How to Change Video Background without Green Screen

- In this step-by-step tutorial, learn how to change, modify, or remove the background in video. We walk through three different techniques. The first offers the best quality but requires an NVIDIA RTX graphics card. With NVIDIA Broadcast, you can change or remove background video with exceptional quality. For the second technique, we use a background remover plugin that you can install in OBS Studio. Lastly, we use Snap Camera together with OBS Studio to remove the video background without a green screen.

Great topic! I don't have the graphic card for Nvidia so chose the strictly OBS option and found that they now have a possibly better plugin option available that doesn't use as much memory called AI_remove_bg. Thank you and keep chopping!

As always you are back with a banger! This is by far the best tutorial for removing a background. I do not have an NVIDIA graphics card but you provided 2 other methods which are bound to work. I have been using OBS for a long time but never knew such a plug-in! Now I guess I need a new webcam to get high-quality footage directly from my PC... or I can use the method you mentioned at 10:20.... Thanks!
Nice! The plug-in is still relatively new. Hopefully it continues to improve with time to be on par with nvidia broadcast.
@@KevinStratvert I just hope that it improves in the sense of quality! Looking forward to at least 1080p+ recordings. But if I get a new PC I will go for the Nvidia method.

@@nomancricket There are many tutorials on UA-cam. I do not remember and such method as I never needed this but you can search for general videos and channels like that of Michael Freyer should have some.

Hi Kevin - first of all I'd like to thank you very much for your clear, comprehensive and informative tutorial on how to change backgrounds in OBS. The results you show using the Nvidia Broadcast are extremely impressive to say the least! Unfortunately, when I went to download the software, it doesn't appear to be compatible with Linux Ubuntu 22.04 - which is very disappointing. If I am right, I wonder if you could point me in the direction of an alternative please? (by the way, I work from a PC (as opposed to a laptop / mobile) - and I haven't got a Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card - I've got an AMD Carrizo with an AMD A8-9600 radeon r7, 10 compute cores 4c+6g × 4) however, I would be prepared to change this if the Nvidia Broadcast was available and required it. 😀

Yes I do work with the latest version.
I found the cause of the problem in the meantime:
The source window is movable and it overlayed the Filters button…
But I do have another question: I would like to modify an existing video.
How do I get it onto the canvas? There is a small gap I feel.
If it’s there, I guess I just have to activate the video filter „Background remove“ and perhaps the effect „coulor key“ (?)
And by the way: Your videos are all extremely helpful and help much to not waste too much time with it.

I was so glad to lean from you that I can remove the background without greenscreen. I only want to remove background on my existing video. I had followed your direction : On the OBS website and under the resource click the media source, however, it cannot browsing my exiting videos on my computer. Please let me know how to apply my video to the program?

Good tutorial, although I wish OBS had some sort of export functionality. I am using a pre recorded video, and when I apply the filter it seems to be doing it live, and my computer can't keep up so its only 10fps. I wouldn't mind if it had to work a few minutes for a 30 second clip, if I can get the desired fps.

I have one question I don't think you covered and maybe you can explain how to do it.
You mentioned using OBS to replace the background, but what I really want is to create a mask around myself that I can import into Davinci Resolve, so that in Resolve I can place that mask (my talking head with no background) directly into my videos. Basically, I want to do what you have done here in your video, but in Resolve, not OBS, but use OBS to do the pre-processing of the mask so I can use it in Resolve.
Can you help me do this?

I use a different technique which it would be interesting to hear your comments on.
I use Zoom as my background change tool. It’s excellent virtual background capability lets me use my chosen photos or videos in the background. I start a new meeting, inviting no one else, and record myself in the participant screen using OBS. This doean’t work if I need a virtual camera for Zoom but it works in all other situations.

6.31 in the video. i couldnt find the top option for background removal but i found it in the other + sign below. in background removal (6.35) i cant find the buttons "background color" so i cant get the green screen.

Wonderful tutorial! Very well done. Unfortunately, the plugin for the background removal doesn't offer the colors anymore. Is there a different plugin that can do the same thing? Or is there a different way to go about it now?😭

Thanks for making this video. There is now a much easier method of removing video background. It takes me less than a minute to do that and it's free. I posted a step by step video on how to do that.
