the other huge component is what is charged for certain styles as they come into popularity, plus the difference between the cost to make and what they are sold at (most jewelers sell at at least 300%-400% the cost of the ring, often substantially higher)

Took my 2+ carat ring into a local jeweler, supposedly honest, well-known. I wanted an appraisal. He wouldn't do it in front of me wanted me to leave it, maybe a couple hours, maybe overnight. Then he said he could do it but had to "take it in the back". Gave some kind of excuse. I could just see him stealing it and putting a fake back in the ring. I didn't know any better, but I noped out of there. Good thing. Apparently they should be able to do it in front of you.

I'm just here to tell that diamonds aren't rare but the industry puts a cap on how many diamonds get to be on the market to keep the prices high. A self made limitation so people fight over them lmao. ALSO there is literally a way to make diamonts in a lab and the only thing that can tell the diffrence is a special machiene. Diamond merchers fight so hard against them, saying a natural diamond is somehow better and that's the TEA. If you want the source I can find it for you.

What a unfair test. The valuer's should of been asked how much thay would pay out of there own pocket for the rings. There are many different prices that could be attached to jewellery high end retail, low end retail, insurance valuation, and the most import price and only real price it what someone is actually willing to pay for your ring. The easiest way to make customer happy is to overvalue the items and then say "oh but we don't actually but jewellery" don't believe the hype!
If you want a good deal on a diamond rings avoid the high street and look for established jewels that deal in pre owned jewellery.
