I just finished installing mine....so far I’m very happy-no more flipping open in my pocket with the factory fob. This one is somewhat less bulky but still large. Lots of people complained that the key in the video seems to rattle in its compartment but mine sits tight and doesn’t move. I got the ‘soft touch’ option so I have rubber buttons that have a factory feel. Several folks also fussed about the battery being difficult to seat but that part was actually quicker for me than the guy in the video-maybe I got lucky. I want to see if I can make a copy of the key that hangs on a ring like normal keys have done since the beginning of keys, and that would make for handier use to lock or unlock the console, glovebox, or rear seats. The pin didn’t give me any trouble-I pushed it out with a dental pick....hey, it’s what I had that fit in that tiny hole. It was harder to pull the key and the flip housing apart than it was to get the pin out. Only other thing is I could’ve done with some more description (warning) of the transponder’s shape-it is not rectangular (like I expected), and so when it finally did pop out suddenly and not rectangle-shaped, I just about had a heart attack because I thought I broke it. But I didn’t, and all is well and everything works.
Make one with a machined aluminum case, then I'd consider. Maybe machine a slot into the side that lets you mount the key in a channel so you can slide it, rather than a spring loaded button (think of a boxcutter handle)?
You mentioned possibly using an awl to remove the roll pin. I wouldn’t recommend that. The roll pin will try to expand as the point goes into the center making it grip tighter to the outside surface.
This video is not intended to advertise a product but more so give you a more in-depth look of what's involved for the install. The original Jeep key is bulky and the key constantly springs out. It has been discussed a lot in the forums, and as of right now this is one option of solving those issues. Idk why people feel the need to comment or share their opinion on whether or not they like it? It's an instructional video.
Just finished installing mine. Getting that transponder out was a b*tch, had to cut the plastic around it but it worked. Battery also was a little tedious until I got it, but overall love the custom look and buttons are firm.
I really liked the video but having key just laying like that doesn't make any sense to me. When there is a need for the key to be used you have to hold the key by fingers?
According to a video AJT put out, the back of the key can be inserted into the slot towards the top of the fob, allowing for more leverage. I have never tried it myself.
Just put mine together. I really like the smaller form factor but the quality could be a lot better. The seams are prominent on the edges where it comes together. I have the remote start so lock and unlock are on the same button on the top. This has a lousy feel without much feedback. I have taken it apart a few times now to sand the buttons from sticking. I don't think I would wasted my $37 on this if I had seen and felt one prior to ordering.
Doing it right now and it’s a pain in the ass. Took me forever to get the transponder out and you pretty much need clamps to keep it sealed enough to screw the case together. Now got to find something to get the key pin out...
you can, its still the stock key internals, it has an override that you can hold the transponder against the Jeep's internal start button even if the battery is dead it will work
Yes, as long as you don't forget the step that involves moving the little black transponder over to the new case. The transponder is what is responsible for communicating with your Jeep when the batter in the fob dies to let you start your Jeep.
I had this for my JK and though it was neat, it was very cheaply made. It would be so much better if they had rubber buttons and the screws wouldn't strip so easily. With the JL version, they need to do better with the key. That's crap to have to open the back when you need to use it.
I know it doesnt look that nice but believe me I have been using this for several months and it is worlds better compared to the original key fob. Plus you can choose the colors of the shell, the buttons, and the screws which is kind of cool compared to the bland black stock fob.
There are so many aftermarket things out there for the Wranglers but this by far is the worst thing I've ever seen and I've even seen lowering kits. How long does it take to assembly this and what exactly do we gain? And look at how the key is stored... Rob had to slip his nail in twice to open the bloody hatch... good luck to anyone with a locking gas cap every time they go to fill up. The shape of it is also very unfamiliar and doesn't look like it belongs in Jeep. And what's with that sickly color? At least make it billet so there's something for the macho crowd to talk about. There's no price at which this makes sense... not even if they were giving them away for free, let alone at $38.
The AJT is as poorly designed as the Jeep fob. Somehow I was able to get the battery installed when I purchased it. Then the battery needed replacing. The most frustrating experience, and still, after at least 30 attempts to reassemble, FORGET about it. I've watched 4 UA-cam videos on how to assemble the case, they all admit it's a frustrating PITA, and there's no secret trick to doing it. If you have a lot of patience and nothing better to do, this is the product for you. I'm going back to my original Jeep key fob and removing the pop-out, pants ripping, fat and poorly designed original Jeep fob.
I am struggling with mine right now. I think its depends on the position of that M bracket and it's a little different in every key FOB, some easier than others. Mine seems impossible...
Is this fob less bulky than the standard fob? i cannot tell. I don't like how the standard fob tends to release the key in my pocket, tearing holes in my pockets, but neither do i like the idea of having to surgically extract the tiny gripless key from the fob every time i need to lock and unlock the center console.
The real key should be on a slider and pop out the front. I would hate using it the way it’s currently designed, I lock my seats and console frequently
I like it but I don’t love it. It feels very cheaply made like it’s from a cut out. For the price you’d think they would trim the excess plastic and polish it up. I’ll use it only because the stock fob case is ugly AF. An option to have a thinner case minus the key compartment would be nice since I’m not going to use it.
The battery design is horrible. Probably took 50 tries before they put that part in the video. Ridiculously hard to put it together with the battery flopping around
Are they available in different colors, or possibly an additional plastic coat or paintable unit, As the white plastic does kind a look cheesy compared to the 4 pound black and red and silver brick that is my key currently
@@zrhess88 my rams over the years have been swimming with me. And they have like a gasket around the edge. That's why I'm saying that. And this fob looks like a POS. The key just lays in there and you will use what to turn it. Or if you want to lock glovebox or center console.
I can't stand the brick key fob. This fix looks okay... it could be made more slim by not including a compartment for the physical metal key. Just drill a hole in it to put on a normal key chain. I really wish they had just made a normal small sized fob to begin with. The brick doubles the mass of my keys and it's just stupid looking altogether. They should have included a 3 foot heavy steel chain to go with it...
I think the white plastic looks cheap
Umm I don't know I like the Jeep key more

Whats the point? The stock keyfob seems much better.

They really will make anything for Jeeps.
It sounds like you can hear the key rattle too when you switch to this new case. Not a fan...

I think the gray one looks the best

@@dansbird That is not correct. There is no place on the fob to get the torque you need without wrecking the fob.
40 bucks for a case that prevents you from being able to use the the key normally just seems ridiculous to me, should allow for normal use ....

My Sport base would definitely make having one of these ridiculous. No power locks for me.
“In this video we show you how to make your key fob LESS convenient.” Terrible
Looks like a mall crawler key case.
Yes if it was made of leather or carbon fiber or both. This key is made for Star Trek conventions.
Look out we have a real rock crawler over here🙄
this has to be the 3rd one of these i have seen and not one has shown if you can still start your jeep if the battery dies in the fob.

everything looks good exempted for the key, I imagine you will have to use a pair of pliers or how do you use the key to open or start the car?
This is for models with KEYLESS entry and Push to start ignition button.

Good review, but this is a horribly designed key fob. Why would anyone buy this??

Because jeepers modify everything!

Tacticool keyfob.
I wish the fob was smaller. It's huge now compared to the JK.

Ya, I agree, my key pops put all the time too
use a small rubber washer on the button for the fob and it will prevent it from releasing the key.
So does this void your warranty on these parts, because those fob are expensive to replace

This battery won’t go in

Factory key looks way better then the white key
But does it fit in the console keyfob slot? My guess is probably not...
I guess if you have a locking mopar gas cap that this would not be useful
I don’t get it🤷♂️ why?... but good directions anyway.
It's a jeep thing...you wouldn't understand!🤣
Wish the green was sarge green not neon green
Are they available in different colors, or possibly an additional plastic coat or paintable unit, As the white plastic does kind a look cheesy compared to the 4 pound black and red and silver brick that is my key currently
they are available in a wide variety of colors: www.quadratec.com/p/ajt-design/injection-molded-key-fob-cover-jeep-wrangler-jl?
how do i hold the key to lock and unlock center and glove if i now have nothing that the key is mounted to...
Is it waterproof, it doesn't look like there is any kind of rubber gasket, just hard plastic.
its not water proof but neither is the stock key

Good video bad design personal when it comes to the key part
I’m looking for a smaller key fob, not a larger one
It is smaller... 🤔
The rocker piece sucks. Doesn’t allow me to lock or unlock my doors

huge waste of time
Not for me, thank you!
this print case is a joke. how the hell you will use the physical key without the leverage. It jeep so the original key match what this car all about
