Yes. You must listen to these tracks more than once to really appreciate them. I've listened to Yes's Tales albums for many years and its always a pleasure.
I personally love this version due the the percussion overload, studio version would have been a better choice to highlight the richness/musicianship of this great track
@jonsey156 I love Yes as a live band - seen them live many times - just think the studio versions serve better as introductions to someone who is fairly new to the band.
YES. Best...band...ever. Studio rendition is a better experience for me. Isn't it nice how that Jon's voice entering the song is like the sun coming up over a mountain. 😇😇😇
I trully agree about listening and listening and listening and .... I bought the album "Tales from Topograghic Oceans being 15 years old and listened and listened and... so so many times on the headphone. Every track is brilliant, .... if you give it a listening not once, but everal times
Just "Close your eyes and listen." As most of us Yes fans well know, Yes music requires the listener to immerse themselves, within the privacy of one's own head, and with repeated listenings; therefore to allow the music to carry you on a journey within one's own soul. With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)
I try to listen to the entire album all at once. The four songs blend perfectly making an absolute masterpiece! You jumped right into the fourth movement, skipping the first three. This piece is appreciated more having first heard the others.
What you need to do is get a comfy chair and a start on side one get up flip the disc to side 2 etc and then you are ready for side 4. You basically need to think this is easier to listen to than side 3. Tales of Topographic Oceans is something to behold in more ways than one. The artwork is the best.
Was very excited to watch this until you said it was a live version. Please, please, PLEASE!, listen to the studio version of a song first. Love your reactions though!
Because there are so many layers to this music it should be extremely emphasized that it's the studio versions that should be listened to! You get the nuances and the clarity of the instrumentation, and the subtle melodies are more apparent. And live music is sometimes rushed thru - especially with longer tracks. In live settings these complex pieces tend to sound more chaotic than they really are. And Anderson tends to shout instead of sing to be heard over the amplified instruments. The songs from Tales From Topographic Oceans are hard to really get on the first listen to begin with and it just gets harder with live recordings. Also PLEASE, WITH YES, STICK TO THE STUDIO RECORDINGS.
YES, the greatest show on earth. The novel War and Peace is the influence for Gates of Delirium. So that uncomfortable is part of the prelude to the war. Then, the actual war, and then the peace in the aftermath. The cycle of life 👑🎶🙏🎶👑
That's the thing with Yes, they carry you inside of yourself and they make you travel from chaos to beauty. And chaos becomes beauty when you listen and re-listen to these songs. The studio version would have been better for a first listen but the live version makes you hear how amazing this band was: all this complexity played and sung by 5 musicians.
The mix from this live show is not as crisp as the studio version. It may be me not remembering too well, but initially the tempo is different from the original. It seems though, that the band knits together as the song develops and the mix is more balanced.
WOW❤Major undertaking. YOU HAVE TO HEAR IT TWICE at least. Its very well constructed, arranged and paced but 70s YES will ALWAYS surprise, awe inspire and shock, but I totally enjoy watching new listeners bemusement with YES' extroadinary complexities. RITUAL is part 4 of a concept album. It reflects on the end of a long life's journey into the soul to a place of gratitude expressed in ritualistic ceremony (drum circle) and once we've honored the divine then we arrive WHOLE and AWAKENED as ONE. 😅LOL the last half will freak you out! HAHA! BE PREPARED!

I have really enjoyed your reactions. I will have to check, but if you haven't done Genesis. I love seeing friends light up when I share my favorite music. But whether you react or not, for your personal enjoyment, I recommend it. Plus many others.
Hi friends, from Venezuela, my name is Rino Grassa, I like your reactions, my english its very bad,,,sorry, I recommend to listen in the album Ocean Topografic, the best song for me, The revealing science of God. Enjoy that Song.
You are right about it being an internal journey which can either be individual or a collective introspection. I think it would have been better to run into Part 2 to catch the whole piece if only because you are in the moment now, next time your mood and perspective may be different especially as Part 2 is quite spiritually demanding.
Gates of delirium on the same album is a much better choice. This is more of a concert jam fitted into the song ritual which makes a little taxing for newbies like yourselves. Love you two ❤, your the sweetest couple! 😅
Cutting a YES composition into several parts when it was not designed for this type of listening is perhaps not the best idea... as would be questionable the listening in slices of a piece of classical music when it was not composed and arranged for this purpose. Also, "Ritual" is by far more sublime in studio version. But, no harm done... it is only my humble opinion. However, for a next listening of a YES composition taken from the album 'Tales from Topographic Oceans' (1973), I strongly suggest the studio version of "The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn)". A masterpiece. You will be enchanted. Thank you.
Released on the heels of he massive success of the "Close to the Edge" album, TfTO was perhaps the most eagerly awaited album, ever. The warehouse orders were massive, as were the recored store deliveries. Contrary to all the glowing opinions of huge fans of this album who were drawn here in the hopes of being able to watch you expresss your ecstacy over this song, most casual fans of Yes, along with keyboardist Rick Wakeman, found it to be a massive bore. I think for a long time it held the record for most albums shipped back to the warehouse when fans didn't warm to it. Wildly innovative? Indeed. Experimental? Certainly? An easy listen? Definitely not. Pleasing? Not to most consumers of popluar music. I have the vinyl studio version. I haven't spun it in about 40 years. It was the proverbial "bridge too far" for Yes.

The studio version is clearer and less chaotic sounding
The studio version is more mellow, but each is awesome.
Got the original album 50 years ago and still finding things to appreciate. Beautiful melodies, especially at the end.
Should have gone with the studio version.

I listened to this in the 70's. I'm hearing it with a little bit fresher and mature ears. Allen White is blowing me away.
Thank you for enhancing the YES mantra. Great channel.
You really need to hear the entire album. Start with 'The Revealing Science of God'. Studio version.🤩
I try to listen to the entire album all at once. The four songs blend perfectly making an absolute masterpiece!

People should be merciful when recommending songs, especially those of great length and complexity.
This is almost impossible to take in on one listen and I'm a Yes pro...😅🗽🗽☕☕🎅🎅
