I love how the new Mazda 6 looks. I test drove one too but I can't seeem to have THAT feeling I get from an Accord. Maybe I will give both cars another shot before choosing between the two.
I've loved my mazdaspeed 3 for all of its 100k miles. I need something bigger for my 4 person family now and am looking at the 6 but just don't think I can deal with something that anemic in power. Any suggestions?

2016 CX-5 GPS PROBLEM Does any body know when Mazda will resolve the real-time "traffic update" feature on its new (2016) NAVTEC GPS for the CX-5? The option doesn't work (it is gray), so alternate route(s) are not displayed when traffic delays, congestion, accidents, detours, road construction, etc. are encountered on a planned route.On the previous CX-5 models (2014; 2015), the TomTom feature was called "traffic alert" and it worked (most of the time).
Hopefully Mazda will put the 2.5 turbo that's gonna debut in the new cx9 and add that engine to the Mazda6 and add awd. If those two things were added the Mazda6 will be absolutely perfect!!
Just got the Mazda 6 as rental.....the gas mileage is almost at hybrid levels. Drove 550 plus miles (south carolina to new Jersey) and still had a gallon or two left. I'm impressed.

Thanks for this. I've been keen on both cars. The CX-5 space and ride height would be better but the 6 style and mileage sells it for me. Have to wait 2 years though, but it's at the top of the list.
You should have done a cargo capacity comparison. The trunk pass through on the 6 is really impressive

I have the 16 CX-5 GT Electronics package, version for this year is nice! Be aware of the issues present on previous generation... Multimedia sound system froze with, well, everything, dealer replace it. Bluetooth still weak and slow and has sound delay.. Well, you get the idea. Sound is great. Came "low on freon..." as the dealer documented. Great gas mileage, response handling was good (on 20x9 Ace Alloy Scorpio/Nitto) now looks and feels as I like it. Paid 30k after some good hours with the site/dealer director. Suggestion: download equipment and options list prior to negotiate/commit. Remote starter not a factory option, installed at dealer for $500. Enjoy your CX-5!

Hi guys, quick question. I'm looking for a fun car to drive and I'm thinking either the Mazda 6 or the 3. Which car is more fun to drive? (btw it has to be manual).
If handling is your main concern, the 3 is smaller and lighter, so it will handle better. The 3i with the 2.0 has the same 0-60 time as the 6i with the 2.5. The 3s with the 2.5 is faster to 60, but costs $6000 more than the base 3i and $1800 more than the base 6i, ignoring equipment differences.

Agreed with emme Mazda is definitely killing it with their kodo design I hope the Mazda 6 becomes the best selling mid size sedan same goes for the of rest of Mazda's line up and their classes
I have a mazda 6 Gt and i love it love how drives and the fuel economy y great, but i think a turbo to do some 240hp should be great at this car...

@TJBellamy99 it the refresh rate of the camera filming. If its filming at 60 fps, and the LED is cycling at 60 Hz, you'll see the flicker. That's the natural on off cycle of LEDs. To avoid this some LED manufacturers can bump the refresh rate to 120 Hz, but that's more expensive and most people are not affected by it anyway. Very few people can see the flicker naturally, only on camera.
Why is doubling the frequency of the LEDs more expensive? Doesn't make sense to me.
I have bought a few cars new, wife's Camry, my accord... I bought a Mazda and I must say when it was new the motor was noisy, now that I have 60,000 miles it is very quiet, and has much more power.. It has been a great car to us and has been as reliable as our Honda and Toyota so far..
1500 miles--- steering has more effort on center than I would like and tires do follow the road which can be tiring with constant corrections .Dealer's master mechanic says its normal. That said I do like this car over all. As for power after pushing it to the floor the seems to be a button that really makes it take off like the old style passing gear. Actually laid down 30 ft of rubber right in front of my house ----OPPS! quite a surprise On test drive I though it seemed under powered but now I find it is already in 3 gear in half way though tuning out of the dealership.
Stuck between these two vehicles. Need comfy room for 5 but want that great MPG Cant decide!
I never understood this, but why does the LED day running lights flicker when a car headlights are on?
They flicker all the time. It saves electricity. We can't see it because our eyes are too slow and it blinks too quickly
It looks like they are flickering because we are looking at them from the camera
All lights powered by A/C or controlled by microprocessors flicker. In the case of A/C the power is being generated by revolving magnets so the electricity goes high low high low at very fast speeds (ex: 60 hz) and we can't see that so it looks like its always on. If controlled via microprocessor it is dependant on the clock speed but same principal.
TJBellamy99 Because LEDs need specific voltage and current and in most cases they're regulated by the electronics through PWM - pulse width modulation. In short - basically all LEDs you see are blinking all the time. They're doing it so fast that your eyes can't see it but sometimes the frequency overlaps with camera's framerate. That's why they're flickering on the video.
Jack Farello No it can not be because of the camera, the LED day time running lights on my parent's car does the same thing!

Mazda 6 definitely need that V6 from the CX9 to match the aggressive design. We need 2 engine options Mazda like we always have!
I pulled the trigger and bought a Mazda 6 and after 500 miles I find it has enough power, my other car has a 4.6 v8 with 4.10 gears and the Mazda is equally fun to drive, just different. It has the power to come out of a curve the same as a Miata which always put a smile on my face . It's hard to judge a car when stepping out of a straight line hotrod then into a drivers car. It would be better if they reviewed car with 4 people and a load of luggage which a sedan would very likely have to preform with.

I keep hearing that Mazda will bring a diesel to North America. Any thoughts as to how that's coming along. The high compression skyactive is neat for efficiency, but not diesel neat.
***** Mazda's diesels are not very economical, real world consumption is just slightly lower than in 2.0 gas engine.

Xezatt 3000rpm is quite a lot for a diesel engine. Thing is - Mazda' diesels have pretty narrow power band compared to another modern oil burners.

folks remember the cx5 is a 4 cyl. 3500 lb AWD... not built for the drag strip,,, more for mileage and comfort with all wheel traction and just a little ummph. and looks great ,,,, hate wagons unless they are 55 to 57 nomads !
The Mazda6, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima and Ford Fusion are the best in class in my opinion.

OK , drove the 6 today and honestly was disappointed. This was the car I had settled on after watching you and all the rest evaluate all midsized inexpensive sedans. Normal auto mode when I stepped down !/4 throttle I swear the engine turned around and said whattttt. Not great for jumping out into Friday traffic. Reminded me of a 80's Mercedes which couldn't make up it's mind which gear to use. Steering was heavy , didn't push it but would be tiring driving the back roads of Tennessee. Just sold my 97 Miata and was looking for something sensible to fill the garage space. Just moved here from Denver with my 97 Miata and a 04 mountaineer ( 4.6 v8 tow package stock 4.10 gears) electric gas pedal---touchy! Hoped to find something cool and tight around 25000. Tried the 3 and it was slightly better but no sport mode. Got to go big bucks for leatherette seats Now I have to start all the hunt all over , hopefully there something worthwhile! Ford Chevy Hyundai Toyota Nissan ,trying to stay away from turbos (old school ---73yrs old). Shame I'm not in Denver (No country for old men).
+chuckwalla Well I broke down and bought a 2016 6 (sticker) Because of looks but when I got home and cleaned it up I realized the grill was the same as a 2015--- guess screwed again. Other choice had a CVT trans which seems nobody likes.
+Sailor john After 500 miles I have found that the driving experience comes on when it is pushed a little. The throttle response requires more pressure than I was used to. Sport mode really helps. Definitely better than My first driving experience . My other choice was a Nissan but the driving experience was good until I got on the highway then It made a sound like someone had opened a back window with a painful throbbing in my ears. I believe that particular vehicle had a problem ,maybe the exhaust pipe up against the frame. Plus I wouldn't spring for the cost of leatherite seats . Their idea of beige in cloth was too pink for me. Mazda 6 would really benefit from quieter tires ( noise rating on Dunlop sp 5000 is poor according to Tire rack) and a bit of toein to make steering around center easier. Wide tires have better traction but can make steering a bit heavy.

Anton Hetz I agree, the picture quality is excellent. The colour balance and contrast are massively improved, and the picture is almost 3D.
It lacks sound deadening and the paint quality is questionable under cold climates. That said, the 6 is nice.

Why would anyone pay so much for a Mazda 6? You can get an Infiniti for a bit more. The performance difference will be huge
Actually the 6 is on the cheaper side of the mid size cars when completely loaded. The fusion, accord and 200 top that category. So yea i rather get a fully loaded mid size sedan than a base entry level car.
madridtillidie You can get a premium Infiniti Q50 for $40K. It has all the goodies of a loaded mid size sedan, plus a 3.7L engine, 330HP, better brakes, etc. It's also a lot more fun to drive.
ericj305 yeah, I agree on buying the base Mazda 6. I just don't like the idea of spending a lot more to get fancy options for an economy car.
MM 754 Some people want the luxuries but want good gas mileage. Mazda6 will win in the gas mileage, maintenance, insurance, and interior room categories.
You compared the premium line msrp which is one level above their base model. If you apply your logic for mazda it would be touring trim which is 23k. That's 14k in difference. If you search this channel they did a mash up of a q50 and their as tested price was 53k. Good luck finding a mazda6 for that price.

How can a 185hp car be as fast to 60 as mine 95hp car?! Even if it's heavier.
Testing at mile high always makes the normally aspirated engines look bad. The 6 is much more peppy than that.

I drove a 2015 Chrysler 200 4cyl with 184hp (decent power) in Denver. The car consistently accelerated 0 - 60 in around 13 seconds being alone in the car, and I'm only abt 170lbs. That's at least 4 seconds slower than the sea level 0 to 60 time.
I'm sorry, but doing a 0-60 test run a mile above sea level is pointless.....unless you live in that type of elevation, which the vast majority of the country doesn't.
My 06 Mazda6 Wagon with 73k miles is faster...Still love these and would love to turbocharge a new 6 cause nothing matches a Mazda's personality!
Conclusion: Crossovers are stupid and if the the Mazda 6 was a wagon it would be better in every single way.
kirbyswarp I completely agree, I love wagons, and I wished more people in North America would love them too, so we can actually purchase one. All the utility of a cross over, but all of the driving dynamics of a sedan, plus the fuel economy. So frustrating. You can pretty much only get wagons with luxury brands, and whats worse they charge you more to get the wagon over the cuv variant (case in point BMW 3 series wagon, and the X3).

kirbyswarp not if you you're going to a secluded cabin in central Pennsylvania where the roads are complete sh*t. You could classify me as the typical outdoorsy Subaru owner but wanted more power and refinement so I went with the CX-5. Don't get me wrong, I grew up in 2 different Volvo station wagons (240 and V70) so I've got a fondness for them but when you need ground clearance there's no other way around it. Most Americans rarely take their cars on a hilly, dirt road let alone a muddy street corner so yes I will agree, for most people wagons are better in every way.

these 0-60 times are way off cx5 can do way better than 10.8 and so can the 6. in my 2.5l i can get 7.8sec 0-60mph.

Jeff K I had the original model mazda6 and now have the 2014 mazda6, and yes I miss the "zoom zoom" of the V6. On the flip side the MPG is substantially better.

Le Monarque Yeah, I think Ford has done a great job with having their ~240 hp EcoBoost 4 Cyliner engine available in the Fusion.
Without having an engine like that, I'm not sure I would consider owning the Mazada 6, despite it looking great.
(And being in Canada, an AWD option would also be very attractive to me.)
