That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing. It’s always special when we have something special that reminds us of family… something that we can use and still serves a purpose.
I've got a precision 25 jewel and it runs great and thanks for the video I really appreciate it,my name is Chris Woods this watch was made before I was born and I was born in 1974 so it's definitely old lol thanks again
I have a foundling Gruen Presicion with a 522 movement. It runs fine as long as I remember to wind it fully every morning. It has a face and hands similar to this watch. I am not a fan of this style face and hands, and would have preferred something less blocky, and with numbers on the hours. But I'm glad to find they had some value back in the day. Recently I obtained another foundling, a nice gold-tone Gruen with a fancy metal band, the face again similar to the watch shown here. It works fine except I don't know how to set the day date feature.
Depends on the movement, on how to set the day/date. Most times if it has BOTH day and date, then when you pull out the crown to the first position (not full position where you set the time), you can rotate clockwise to change the date, and counter-clockwise to change the day. If it only has date, and there's only one crown position... then sometimes the only way to set the day of the week is by literally rotating through the time 2-12 times depending on how many you need in order to get it to the right day. But yeah, they are nice watches... but made during a time when Gruen was hurting, and they had to lower costs or go out of business.
I'm learning about this stuff and have a watch with the same movement. How did you remove the day and date wheels? I've been stuck on that for a while.
France Ébauches was French company created in 1920 located near Switzerland producing up to 14.000.000 movements in 1990 They made joint venture with company China Light. I suspect that this watch was made in China by this JV. France Ébauches does not exist anymore . French industry did not survive Quartz crisis for various rasons FE140 is a quite decent movement for this price range ; inspired by movement Dodane RD344. Dodane is still making watches.
I have my dads mid 50’s Gruen Precision .. I love wearing it ! And still keeps great time !!!

Timex Todd Snyder Marlin is also 34mm.
Movement is FE 140-2 made by Frame Ébauches
Thank you! I wonder where I got Uhewerke from then? Are they owned by Ebauches, or does it mean something else entirely?

@@christianlornage8626 Thank you for the information! I appreciate it!
Do we need to wind this gruen precision autowind?
No only manual wind watches need to wind every day.
