- 13.1 miles, 21.1 Kilometers. This is the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships!
On the flat and fast streets of Gdynia, Poland, many of the world's best athletes took to the streets to see who would prevail in this year's installment of the world half marathon championships. Thanks to good weather, good organization, and fantastic competition, this proved to be the fastest world championship half in history.
What a way to end the 2020 Season!

Happy that there wasn’t such a negative response from everyone when Joshua Didn’t win because when Kip home lost everyone was wondering if was going to retire or if eh was injured, I was just happy to see a huge smile on Joshua’s face for his fellow Ugandan Kiplimo.
I think it was because Age is not on Kipchoge side unlike Cheptegei
Well said, thank you very much
We are all human right at the end of the day :)
So true
exactly man, josh wasnt surprise he didnt win too. It was a great race for him tbh. coming in 4th with a sub 6p
Nothing to be ashamed of for Chep. An unevenly paced low 59 is hardly a poor performance. With better pacing he'd have surely been within a minute or less of the world record in what is clearly not the distance he's trained for. Incredible win by Kiplimo though!
My debut half was 1:23. I was happy with an under ,04:00/km half.
Chep: First half under 1h 😂
Legend
Poor Chep :(
I felt bad for him
If anyone paid attention to the pre race conference Cheptegei did say this race was a preparation for the Olympics to come he added saying even if Kenyans or Ethiopians would give him a lesson or two since he is dominant on the track he would still be happy if the crown goes to his fellow countrymen. in this race Chep & Kip used tactics kept checking on each other so that whilst other athletes are concentrating to dethrone Chep he was cushioning Kip to safety.Congrats to all their good pbs nrs sbs was so proud of my fellow South Africans too performance
This was a very good video, no click bait, not announcing who won before the race starts, good job man
This channel has it nailed. Always come here for my updates now! No spoilers is great!
Yeah, apart from butchering Kandie's name several times and insisting on mispronouncing Cheptegei (As many native English speakers running youtubers do)
Don't you feel like he doesn't cover women's races enough? The top 3 in the women's race run under the old WR but he hasn't said anything about that. Just seems a bit one sided.
Cheptegei ran his first half marathon on a world championship and got 4th place, that's incredible...
Right
but isn't it Jacob Kiplimo's first race too?
@@_H1R0_ according to the commentary during the race, this was Jacobs debut on the international level. He had done a half marathon in Uganda in the past.
@@DSWiifan thanks for clarifying
Given the hype, it is an enormous disappointment if you ask himself or any people who were hyping it.
Kiplimo is awesome. Cheptegei did great too; he clearly isn’t recovered from his 10K. Good for Uganda. I look forward to seeing both race again!
I think it was his half marathon debut aswell
METHODZz I think your right
Kiplimo was amazing, he is a force to be reckoned with just like Chetegei. Great talent!
@@Will-xx4qs indeed he ran a half marathon before in Uganda
I wonder actually: if he didn't go back up to elevation (for example he can recover faster at lower elevation from the WR performance) then maybe his hematocrit level now started to fall? I think it takes a couple of weeks or so.
TRP really just cranked out this vid in like 2.5 hours.
😂
the man is built different lol
🙀
And the recap is way better than any tv report!
Great race head to head with no pacers...this is pure 100% racing at his best with no help, just GUTS and strategy...hup hup!! Congrats to Kiplimo from Uganda...!!!
😅 Debió ir a grabarla en vivo para hoy los gritos de emoción.
Just like Pollito Valdez vs Alexis Verdugo 👌🏻. Cuando se topan de una mano a mano en la perrera más grande de mexico: La casa de los Xolos de Tijuana 💪💪

He’s only 19! I think he’s gonna be one of the greats!
Same
I agree
He is already 8th Fastest of all time
@@mdhamidurrahman9118 wow 8th fastest at only 19 😮
@@ABLQuality yup, Jakob Kiplimo and Jacob Ingebrigtsen became the 8th and 9th Fastest of all time to run a 3000 Mt. Race, this Video is Avail in this channel. Go check that awesome video
so awesome to see that even though he didn’t even medal, cheptegei was elated to see kiplimo win. now THATS the true wonder and spirit of athletics
That's why I admire him a lot. He is not only looking out for himself but for his fellow countrymen. I think they also train together.
Breaking: Cheptegei is indeed human.
Idk about that
Getting under 60 in your first half marathon 🏃🏃🏃
I’m pretty sure he was specifically training for the 5k/10k, but was just carrying the momentum to his first half marathon
wen he knew a brother was taking this he relaxed
@@katendecaroline324 😂
Its not an ocean, its a Baltic Sea ;) I have been running several times this route! regards from Poland, Love Your content!
and it's a Baltic Sea bay area :)
It's hard to come back from setting the world record 10k to jump into a half marathon and run an insane time like that. He wasn't specifically preparing for this race until after the 10k but at that point there wasn't much work he could put it. Good for him for doing so well this year!
Can't believe kiplimo at 19 beat cheptegei, the 5 and 10k world record holder in his prime, that's crazy
kiplimo is crazy
Cheptegei didn't train at all for this race. He had no time. At least he helped team uganda win silver team. It's Kiplimo who has the experience and was well trained going in to the race so he was always the favorite. That was well known by commentaries in Uganda
Cheptegei *was* at his prime. He's still at an incredibly high level obviously, but there's only so many peaks one can hit within a single season. He peaked for his 5000m WR then managed to maintain that incredible fitness for a month for the 10,000m WR, so it's not really that surprising that he fell off a bit and couldn't maintain it for this.
I dunno how much Kiplimo has raced this year, but I don't think he's had as many peak performances so recently and I'm guessing this was his primary goal for this season, whereas this was both a first foray into the half marathon distance and a tertiary goal for Cheptegei behind the two world records. Notice how publicly confident Cheptegei and his coaches were going into the two world record performances, whereas for this they didn't make nearly as much fanfare about it - they were being realistic and knew he wouldn't be on top form.
That's not to take away from Kiplimo's achievement as it was an incredible performance any way you cut it and he may well have beaten a top form Cheptegei, but I think people were getting a bit too hyped and expected a slightly unreasonable amount from Cheptegei to think he would be able to break all 3 WRs within a couple months. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has the capability and comes back and does it, but there's only so much the body can handle in such a short time frame and this looked like it was one ask too many. It'll be exciting to see what he does in the future now that he has his first proper HM race under his belt, but I'm guessing he's going to focus on the track next year as that's where his chances of Olympic gold are highest.
Not the first time Cheptegei loses to Kiplimo. He lost to him at the uganda national championships a while back
Kiplimo does not even breath. I wonder how he trains. His face looks like someone seated relaxing
What a great race!! Thanks TRP for keeping with as a great running content
Our boys well done, may the God of our land continue to bless you both, for God and country, ugandans stand with you both.👏🇺🇬
We need to see Bosco's, Papers!!
i really appreciate these kind videos. I recently started watching races and thanks to channel I am learning a lot about this beautiful sport :)
Me too, I'm learning a lot too.
well, isnt this cheptegei's first half marathon race? its no surprise he hasn't rlly got as much experience on the pacing for this race
Yeah he didn't even want to run. But did it so that team uganda would have a chance of winning team gold. What a team spirit from him. We still didn't win team gold but at least we came away with team silver
True words
Kiplimo is a track guy too though. Not to mention 5 years younger.
@Julius Lewis You are exactly right. He has enough overall fitness to do well, but he will not train specifically for this distance for some time, in my opinion. He is a track runner - the best in the world at the 5&10k. There is no need to tailor his training for the half marathon or marathon until he is no longer capable of winning world championships on the track.
@@tombombadillo2970 Ye and is 3k win ie making me think how versatile he really is.
How proud these boys have made us.
PROUDLY A UGANDAN
He ran great......there is a lot for him to come🦁
Your pre and post race reports are becoming more an more awesome over time. Keep up the good work!
That is a great format, I loved the video! Keep up the great work!
Thank u for this video. Am happy I found your channel and I was depending on you for updates on cheptegei performance and results. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations to Kiplimo. My money was on Joshua since he had such a great season.
Running is not easy. 🏃♂️
Very impressive. Cheptegei is probably exhausted
Oh Uganda may God uphold thee....!!!!!!
Joshua and Jacob are such great talents am so proud of them. When you visit kapchorwa and see the number of athletes running in the morning and evenings, the future of Ugandan long distance running is bright. Congrats you two. Uganda oyee.
This is the first place I look post race now. Thanks TRP for another awesome race commentary.
Great coverage! Thanks for making these videos!!
Love your videos. Great presentation. Thank you.
Thanks for a man that helps keep running so entertaining! I used to run in high school and miss the sport! It’s so hard to keep up with running because u can never know when the races happen and people spoil the race. Thanks for these entertaining videos! Keep it up brother
I expected Joshua not to win. You can't exhaust yourself for 10k. Then 3 weeks later break half marathon unless you on some juice.
So he did as I expected him too
Still ran great
you think they are not on juices?? :)))
I’m sure they’re all on something, but world class is world class. None of us “advanced runners” would be anywhere near their speed with the same juice/training.
@@420jettt2 man. Doping gives the muscles a constant drive like autopilot. Listen to wat lance armstrong saidd bout how he felt invincible qhen he took epo or hotmones
@@andrukthegreat I figured he not doping. Snice he lost
hands down best race recap I've watched
So Proud of our Ugandan boys 🎉🎉🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬
They are not Ugandans. They are Kenyans representing Uganda. Fellows whose names start with Kip or Chep originate from the great rift valley found in KENYA. Some are in the US on scholarship or in Arab countries. When they meet in international competitions, they hug and speak their mother tongue. It's the same thing with Hassan who is former Ethiopian but has been representing the Netherlands.
8:05 Kiplogo is just jogging there while that man in the blue shirt is sprinting like a lion is behind him😂
8:03 it's incredible to see how a guy in a blue sweat pants and shirt behind the cordon had to do an all out dash effort to still slightly fall behind Kiplimo :D
Your videos are so expertly done. Unreal knowledge and commentary. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for not spoiling the result in the video title
Jacob Kiplimo 🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬The Half Marathon World Champion and Joshua Cheptigi placing 4 in his half Marathon Debut Amazing and under 60 Minutes
Great video as always from TRP _ note its pronounced ChepteGAY not ChepteGUY ... cheers
Kip-limousine has BIG plans! That stride is poetry in motion. Thanks TRP...you're getting me through the 2020 shitshow.
I really am not a fan of the mentality of bashing on previous/current champions and saying that they were "disappointing" or along the lines of that. For me, it opens up the door for other athletes to prove themselves. Great video as always, Thank you of course!
True , true words. Well said. Thanks.
What an amazing run by Kiplimo! 19??? WOW...
One can never underestimate what breaking the 10k world record took out of Cheptegei.
It somewhat makes sense why he lost because this is his first half marathon. He still did amazing
Proudly 🇺🇬 congrats to my own,one ❤️
I think cheptegei is allowed to have a race that isnt a wr this year, poor guy deserves a break 😂
Thank you for another excellent summary of a stellar race.
Best running channel on UA-cam 🤙🏿

I have no idea what to think anymore! I am so excited for the distance races next Olympics!
Me too.
2020 never ceases to surprise us!
Expect to see this kid win a lot more in the future.
I had forgotten about the Sao Paulo finish! That explains why Kiplimo kept looking over his shoulder 😆
Incredible race. Congrats to Jepchirchir as well, breaking the women-only world record for the second time in two months!
I just found out about the sao paolo finish in this video 😂
well, the kid learn from his mistake. This time he made sure to keep the distance untill the finish line👍
Women's race was really exciting
Much support from my Uganda 🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬#cheptegei
Great video as always. Loved watching the livestream. Can you please do a video of the women's race. It was so fast. Top 3 women broke the world record and 80 percent of the field ran either a NR or a Personal Best!
Running has improved so much that you run 59 mins in a half marathon and dont get to see the podium. Incredible talents and hard work at play.
The future of kiplimo is simply huge!!!
True words
Well done 7ganda kenya and ethiopia. Proud of you.
Joshua Cheptegei + Jacob Kiplimo = the Present & Future running Kings
I'll be honest that was still a really good performance from Cheptegei, it's very difficult to be world class from the 5k to the half-marathon.
It is, but Kimplimo proved that is is possible, since he is word class from 3000 -half.
Kiplimo ran a 7:26 3000m one month ago, so he is also becoming an incredible runner.
Kiplimo is from 3000 m to the half. Crazy for 19.
Kiplimo has ran a half marathon before. As for cheptegei this was his first. I believe he'll get better with time. Plus kiplimo always wants to beat cheptegei. That's why he ran in the senior category in last year's cross country championships despite being only 18
@@MZACK-ch9jv Actually this is Kiplimo's debut at the half. Maybe u mean he ran the 15km before.
Great vid. Absolutely beautiful. Btw, are you Ty Knotts? You sound like Ty Knotts.
So excited for 2021 races!
They are going to be great
This was a good performance from Joshua Cheptegei if you disregard all the hype.
Just remembering that Kiplimo ran a 7:26 3000m just a month ago, so he has exceptional speed and endurance. I can't wait to see Cheptegei and Kiplimo competing in a 5000m/10000m race.
I've seen Kiplimo run in races before and he is incredibly talented.
I think Kiplimo is bad
@@leonardtoo985 why?
TRP is the best running channel out in youtube!
Everytime I see world half marathon championship, I remember the King 👑 ZERESENAY TADESE!
4 world records in a year is insane still Joshua is a legend
Oh my God, it's very nice win for my brother Ugandans
Gdynia ❤🇵🇱
Excellent attempt by Cheptegei he just needs more training and more importantly patience for longer distances.
He is not the only one fighting for glory and domination.
He needs more juice
10k and the half are very different races, and joshua only had 10 days to transition after a 10k WR effort
it's no surprise he didn't win, but still raced very well
Great video as always, well done 👍
What an amazing finish of kandie at the Street race of 31.12.2019 in Sao Paulo, i never see that before on the road
Respect to Kiplimo, amazing race!
ruling the world at 19 wow what a talent
5:50 Oh, that's why Kiplimo looked behind him several times near the end of the race x) didn't realize it at first !
Great performance by all of them, ggs
The constant switch between past and present tense gave me an aneurysm
Cheptegei, Kipruto, Farah and Kiplimo over 5000 would be amazing to see.
running on concrete surface always hurt my feet, especially when pushing the pace. Maybe my body is just old, but concrete is definitely a much harder surface than ashpalt.
Looking at the course and how they mostly run on concrete.. I'm amazed by the strength of their legs and feet.
Just out of interest, what shoes are you running in?
True, I prefer to run on asphalt.

Kiplimo is very great
this half marathon was amazing to watch
Please give min/km when you drop a min/mile, even if its just in graphics.
Exactly! This is world championships, not GB championships!
That long shot from the water just shows how fast they are moving...fast.
Congratulations Jacob Kiplimo🇺🇬🇺🇬
Was this also Kiplimo’s debut in the half?
Have you done an analyzing the greats on Kiplimo?
No, he hasn't yet, he'll probably wait until he is toward the end of his career, or else he would have to make a bunch of follow up videos.
Kiplimo is just unreal.running that pace without even a hint of effort.makes the other runners look like they're trying too hard 😁
It blows my mind how fast they run.
So glad Kiplimo won. There are other runners in this world beside Cheptegei...
52 seconds ago. Earliest I’ve ever been
Nice video 👍😊
did he just say the opening 5km was 14:19. what.
Who was the man in third... I have newer seen him before.
His legs turnover just amazing I wouldn’t mind to watch him running for hours
Kiplimo will break world record one day
