Hoping to have some jewelry appraised after the Holidays by you but because I’m still a new kid on the block per say- and still learning about your appraisals,
I don’t see how you can appraise jewelry without a loop or actually it being a hands on appraisal. Can you give an appraisal on jewelry?
The jewelry I wanted to get appraised at a well known jewelry store said I’d have to leave the pieces there, and it could take a few months before they can get to it. Well that right away didn’t sit well with me. I’ve never done it before so I don’t know how it’s gone about. I want to be at the store when it’s done and not be leaving it locked up in one of their safes until they get to it.
Do you have a utube link telling about how to go about getting jewelry appraised to someone who doesn’t know squat about appraising jewelry.

Hi Dr Lori. Recovering from a bad wreck years ago and surgeries like spinal fusion and replacement disc and recently waking up out of depression from all that stuff. I been saving up a bit of money to try my hand at reselling as I was a electronics sales man fresh out of high school. I used to be interested in Vintage cologne and purfumes for myself as the reformulated version of some of my favorite are just ununbearable. Is there any money in this business of vintage fragrances ? Because a diligent shopper can find incredible deals of people selling something not knowing its an original formula. Or should I move on to something eles. The fragrances helped me remember I used to love this stuff and reminded me of better days.

I don't understand if the values that Dr. Lori gives are the values that I could sell a piece for or if it is the price that a dealer would sell that piece to me. So, I guess I am asking -- are the values that Dr. Lori gives the wholesale or retail price?
I use actual sales records, so you can really sell pieces for that much. I have a blog post on my website explaining different values in different venues which may prove helpful. Thanks for your question.
Wish you could come to Joplin. I just bought a ring I think is a diamond cluster at antique store last week. And a 14k gold and gemstone hummingbird pen. Both pieces were $5. I know the latter is genuine, but unsure, but starting to think that the first could be genuine.

Hello Dr Lori, Ive just went through many of your videos about all kinds of antiques, I found a pearl necklace in a goodwill jewerly jar, Do you think that testing pearls by rubbing them on your teeth doesnt proof their real?

Hi Dr Lori, I had a 5 CT diamond switched at my trusted jeweller and I get sick every time I think of the deception and subsequent impotence of not being able to bring him to justice. I live by your jewelry rules and don't know how to get my 3 CT diamond ring sized so I can wear it. Every jeweller says it will take x-many weeks to size so I should leave it. What do you suggest?
Can you go back to the jeweler who sold you the 3 CT ring to have them resize it? A suggestion would be to get an appraisal of the ring before you have it resized. Get it documented of what you have. Then, when you drop it off for resizing tell them you have it documented. After the work is done, get the ring appraised again. Sorry this is the world we live in.

Does all diamonds have good metal on them like gold or silver
Tammy, as with many items and antiques, everyone wants one statement to apply to everything and it just doesn't work that way. The best answer I can offer as a general guide is know and look for quality. If you have a specific piece you are wondering about, I can take a look and help.
I wear the jewelries I inherited from my Mother-in-law everyday. They are all but gold and diamonds, too. I do not believe in keeping it in a box.
