I started playing guitar in 1985, my sophomore yr in HS, and it's 2021. That's a lot of practice time and a lot of video time and I must say that this is one of the most endearing and genuinely complimentary clips I've seen. Really cool.

Number 1 Van Halen gal here! In my teens I met EVH & he was a super down to earth guy. I used to live in California & every Van Halen concert i attended. I was young, impressionable & naive & I idolized EVH. This sounds horrible I watched him chain smoke both on stage & off & began to smoke? Luckily I quit after one year . I wish Eddie would have quit in his youth. Heck even at 40, yet he continued. He also blamed his tongue cancer on guitar picks. I truly believe that he would still be shredding his guitar, laughing with his son, going for walks on the beach, hugging his wife, living to the fullest had he not chain smoked. Unfortunately at around 60 drugs, alcohol, cigarettes will begin to poison the human body. With Eddie's life in the fast lane lifestyle ~ I consider it a blessing he made it till 65. RIP 🙏 EVH. You will never be forgotten.
Many smokers blame their cancer on something else like Eddie. They tell themselves it will all be ok so they don't have to quit. Smoke your whole life and it's almost a guarantee you'll die younger than if you hadn't smoked. RIP Eddie
Eddie knew what took his life and even spoke of it briefly. It wasn't the drugs alcohol or ciggarettes. He said it was being surrounded by all the frequencies from the electronics. EMFs. We are constantly unconscionably creating our reality daily . Our beliefs dictate how that reality will turn out for us. Eddie chain smoked meaning he smoked probably 6 to 7 pcks a day. Now thats If he slept that night!!
If he stayed up snorting cocaine drinking and playing guitar. He may have smoked. 10 a day if he chain smoked.. But his beliefs were that ciggs wouldn't kill him so they didn't. Its the same as firewalkers that walk barefoot across 1700 degree white hot coals... Its their beliefs. The body and mind are amazing pieces of equipment. We are dealing with things that have never been taught to us. And for a very good reason I may add!! Because if they knew we understood how powerful we are when we truly believe in something they would totally loose all control over the masses. And they cant have that now cam they.. We can do ANYTHING WE WANT WHEN WE TRULY BELIEVE IN IT. PERIOD!!! I say this only because I know. When you care about and love someone without understanding what I just spoke of we always jump in and say damn it honey I wish you would quit those things they will kill you. It is that injection of thought that can get into the subconscious mind and cause problems with the creation of another reality . when someone doesn't believe that something will hurt them .

But, when someone comes along and starts pounding another outcome into that individuals belief process it can start to doubt what he's been believing up to that point . and when it does it breaks down his own belief system and actually causes the act to start manifesting. I've witnessed this many times. I knew one guy that drank a quart of vodka and smoked 4 packs of camel non filters a day. He was 97 years old when he died and still running a fishing guide service for bass fisherman.. do u know what killed him ??
A wet floor tile!! Yep. He slipped on a wet floor in his kitchen and fell back and split his head wide open on the tile floor. It knocked him out and he blead to death and never woke up. When you truly believe in something , kryptonite wont phase you.
Because we are that powerful. A lot of this new stuff is coming out about our minds today so we can all learn about it and become the powerful individuals we once were again.. Mind over matter.
I get a chuckle when I hear people always saying , " ill believe it when I see it".
Its just the opposite! You wont be able to see it because you haven t manifested it yet until you believe it to be real. Lol lol
Its an amazing world we live in. For sure.
But anyway frequencies definitely effect this electrical body.. Frequencies can conflict with other frequencies causing harm and even death to our bodies. Depending on the type of frequency it is, it could be healing or detrimental to our bodies like electricity. We need protection from EMFs for sure. So sad he passed away before he invented some type of a device that would do it better than a faraday cage. This will protect and block them but its very crude and in the raw designing stages still . it hadn't been modified to bring into our daily lives like a jacket you would wear or something similar like that. .
One day very soon when these thousands of patents can be released we will manufacture something that works to save lives. .. RIP. EVH. ❤💪🇺🇸✌✌😎

You nailed it when you said he was what happens, when you conquer the world at 18 years old. You don't have to grow up, & you can stay in a perpetual state of never having to grow up, & he had his everyday struggles, and health issues, but to be in that state all the time, would have to be sublime, and maybe a little scary, but, the "good" kind of scary... "Roller coaster scary."

I'm lucky enough to have toured with Disturbed, Anthrax, Soil, American Head Charge and we even opened for the Big 4 in Poland (DREAM)!.....I hear exactly what you're saying brother - It's so surreal. We're to lucky to have experienced it. Eddie was my hero ...Saw him live in '84 and in the 90's....Van Halen though....AMAZING!!!
I was at a couple of shows that tour. I did get to talk to Eddie at souncheck. I had drank too much by then and I told him I wanted to sing and he said go ahead. I did, he winced and made a "that's terrible' face and we both laughed.

To me definitely one of your best episodes. 30 seconds talk about a Rolex and half an hour of real life glorious stories. Which should be exactly the way you enjoy any watch. You buy it. You’re happy with it. And you take him out to your life adventures. Thanks man.

This was the most poignant tribute to Eddie among all the ones that came out in the days after his death. I watched it at the time but forgot to leave a comment and just stumbled across it again. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this.
Same here. Love the end where he talks about guitar geeks (like me) and how they have to analyze everything. We watch their fingering, want to see how they roll off/on the volume or tone knobs, pedals they use, the guitar's action, how they bend strings, do they play with 3 fingers or use all 4 etc. There's a video on YT that captured one of King Edward's last live performances and they recorded it close up on Ed's playing for nearly the whole concert. Stuff like that is solid gold to us.

The Missus woke me up crying and for the entire day we couldn’t listen to a note of King Edward without the waterworks comin’ - so many good times with his music -it felt weird
We found watching interviews with him and other kind folks like yourself paying tribute to Eddie makes it somewhat easier to bear. We literally had a day of intensely mourning. It might sound daft but Ed’s playing and attitude is hugely responsible for inspiring me to be the person I am.

most people don’t know the King Edward was a bi-racial half Asian / half white Immigrant and that his lifelong friends were the black kids who stood up for them when they came to the US. A definitive American Dream story.
Eddie played the solo on Michael Jackson’s Beat it, re-arranged it so it sounded more ‘Rock’ and introduced Michael to a wider audience for free.
Eddie buried Dimebag Darrell from Pantera with his original Bumblebee Guitar when Dime’s life partner Rita asked him to make a Copy Ed said “an Original deserves an Original”
Vinnie Paul ( Pantera ) Dimebag’s brother says the last words his brother said to him was Van f+*in Halen’ their nightly ritual before hitting the stage.
He gave Jerry Cantrell 5150 Stacks after touring with Alice In Chains and the last concert he went to was TOOL and a TOOL fan asked him to take a picture of the fan in front of Tool’s stage and he did, The fan had no idea who Ed was and Ed was chill with it.
Frank Zappa loved and respected Eddie and got him to teach Dweezil who was obsessed with ED When Frank died Ed was THE 1st first to call with condolences and to offer any assistance.
He did the same for Chris Cornell Guitarist Pete Thorn when Chris Passed
He got Allan Holdsworth signed to Warner to introduce Allan to a wider audience
He was the 1st to mod his guitars in such an extreme way chasing tone, Creating the Super Strat - Humbuckers in Strat style guitars, Waxing Pickups, Variac on his amp and did his first 2 albums with the original Fender Whammy which led to the creation of the Floyd Rose

Les Paul Said Ed, him & Leo Fender are the only guys who know how to make guitars
His 5150 Amp is still THE go to amp and sound of Modern metal, Gojira use the EVH 5150
His Rhythm Playing was funky, tasteful and rockin’ and his songwriting is the reason his loss is affecting grandparents, parents, kids and all ethnicities alike as Van Halen songs will live forever.
He bravely and quietly fought cancer for 20 years

Humbucker's in strat was done be for the legend evh. Richard dashiell guitarist played with harvey mandel. Had a strat with les paul pickup in 1970. Afew other's did as well. Gary moore had a strat with 2 humbucker's in 77-78. Blackmore in 73-74 had 2 humbucker's in his strat's. Ed had the Floyd rose which he took play8ng to the next level.
Toby Jepson (Wayward Sons) often speaks fondly of his experiences supporting both Van Halen and Bryan Adams when his band, The Little Angels were active. Like you, he shares the same sentiments about Eddie and Bryan, and how welcoming, friendly and supportive both gentlemen were. Thanks for a truly enjoyable story!

Awesome story man , Eddie was so easy goin , even when he was upset, he had a awesome soul and personality, definitely one of a kind, we didn't even get to see what he was capable of , if he had lived another 20 years we probably would have seen crazy awesome music from him as he aged, unfortunately god needed him more. 😭
The 2004 Van Halen "reunion" tour is an infamous chapter in Van Halen lore. Sammy Hager talks about it at length in his memoir "Red". It wasn't a happy time for them.

Me too. This was my first visit to this channel. I really appreciated the parts about the backwards facing PA system and the gear dorks (me) in the snakepit trying to get off...ahh, it's a great instrument, I've been at it 30 years. I finally accomplished my goal of being able to produce sounds as good as what I've been hearing since I was a kid. Tone chasing has transformed the way I play, especially playing and writing insane solos.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience and insights with us. Very good video. I'm a guitarist also and a lifelong VH fan. Like millions of fans, I am grieving the tragic loss of EVH. I was at a VH show when the tensions with Sammy were at their peak. I could hear and feel that everything was not right...and so could many other fans. Big difference from the first gig I saw Sammy play with the band in 1985. Sooner or later the competing egos use up all the oxygen in the room.
That was an excellent story and enjoyed every moment of it!

I remember when Van Halen was "Mammoth" before changing to V.H they played back yard parties in South Pasadena, Alhambra, Arcadia etc. It's awesome that you got to play with them. I remember seeing them at the Us Festival. When I describe that concert, I always mention VH. The music "POWER" just Fn POWER, the whole length of the stage behind them was a wall of speakers. If you find that show on youtube you will be amazed at the set up. That sucks that you didn't get paid and even worse that whoever mgmt. was took 20% of your merch. earnings.

Great Story! Was my first concert. July 1981, I was 14. When you described how loud I laughed. My ears rang for 2 days. I never forgot that wall of Volume! They definitely didn’t mess around Right from the in your face opener “Im on Fire” Probably have been to 300 Arena shows since that one, but I will never forget that sweaty crazy night at The Boston Garden. Love your channel. I wear my Submariner proudly every day. Bought it from an AD earlier this year!

this story was very good and informative. I was surprised and very sad to hear that you guys didn't get paid to play with them. I hate that the music industry has money hungry cooperate people that are so cheap that they wouldn't pay the opening band. I’ve been playing the guitar for 58 years,i was never into Eddy but I admired his playing, I was into jazz fusion, I understand all about playing lots of small venues, barely made a living, but it sure was fun.

What I would have done to be able to be around EVH. I had an opportunity as a teenager to meet and hang out with SRV when he was starting to blow up. My uncles best friend owned a recording studio outside of Atlanta and SRV had booked the studio for 3 nights while he was in town so I got to sit in and listen to him and Double trouble. He’d leave the venue after the show and go to the studio and just dink around and record it all. He was the nicest guy to be around and I’ll never forget those times. Much love from Raeford NC USA. Good story. I wasn't a huge fan of VH but I remember hearing them a lot in the 1980's. How could you not? Anyway my friend grew up next door to David Lee Roth in Pasadena. Lots of stories there as well! Keep up the good work and storytelling.

Me too. We used an old plumbers van. With no windows and no seats in the back. We sat on the mains & hard cases. Good times.
