Also every dollar a company pays on behalf of an employee relocating is taxable income. That means typical taxes will need to be paid including social security payments
Yes which is why a comprehensive relocation package has the amounts paid "grossed-up" for tax purposes so the employee doesn't have to come out of pocket for any taxes
I'm here because I just applied for a job and they say they will relocate me on the application so I want to know how that works I wanted to make sure that they pay for a place for me to live and other expenses for moving but mostly if they will be paying for the 1st few months of rent
50 mile commute is not required anymore. It is optional and can be altered by you employer. So is the 1 year rule and payback clause. All is negotiable.
Good luck getting a company to offer you a full relocation package and not have a payback clause. Unless they are giving you a small sign-on to help for relactions benefits, there will be a payback clause - it costs a TON of money to fully relocate a candidate. I havent heard anything regarding the 50 mile clause but I haven't reloacted anyone in a while as so many less people are willing to relocate in this remote working environment
All depends. In certain relo packages, the relocation company will buy the house and then sell it to the buyer for the agreed upon price once there is an accepted offer. Closing time will vary depending on the buyer’s timeline. If you have a package where that happens, the seller isn’t forced to wait for the closing to get their money to put towards the new house in the new location
No. Usually they are offered when you are being hired if you have to relocate to take the job. If you are with a company and they want you to take a job internally that you need to relocate for, I don’t believe there is a minimum amount of time you need to be employed by the company
@@glennfreyolamit3798 it really depends on the situation. If you have a full relocation package, managed by a third-party vendor, you will start receiving some of the relocation benefits before your start date. If you are getting a sign-on to cover relocation costs, it will come after you start.
The details are usually discussed after you receive an offer. Some companies who have formal packages will have you speak to their relocation partner so they can walk you through the package prior to an offer being extended. You can certainly ask if they have a formal package or if they just provide cash assistance earlier in the process. Chances are, if they have a formal package, it will be pretty good
You can do that. You just obviously won't take advantage of the sell side assistance for the sale of your home. You are still eligible for buy side assistance as well as everything else in the package
@@briansafchik557 thank you. At the time I asked I was impatiently waiting to hear from the relocation company. They said they'll give me 9% of the value of my current home if I choose to keep it. However, that money will be taxable as income. If I sell then the financial assistance will not be taxed. I have about 2 months to decide.
Angie Vann, the first step is to ensure they have Relocation as a benefit. Depending on the role, you may qualify or negotiate it. If you have any questions, we are happy to help.
