As a proper Omega owner, and MoonSwatch owner - respectfully, both are fun and purposeful watches. Sometimes, we take these things too deep to heart, forgetting that life is all about fun and not our egos. Whatever choice you make, it's your life and your money. Have fun, and enjoy!
FYI, my daughter gave me the MoonSwatch, and more people at my office BY FAR compliment my MoonSwatch over my Speedmaster. I enjoy the Swatch more!

What color is yours? Does it matter on average? I’m in an odd place with mine bc I bought one for my cousin while in Denmark 🇩🇰 & now back in the USA 🇺🇸 I just remembered like 2 months later I put it away somewhere in my house.. I almost put it on but it is green as they didn’t have the blue, I MUCH prefer my beautiful blue & silver Movado watch which matches me, my style & etc. I tried to ship it to him in Germany after a flight but I couldn’t find a place, he told me like 1.5 months ago it’d cost too much to ship so should I save it for collectors? At this point I don’t much care but it’s kind of cool to me & id like to know thoughts?

I love the Omega brand but have never really been able to afford it or never internally could justify buying one. I refused to pay any sort of resale values for these until I got the Mission to the Moon at retail. I loved it so much, put different straps, wore it daily for about a month and then literally out of the blue decided to take the plunge and buy myself an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. My decision to get the moonSwatch was the reason i transitioned to the MoonWatch. And then of course I bought a few more MoonSwatches only because they are fun things to wear and you can colour coordinate them with sneakers or a fit. And of course, it’s brought SO many people into the hobby! Which is always a good thing.

I’m not sure where the reliability question comes from, first, I’ve been collecting Swatch since ‘84 and every watch still works, no problems to this day, yes a few bands needed replacing but not one watch has failed. As for all people reporting issues, as someone that deals with warranty repairs every day I would love to know the number of watches sold to the number with failures, every company knows a certain % will fail that they cover under warranty, and people complaining get more attention than all the ones that just work. Whether it’s worth the money or isn’t an omega I don’t really care, but swatch quality in the nearly 40 years I’ve been collecting is 100% success rate.

I think that this is a smart move for the big brands, even though they have to somehow "spend" their prestige if, as you said, they're able to convert 5% directly to their brand that's already a huge win. But if someone doesn't feel like buying the "main" version of that watch but still interested in watches, is one more wrist, maybe someone who started with a MoonSwatch will end up with an AP, and maybe if there was a colab as you suggested (Casio x AP) someone who started there would end up with an Omega. Very, very good video, mista! Initially, I wanted to buy the whole collection. After initial failure because I was not nearby any swatch boutique, I gave up. By no means buying a premium price for dishonest flippers. I decided finally and bought a Speedmaster 3861 brand-new flesh and bone. I am much more than happier.

We love them. Watches are personal, if you like then go for it. Truthfully, $300 isn’t really an issue in my current financial situation and in a few years I’ll pick up a proper Omega, but for now what more could I ask? The watch has already created a friendship and is a great story piece. If it only lasts 2 years I won’t really care, it’s already paid dividends.

I remember going to King of Prussia mall in PA (the only Swatch boutique around that wasn't in NYC), and there was a line all the way to the door of the mall, before they had even opened the mall itself. Within 5 minutes of my arrival, security came around to those of us at the back third of the line, saying sorry all the watches had been spoken for. So I go off further into the mall, passing the rest of the line, and saw that about of the first 30 people in line, almost all of them were clearly on their phones, setting up ebay listings....the majority of the boutique's watches all went to resellers, who within 30 minutes of posting those listings, already had bids for the Mission to the Moon, and Mercury as high as $1500. I've never been able to find another Moonswatch that wasn't going for at least 2x retail. Utterly killed my desire for one. Especially after hearing that people were posting about the thing breaking on them, or the acrylic crystal being so soft, that if the thin cardboard lips of the box brushed against it, as you opened the box, it would scratch the hell out of the watch.

I was lucky enough to purchase the mission to the moon earlier this year while I was in Venice. I have enjoyed this watch and have taken it with me on my travels. I’ve definitely put a few good scratches on the “crystal”. It’s definitely pricier than what it actually is but I’m not upset by my purchase. My grail watch is the 50th anniversary speed master. Id rate it a solid 7/10

Just got my mission to moon and my honest opinion is 1.change the straps around so the omega symbol is away from you. 2. keep it in your dresser or wherever and only wear it when youre going out. i almost ruined mine doing work around the house on the 2nd day. luckily the tool hit the velcro strap and not the watch face.

I only have ever liked one watch in my entire life just because of this purple it transforming its dial to purple overtime, “life Dating back to 1978, this Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner 1608/8 is crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold. When it was first produced it had the blue bezel and matching blue dial configuration. However, over the years, it has transformed into the rich purple shade we see now. Which, along with the blue bezel, gold case and bracelet, and gold accents on the dial, it is a fantastic look. Adding to the distinct appeal are the nipple style hour markers that are found on gold vintage Submariners 1680/8. The bezel still includes the original luminescent pearl within the inverted triangle, while the Mercedes style hands are luminescent thanks to its tritium material.”

I think overall at retail they are fine. Slightly more expensive than the fancy(non-automatic) swatch's and they look cool. I think if you pay 1 CENT over retail you paid too much and if you can get one on sale even better. Unfortunately the blue one is always sold out though. I have the mission to earth one and its not bad. Good sporty watch for tooling around when i dont feel like wearing my gshock.

A proper CasiOak would be a legendary watch. I think the biggest hurdle there is what price point do you target? Casio already sells watches in the $1000+ market. If you make the jump to $2k or $3k there might be other watches that will hold value better, maybe that could fit in that category. Over $5k you start having some real options.

I agree with this entire video 100% however I would add that I think the much smarter move would have been to make the moonswatch in the quality fitting with the price. Either leave as is and drop the price down to 50.00 or make it have the quality of a 250.00 watch. I think that would have built a much larger customer base for both brands. Also on the casio and AP collab that I wish would happen. I think it would be beyond genuis. It would bring AP to the masses and creat such brand awareness it would be as known as Rolex. Sure the conversion rate would not be massive however the conversion rate from non watch people to watch and would build their name

I've been harping on about these watches and this very issue since the launch. Initially I was really excited that I could (would) get an Omega branded watch for around $350 AUD.
As living in rural Australia, Swatch stated they'd be available online and not having access to a Swatch "boutique", I thought awesome I can get one.
Then they ran out, and then they decided not to sell online, and then they decided to drip feed supply only through "selected boutiques" and this basically torpedoed my hopes of owning one.
In my opinion the cynical Rolexesque limiting of supply and cash grab that preceded the initial release has destroyed my desire to own what I believe is a really cool relatively affordable watch.
There is not a snowflakes chance in hell that I'm paying overs for one to the equally arsehole flippers online.
Lastly, as far as I'm concerned, Swatch and Omega can collectively get stuffed.

  • @1SaG

Quite late to the party, but I'm still a bit baffled by the reported lack of build quality on these things. I've owned quite a few standard and non-standard Swatch-watches (like the Scuba 200). But more importantly, I owned one of their first Irony chronos which was a gift from my then-girlfriend. She must've bought that thing for me in the late 90s (1996? 1997?) and I wore that watch as a daily for at least 10 years. At some point, it got downgraded to a holiday watch, but it did last until about 2014 when some of the movement's functions started to get wonky - probably due to internal wear and tear. The case, bracelet, crown/pushers and all that other stuff however were still totally fine after all those years. I also never had any real issues with any other, non-steel, Swatch models I've owned (and I did start wearing them as a kid/teen in the 1980s).
All of which is to say that, IMO, Swatch have always known how to build these things right and I do believe they generally last much longer than some folks think. So I don't think it's too far fetched to suspect that these mechanical defects out of the box on the Moonswatch were at least in part deliberate.

It's a watch you can't fix. Even a $20 Timex you can pop the back off. . . Even a MVMT
Swatch's are crap and you're supporting a company that's AGAINST the right to repair when you buy one of their products. No, absolutely not. Bad watch, bad company.

Traveled to greece from Australia last week and had a 2 hour layover at Doha international airport. I couldn't believe how many of these things I saw on many and varied wrists. It's like everywhere I walked, I saw someone wearing one. Cut to yesterday, in Rome now and stumbled across a swatch shop while exploring the city. Now, in Australia we have only 1 swatch store. One!!!! In the entire country. When this was released over a year ago I wanted one. Couldn't get it because I live about 5000km from said shop.... so I just said oh well. Anyway.... the line up, still outside the Rome store for these things was silly. I waited....and I finally bought myself mission to moon. Love it. Yes, it's plastic, yes it's quartz, is it cool...fuk yea.
The buzz has still not died away. I think what ever gets people interested in watches can only be a good thing. Anyway...I'm happy... brilliant

Got a Mercury in my collection, its a nice watch. First thing I did though was to ditch the strap for a black stainless bracelet, looks far better. Not a watch you can hammer everyday for sure though, I managed to scratch the crystal within a few hours, polywatch and a screen protector sorted this.
It does feel cheap, you know you're wearing a Swatch and not a Omega.
Is it worth the money in my eyes? I agree with you, No its not but people are paying it. It's a sub £100 watch at heart but Swatch have played one hell of a game with the Moonswatch.
