Young people also have to realize that rual farm / houses like this were actually out in the middle of nowhere back then. It was common for people to just dump stuff and collect stuff over decades on their properties. They didn't have regular garbage pick up or recycling coming around. If you could burn it you would or just dump it in a pile and let it rot on one's property. I see many old abandoned homes like this. I actually have an old 1920s refrigerator and old bottles and gas cans on my property. Makes it fun to dig and get out your metal detectors. A different time from now indeed 😂

These old farms have a long history, and one thing you might find interesting - so much of these things are considered "trash" to most, but treasures to others! Some of the medicine bottles sell at flea markets for $12 -$15. Unbelievable, right?

As a fellow older Canadian I can assure you many people live in cabins to have peace and quiet. Thankfully in Canada we have so much land we can. Not always alcoholics not forced by families but usually someone with cptsd will live like this till death. I myself have cptsd and lived no problem in a cabin for over 10 yrs it is amazing. And yes most collect so they can reuse parts as you do not have delivery for things out in the country lol
So sad young Canadians have no clue

Had similar thoughts. This is a typical type house in Alaska. They use what they can find and plywood walls, that semi finished look serves their purposes. I think this man (or someone before him) had a full and even happy life. The pool, the guesthouse, the outbuildings. All pretty decent in their time.

I get the vibe that this was a man's place of solitude, tinkering on old rigs and reading before the fire. Until some jerks came thru and ransacked it, throwing his books about and outside, my guess. The kitchen was once cute with items he used often pegged on the walls. The 2 lone wine glasses and 2 silver chalices make me think he had a loved one lost. That he read a lot says he probably liked his being alone. Had a sense of humor and was a gearhead, hence the auto part nailed on the wall but whimsical mirrors nailed below show another side. Nevertheless, we shall never know the total picture. May he rest easy now.

Yep it is. My family abandoned me in my darkest time. Every single one of them. Glad I found recovery. It was a very sad time. Support of total strangers and not one loved-one. What a mind duck for sure. I can relate with what Gerry was going through. Today, living sober, is very different for me, but unfortunately, Gerry did not come back from it. Most do not come back. Facts.

those weren't cheques sitting on the wood stove, they were hand written receipts given to him for something he bought. I'd almost bet he was making some extra money collecting scrap to go to the scrap yard. He definitely wasn't well judging by all the Ensure bottles and cartons. The "axe" is a splitting maul for splitting firewood. Odd place to have it but make a pretty good door stop!

What a sad story but WOW you do a fabulous job taking us through it. I can't say you missed anything!! So awesome. And yes, at the end of the day, that's all our lives end up as. Someone to clean up after we're gone to our eternal home, or not at all, in this case. His life seems to have ended in a very lonely and isolated state. That's what happens when you are an alcoholic. Isolation is the end result. Who knows, he may have lost a marriage, kids, employment as a result of his drinking. Just speculation, but that's usually what happens to an alcoholic. They call it "the alcohol remover" - takes everything from you. I'm speaking from experience, but i am sober today, but for the Grace of God ❤ 🙏.
Rest in Peace Gerry! 🙏 ❤No more suffering buddy.

Someone was supporting 'Gary', the family I suppose. So, reading the comments, most pitying or sad, I beg to differ. Gary got to do what he wanted, when he wanted in a beautiful place in the woods. And when he was done, he checked out. Why does suicide have to be 100% negative? Sure, some folks decide to kill themselves before exploring any alternative or do it 'far too early'. Some have just had enough of this life and choose to go. On their own terms. Like Gary who, at long last, has the peaceful release he desired in the end.

I agree with everything you said, purhaps he liked being in the middle of nowhere, im not a fan of people either lol, i like my peace and quiet and i dont mind at all being a recluse. Hmm, the guy was an alhoholic tho, and ive had my fair share of them, the ones i know are middle aged and just get nasty when drunk, they dont realize that they alienate themselves, and this guys family didnt want anything to do with him cuz i guess he sounded like one of them. Suicide is sad tho, he obviously hurt a lot but at the same time just pushed his family away.

A lot of alcoholics aren’t stumbling drunks. My dad was an alcoholic and most of the time. If you didn’t know him, you’d have no idea he’d been drinking all day. He was very clean and well dressed, kept an extremely clean home (he did have a tendency to hoard but he kept it tidy or convinced his many brothers and sisters to store it for him as financially he was never stable and moved around a lot. He never seemed to be able or willing to live alone. He had a good job he had till he died. His alcoholism killed him ultimately. Heart issues. But still. Just saying. He could drink from sun up to sun down and only sometimes at the end of the day did he actually seem drunk. He deliberately hid it, would keep beer case cartons and empty wine/liquor bottled hidden in closets, he’d take them to the dumpster at night. He drank openly socially, but still hid a lot of his alone drinking. It’s weird despite making really good money, it was like he was never fully able to adult. He’d go without basic furniture till someone just gave him stuff, just little things like that that were weird.

Noah go to explorer but a very sad explorer at the same time. Living a hermit lifestyle is rough you have no one to talk to or to help you with repairs. Looks like towards the end there the house was starting in all the outbuildings were starting to go probably didn't have the money or was getting too old to be climbing on roofs so we just let it go. He knew the end was near because as soon as that house fell apart he had no place just left so that's why he probably offed himself.
What's with the dog barking you say you're out in the middle of nowhere you shouldn't hear a dog barking in the middle of nowhere there must be another house someplace around there.

I seen people consuming them when they don't eat properly. Drink ensure instead of eating real food. And I could certainly picture Gerry popping a couple into him, and I believe someone said signs of cancer - so he'd likely resorted to those nearing the end of his sad life. Probably couldn't drink alcohol anymore at that point either. What a sad way to go.

What I suspect is there was "someone" who lived here - no immediate phone seen in this video - may be indicative of a non-verbal special needs individual who floated from one day to another until he ended his life - but KEY QUESTION is where did the body get buried?

I think people don't realize how much damage animals can do once they get inside. Raccoons will throw things around, rummaging for food, so while I'm sure people also have been inside, a lot of it can be just animals rummaging.
