Great tutorial John! I own this lawn mower also - I had my blade sharpened with a nice sharp edge, and this mower went from good to Great! Super light and easy to use.
Just once I would like to see someone do a video taking the blade off a mower that isn't clean and new but has been mowing all season, not cleaned regularly, and stored in a shed, not a heated garage so that the nut has practically welded itself to the bolt. It's always so super easy to loosen and remove a nut on a brand new mower. Those are not the problem cases. No one comes to You Tube to find out how to take a nut off a brand new mower.
I linked to a video that's shorter - and the mower blade and mower has clearly been used. Also very good still closeups of how to ensure the blade holder (goes between the nut and the blade) is positioned properly on re-installation.
Your comment made my day. I was thinking everything you wrote. I sprayed wd40 on the nut and let it sit overnight. With the use of a block to keep the blade from turning I was able to get enough leverage to loosen it. My mower is 6 years old and lived in a shed it’s whole life. Also I am a woman of average strength so miracles do happen.
i used as much force as i could to replace my dull single blade to the cross cut blades on my 40v ry401017vnm mower!! i am still going to invest in a torque wrench to make sure it is secured!!
Word of advice. Do not use a 5/8in. Use a 15mm to prevent slippage. Use a wood block and wear PPE. Torque to 400in lbs. Easy job when it’s brand new. Little bit more stubborn when the lawn mower has been used. Otherwise good video.
Thank you! So if the nut is stuck that plate at 3:22 is the key to work with. Hold the plate washer towards the body of the mower and then work on loosening the nut. Seriously, why isn't that in the manual!
Remember where its made. LOL Its actually supposed to utilize the 15mm socket. Fits much snugger. Less corner wear if you are using an impact. Im sure other people have said that but, i dont read comments alot. Good luck everyone .!everyone ! everyone!

There are videos that do this. 2) Spray wd-40 to penetrate the nut, let it sit for a few minutes and try again.

Well, on my P1180, I block the blade w a block, turn the nut BUT the nut & shaft spin while the blade stays jammed. Those idiots @ RYOBI forgot to make some provision to LOCK the shaft while loosening the nut. At keast a flat spot on the motor shaft where I could hold the shaft w a wrench. My grinder has a button U press & hold while turning the nut. I have to insert a screwdriver into the motor, hoping I dont touch something delicate to lock the rotor while turning my wrench. Im guessing it is only a matter of time before my screwdriver touches something delicate & when I turn my wrench it will break the motor. THANX Ryobi. Good Job. !

Looks simple enough....but when I replace the blade and tighten the nut using a wrench, the whole assembly turns....I can't tighten the nut! What happened? I didn't remove the blade, my lawn guy did, and he returned the sharpened blade for me to put back on. Why is the whole assembly turning? If anyone has some helpful comments, I'd greatly appreciate it.
@@mattbrown1154 I had the same issue, what ended up helping me was a bit of wd-40 on the nut. I sprayed it and let it soak in for a few minutes and then was able to tighten and loosen it. Hope that helps.
What a good way to hurt yourself. You're supposed to use a block of wood for the opposite end of the blade when removing and replacing it. In addition, you're supposed to use a torque wrench when replacing the blade. This way, it wouldn't fly off during operation, or be too tight and crack the nut if tightening blindly.
real cute..not only is this new blade a PIA TO CHANGE,BUT I HAVE TO SHARPEN IT? WHY BOTHER TO BUY A NEW BLADE FOR THEN? baloney- i'll throw the lawn mower and blades out..it never cut decently anyway and can't cut more than 1.5" of grass..not enough power.. back to a Gas mower
It didn't come as sharp as he would like. You typically have to sharpen blades after so much usage regardless of the mower. Maybe if you started with a sharper blade it would cut better.
no pair of scissors,knife of any kind,blade what have you is sharpened to its full potential.im not sure of the reason but all blades need a little fine tuning .i work with leather and all my tools need a little love out of the box.

I found that the nut on my model fit best with a 15mm socket. The blade seems best for two seasons.

I agree! I have the same situation with my car. It ran out of gas and now won’t turn on. I’m gonna get rid of this car and get a battery model!
