guys if your twrp recovery freezes just hold the power button and the volume down under a very bright light and it will restart your phone,it may sound like bull shit but it worked for me.just hold those buttons until it restarts hope this helps
If you're on hboot 1.57 and you flash TWRP via fastboot and you are getting errors when flashing roms etc. "E:Unable to mount cache" just format the cache in TWRP Wipe>Advanced Wipe>Check the cache option and wipe. It should work then. This is because fastboot dosent erase the cache correctly. It erases it in an unreadable area.
If anyone has trouble with errors such as the touch problem. what you do is hold your device to a bright light (dont ask why) and hold the power button until the screen goes black, then let go and your device will restart. THEN after it is rebooted follow the video but make sure that you have openrecovery ... 2.6.3.3 cause the 2.5.0.0 is what is causing problems. have fun rooting!

Tried this in 2014 and a word of caution to anyone else attempting this, some things have changed. Things to note are the SuperSU file as well as the TWRP Recovery. Make sure you get the latest SuperSU because using the one Tim provided in his links could cause you to not be rooted in the end. Also, get the 2.7 version of the TWRP recovery tool as the 2.5 one can cause your screen to be unresponsive to touch (no worries, just hold the power button for 30 secs, download the 2.7 version instead and place it place of the 2.5 and repeat the steps. You'll be fine) But other than that, a great big thank you, Tim, for the guide.
Hey guys, I followed the tutorial step by step and everything went well. However, at first I flashed the same TWRP version as in the video (2.5.0) and the screen froze when I was in the TWRP menu. If that happens to you, just download a more recent TWRP version, preferably (2.8 and above ) and you will be good to go.

Guys all u have to do is wait for the battry to finish then on charging press power button and down volume button till it shows the white screen.... Just dnt charge your phone fully incase you have to wait for it to go flat again
This video and article helped me overcome the confusion of rooting a HTC One M7 Interntional verion 5.0.2. Since this video is three years old (as of today), you'll want to use a newer version of the SuperSU instead of the one included in this video's zip file. I replaced it with UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46. You'll also want a newer version of your TWRP recovery. Just go to the TWRP main website and select your device and the latest recovery img from the list. Put that in your Fastroot folder and use that img instead of the ones previously included. After that, don't forget to back-up your stock ROM even if you don't decide to try out custom ROMs!

For those of you who go through everything successfully but (like me) root checker tells you that your phone is not rooted. First make sure you use the latest versions of TWRP and SuperSU from their respective websites. But most importantly you need to enable USB debugging in Settings>Developer Options. This option was hidden in Android 4.2 on, but I found a work around here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422116. This was driving me nuts that I'd done everything right but the phone was still unrooted! Once I did this Root Checker told me it was rooted!

+suckNWO if you still need help ..I have the solution ( at least it worked for me...) go to google and search for SuperSu. than go on the official website and download the latest version of SuperSu. Delete the old version of SuperSu from your phone and place the new one there where the old one was. I don't know if you have to do the same thing if you used SuperUser.. but give it a try ;)

Another great video! Only difference from the video is the latest version of TWRP checks whether your device is rooted. If not, it includes a script for installing SuperSU; which roots the phone. Thank You !! Everything went smoothly expect the last step. Root Checker test failed. I recovered using the backup file. Then downloaded SuperSU V1.80 and followed the steps again. This time it was rooted.
Thank you very much, i successfully rooted my HTC Rhyme. it was not supported on the twrp website though. So i went to Google and found the recovery.img file i needed for my device and it worked! :)
in simplist terms think of it as similar to having "administrator access" in Windows, you get access to everything in the phone, ie:system files, thus you can access root required apps to do things like control your CPU, have a system wide file manager, custom boot animations, etc etc, an app I recomend with alot of root features is ROM toolbox, there's a free and paid version in the playstore. Also look up on tasker, which allows you to automate many things in your phone.
hey, everything went perfectly fine, when i opened the Root Checker Basic file on my phone to check whether my phone has been rooted successfully or not, as the it was shown in the video, it says, "The root was not Successful". What should i do now?

that happend to me when I used the 2.5 version. then holding the power button for like 30 seconds.. helped me to restart. try that. next time, use the 2.7 version.
Yeah, that information would've been great 2 months ago! I panicked after the initial problem and i relocked my bootloader. This causes the phone to be unable to system update with any of the HTC updates they push out. Now Im wondering if any of yous would know how to Unlock a Re-Locked bootloader. Please help!
i followed all the steaps but when i do the root checker says sorry this device has no proper root access ... i have back tracked my steps i re installed the SU twice doing a wipe before each time of the cache and all the installs says successful... i cant think of where i went wrong the SU app is in the phone though
Hi i have the htc one on tmobile running 4.3. I followed all the steps and was able to successfully unlock the boot loader and root the phone. After downloading some root required apps and playing around a bit my superSU is telling me "The SU binary needs to be updated." and when i hit "normal" to install the update it either says failed or my phone reboots and im back at square one. Can you please please please help.
Amazing video, thank you so much for putting it out, I have had my HTC one since april and it's the first phone I've ever had that I didn't feel rushed to root but now I finally got it done! Are there any roms worth installing? Also should I not check for OTA updates anymore? I prefer to stick with stock HTC software because I do love sense 5 and want it to be as stable as possible. What do I do when a new htc update comes along? They said 4.2.2 would be here in a month or so. Get back to me thx

Got to the part where you have to put in "fastboot flash recovery and enter the file.img". But what I get after is the max download size is too small and that it cannot load the openrecovery file. I think I failed somewhere there.

Yes. Download and flash Philztouch. U have to manually load it to ur phone by typing it in the command prompt tho

hey, everything went perfectly fine, when i opened the Root Checker Basic file on my phone to check whether my phone has been rooted successfully or not, as the it was shown in the video, it says, "The root was not Successful". What should i do now?

When I open up the recovery it brings up a little lock with the TWRP symbol in it and says "Swipe to unlock" but its frozen. Not sure what to do. Suggestions?
i have the same issue. hope you can fix this. My TWRP does not allow me to touch it freezes the touch screen and makes it not work.
download the 2.7 version.. then it will be fine.. I think you are using the 2.5 version..

that happend to me when I used the 2.5 version. then holding the power button for like 30 seconds.. helped me to restart. try that. next time, use the 2.7 version.
Yeah, that information would've been great 2 months ago! I panicked after the initial problem and i relocked my bootloader. This causes the phone to be unable to system update with any of the HTC updates they push out. Now Im wondering if any of yous would know how to Unlock a Re-Locked bootloader.
Please help!
i followed all the steaps but when i do the root checker says sorry this device has no proper root access ... i have back tracked my steps i re installed the SU twice doing a wipe before each time of the cache and all the installs says successful... i cant think of where i went wrong the SU app is in the phone though
You need to get an updated version of SU if you have android 4.3. Install that one, then run the root checker,
Hi i have the htc one on tmobile running 4.3. I followed all the steps and was able to successfully unlock the boot loader and root the phone. After downloading some root required apps and playing around a bit my superSU is telling me "The SU binary needs to be updated." and when i hit "normal" to install the update it either says failed or my phone reboots and im back at square one. Can you please please please help.

Amazing video, thank you so much for putting it out, I have had my HTC one since april and it's the first phone I've ever had that I didn't feel rushed to root but now I finally got it done! Are there any roms worth installing? Also should I not check for OTA updates anymore? I prefer to stick with stock HTC software because I do love sense 5 and want it to be as stable as possible. What do I do when a new htc update comes along? They said 4.2.2 would be here in a month or so. Get back to me thx
i did the whole process and when I clicked on SuperSU it gave me a message saying there was no SU binary installed and SuperSu cant install it, please help

I did all steps that you listed but in the very end when you click recovery it doesn't load up recovery mode to root it. I am using an HTC First, im not sure if thats why or not
I recently did this but i think i installed the old twrp instead of the new ones because my screen isn't reacting or able to turn off. i tried to do it again with the new twrp but it woudnt let me. So how can i do this.? Can i uninstall it somehow ?

hey i have a question i tired to update my htc one and it keeps loading in to the custom recovery mode and it doesn't update.
Got to the part where you have to put in "fastboot flash recovery and enter the file.img". But what I get after is the max download size is too small and that it cannot load the openrecovery file. I think I failed somewhere there.

halp qbking77 when I flashed the twrp, it worked.. and when i pressed recovery mode, it got stuck, the touchscreen didnt work anymore.. i clicked power button and it said slide to unlock....... pls help i cant use my phone anymore
