UA-cam recently made the startling decision to take away the public dislike count on all videos. A video by Matt Koval on the UA-cam Creators channel explained the action as if it was a small thing we will get used to, since "other websites don't even have a dislike button", but the issue here is that other websites are not like UA-cam, which happens to be the 2nd biggest search engine in the world, home to a lot of how to videos, tutorials, and advice videos where a rating system is crucial to aiding the viewer discern between what is and what isn't trustworthy. In short, hiding dislikes across UA-cam is a terrible move. In this video we discuss why.

The White House is a small creator.
The fact that they remove dislikes actually causes smaller channels to be suspected of bad ratings, because you can only see half of the story for what the videos are worth.
UA-cam, in the attempt of "protecting smaller channels", has instead shot every small channel's foot.

So you see bad content often? ngl your algorithm sucks really bad if you face this as an issue. because most people never face these bad videos because of the advanced algorithm which recommend you videos based on what you've watched. and there are a lot of to her ways to see whether or not the video is bad like checking the channel and ofc the comment section.
Another problem with removing dislikes is that there will be a lot more hate comments on peoples videos, as they cannot simply press dislike, which would hurt the small creators more.

The thing with removing disliking, is that people will take the next step. If people can't dislike, they will send angry comments, or worse. Removing the dislike feature will actually make things more toxic, rather than the intended effect of making things more friendly. It's like going in a friendly fight but someone says "You can't use your hands for this fight", in that case, dropkicks and broken teeth will be the norm.
People will just make comments then videos, forum posts and or social media posts about how much they dislike the content. I dont see how removing dislikes makes the platform less toxic, it just manifests somewhere else.
UA-cam: We’ll remove comments then.
*People make reaction videos to content they dislike*

@@certifiedawesome7092 Ah, an insurrection is worse then what?
In my opinion, disliking a youtube video is encouraging the creator to produce better quality videos. And if people don't like criticisms, then either don't start UA-cam at all,or hide the dislike count on you're video. UA-cam removing the dislike count was a really nasty and honestly selfish move, considering they did it because the UA-cam rewind 2018 became even more disliked than Baby.
You know what's even more stupid than anything else UA-cam has done? That content creators can still see the dislike count, but regular viewers can't. Why go though the effort ( and controversy) to hide it from us,but keep it for UA-camrs,who are probably more affected by dislikes than we are. It just doesn't make sense in my eyes.
What they should have done is provide an option that let's us enable and disable the dislike count at any time, for both UA-camrs and regular viewers. That way, if the video's creator feels bad for the amount of dislikes, they can disable it,and then re-enable once they start producing videos that are well-liked. And we could still see the dislikes.
I hope one day UA-cam will come to thier senses, and bring back the dislike count. With this change, they're telling us that disliking a video is " mean",wich is completely false, since if UA-cam rewind 2018 never happened, the dislike would still be here. 👎🏻

The real reason why they took away dislikes is because of how many dislikes UA-cam rewind accumulated.
I totally agree, and I’d like to add another point. In removing the dislike button, they don’t “save” small creators from getting their feelings hurt - after all the dislikes are still visible to them. What it DOES do, however, is change the audience’s perception of a video. Keep in mind that CHILDREN make up the majority of the audience on UA-cam - with their overall lack in critical thinking skills and desire to just go along to what other say, they may see a couple thousand likes and think “oh I should agree with this video” even if there’s hundreds of thousands of dislikes that are hidden from view. This is a pretty dangerous tool and will definitely by used to spread misinformation and create false narratives. Great video!

That is not true
This reminds me of when they did this for comments. They love pretending it lessened “bullying” which essentially forced people to use words to show their distaste. All that did is create more engagement on videos.. which pushed the content.
They know what they’re doing. Because they suggest the button still works… but nobody can see the count… which makes people assume there’s no post so they don’t even bother with the dislikes.
As far as videos go, it’s the same thing. They just paint it different as if the dislike button never meant anything. When it was still around, that was a warning sign that the video you’re watching.. is likely gonna be something you don’t enjoy. Whenever I saw videos with more dislikes than likes, I didn’t like the video 100% of the time.
They definitely could care less about smaller channels. Removing the dislike count for comments and videos just doubles the engagement. That also allows the stupid creators who thrive off controversial content. If they lowered the cost for premium, I would likely never complain again. But they gotta milk whatever money they can get. Okay I’m done venting.
They say that they removed the dislike button because of cyber bullying and other reasons, but I would argue that comments on a video are way more degrading and disrespectful than the dislike button is. If people dislike a video that means that they simply don’t like it.

Because it helps me know what kind of content people want to see. Just like you said in the video. Dislikes are in my opinion, the most IMPORTANT feature ANY streaming service should have. It lets people know if the video is worth watching, again, as you (and many others) said. And if you take that away, suddenly, extreme cases of illegal things happen. Like scams, tutorials that set peoples houses on fire. Just to name a couple
Anyway, sorry for wasting your time on smth everyone already knew, but this is a serious issue. I take my leave
Jesus christ the websites are just getting worse and worse.
The best thing that came out of this whole situation is the memes.
“You see, now that the dislike button is removed, I will say the most controversial nonsensical stuff ever and y’all can’t do nothing about it.”
These memes help laugh my socks off and cure my soul, but the sad part is that the reason I can laugh about this is because UA-cam made a stupid decision.
_"UA-cam's stupid decision"_
No, it's the WORST DECISION YT EVER MADE.
@@blackberyy3450 Okay, I think you're going too far. How about instead:
1. Make the petition to bring back dislikes
2. File lawsuits against UA-cam/Google
3. Organize protests/strikes against UA-cam/Google
@@tiruliru1189 nah i think that's acceptable

You forgot one thing, this is the classic ''nobody has break time because Timmy got bullied in class'' situation. Nobody wins and you polarize people. People will demonize Timmy for not standing for himself, the bully for being a bully and the teacher for being unfair with those that behave.
I cant imagine a happier moment than to have your video succeed and a wildly positive ratio to show for. All those hours and effort rewarded before the public.
Claiming to be standing for those being dislike bombed (im surprised nobody is mentioning Steam's way of review-bomb protection with the off-topic warning too) you are taking away a reward for those that do good. A loose-loose scenario.
I absolutely agree this change sucks... i was hoping to see dislikes on comments but apparently the exact opposite...
This really shows how soft the world has gotten smfh
The thing is when UA-cam removes dislikes it won’t stop hate-campaigns, people will just move to the comments instead, being toxic and saying stupid stuff that could hurt even more than a percentage.
I know right? Dislikes is just one of those ways of hating, it's like removing a small leaf when there are hundreds of leaves on the tree you are picking on.
Yes and the comments WERE ALWAYS what would hur you more. Like seeing one dislake is much less painful than seeing a comment saying "i hate you". But also, even if they turn of the comments the hate would still come on other platforms (Twitter) for stuff they do on UA-cam so it's just stupid trying to solve it this way
@siddharth sarkar i fucking hope not. That would really have a LOT of backlash
@siddharth sarkar no...
@@sofijamarkovic6856 UA-cam would literally lose 60% of its entertainment value if that happens Lmao...

@@jennawebb4225 You need see trough your child history to find out some horrific videos. Not counting videos in different language than English. Just pushing everything with high views/subs channels. Why they didn't just go back to the 5-star rating system is beyond me.
@Lt. JoeAnimatez yeah before likes and dislike. There was stars.
5 star rating is garbage because people nowadays will only rate with 5 stars or 1 star. nobody ever rates videos with 4,3 or 2 stars. just look at google reviews. Don't like the movie? rate it 1 star. like the movie? 5 stars. nobody has time for constructive criticism so its either you like the video or you hate it.
oh
Star rating system is hideous. Like vs dislike system is clearly the better option.
I hated the Star Rating system back then and still do

50 seconds of the video and I just subscribed but then A RAID AD WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME
UA-cam needs to start thinking about, how we feel about these things. At this point we all are getting sick and tired of UA-cam. The only reason we continue to watch UA-cam, is because we have no where else to watch stuff like these. Not only that, but if there was a day UA-cam got shut down. It would be a huge shame for not only viewers, but UA-camrs as well for numerous obvious reasons.
Yeah, especially since some of the creators post videos in order to get enough money to live
Your opinion is still kinda true, this type phenomenon has been shown especially the recent one in ROBLOX been shut down. But still make us happy bruh.
You know I wouldn't mind if there was an alternative to YT and creators gradually started uploading the same videos to both platforms and I'd go watch in the other platform, which would reduce overall UA-cam usage I assume causing UA-cam to get it inside their thick skull.
@@history-jovian Roblox is not like youtube when shut down, I've seen thousands of comments wanting roblox back so it's not like anything like youtube.

The moment that happens, someone will inevitably start a new platform out of spite, and 96% of users will jump ship. No use staying on a platform that speaks for the giants and silences the people.
@@Spiritnick Unfortunately, only a minority, no more than a quarter will. It’s a kids website, ultimately. The majority of the website is kids, watching crap like CoCoMelon. They’re too stupid or don’t care enough to jump ship, and these changes help creators like Cocomelon and big companies, which is where the money lies. Other creators, that don’t just pump out garbage, will make their own smaller, more niche sites. Maybe one for gaming, one for tutorials, for news, educational stuff, memes, etc. This has already kinda happened with Nebula, which was started by a team of smaller UA-camrs, like Real Life Lore, Wendover Productions, etc. UA-cam will probably not even bother competing with them; it would be like Walmart competing with Home Depot.
once an agency becomes too big to fail, it must then be dismantled and taken down
that idea on how you can detect a video targeted for dislikes is very good
Lets be real: this whole 'disabling the dislikes' is about the dislike attack on the 2018 youtube rewind
yup
No, I think it's more about UA-cam trying to please advertisements and big companies. I am talking about stuff like Disney, Trump, Biden, EA, Fox etc are getting mad about people disliking videos. Some of the most disliked videos are from content farm/companies. Therefore UA-cam is probably not trying to help the small UA-camrs but rather the big companies.
@@Scenario_animations i was going to say Biden/White House, but you already said that. it's about politics and protecting their freinds in high places... so like someone else said... it's so they can spread misinformation and harm full ideas to their subjects and the children of this country.
Then let's get that dislike disabling to WORSE than 2018, guys.
I propose a crusade.
this is THE worst change youtube has ever made. cancelling my yt premium until this is reversed, i bought it to support the platform in hopes they wouldn't give in to the other big companies or investors, but it's shown now that they truly don't care about their users

Like why we have dislike button on comments 😂
UA-cam would rather remove the dislikes instead of these scammer bots, even going so far as to pretend like they don't exist.
Probably because corporations could benefit greatly from using such bots.
The moment I saw it was being announced, all I could wonder is "Why not just bring back the star rating then?" It was another great way of showing how quality a video was!
Gee, I wonder if this 'group disliking' is trying to tell us that I don't know, the video might be clickbait or not the best (not to say I don't think group disliking doesn't exist, I just saw it few and far between when it wasn't UA-cam Rewind or some drama)?
How could they say this helps small creators when they need ratios like these to know how well their videos rate with the traction they receive?
True, dislike bombs just happen to a creator after somebody did a drama video or simps when another creator said something bad about their "alabama queen".
I'm just gonna Copy & Paste this:
I think we all know why UA-cam got ridded of Dislikes it's to help corporations advertisers celebrity's politicians rich people & shity big youtubers.
I mean i see why they would want it removed because when ever they make a bad apology video lie act sleazy or do something stupid they get disliked bombed to hell & rightfully so.
& here's a video that perfectly describes why corporations would want it removed:

[even though it's talking about left-wingers i think it it applies to them just as much if not more]
New update on TV version on UA-cam: in 2050 we will removing the skippable ads to make them longer and unskippable
They basically don’t want us to be able to negatively react to future videos, like Amazon’s Rings of Power, for example. They don’t care for small creators, they only care for their self-gain and pushing their agendas without opposition.
