    The reason people buy a Camry because they think it's the most reliable car in the world and will go through a billion miles without breaking a sweat. In reality, that mazda is probably just as reliable.

    I love it when im driving on the streets and several times I will see many makes and models ,but only one Mazda per day if im lucky. Its cool to know that not to many people are buying the type of car that I have .This makes my car stand out from the crowd . Who wants to be driving something that others are driving . It begins to get bland and unnoticable .

I currently own a honda I love my honda don’t get me wrong but I want something different and a unique driving experience for a change and I use to like Mazdas back in high school now I’m 28 And I’m strongly considering buying a Mazda.

    The 4 cylinder is not the reason for lack of sales since 4 out of every 5 Honda Accords, Nissan Altimas, and Toyota Camrys are 4 cylinder. I think it has to do with brand recognition.

  • @NGC7603
    @NGC7603 7 років тому +62

    Current mazda6 drives great, read up on their Skyactiv tech, it's not about "oh more cylinders would be better", look at their compression rate, look at the torque. It's actually better than what Camry has to offer, plus, if you don't know, Mazda offered a stock "sport" mode on this last gen in restyle only, what it does is not only some better gear shifting, it also keeps the RPM up for optimal torque, makes the gas pedal more responsive etc. I love how it drives in that mode.
    And comparing Mazda to korean cars like Kia or Hyundai is laughable. Kia bought Mazda engines for years, before making something of their own, Hyundai is just the definition of "el cheapo" in materials and design, I owned some, they never drive well. Mazda's real comparison is Honda as a rival brand in Japan. You know, a real car brand, not the fake-copycat-wannabe type.
    The reason why Mazdas don't sell well is the same reason of why most people prefer fastfood that makes them fat - most people are dumb.

    I think people overlook the Mazda 6 because they either forget Mazda exists while they're shopping or they aren't familiar enough with the brand and go with something they know like Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. Mazda has never sold cars in huge numbers in the US. They've always kind of been a niche brand.
    I have a 2015 Mazda 6 with the 6-speed manual and it's a great car. It's beautiful, fun to drive, reliable, roomy, fuel efficient, and low maintenance. Yes, the engine is a bit anemic but I'll sacrifice some power for its amazing fuel efficiency, and while some people will be put off by there not being a more powerful engine option, I would say 8/10 buyers in this segment would be satisfied with the SkyActive 2.5.
    I also have to address the elephant in the room here. The biggest reason besides the manual transmission that I bought the 6 is because every other sedan in the class is so unfortunate looking compared to the 6. The 6 is a leggy supermodel compared to its competitors.

    We just picked up the 2016 wagon for the wife and I absolutely love it. it makes me want to just go for a drive for no other reason other than driving it. It's got enough power, it's quiet, solid, relaxed and comfortable. Sure it could be better in some areas, but for the money you get an amazing car, and reliability. The Camry is for people who have given up on life.....hence the reason it sells so many.

      few examples why I hated it:
      this girl is attractive enough to be my girl friend...
      this car is good enough for a person like me...
      this food is good enough for me but not good enough for your brother...

With all the traffic light and city traffic, power is useless. 184 HP is enough for most drivers. Agree. Mazda 6 great car that stands out and it’s fun to own and drive. More exclusive

      It is really unnerving to read people's comments like the will blow away the Mazda. Really? Even if it is a full second of difference in 0-60mph, so what? When does that matter? Are people testing every car they pull up next to at a light? With that mentality why buy anything other than the fastest car available? I want to get a new car that has a driver's dynamic that makes me enjoy driving the car every time I have to go somewhere. My current daily driver is a 2006 Mazda3, 5sp manual with a 2.0L NA engine. It is still fun to drive and comfortable and exciting when I want it to be. And you know what? I have never raced anybody in it! Know what else? It has never been in the shop for a repair! It has only 107k miles on it though! I am now considering the Mazda6 with the 2.5L NA engine and a 6sp manual. I am not sure that I don't want to buy a new Mazda3 and I am also unsure about all the new cars with the turbo motors. I am concerned about reliabilty and maintenance costs because I plan on keeping it for at least ten years.

    • @christopherwalker8240
      @christopherwalker8240 6 років тому +1

      Jobula powerful engine is not about ego, its about FUN! It's fun to accelerate quickly and feel yourself getting pushed against the seat. Yes, corners are fun but if the car is slow then that is just no fun. I mean, take the old Buick Grand National. It did not handle. BUT it was a rocket from 0-60 and that made up for it. But what about the mazda 6 with the SIX cylinder engine?! Is that slow as well??

  • @KPopsicleSNSD

    The Mazda 6 is the only car of its category that actually make some turn my head when I see one. It just looks good. I'm not in the market for a new car, but if I was, this would be a top choice. I think mazda makes incredible designs, at least compared to Toyota or Honda cars that look boring or even kind of ugly (civic) to me.

      Europe --> wagon.... check..... turbo (diesel) ... check .... awd (option) ..... check
      Ok the turbo diesel is only 175HP (for you 65mph max people ;-) ) But the thing is smooth and has more than enough torque to pull the asphalt from the ground and you'll probably have to refuel every 600 miles (yes, diesels are more fuel efficient)
      And yes, I have been looking at almost any review which tend to be positive for every car, meaning biased in any way. Reading the owners opinions after a year or 2 years of owning it gives a much better knowledge of how happy owners are. To be honest they score high, even with a couple of faults in the beginning but all sorted out by a company that seems to care which also matters a lot to me. Still might buy it (shall I go for the awd, wagon and turbo one?)

      Hi ***** , I don't have a Mazda so I can't speak to reliability. I can tell you that my mother's 2016 CX-5 is on its second transmission (1st was defective), but overall appears to be made well. Depending on requirements and a 28K budget it's hard to beat a new WRX. That's what I went with and after 1 year and 26K it's been 100% solid.

      Floyd Watt I drive a 2012 skyactiv 3 and have never once had a mechanical issue outside of electrical issue with the interior overhead lights (which still don't work). Other than that the only things I've had to do to were the regular maintenance stuff such as a new battery (which the factory battery lasted until 76k miles), having spark plugs replaced at 73k miles, having brake fluid replaced at 61.5k miles, and having the front brake pads replaced at 72k miles. The car has been great and a joy to drive over the last 3 and a half years

      ***** They did 100% with a loaner until it was done. Hybrids are good for city stop/go, but less for highway. Open road the batteries and electric motors are mostly dead weight and something like a Skyactiv 3 with a small 4-banger should return 40 mpg+ without the extra electric.

      Dependent on vehicle and personal taste.. most just drive from point A to point B, typical economy car, personally i love my truck at 390hp 410 lb ft of torque, zooms past people really well, sound of the V8 puts me in a much better mood, that goes with hill driving as well, its a chore for me to have a slower less horse power car, with the engine sounding like a lawn mower, V6 and up are typically a good note, off road worthy is another necessity

From what I've read, Mazda's head of production said in a press conference that the earliest we could see another mazdaspeed model here in the US would be in 2020 for the 2021 model year (and that's IF they even decide to continue the mazdaspeed legacy)

    Have this exact same car/year model now. Got it at 17k miles three years ago. Zero problems so far and now I'm at a 103k miles. (A lot of Uber, lot of interstate miles, and a nice daily commute to work) I'd say aside from a Lexus ES 300, this is probably the most reliable car out there. Take care of it and these cars just keep going and going. Not fast but excellent on curves and handling. May wind up getting a new one with the turbo.

    I've loved this car since it's intro, and just picked up a very nice used 2014 Touring model. Beautiful inside and out, and as everyone knows, rather sporty and great to drive in the twisties. 184 bhp, not winning all the drag races, but enough to have a little fun. I would guess most people shopping in this category are more concerned with a cushy ride, and a dang ol' v6, 'cause power makes more betterness and 4 cylinders is just worhtless! But some of us know they're missing the point. I can't afford a 5 series or E class, so the 6er is the best of the rest in m eyes. I also agree with you Roman, people just aren't as aware of Mazda as the other brands, their loss!

Most had never seen it and all loved the look of it. Low, lean and wide, and it will move when pressed. I intend to keep this car for a while. All I can say is look at this car if you are considering this segment of the market, you will be impressed.

    When my wife and I were in the market, the Mazda 6 was near the top of our list. I agree that the handling was the best in the class and it felt the lightest and most agile. We also loved the styling. For us, the lack of a V6 and the slightly slower acceleration did not bother us much.
    However the deal breaker was usable space. Rear headroom and leg room is well behind the others in the class. Comfort in the back was unacceptable. It feels like being in a coffin.
    But this is a drivers car. If it was just my wife and I, this is the car we would have bought. We are a family of 4 and we wanted our kids to be comfy and be able to stretch out. We ended up getting a Honda Accord V6 Touring and we loved it.

    The largest reason to me is the average consumer isn't informed. They go with the brand they are familiar with, much like they only buy Samsung tv's, or GE appliances....etc because that's what they are used to and that's what people around them suggest. Also, most drivers don't care about a car being driver-geared, they like a mute experience that makes driving calm and easy (think of all the complains the Ford Focus and Fiesta have for the dual clutch transmission not being smooth). Nothing wrong with all of that, but so many people must be very boring and lack personality. But I'm a car guy, so I see the world entirely differently than someone like that and they probably manage their finances really well lol.

    Honestly... I think the reason why they don't sell more mazda6's is because of the dealer networks and lack of advertising. I don't think it has anything at all to do with the i4 under the hood. My reasoning: look at the sales numbers for the competitors, all of the other competitors have majority of their sales come from the 4 cylinder engine options. Camry sells twice the amount of 4 cylinders than they do the V6 versions, same with the Altima, and ALMOST the same for the Accord. The Accord sells a little less than twice the amount of four cylinders as they do six cylinders.

    Reasons why I don't think it sells well:
    1) Maintenance cost is very high
    2) One of the loudest interiors in the class. They remove a lot of sound deadening material in order to make the car light weight.
    3) Terrible Dunlop tires that come with it from the factory. They are lousy in snow and the fact that the car is very light doesn't help much with traction in snow. (I live in the Northeast so this is important to many)
    4) Narrow front seats that are only comfortable for more slim people. Not designed for the average American.
    5) Cheap paint that chips easily. This is very sad given the fact that you pay extra for the premium colors.
    6) Terrible visibility out the back and sides, the B pillar is a huge blind spot! (The blind spot monitor helps but the system tends to be over reactive). A sporty car like this should inspire confidence, having a car with poor visibility takes away driver confidence.
    They already stated in the video,
    7) No V6 option.
    8) Small dealer network and limited rebate availability.
    Now I don't personally own the car but was very interested in purchasing one. One of my good friends (who is a car enthusiast) and who owns a 2016 Mazda 6GT quickly talked me out of getting one for some of those main reasons. It's all just a hype that car reviewers have for this car in the class because it drives sporty and comes with a manual transmission. They clearly don't take in account what the majority of consumers want in a midsize sedan, which sadly the Mazda does not 100% deliver. I hope they address some of these cons in their future redesign because they do create beautiful cars.

      Have 3 Mazdas in the family from different generations. The only thing I agree is they are not the best in terms of interior NVH. They have already acknowledged this as a major Achilles heel for the brand and have found a permanent fix for it and has committed to rolling out starting with the CX9 and new cx5. The maintenance cost is on par with the rest and the parts last far far longer for some reason. They are moving upmarket as a brand because they cannot compete with the big guys. The future of this brand is indeed exciting if the cx9 and new cx5 is anything to go by.

    • @seanressies
      @seanressies 7 років тому +4

      I never said the car was high maintenance, just said that the dealership maintenance costs (at least here in the Boston area) are expensive compared to something like a Accord or Camry. I understand that these costs will be much less if you do it yourself, but for the average midsize sedan owner the maintenance will be done at the dealership. For example, one dealership I looked up charged $1,162.85 for the 75k service! That's fine if it's like a Audi or BMW but for a Mazda that's ridiculous...
      I do agree if the CX-9 and future CX-5 are hints at what's to come, then a lot of these issues will probably be fixed in the next generation Mazda6. I may even look into the CX-5 since it has AWD and may be available with a fuel efficient diesel engine. For someone like me that drives 25k miles a year (75% highway) then the fuel savings alone would at least make up for the maintenance costs.

    • @97I30T
      @97I30T 7 років тому +13

      Mike Vita It's not because of it not having a v6. 80-90% of buyers in this segment don't care about power. The biggest problem with this car is that most buyers in this segment don't care or know anything about Mazda. They'd rather buy something they're familiar with like a Toyota or Honda. Mazdas have never been hot sellers in the US.

    I have the 2015 Mazda GS (mid trim). Picked it up in 2014 has about 82 thousand km. It's a fun car to drive! My family has been Toyota buyers for decades but we took a chance on the Mazda. There are neat little features that Mazda has that other regular class vehicles do not possess.
    1. Auto lock when you walk away. I've grown accustomed to it and it really helps when you forget to lock your car
    2. Blind spot monitoring has sound. Unlike the other makers, Mazda has a blind spot monitoring that chimes. It helps a whole lot when you are driving. 3.the blind spot has 1.5 car lengths in recognition. People may say that it is too much but it is not. The amount of times that blind spot monitoring picked up a speeding car that came out of nowhere saved my life.
    4. The seats are 10way on the mid trim. Highest trim in other vehicles only have 8 way. 5.nothing can beat the driving dynamics of this vehicle in its price range. Handles amazing. Though there are good things about the vehicle there are also bad things. Paint is thin, scratches easily.

    It's not just about the increased horsepower of a V6, it's more about the quiet and smooth power delivery of such. The V6's from Toyota and Honda don't groan under acceleration and you don't need to give it huge throttle applications just to merge with traffic (lots of metered on-ramp lights near me mean you literally need to do 0-75 on a 10% very short distance ramp). The experience of the V6 makes the car feel more expensive than it really is.

      Parker Goslin I used to have one but got rid of it after getting a standard 6 with a V6 and 5spd manual. While obviously not as quick it proved to be a better overall driver's car -- lighter, less ponderous, more responsive to steering and braking inputs, etc. -- just more nimble. Ended up trading the Speed6 for a Lancer Ralliart because it was better for Chicago conditions -- easier to park, better low-end response for scooting into small gaps in traffic, much better AWD system for snow-belt driving, and a DCT that relieves me of having to step on a clutch pedal 50 times per mile, the novelty of which wore off long ago.

    Why doesn't it sell? It is too foreign for most American buyers and the question of servicing, resale values & long term reliability vs. Toyota & Honda.
    As for the "it lacks power" argument, 90% of Camrys & Accords are sold with a 4cyl engine. V6 make up a very small number of sales. A hybrid powertrain which is becoming ever increasingly common in midsize sedans would be nice, but Mazda is a relatively small firm with a small R&D budget.

    • @oldtwins
      @oldtwins 7 років тому +3

      Mazda also cannot afford to lose money on low margins with a V6. Fact is, Honda and Toyota make very little money on their V6 Accords and Camrys compared to the I4s, as does the dealer. Hence, you only find a couple on the lots, with salesmen hounding you to buy the I4 version and walking away from you in disgust when you tell them you want to special order one. The V6 versions are loss leaders frankly.

Best looks, most fun to drive, lowest price, best fuel economy...it was a no brainer for me, and also my wife. Well I would say that it is likely the importer and not Mazda itself. The weird stuff I've seen here in Europe even with EU designed and made cars is just crazy. An example is a electrical heated front window to de-ice which we can't from VW when 20miles further in Holland it can be ordered without an issue. Even warranty for VW we can only get 2 years while 60 miles further in Germany you pay a fixed price for 4 years. It all depends on the importer it seems.
      I've driven the touring turbo diesel 6 and it had some serious pulling power. Seems they are not cheating on the exhaust pollution from what I've heard. Very low compression diesel and the petrol seems to be extremely high compression. It was the most refined diesel 4 cylinder I've driven and I would have bought one with the blink of an eye if not for my last paragraph.
      I've test driven the 2 liter petrol touring last Monday and it was ok, 163hp is enough to do double your speedlimits. Ok I missed the torque of my 105hp, kid you not, 1.9TDI but I guess for regular use it is more than fast enough. The gearbox was a joy so I think when you occasionally can get the wife and kids out of the car you can get a nice high rev'ing engine that is still more than fast and capable enough.
      Unfortunately here in Europe they are now punishing people who buy diesels by doubling the road tax and making cities low emission with certain Euro norms. For example a 2004 Golf diesel euro 3 will be not allowed into the city I live in starting next week. A 1994 Jaguar 4.8L v8 petrol will still be allowed.
      That is also the reason why you see 1l 3 cylinder turbo engines with 115hp etc developed just because they have to because of the getting stricter EU norms. Good for leasing cars and making politicians happy that they made more ecological cars but not for the buyer that wants to buy a car that lasts. And yes look at the process of making a new car it pollutes more than keeping a good car for 15 years that pollutes a bit..
      Cars , taxes and fuel prices , you guys should come to Europe and you'll be happy to live in the US.

Realistically how much power and speed does one need in a daily drive on city streets? It looks better than the accord and camry. I am liking this Mazda and the VW Passat. But as an Audi A4 owner I know the VW will be in the shop more. The only thing about the Mazda I didn’t like were the brakes. JDMSteven agree. I had a 6 now have a sp25 Mazda 3 and it's one of the best small hatches to drive and lean on. funny how in the USA the dealer networks gets a bad wrap where as here in Oz it's one of if not the best.

    Hands down the most beautiful car in the segment. After driving this car for the last 3 years, I can say that it's great. Aside from the looks, the other real positive is the ride. It's a firm ride, but NOTHING at all what I expected when I first drove it. It's actually the perfect balance between performance and comfort. The initial stroke of the suspension is actually comfortable and perfectly tuned. It's the part that soaks up the ripples, asphalt changes, manhole covers, etc. It's actually plush, and surprisingly comfortable. But the rest of the suspension is firm to allow composure and stability when pushed for performance. I find it to be the perfect balance, and it's definitely not the sloppy/floaty suspension that you sometimes find in this segment. Aside from the looks and ride, everything else is great, too. Engine, transmisson, brakes, AC, noise, and comfort. Even the doors have a perfectly tuned clunk/thud when closed, even slammed. Zero complaints from me.

      That's what the car is rated for too (7.4 - 7.5).... I mean my gosh my 9 year old 6 is around 7.8. You can't tell me it takes 8.5 seconds to get this car 0-60. Stop driving it like a grandma.
      These cars were meant to be revved. In my '08 6 I can drive around doing 60 MPH in 2nd gear, and I've still got room before I get to the redline. That's how it's supposed to be driven. Even with an automatic, switch it over into manual mode, and take control of your ride!

    Honestly, when I was in the market 2 years ago, I was looking at the Mazda 6, the Altima, and the Accord. Before driving any, I favored the Mazda 6. On driving the Mazda I felt like I had to be too heavy on the throttle to get it moving. Feel or reality, that was my perception. Also I felt like the Mazda wasn't well planted, felt like it had a high center of balance. Everything else I liked on the Mazda. In the end I went with a 4 cylinder Accord.

    Currently Mazda has a great deal on the touring. You should get the sunroof/bose package for $1325 and now the touring premium package for $1425. The latter includes LED daytime running lights; LED headlights with auto leveling; Adaptive front-lighting system; Auto-dimming interior mirror; Homelink; Auto-dimming driver's side exterior mirror; Heated side mirrors; Leather trimmed seats; 8-way power driver's seat with power lumbar support. Show me someone offering so much equipment for this money. Now there's a $2000 rebate available as well.

      They are a small volume seller, they cannot diversify so much as their competitors as it would not be financially viable. Thats one reason the Mazdaspeed 3 only sold in i spec, MT hatchback.

      @TomesEsq 7 років тому +3

      Armesis P That's not a legitimate excuse. Mazda has lost their way. They gave up "zoom zoom" and took up tree-hugging eco garbage. Nobody wants a "sports sedan" that only offers a shitty and slow NA 4-cylindar as its only option. I honestly hope they really get fucked in their sales so they are forced to make a change.

    I own this car! My car is white, solid black interior, tinted windows---2017 Mazda 6 Grand Touring. It is awesome! The only reason I can think of as to why it doesn't sell more is there is not as much advertising as with comparable sedans. This gorgeous, 2017 Mazda 6 comes standard with your speed along with speed limit signs from the road reflected right inside the windshield! I read up on this car before purchasing, and found out it is the safest car on the road! It's super fun to drive, and has a great pick up for a 4 cylinder. When I went on my test drive, I was impressed with the pickup, however it was a little under my Hyundai Genesis Coup with a 6 cylinder that I had to lay to rest in a junk yard due to flooding in my area. After expressing my concern about settling for a 4 cylinder from a 6 cylinder, even though this car with Skyring Technology" was comparable, my salesman surprises me and says, "well, this car is equipped with a sports mode"! so he reaches down and flips on the sport mode, and I took off even faster and much smoother than my old Hyundai Genesis! At that moment I was SOLD! Still driving this as of today, but planning on moving up to the Mazda 6 Coup when it comes out (fingers crossed) in September of 2017. Mazda makes some very nice cars.

Got another sports car to get in trouble. It's not the purpose of this car.. I believe in mazda and its philosophy. Continue on this trajectory and they will be on par with Toyota and honda in a few years.

    I think a big part of the problem, at least up here in the Great White North, is that you can get a fully loaded Mazda 3 with the same engine for significantly less money. I went from a 6-cylinder Mazda 6 to the high end Mazda 3 because it was at least as much fun to drive as the 6 and a lot cheaper. Better gas mileage as well.

      Sandy Ban it depends on what model you are talking about. the ford partial ownership era should be relatively cheap since parts were shared between the two. clutches for certain performance models are relatively expensive. clutches for Mazdaspeed6s are around 400 bucks.

    I've had 3 Mazda cars in my life, and none of them have ever disappointed me in all aspects. I currently have a 2017 Mazda CX-3, a gorgeous looking CUV that is easily the best in its class. Mazda cars look luxurious, feel luxurious and drive like a luxurious car. Mazda should be placed among luxury cars because it is THAT great. Don't just take my word for it, test drive one for yourself. Among the Japanese giants, I truly believe Mazda is the best.

    I've got a 2011 Mazda 6 V6, in blue, and I love it! It's got a very nice sound at higher rpms, and it's very quick-you'll surprise a lot of people when you pass them or get into a highway drag (no it's not gonna beat a v8 muscle car or a Porsche, but it does hold its own pretty damn good). I can attest that it gets to 60 right at 6 seconds, but the best part is the 60-100...there's no lull or reduction in power all the way across the spectrum, a very even acceleration. It'll go 132mph, speed limited by an electronic governor. I've had it to that speed on more than one occasion, and it'll sit at about 4,500 rpms at that speed so if the limiter was removed then it potentially could hit 150mph. The size of the car is larger than a mid-size sedan but under a full-size. I especially love the flared front fenders which share the design characteristic of the last RX-8 model. My mom used to have an '04 Mazda 6 V6 (also in blue!) and it handled very well as does this one. Downsides for the car are: significant understeer especially when cornering, road/wind noise is atrocious, gas mileage...SUVs get better than mine (I have a lead foot though but average about 21mpg), lots of rattling plastic parts in the interior-had to stuff a paper towel wad near the back window underneath the roof panel to stop that noise there. It's a great car, but there's room for improvement. I'd like to see: better noise insulation, a turbo on the 3.7L V6, all wheel drive, & better build quality involving the cheap plastics and the rattling. My moms owned 4 Mazdas that I grew up with and I've owned 3 so I don't think I'll be changing brands anytime soon, but I sure as hell am not going back to a 4-banger, and before anyone says that the 4 cyl with a turbo is equivalent, consider that that's compared to a naturally aspirated V6, a turbo 4 cyl vs a turbo V6 is no comparison-the V6 will smoke the 4.
