    Excellent reviews, man! No bs, no salivating over moonroofs, but one of those rare reviews where a guy who know how to drive a car gives you good and valid point that help with the car purchasing decisions.

    This review sold me on this. Purchased last week and I'm loving it. Your production is top notch, and the review style you have is sorely needed and much appreciated. I honestly feel as if you did me a service, and even if my car ends up being a piece of crap in the future, I would still feel that way. Thank you, keep on doing what you're doing, and if you ever need any audio production work, let me know!

    I don't know how you've managed to do it, but this one is even better than what you've done before! Myself I've not been a fan of Mazdas, but after watching this video, I plan on booking a test drive of the CX-5 to see what I've been missing.... you've done a far better job of selling this car than any salesman, any online review and any article I've ever seen on it. Congratulations on another excellent production!

      I had a ‘92 Mazda Navajo (2 Door Ford Explorer), decent vehicle. I got rear ended on the Belt Parkway, in Brooklyn, by some DB that just repo’d a car, his car was destroyed and steaming, as he backed off and left the scene, my Navajo, NOTHING, not even a scratch. Solid rear bumper was his disaster.

    That was a killer review of a killer car. Very well done. Thank you. Great production quality with a perfect focal width for the interior shots. The audio was absolutely perfect for listening to the motor and its shift points. I couldn't hear the lane departure thumps but didn't really care either. The concept is cool enough. I just got the 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring FWD last week, and one thing I might consider pointing out is the overall comfort of the seats themselves. Volvo has the best and most comfortable seats out there, we own a brand new 2016 Volvo XC60 and it sure is an incredibly comfortable seat, but I would confidently say this CX-5 is just as comfortable as the Volvo, but the Mazda has a more durable leather surface better suited for families with cleats and bookbags and toys. Again, an awesome production and a great review for a great car. Zoom zoom.

    Wow!! Really enjoyed this video - so unique and different than so many others out here on You Tube. An intelligent auto man. Appreciated the technical analysis. I chose this Mazda over the Subaru Forester - they were my 2 favorite small crossovers....but this one felt sportier and more upscale. Driving matters as Mazda says.

    I just bought a CX-5, in red. I didn't opt for AWD because I live in a place where it barely rains or snows. That way I saved money on the purchase and will on gas too, supposedly a 2-3 MPG difference.
    So far I love it because it really doesn't drive like an SUV at all. It feels more like driving a midsize car. The infotainment system is very intuitive and easy to use, just as stated in the video. I haven't put any donkeys in the back yet, but I did actually capture an internet troll and put him in the back. Even he loved it!
    Thank you for your great videos Mr. Goose. Your video helped me narrow down what I wanted to test drive, and after that my mind was made up. Keep up the good work and congrats on 2 years making videos.

    We recently bought one for my wife. Very happy with it so far. Only negative that I have noticed is it has bad blind spots, that make lane changes a bit nervous for me. The side mirrors are an odd shape, which seems to be part of the problem. I'm getting used to it, but...
    Besides that it's great. Love the handling. Seats are very comfortable. Zoom, zoom, zoom!

  • @Nakameguro97

    Thanks for explaining the AWD system! I've had the 2.2 AWD Diesel version of this car for over a year and had no idea how the AWD worked - like the review mentioned, I've just never felt any loss of traction under any condition, including heavy rain with deep puddles at highway speeds. Good low-end torque from the Diesel, flat cornering (for an SUV), and great AWD all inspire confident driving (and loads of fun doing it). BTW, the entire review is spot-on.
    Any plans on reviewing the 2016 Civic Touring (or any of the 1.5T models)?

  • @tp7278
    @tp7278 8 років тому +4

    One reason for the plastic trimmed bumpers...a huge portion of these crossovers are used in the city, the painted bumpers typically get destroyed. That's why many manufactures use black plastic molding on the lower part of the bumpers to hide scuffs better and to keep it coherent, they carry the black plastic trim around the entire car. I remember seeing a video with some marketing suit discussing it

    I’m in the marker for a used 2016-17 cx-5. This video is great. I really like how you went under the hood/car. I tend to do a lot of maintenance by myself so seeing how the engine bay is fairly open and the drain plugs, etc are easily accessible is really helpful.

    • @Kray86
      @Kray86 4 роки тому +2

      I own a 2012 release model cx-5 (2.0 individual) and yes it's very easy to maintain almost everything is easy to get too. Only hiccup i had so far was replacing the serpentine belt. That's because you have to remove the wheel and a cover to get to it but still takes about 30min to do the job nothing major. Mine has 177000 km on the clock with absolutely no problems.
      Thinking of trading in on a 2016-17 AWD 2.2 diesel because of the high mileage.
      Don't like the interior of the newer model tho.

    We've had our 2016 for 6 years now and ownership has been absolutely flawless. The lower bolsters are wrinkled in the seats, but nothing has gone wrong on this car. Normally when the term is up we're ready for a new car but not this time. It's so good I sold my 21 Mazda3 Turbo hatchback and ordered a Miata Club manual. #perfectgarage.

    I’ve had the 2016.5 GT for a bit over a year now and I absolutely love it. I almost bought a focus RS the other day, but on the drive there decided this is just fun enough to continue to be an adult instead. It is not fast, but definitely handles and rides really well. The styling is awesome too...especially on the 2016. Would recommend to anyone who needs to adult, but also retain some driving enthusiasm

      +savagegeese I'm really curious about the CX-9's performance...the engine seems underpowered for such a large SUV (something like 225 HP and 310 torques, as Top Gear would say). That engine in the CX-5/Mazda6 would be HEAVEN...

    i'm glad Scott touched on the un-painted body panels on suvs, i been bitching about that dumb trend ever since it became the norm the facts is painted body panels will always look better than un-painted parts period.

    • @MarysMaamCave
      @MarysMaamCave 8 років тому

      +Dee T Agreed, and it is easier to buff out minor scratches from painted surfaces. Some assalope vandalized my car by deliberately scratching up the plastic panel divider on the side window and I have been unable to completely remove the damage. It wasn't deep and would have buffed right out of the paint surfaces.

    • @deet4895

    • @deet4895
      @deet4895 8 років тому

      +Luis Coqui trust me it's not about saving money, it's about following a trend. it's like LED daytime running lights, i think it's safe to say Audi started that trend with the first generation Audi R8 and slowly other manufacturers started to follow.

    • @letsgonow5641
      @letsgonow5641 8 років тому

      Dee T Probably right another thing the paint tended to chip off these plastic parts as well. If the car is black it blends in. We have a white Cx5 and actually the contrasting colors dont look to bad. Ive think thats because i got use to seen this style by now my eyes have adjusted.

    I just purchased a 2016 CX5 Grand Touring, with only 7K miles, from a dealer, so far, very happy, still had the “brand new” car smell. I also have the same year Jeep Wrangler Sahara, what a different driving experience. Fuel Econ is great (when conservative, I get 6.5L/100km, 8-8.5 when aggressive).
    Has a fantastic auto transmission so no CVT drone
    Has a manual mode that I enjoy.
    Plus the 2016.5 Middle trim gets the 2.5L, sunroof, blind spot, backup cam, rims, navigation. Great package for the price for my mom

    i ussually like your reviews but i feel this one was biased, you tried to sugar coat the negatives of a mazda but you failed. feeling all the road noise, wheel noise and engine noise have never been things considered to be intentionally designed to give you a "visceral feeling" . it is just called being cheap. mazda as ussual did not put any insulation which is a problem they've always had. i owned a 15 year old mazda and i sold it as i was so sick and tired of the road and wind noise on long commutes, came to check out the review of new ones turns out the problem still persists

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 років тому +11

      +OhPoWneDiel I have to agree with you in some ways. Went a bit soft on the CX-5. The road noise is not out of line compared the competitors. The CX-3 however is absurd in terms of road noise which we pointed out bluntly. Good points.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 4 роки тому +3

      Nope. While I agree about insulation, more engine noise is usually due to a less restrictive exhaust to eek out a few HP, road noise tends to come from a stiffer suspension and/or tires that improve the performance. If you want to feel like you're floating down the road on a couch, certainly a Mazda is not right for you, but they do intentionally choose the sportier market segment. It does not cost any more to make softer struts or another baffle in a muffler. Well okay maybe $1 for the baffle lol.
      Hint: You'll find the same thing in sports cars. It's just that the CX-5 can't truly be sporty when set up for fuel economy. To be fair, not everyone wants a sports car for the same reasons.

    So I watched this video twice to try to figure out which compact SUV to buy for my daughter who is moving to California shortly. Looked at a 2017 Lexus NX, thinking they would discount depreciation aggressively (they didn't). Next we looked at the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5. The reviewers basically call the Honda the leader--best mileage, biggest rear compartment, most comfortable drivers seat. Not the sportiest drive but good. She liked the lane keeping assist (works down to a fairly low speed). Drove the Mazda which she liked right away--not as voluminous (a good thing). Very nice cabin. Drove nicely with comfortable seats. She's leaning towards the Mazda (I favor the Honda but the cars not for me).

    I think the Grand Touring should also have the Remote Start feature. The sport mode switch reminds me of the automatic window control in a 1988 Cadillac Seville, strange choice of switch they used, a bit hard to find when your driving.

    At the 11 minute mark when they say the CX5 wasn't really about performance. Well this engine and transmission combo has ten times better throttle response and shift response then my old Outback. In fact I've yet to be in a situation where this engine or trans has failed to respond to my needs. Granted its not a rocket, but it accelerates with enough authority when needed to keep me happy.

    Bought a CX- 5 last year and love it. The AWD is great and really shines in snow even with the OEM tires. On the open road look for 28 mph fully loaded. You should have mentioned the excellent headlights but the viewers got a glimpse of them in the video. For your weekend warriors I can get 18 bags of mulch in the back with the seats down. Coming from a Accord 6-6 coupe ( which I still have ) I still feel I have some sportiness to enjoy with the CX- 5.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 років тому

      +Thomas Niner Good to get actual owner feedback, the tires are really good in wet and snow too compared to other cars. With a 300 wear rating will likely tear up faster but they work. Headlights are pretty good. Left some things out just for time reasons but glad you mentioned it.

    I wonder how it performs compared to Subaru Forester XT? Can You say something about it? You said You are impressed by the AWD system, suspenssion and You would want to have a little more horse power. It sounds like Forester, except it is powered by 2.0 l turbocharged boxer engine instead of 2.5 l straight engine. Subaru cars also have a pernament four wheel drive.

    Great review. Subbed for more. I was in the market for a sporty SUV. Came down to this or the 2015+ Edge Sport w the 2.7 v6 w/ twin turbo. Ended up with the CX5. Edge was around 7k more but the torque was amazing and had a few extras the CX5 didn't have. CX5 is the best fuel efficient, decent sized, sporty suv. Thanks a million!

    I love the Savagegeese reviews and subscribe, but I just came across this video. My wife has a 2015 CX-5 GT just like this one but with the older infotainment system. We've put over 84,000 trouble free miles on it and she likes it. I drive a 2019 CX-5 Signature with the Turbo 2.5 engine (33,000 trouble free miles) and it's great car also and love the additional power. My only compliant about my car is that the brown leather is too dark and I can't get directly to the spark plugs to change them like my wife's 2.5 non turbo model. Plus he's right about the liking the non power lift gate on the 2016 model.
    Mazda makes a great vehicle for the money and deserves higher sales.

      i agree. but cost maintenance wise, esp in long term 4-5 years and up, RAV4 seem easier and cheaper to maintain with its proven 'toyota-reliability' if not for its simplicity philosophy. I'm curious to know if the difference in maintenance expense is significant. paging @savagegeese and other petrol heads

    Great review. I strongly considered buying this last year as a family hauler, but the lack of power was too big an issue to overcome. Would have been happy to pay a significant premium for a more powerful engine, even if the fuel economy were worse. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be many (any?) non-luxury crossovers that combine the handling characteristics of the CX-5 with decent power and a good automatic transmission.

    • @savagegeese

      +Isaac MacDonald Yes I agree, the Tucson 1.6T is ok it would be ideal if they gave it 2.0T. But only sportage has that and interior is bad.
      Mazda knows they are behind in the performance game, I hope they will have a 2.0T in the next gen if they can't fit 2.5T.

    7yrs ago the dealer let us take one of these home for the weekend after test driving the Mazda3 as well, but the seat felt like it was made for a fat person, when I took it back I asked drive the 3 again and it was like there we go, this feels right, where do we sign? 7yrs later, were waiting for the ship from Japan with our new CX5 Carbon turbo in Zircon sand.

    man, what an original you are! love the "shoppe" segment so i just has to subscribe to your channel. just so you know you can get a fully loaded version with a six speed manual shifter in Europe, now that's some zoom,zoom! my question is why is Mazda so very late in rolling out the new version when its competitors have been selling newly redesigned models since September of 2016?
