-5 Turbo (coming from an owner of one). The Mazda has plenty of power but it’s old (fuel economy focused) 6-speed transmission holds it back big time, especially off the line. A newer/quicker transmission would easily help the CX-5 get to 60 as swiftly as the Hornet. There’s too much power in there, 250HP & 320LB of torque (on premium fuel) for it to be only a 6.5 second car and it’s been a gripe of mine since the end of its break-in period.
I'm against this sort of platform sharing. A brand should keep its identity. An Alfa Romeo shouldn't be altered to turn into a Dodge. Take the platform as a foundation, modify it, and make a Dodge that is a Dodge and don't compromise Alfa by making a cheapened version of it. That's what I see when I look at this Hornet. It's a cheapened Tonale.
It's not too bad...you can get black cloth, black leather, red leather or black alcantara with red inserts (all depends on trim levels and packages). I think white would really cheapen the interior and they can't go too fancy as to not kill sales of the Tonale even though they're in a different class.
Probably not, but will your Camry last over 387,000 miles with routine maintenance like my Pop's Chrysler New Yorker convertible he bought brand new in 1959???
Really hard to beat a fully loaded car comparable to cars of greater value. I think I would choose the trax version of the envista but would still take this dodge over both especially when comparing powertrains 137 vs 268hp and when the dodge get comparable gas mileage in range to both the envista and trax with a much more powerful engine.
I was at the Denver Auto Show and during the presentation they showed how great certain features were and they intended on showing us but disclosed the pre production model on the floor had failed. True Story
@@CruiseControl1 its tells you it was a preproduction model hence they work the bugs out and learn as they go before it’s released and then afterwards just like the rest of the manufacturers at the auto shows do.
I watched a consumer reports podcast on these a couple days ago and they were not kind. Clunky/surging driving dynamics, lots of torque steer, weird seating position, weird controls, etc
While this car has to fight a lot of negative brand equity, the reality is that underneath that lowbrow Dodge skin, is the exact same hardware in the Tonale which competes with Audi/Benz/BMW. Dodge has typicaly been cheap speed with bottom-feeder parts, but with this you get (relatively) cheap speed with a ZF transmission, the exact same engine as in the Giulia/Stelvio (and the Maserati Grecale base models!!!!). When in all of creation did any Dodge share the same engine with a Maserati?? The typical caveman Dodge buyer will have to up his game for this however. That Alfa motor is stout and powerful and has been running for six years in other cars with no issues. However to keep it happy requires Fiat Euro-spec oil and spark plug changes every 60K miles. It is basically an exotic engine and people used to cheap gas, Wal Mart oil, and ignoring the maintenance schedule will probably be complaining in 5 years their car is "unreliable". Its not the car that is unreliable; its them.
Why would they not just make an updated Dart give it this drivetrain and motor but add a 6spd manual starting at 30k. This car would be sold out everywhere. Awd , Turbo 4, 6spd, hatchback or coupe for 30k? The wrx is your only competitor and you’d probably outsell it. I hope dodge takes a different direction with this platform. Maybe since the challenger is being retired they will. I don’t see it as it is lasting more than a few model years before its dead from lack of sales.
I got to drive one the other day. It’s nice enough but for the price you can get more in any other brand. Definitely didn’t feel like something that will hold up and be reliable long term.

Take the platform as a foundation, modify it, and make a Dodge that is a Dodge and don't compromise Alfa by making a cheapened version of it. That's what I see when I look at this Hornet. It's a cheapened Tonale.
This would make a solid lease.
I wish they had better choice in color with the seats
It's not too bad...you can get black cloth, black leather, red leather or black alcantara with red inserts (all depends on trim levels and packages). I think white would really cheapen the interior and they can't go too fancy as to not kill sales of the Tonale even though they're in a different class.
A good review - thank you.
YOU"RE GETTING A DODGE!
Is the R/T going to less than 5 seconds to 60?!
It's just the dodge dart all over again. Reliability gonna go down in history as the worst
Will this vehicle last over 200,000 miles with routine maintenance like my Camry has???
Probably not, but will your Camry last over 387,000 miles with routine maintenance like my Pop's Chrysler New Yorker convertible he bought brand new in 1959???
Maybe a second faster than the mazda but its gona need it to get to the shop before it dies after a few years
If you're keeping any vehicle lomg you should probably get an extended warranty that will cover you up to 150k miles.
Very few gloss Black. I don't mind the aluminum plastic look, it will be easy to clean.
Looks very dark inside. A light headliner would go a long way to make it feel more spacious
My 2021 cx5 carbon edition lease is up in march... which ever automaker can give me the best deal cx5 or hornet.
I love the styling on this. Dodge knocked it out of the park. A little overpriced but If you could get a deal on it would be a great buy.
I rather the new Buick envista more bang for your buck at only $23k
Really hard to beat a fully loaded car comparable to cars of greater value. I think I would choose the trax version of the envista but would still take this dodge over both especially when comparing powertrains 137 vs 268hp and when the dodge get comparable gas mileage in range to both the envista and trax with a much more powerful engine.
I was at the Denver Auto Show and during the presentation they showed how great certain features were and they intended on showing us but disclosed the pre production model on the floor had failed. True Story
That’s why it’s called preproduction
@@XX-166 I’ve been going to Auto Shows for over 20 years and this is the first model that I saw fail, what does that tell you?
@@CruiseControl1 its tells you it was a preproduction model hence they work the bugs out and learn as they go before it’s released and then afterwards just like the rest of the manufacturers at the auto shows do.
@@XX-166Failure at a major auto show during the press release is laughable at best
@@CruiseControl1 man made items will always have failures.. you gotta live in the now and adapt to the future.
Alot of new cars have piped in sound from speakers mimicking an exhaust engine
Wooo...intense intro music.
We’re getting the new Alpha🎉🎉🎉 but these are so close it’s scary. However the Alpha does have more higher end plastics/leather & bigger info
Is this made on the Jeep production line
It’s been 5 months and no response. Hopefully you asked Google cause that’s what you should’ve done in the first place.
Too damn expensive. Entry level is 12-20K. NOT 30K+. That is not normal
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
Sweet PT Cruiser.
Love the exterior. Very meh on the interior.
I got to drive one the other day. It’s nice enough but for the price you can get more in any other brand. Definitely didn’t feel like something that will hold up and be reliable long term.
why would anyone buy this over a cx30 turbo?
Pre production? Haha no that’s just Dodge and their quality shining
With that finish, this Suv needs a catheter.
Nice but definitely mot worth price tags 🤦
I agree about the fog lights, but your turn signal opinion is kind of a nit pick - or
Maybe I just disagree soooo much.
Acapulco just like the city in Mexico 🇲🇽!!!!
Looks like a nice nifty little package.
I hate when auto makers take a car from another company and just rebadge it as their own 😒😒
A lot of manufacturers do this when they send have cars in various parts of the world. Ford, Buick, a lot of them do it.
@@XX-166 I know this 😒 and it sucks 😪 no originality, everything starting to taste so bland we need more spice 🤔🤔
@@mryeahisaidit ya gotta make different platforms for different geographic regions. Same money but you appeal to the masses along with safety regulations. The same things they have to do to send cars here.
The performance is very impressive for this PHEV. I’m impressed by how it drives and looks
The whole reliability thing is just not important. If it is you shouldn’t even be commenting on this video
Don't think anyone shopping in the $30k range is at that point of completely ignoring reliability lol
@@chibbyylolexactly
Yet there are 30k GM Jeep Hyundai Kia products. Yet those brands are selling well even though they aren’t known for reliability
As Doug Demuro says “I’d rather have my fun unreliable cars with my problems than ur boring cars without problems”.
@@BigAltimaEnergy719I have Mazda CX-50. Not boring and reliable. You lose...
Any Stellantis/Fiat product is a big no from me. Unless you just like going to the dealer with weird problems 🤪
So fast 💨
Love it!
