Thank you for posting this video, Curtis! I think with everything going, the route of electric vs fuel still leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing I have been happy with is electric hand tools from big-name manufacturers. Even electric cars, and trucks, are having major problems, which are going to take time to work properly with any kind of reliability. 🤗

Greenworks makes an 82v commercial line. If you're going battery, check out their stuff. I use GW82v for all my equipment now since I know Colorado will eventually go the route that California did. Great warranty, no power issues and the batteries are now blue tooth. Ryobi is a cheap mower for small lawns. Like small. Also the new GW commercial line is ipx4, or water resistant. My mower and string trimmer has been caught in the rain on the way home or I've been caught in the rain finishing up a mow. Stuff works like a champ.

My 40V Ryobi, the exact same one in your video has just done the same thing today and when I called the service centre they told me they have had 183 of them in this summer so far for the controller. The part he said would take up to 8 weeks to arrive from china, So yes a very common problem. It worked flawlessly for 16 months. Otherwise this mower has cut very well and is a pleasure to use when its working. I hope the guy in the video was correct when he said after the controller is replaced it fixes the problem.

A neighbor's mower has the same problem. As an electronic hobbyist, I was curious that it could fail so soon - his description was that it just didn't start after sitting in the garage. It appears that the grass was wet on the last usage. As another commenter says, wet grass apparently brings moisture into the controller where it will fail. It should be designed to withstand high humidity like that however. Mowing wet grass is not preferred but does happen frequently and it should fail because of that.

Crazy that people are having trouble with this mower. I have the same mower and have been mowing weekly (May-October) for 3 years now and never had a problem. I think it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread and not having to deal with oil, gas and pulling a rip cord makes it worth every penny. I would have nothing but 😊😊

They are junk period! When they don't even last a year there is a problem. I have two. The junk heap one is in my shed waiting for me to take it to a service center. The old junker that was given to me runs when you cut short grass but cuts out if you cut crab grass or weeds then you have to wait two minutes before you can continue mowing. You must hear that click before the blade will turn. Like I said these are junk. 73

After seeing a lot of bad reviews on these Battery Powered Lawnmowers0 I decided to keep my old Toro recycle mower. Ever feel like the quality of goods are on the decline? I got an Atlas 80V self-propelled (HarborFreight brand). I got 2 batteries, and about 1 year after, one of the batteries just crapped out on me, which was well past the 90 day warranty (isn't 90 days rather short?) Replacing the battery set me back another 150. I'm on my third year with it. That experience did leave me with a bad taste in my mouth, but I still recommend it to others. The reason why I went electric was because I was going through weed eaters every year. Every year I was having to get another weed eater. One issue was that I was getting 2 cycles, which have a shorter life than 4 cycle, but the 4 cycle is heavy, even for a non-pro. Despite having less power than gas, the battery powered weed eater is lighter, and much quieter, so then I just switched the mower, blower, and soon I'll be getting the chainsaw since I already have the batteries that go to it. Speaking of quality, one of my neighbors has a John Deere gas riding mower, and after a few years the engine just quit. Took it to a shop, and the aluminum push rods had worn out and wouldn't articulate the valves anymore. Since when is aluminum used as a push rod? They were special order, but he had them replaced with steel rods. I swear, it almost seems like things are engineered to fail.

I like Ryobi products, but the mowers are going to be a problem, an not just for Ryobi. Mowers built to the same specs like the Ryobi have a fatal flaw ... Rule #1, don't cut damp grass, period. But if you cut wet grass you'll have moisture related issues. Toro has beat the problem. Toro's 60vt models are built like the gas models, a self-propel that drives via a small v-belt to the same "tranny" that the gas models uses ... also, a sealed ele/motor that moisture won't harm. Ryobi, I own just about everything you build, but a 21" mower won't be among the tools.

You hear more issues with Ryobi probably because they sell more mowers than Ego. Pretty much every homeowner goes to homedepot and first thing they buy is a Ryobi product since they are cheaper than others. I heard EGO mowers have issues too, but they sure do look to perform better.

I purchased my Ryobi last year, and I'm experiencing problems with it. So I drove an hour from Orlando to Alatqip Lawnmover in ( Lakeland, FL) where customer service told me to take it to. Well, come to find out that my transmission is bad and Alatqip has currently been waiting on my part for two months now. Royboi company said if my lawnmower is still at Alatqip's facility for another month, I will get a brand new one. The moral to the story is that I will NEVER buy any products from Ryobi again.

I will never buy another Ryobi product again. The first mower I bought lasted about a year and a half. I chalked it up to being left out during a bad storm. Oh well, my bad. Bought a 401017 mower and it did the same thing. Wiring on these sucks. Batteries always need to be disassembled and "reset". This thing is of the poorest quality of any yard equipment I've ever bought.

I have a Ryobi mower also and while it does function as it should, I find it does not do a very good job. I have to go over the same run twice to cut it properly (nice healthy thick grass) and even then, it leaves many grass blades "bent" not "cut" and .. new blade, nice and sharp. When this mower packs it in (stops working), I'll go back to a gas powered mower. The gas mower has MUCH more power and does a much better job cutting the grass. It is my belief (from a little bit of research) that the blades on the battery mowers don't spin as fast as the blades on a gas mower and as such, the grass does not get the lift up, which results in a poor cutting performance. In summary ... I love the convenience (fold it upright and store it) but I don't like the performance.

40 volts is weak compared to higher voltages. I think Ryobi batteries don't really hold that much energy either. Ego, for example, has batteries that can hold 240wH (5ah fairly low capacity) to their battery that holds 560wh (10ah)... They even have a 12ah battery. Not quite commercial quality but definitely better than Ryobi 40v. Just don't get that thousand dollar push mower that ego has. The push assist is kinda wonky.

Yeah that's how I get extra batteries. I bought a leaf blower and the string trimmer. I have two 4 amp hour batteries and the mower came with two six amp hour batteries. Still another issue you cannot charge the battery right after using it the battery has to cool down before it can be charged I must have high grass because with all the batteries I have i barely get the quarter acre mowed . I'm currently using a gasoline mower probably that's the route I'm going to take. I won't even consider a riding model. Ryobi has issues they need to solve. 73

After multiple phone calls to the company, I got 2 new batteries at 1/2 price. But now I see why, they discontinued my mower and the 56 volt batteries. Yes, the batteries need a cool off period before charging again. I like the fact there is no maintenance with these mowers, just sharpen blades and a spray of oil.
I hope to get 5 years out of these batteries.
With battery powered equipment, as technology changes, everything may just be a throw away item. What a shame.
