- macmost.com/e-3042 macOS Sonoma introduces a unified menu for video and microphone controls in the menu bar. This includes the ability to trigger reaction animations and combine your screen and camera input to create a presenter overlay. For the most part these work in FaceTime but also in other apps like Zoom.

A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary!👏🏻❤️
Very useful tutorial. Many thanks!
It's an extremely useful tutorial. Thank you.
Really useful, thanks Gary.
Useful and encourages me to play with screen sharing.
At 4:10 or thereabout, fascinating to see Gary's hat extend out and above the provided circle view of his image. Cool.
Excellent! Thanks!
This is a great tutorial.. It looks like it would have been pretty tricky to make, switching between both views 🙂
Thanks for this demonstration video. The presenter overlay feature has a keyboard shortcut to start and stop, but the shortcuts didn’t seem to work. Have you tested the shortcuts?
The shortcut to stop the presenter overlay worked, but the start shortcut didn’t. At least it didn’t work in zoom, I didn’t test FaceTime. I wonder if you had a different experience with the shortcuts. Thanks
Haven't tried them. My guess would be that Zoom is somehow getting in the way.
Gary - thank you for the video tutorial. For a Zoom presentation - how might one share a ppt presentation AND be able read notes for each slide (either by keeping them hidden to viewers or have notes in a separate screen to read)? Thank you.
Can you show a PowerPoint presentation in a window? If so, share that window. Then keep your notes in another window. I don't use PowerPoint, but you can do that in Keynote.
@@macmost - thanks for responding and I'll see if I can "split" the PPT deck.
I have tried it with OBS studio and though the small window sort of works the large windows doesnt work and the options are stuck and there is no way to get it off. Had to quit OBS and restart it to get rid of it. Repeated and same problem exists. I tested it on my Macbook Air M2
Hey Gary, have you figured out the reason Ft audio calls on iOS when screenshare is turned on-why they disable the mic and many times don’t let voice go through even after re-enabling the mic?
Not sure what you mean. If it isn't working right on your iPhone, I'd call Apple Support so they can help.
@@macmost I had done that. It’s an occasional issue(~50% of time) and pretty hard to replicate. But if you and I were talking on ft audio, and both using bt headphones(including AirPods), and I suddenly started a screeshare to show you something-(a) the mic will be turned off from my side automatically as soon as screenshare starts. So I have to turn it on manually. (B) despite turning it on manually, there’s few times either you won’t hear me, or I won’t hear you. Happens across all iPhones iOS generations from what me and my team have noticed. Only flawless times are when none of us are using headphones and are already using “speaker” on iPhones
I was able to use these controls on OBS Studio too.
OBS doesn't need this as it can do all of this on its own.
@@macmost indeed. It was the first time I saw these new tools. Kinda cool. Great video, BTW. You have helped me a ton with my Mac. Thanks a bunch!
Hi, Gary - i have noticed your videos on your website frequently buffer and sometime don’t even load properly when i try watching on my ipad pro.
Must be an issue somewhere in the steps between the video server and your computer. It is just a regular video file, nothing special. I don't have the budget for a custom high-speed priority server like Netflix or UA-cam.
1st 😅
I don’t know if it’s just me but after updating to Sonoma, I can no longer use my iPhone as the camera in the Mac’s FT. There is no option to choose it.
Try the usual things: restart, check settings, etc. If it still doesn't work, contact Apple Support and they'll walk you through some things.
and other video apps. awesome new features !
BTW this only works with the Apple M1 chip if you aren't getting these updates.
Sir, I am unable to share my screen using facetime. Is it a bug in the latest iOS version? I am on latest version of macOS Sonoma, whenever I go to screen share it shows me options to share my screen, window, app. When I click share screen, it even highlights the screen I want to share. But as soon as I click on the screen to actually start the sharing, it just doesn't start the screen sharing. It just goes back the menus but doesn't start screen sharing. I have tried it multiple times, I have even asked a friend of mine to do it and he also faced the same problem.
Thanks and regards
Contact Apple Support for help with that. It should work.
I’m having the same issue. Did Apple Support provide a solution?
@@PRocka33 actually as I was seeing the forums of apple I realised that Apple forums just provide tips like enabling the settings etc. for the mac.
I have been getting this error for a while now and I already have enabled all the settings for it, and this bug is not specific to just me, each and every person who uses the latest MacOS Sonoma will be facing it, I have cross checked this thing from my multiple friends.
Fortunately I don't use facetime much, and I just thing that maybe apple will resolve this in the future update.
Unfortunately, it seems that only Mac equipped with an M1 or M2 chip support this feature. Intel Mac don't support it.
That's correct.
good to know - and to confirm I'm staying with Viking Recorder + Keynote :)
you do not have to call another Mac. why do you do that and confuse people. this is bs
Not sure what you mean.
