Hi great informative video, I'm considering building a new pc desk with a in built screen (ipad size) that I want my phone to sync to when I put it on charge on the desk is this doable with this smart mirror concept?
. I have done the basics with the pi and magic mirror. I got the time / weather set. How do you adjust for local news ? After you have the basic, how do you add / personal modules.? I have not been able to find directions or any good how to on youtube to make the changes. May be you could do a video/ a step by step to add modules and adjust the news for your local area. Thanks
Sounds like you've got the basics of configuring a Smart Mirror down. You just need to type in a few lines of code and set your config file to your location. My guide is far from complete, but check out www.twowaymirrors.com/install-magicmirror2-software/ and ua-cam.com/video/vMG27bFMndA/v-deo.html (for retropie). Also check out magicmirror.builders for the latest modules
Hey there! I recommend starting out with a TV or monitor that is not a touchscreen. When you put the mirror in front it will not allow the touch to work through the mirror. To add touch technology to your smart mirror, you need an IR touch or Touch foil.
How do I incorporate a touch screen? Is that the IR remote thingy you talk about? Or do I purchase a touch screen over lay. Or is the touch screen overlay the IR part you mention. When assembled would it be DIELECTRIC GLASS-TOUCH SCREEN/IR - DISPLAY? Could I use a large touch screen monitor then put the dielectric glad in front of it? I'm so close to putting all together in my head, those are the only things left to complete. Thank you so much in advance!
I know, it can be a lot to take in! You'll need a monitor/tv/display, a dielectric mirror (or smart mirror) and IR Touch Overlay to add touch capability to a diy smart mirror project. Then you'll need a frame to hold those three things together. The frame will be the closest layer, then the IR frame, then the glass, then the tv/display will be the last layer furthest away from the front. Check out the article guide I wrote for more details: www.twowaymirrors.com/diy-smart-mirror/
You are totally right! You definitely do not want to start out with a touch screen because the mirror will make it not work anymore. That is why you need a screen with no touch like a computer monitor or TV, then add the touch by using an IR Touch Overlay. Less commonly... people will use a tablet because they are up-cycling it - just note that once it is behind the mirror you cannot interact with it via touch. The terms I used in the video were "IR Touch Overlay" and "Touch Overlay" - both talking about the same thing. You may also need an IR Repeater if you are using a TV (which relocates the eye of the TV) to allow the remote to work through the mirror. This would only be needed if you are framing it right to the screen or are covering the sensor with paint.
Please keep in mind the kind of people who will be interested in making a magic mirror. Unlikely your targeted audience will like your presentation style. There's nothing wrong with it, but its a mismatch for this audience. Also try better cuts and edits to make it smoother.
Hi. What is my best option to display videos, and notifications for a big smart mirror. I was thinking of acrylic but I need one that will look exactly like a normal mirror. Thanks!
I would like to know what monitor & what software was going on behind her during this video. Anyone know? I would love to have a smart mirror that size.
Hello I am very interested in making a smart mirror and using your services that you offer for the frame but my question is what is the IR touch overlay? Can I use any TV and make it touch screen?? I was looking to make a bigger display.
Hey thanks for the video... I'm doing my research to do this but I cant find a great big 23 to 27 inch touch screen ... what brand are you measuring in this video at 1:40 seconds? 🤣 or is that a tv?
Can I use a television instead of a computer monitor? Its an old 40in HD TV i have no real use for at the moment. And is there a wrong mirror to buy??? I went out to Lowes to buy one and the first thing i notice when I get home is it is completely opaque on the back. What do I do?
Yes, TVs work great! Provided they have an HDMI connection you can use a Pi or Windows PC. Standard mirrors won't work, only transparent mirrors (more info is available on twowaymirrors.com)
Come on people, be easy on her. A lot of these comments are so whiney. She's probably new to making videos, and quite honestly acts a lot like most youtubers, just a bit more awkward. At least she was informative and got straight to the point.
Would you also include the installation and operation of the IR touch screen? What were the settings on the raspberry Pi to accommodate the touchscreen?
Great question! We are currently building some new Glass Smart Mirror systems right now :) As soon as I have them in hand to check the settings I definitely will publish it to the website & comment here!
The 2 way acrylic vs 2 way smart glass. What's the difference. Wish you could go alittle more in-depth because the only difference I can tell is the price☹️
Great question! The acrylic is light weight and shatterproof but is easily scratched, while the glass is scratch resistant and flat even in larger sizes.
Does anyone now how to get toch screen on a large mirror ? Or can I use a large mirror then behind it the small IR frame then then the display ? I would like to make a body size mirror but a with a small portion touch screen/display
I would recommend using PCAP foil! With the touch foil, you can use any size screen and mirror that you desire and the touch aspect would only be where you applied the foil. Here's a direct link to our DIY Smart Mirror webpage! www.twowaymirrors.com/diy-smart-mirror/#step-#2-touch-technology-considerations
Does anyone know if using a capacative touch screen panel would work instead of the IR frame ( I don't like to protruding look )? If so, where could I get one?
Aiden, The touch screen would work through the mirror in that case. Most regular touch screens you find online are not capacitive though. Proceed with caution!
Beyond haters and people who lack respect for those who make such contributions at no cost, I want to thank you for the information.
You're welcome & thank you! 😁💗

Can it run iOS on the go in a smaller 11 inch mirror
Yes, Smart Mirrors work great with an iPad! The drawback is you'd be blocking the touch capabilities.
That girl looks animated !!
Thank you!

Hi great informative video, I'm considering building a new pc desk with a in built screen (ipad size) that I want my phone to sync to when I put it on charge on the desk is this doable with this smart mirror concept?
Yes! You can place a frame around the iPad with the smart mirror glass.
Thank you :)
thank you back!
Hola...¡! Al hacer este proyecto no se calienta mucho el monitor o tv que va atras del cristal..?
It doesn't get that hot, LED TVs run pretty cool
Good video, I learned a lot in just 6 minutes.
Awesome, thanks so much!
What is the weather widget on 29sec of video please? Is it for Rapsberry?
Great question! It's just a rainmeter widget in Windows 10
"Complete guide (2020)" - 05/2019
Because it's 2020, duh!
Updating the title doesn't make it up to date. Duh.
Hey glad I found your video, just what I was looking for - subd
Thank you, glad you found us!
Great video. Helped me understand a lot :) Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Hello Christa, My question is should the monitor be a touchscreen ?
@Bus 22 THANK YOU SO MUCH BUSSSSS! Awesome! I just have to figure out how big I want to go! Thanks again!
I missed the promised touchscreen technology.
Here's the promised touchscreen smart mirror: www.twowaymirrors.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/framing-smart-mirror-with-touch-overlay.pdf
Please keep in mind the kind of people who will be interested in making a magic mirror. Unlikely your targeted audience will like your presentation style. There's nothing wrong with it, but its a mismatch for this audience. Also try better cuts and edits to make it smoother.
Thank you for the insight! 😊 That is actually quite helpful. I shall keep that in mind for the next video.
I am wondering if you could build a smart mirror in arduino and if not how do you intergrate alexia or google home to raspberry pi
Yes, you can definitely build an arduino smart mirror
Hi. What is my best option to display videos, and notifications for a big smart mirror. I was thinking of acrylic but I need one that will look exactly like a normal mirror. Thanks!
The Glass Smart Mirror is the best match to a standard mirror and it will look great when displaying full color animations and notifications. 😊
I would like to know what monitor & what software was going on behind her during this video. Anyone know? I would love to have a smart mirror that size.
It's simply Rainmeter in Windows
I really like how passionate she is, i think it shows she really cares the project
Thank you Shujaa. 😊 It's true, I am very passionate and geek out on helping people choose the correct products for their projects. ❤️
Do you know if I could attach a chromecast to a rasberry pie and stream video of it?
If you're using a TV, I recommend having both plugged into different HDMI ports and using the input button on your remote to switch between them.
@@twowaymirrors yeh thank you
She is doing her best okay!
Thank you for the defense! It's a brutal world out there. 😆
you are awesome 💓
Thank you!
Is it raining outside? Oh no wait its in your whole video 😂☔
Yep! It was raining cats and dogs
How can i get the ir touch screen
We recommend getting the IR Touch Overlay on Amazon - Greentouch is great and very inexpensive.
Hello I am very interested in making a smart mirror and using your services that you offer for the frame but my question is what is the IR touch overlay? Can I use any TV and make it touch screen?? I was looking to make a bigger display.
A touch overlay can be found by searching IR multitouch frame. Yes, you can add it to any size.
Hey thanks for the video... I'm doing my research to do this but I cant find a great big 23 to 27 inch touch screen ... what brand are you measuring in this video at 1:40 seconds? 🤣 or is that a tv?
Actually you use a regular TV and then add the touch to it by using an IR Touch Overlay. I hope that helps!! 😀👍
Love it
Thank you
Can I use a television instead of a computer monitor? Its an old 40in HD TV i have no real use for at the moment. And is there a wrong mirror to buy??? I went out to Lowes to buy one and the first thing i notice when I get home is it is completely opaque on the back. What do I do?
Yes, TVs work great! Provided they have an HDMI connection you can use a Pi or Windows PC. Standard mirrors won't work, only transparent mirrors (more info is available on twowaymirrors.com)
Very overacting and poor performance, this actually turns people down!
Thank you for your feedback!
Come on people, be easy on her. A lot of these comments are so whiney. She's probably new to making videos, and quite honestly acts a lot like most youtubers, just a bit more awkward.
At least she was informative and got straight to the point.
Thank you! That was my first video haha. 😆
Where is the best place buy two way glass 12x24 inch
Good videos
We offer the smart mirror glass on our website at www.twowaymirrors.com/smart-mirror/ Hope that helps!
What’s with the jumping around
Gotta sneak in my exercise whenever I can!
This is like a bad high school project and I learned absolutely nothing.
Glad to hear you learned something!

@@twowaymirrors many thanks !!! So happy you replied
Does anyone know if using a capacative touch screen panel would work instead of the IR frame ( I don't like to protruding look )? If so, where could I get one?
Aiden,
The touch screen would work through the mirror in that case. Most regular touch screens you find online are not capacitive though. Proceed with caution!
@@twowaymirrors Where could I get a capacitive touch screen panel?
