Society teaches teenage girls that everything marketed toward them is bad. Music, clothes... they're not allowed to be themselves and find who they are when it's most important. This leads to girls feeling like they don't want to belong in society's view on teenage girls, or the "I'm not like other girls" trope. Let girls love themselves and support one another! 💖
@@pewwer123 thats really similar to what I'm going through, even though I was never forced or nagged to present a certain way, I just always loved a good combination of jeans and a sweater. Now when I'm "all grown up" and want to wear a skirt for a change, or a dress, it feels like I'm unnecessarily dressing up, and it didn't help that when I was a bit younger my mum always asked "who are you so nicely dressed for?" every time I wore something different than jeans. She stopped after I talked to her about it, but the damage was done and yeah, I feel really insecure in most feminine outfits. I hate that people are so judgy over something as unimportant as clothes someone else wears (as long as they're not straight up offensive with the texts on them or imitating or sexualising other cultures, of course)
Patrycja J same I just want to put on some more feminine clothes every once in a while but I can’t feel comfortable in it bc of the way people look at girls in feminine clothes, I don’t want to be sexualized
People are always hating on teenage girls and it’s fucking dumb. Sure we sometimes do cringy things but we’re teenagers we make mistakes. So do adults. And to be honest our generation is dealing with a lot of more mature issues, and here adults are making fun of the things we like, when most of the things we like aren’t hurting anyone.
Mwep Mwep My mom would always tell me to wear earrings ‘cause “girls wear earrings”. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mother and I know she means well. I just wished she stopped saying things like that. But recently, my mom has started to understand and I’m now in the teen phase so she’s been more understanding and forgiving. I’m very grateful for that. I don’t like makeup and it’s not to make me like other girls, I just don’t feel comfortable with it. I’ve had MANY and I mean MANY women and girls a bit older than me tell me that they were “JuSt LiKe Me” when they were younger. It’s really annoying. If I start to like makeup and stuff, it’ll be on MY terms. I wear really causal clothing and I simply don’t care enough to change my appearance. My mom would criticize how I dress ‘cause I keep wearing the same shirts. I wear those shirts ‘cause they reflect who I am as a person. I also don’t wear the other shirts ‘cause they make me either feel too mature or too childish. I had this one guy in my grade sexually harass me. I’ve always felt uncomfortable with my body since it’s MUCH more mature than other girls’. That might also be another reason as to why I don’t dress too femininely. That doesn’t mean I don’t like skirts and dresses, I just don’t know how to dress up with them. I don’t really have any skirts and I’m not comfortable with them. Dresses have always felt too formal for me. It’s kinda weird. At this point, I really don’t care all too much how people think of my appearance. I had this one kid that I didn’t even know say that I’m ugly and that he would never date me. Not gonna lie, it hurt a bit. But it’s alright, I’m over it now. I also like Gacha Life and that stuff and I’m afraid of my IRL friends to find out. I’m afraid of how people will think of me, ESPECIALLY since I’m known as “the smart kid”. I just want to express myself without the fear of being judged. ~ 13 year old girl
“Teenagers look older now” maybe because any ANY teenager in media (films and tv) is played by someone who is 25-35 years old. No wonder a lot of teens are acting and dressing more maturely, the behaviour is directly influenced by what they see in media and it’s not healthy.
This is'nt entirely true I'm 14 and have been told i had an older face a lot. Frankly I don't care about how i look, i have just never experienced acne, I am tall, and lost baby fat quick it's the same with most kids my age.
She is a millionaire with TONS of advertising and she’s been that way for years. And during all those years she hasn’t been problematic once, she hasn’t snapped, she’s been a good model for years while keeping a business up. Idk how people call THAT immature.
As a teen girl, I realize, and want other teen girls to realize, that there is no personality you need to "strive" for. Just, be a good human in general, treat people well, don't be afraid to express yourself.
@@bettina4829 Np! and your username, I like it, and that's all you need to live upto. Don't let others' expectations burden/pressure you into doing something.
I feel like that's simplifying the complexities of growing up, especially as a teen girl. We should honestly just normalize kids being kids, letting them find themselves without fear. Unless they've harmed someone to the point the other person is traumatized, mistakes happen, people grow, sometimes a better environment is all someone needed to reflect on their behavior.
I can't think of a single time a guy has been criticized for being "too old" or even "too young" for their age. We even normalize men acting like children by calling them man-babies and saying it's "cute" when they're so incapable.
@@PatDaley ... women have those same issues? Mid life crises aren't male-exclusive. And as for settling down, every woman I know is bombarded with when are you going to find a husband, when are you going to have kids, etc etc. Those are adult social constraints and familial growing pains. Teen girls can't do anything right in society's eyes (aside from being sexualized, I guess). Anything teen girls like and gravitate to? Cringe! If she dresses older she's a slut, younger she's weird. If she's tomboyish she's a lesbian or "wrong" in doing so, too feminine? A ditz. It's funny to mock teen girls as a group. Their voices, their interests, their fashion, personalities, etc. Teen boys, on the other hand, don't really get that same type of blanket treatment. Sure, they have similar phenomenon on a smaller, more specified scale, but most of the time when looking at generalizations, stuff teen boys like? Cool, fine, funny. There isn't nearly as much pressure on how boys should or shouldn't dress - if a guy still dresses like he did at 13 at 16.... I mean, that isn't a huge change, many wouldn't even notice. If he dresses older, he's mature, collected. Men do suffer their own criticisms, that is true. But pointing out this specific discrepancy and bringing attention to it doesn't negate that. You can focus on multiple things at once.
Yes she should have fun. But childhood is also about progressing toward adulthood. It's like saying who cares that the child is still crawling and not walking. When someone fails to display signs of advancing in this progression we become concerned. Will she end up like Micheal Jackson? "acting too young for her age" twice, a girl group who's in their twenties: _heart shaker, likey, what is love, dtna, literally almost all their songs intesifies_
The thing with Twice and other similar cute concept groups is that their clothes are usually very sexualized and made to make them look young but not truly child like like with Jojo. Twice caters to a more male audience in general, tho they definitely attract females just as well. Them acting younger then they are is both a cultural difference with how Americans act compared to Koreans and also a marketing tactic. It makes them appeal more to seem innocent and cute in personality towards their fans. Obviously everything they do is not all to keep up their image but they are still heavily monitored by their company and told wat to do when it comes to variety shows and the like. Jojo has a younger demographic then them and acts child like is a different way to how they do. They both wear cute type clothing but Twice is way more sexualized with their stylists putting them in crop tops and short skirts a lot. I think it’s hard to compare how Twice is allowed to act childlike with Jojo just because the ways in which they act in that way are really different and Jojo has a different demographic that she caters to in which her image doesn’t get sexualized like Twice’s does. I love Twice but you have to admit that in kpop a lot of minors and younger women are sexualized even tho they’re participating in cute or innocent concepts because it plays into those school girl type fantasies that some men have.
@@marvel_sea8797 Good comment! Generally when we company western media to other medias, we need to remember culture differences. In East Asia, it's expected and required that teen females and females in their 20's act sweet, cute and young towards a guy and it's much more accepted to have childlike appearance or mannerism in certain situations.
Why is society like this? When someone says "Act your age" but they never really say THIS Is how to act your age, They Never demonstrate how age groups should act and should not act, They should teach how age groups should act and shouldn't act, In the future or actually they should probably implement this as soon as possible in online schools or after this pandemic were everything has calmed down, Fyi I'm just 11
I'm 14 and I have also noticed this unrealistic standard, you can act one way then people with tell you off, then you do a 180 and do the opposite then people with tell you off just as much. It's stupid and unfair and you can never make society happy, everything you do is wrong and nothing can ever change that. And so that is why I try not to listen to anybody on how I should act or look.
It’s super cool that you can see through so much of the hypocrisy at such a young age. When I was your age I dressed a lot like Jojo Siwa, but shortly after that I was pressured to wear “normal” and “trendy” clothing and to “act my age” even though emotionally I was quite mature. I was able to be more true to myself and confident in 7th grade, but by 9th grade I had confirmed far more than I wanted to admit. I had convinced myself that I wanted to fit it and I could do that by wearing certain clothing. Only in the past few months have I really broken free from those ideas, and I’m almost a college student. For once I’m actually just wearing whatever I want, sometimes two or more days in a row, bc if it makes me feel good or serves a purpose, that’s all that matters. Confidence is the coolest thing there is, and it’s also one of the best feelings. I wish you luck. Middle school and high school can be fun, but there will be a lot of pressure. I believe in you though!
I can totally see what you mean about people on UA-cam knowing more and thus not usually being the haters. I watch UA-cam alot, am a film and animation student, and have been planning to become a content creator myself once my life gets a little less busy, and I never hated JoJo and in fact thought it was weird that she got so much hate. The only thing I don't like is the loudness of the videos but lots of influencers use that style to create interest, and if that's not your cup of tea, you don't have to watch! I think her brand and message are overall wholesome and the aesthetic is really cute. Your video is a good analysis of the situation!

I have the utmost respect for Jojo Siwa, I see her as being very authentically herself and coping very well with the negative comments. I also absolute ADORE her style and if I was in her target audience and not a month older than her, i would be the BIGGEST Jojo fan. (I'm 19)
What's so hilarious, is how everyone these days is preaching acceptance and love, but suddenly it's acceptable to bully a 17 year old girl because of the way she dresses and acts.

Hell if I had have enough money when I was about 14, I would have dressed exactly as she does. I literally loved to be compared with "unicorn vomit" up untill I was 16 or so (bc I used to dye my hair and really loved the rainbow aesthetic in clothes and accessories) and considering that she made that her BRAND, it is understandable for her to keep being like that until now. I think she is kinda cool, and although I have never been interested in her content (I mean I'm not the average age of her target audience of course) I have never had any problem with her. What is more, now that I saw this video and saw all of the glitter and stuff, I just want to spread glitter and rainbows all over my face rn lmao. Haters gonna hate, and I think that is very much preferable underage kids acting like toddlers than acting over mature and hence being sexualized by adults. Jojo herself said "I am a child" and so she was. Turning 18 or 21 doesn't automatically make you an adult. You have people at 25 dressing "according to their age" but acting like children.
I'm two years younger than JoJo, but she's literary such an inspiration, I'm childish, I like bows and things you could say are only for kids, but when I was in middle school a lot of friends of mine hated her, but I loved her, and now that she is dressing a bit more like a 'teen'and her coming out everyone loves her now, hich in a way is good but idk. Hypocrates. Andhoever you dress, no matter what age, it's your style, don't let anyone tell you how you should dress by your age.
tbh, I don't care if she looks or dresses like a little kid, she's just insufferable and obnoxious regardless clothing. imo I'm not fond of people who are loud and scream or shout either at me or the camera. being loud isn't a personality.
(30 F) They’ll bash her for being unabashedly herself and you can bet the moment she pulled her hair down every creepy hopped on that. You know they did, I wonder how much of haters wanting her to “grow up” is projection and potentially hides insidious intentions. Leave this girl alone, focus on yourselves for once.
I honestly see nothing wrong with Jojo dressing or acting young, many people especially people who are neurodivergent like me, like to partake in "childish" interests that people might see as "cringe" but if it isnt hurting anyone, why does it matter? I am not saying she is neurodivergent because I really don't know, but I can relate to her in a sense because I don't really "act my age" since I am ND
I used to really like Jojo when I was like eight. Once I turned around twelve, I started to hate her for being annoying and "cringe". Now I'm fifteen. I can see through that and understand that I was honestly being hypocritical. In my personality and how I act, me and Jojo are the same. I'm childish, I'm loud, I'm obnoxious. Sure, on the outside I look like a perfectly normal teenage girl, but to people that know me I'm a childish, sheltered late bloomer who needs to go outside and grow up. I feel for Jojo, like a lot.
Honestly, I'm 19 and I just think it's super refreshing to see a girl in the public eye who was able to evade the whole "you turn sexy as soon as the clock hits 18" phenomenon
Some years earlier I thought she was too loud, obnoxious even. I didn't really get the hype. But then I realized that she's not making content for me. It's for kids. And now I respect her much more. I'm not a fan tho, but I think she's all right. I'm 23 btw
Same! I became sort of a fan (im 21), just because of how she deals with all the hate, it must be really hard at her age to hear all of those negative things (like that guy who drove by her house to yell at her im-????) so i really respect her.

Ya she takes the hate in stride and looks at it objectively. Instead of feeling flawed and lashing out, she's like "they just bully me cause I'm loud and dress like a kid." So she understands why she's getting hate, but she's able to separate the hate from how she actually feels about herself.

I agree. Also there are many adults (30+) let's say on TV in kid's shows and they will usually also act younger and no one cares about them so I really don't see why people have a problem with Jojo.
Yeah, god forbid we celebrate childhood and respect someone who encourages preteen girls to find joy in their youth. Let’s get them worrying about what everyone thinks of them and dressing like adult objects of desire as soon as possible.
Sadly a lot of children try to grow up way too fast and children need to be children for as long as they can. before they have to start worrying about being an adult and the life of being an adult
And that's the main problem. The problem with her is that she doesn't sexualize her self like adult man want her to. That's absolutely disgusting when you think about it.
i turn 23 in 2 months and i still collect plushies while still being in my 'emo phase'. i literally do not care about what people choose to wear or how they act as long as they're not hurting any one. I really do not understand the whole 'be yourself but not like that' mentality at all. (also great video)
Because you yourself are being deviant. I am also pretty emo and have a bunch of stuffed animals and I’ve learned that those of us who would be considered “deviant” by society are more open to others (like Jojo Siwa) who don’t fit the norm because we ourselves understand nonconformity and that it’s simply just an attempt to express ourselves. Sully groups who are considers deviant are much more open and excepting and willing to understand different pov’s even if they don’t necessarily like how they look.
I also think because some of us “become” deviant at a younger age and continue to stay that way we are used to doing what we like because it makes us happy and not because it’s a social trend or socially acceptable, so I think there are a lot of “normal” people who WANT to let’s say for example where a pink bow in their hair because they feel it will make them happy, won’t because they are too aware of the backlash they may get from those around them. So then in return when they see someone in public ACTUALLY doing what they want they chastise them for doing something they thought get wasn’t allowed, and it usually makes people more upset when others around them aren’t made at the person as well. So basically what I’m trying to say is I think there are a lot of people who just go with trends or the “norm” in order not the criticized by people who think like them, they are too afraid to confront the idea that some people like to do or dress for their pleasure which is a concept mostly foreign to them. (I hope that all makes sense lol)

@@ebenman447 because we are children and a lot of people hold us up to higher standards than just a child we need to be mature and focus on schoolwork. yuup.. and she is not even 20 yet.. wow.. just wow.. i am really impressed by this side of her... you basically won some aspects of your life on the begining of your adult life.. in great majority by yourself, not inheretance or status or whatever...
It's kinda ironic, that she was on dance moms and got some much hate from Abby Lee and then gets more money than her and is the most popular out of all of dance moms.
I'm curious, at what age are we "no longer allowed" to wear colorful things and hair accessories? I'm 27 and wear little bows in my hair that match my colorful outfit. I love sparkly things. I also love stupid silly filters. I made a snapchat with a cheese puff filter and sang about being a cheese puff for 5 seconds and posted it because it made ME laugh and made ME happy. Stop assuming that everyone has to please YOU and dress how YOU think they should. Ya'll just jelly of her. She gets so much hate for being colorful. I first saw jojo on dance moms when she was a little girl. I personally thought she was very rude and stuck up but she got it from her mom and grew out of it. I stopped watching dance moms because I realized that it's a show about an adult woman verbally abusing children and the parents are stupid af. She's seems a lot nicer now. I kind of feel bad for her though. She's had to grow up in the spot light. She has to be perfect all the time. I wonder if this is a facade that she's being made to put on so that her mom can stay rich or if she's happy being spunky and sparkly. There's nothing wrong with being that way, but is she being made to stay that way for money or is she happy?
Hmmm... i dont actually think there is an age where were "not allowed to wear colorful things" its just standardized to wear dull stuff when we grow older. I personally wear dull stuff bc i want to and i like the vibe of it. I wear dull stuff bc it makes me happier. But bc its standardized, its not common to see someone her age wearing colorful attire. I think thats where the problem starts: people are used to see dull clothes so they think its the right way to wear clothes. The more "mature way" if you will, to wear clothes. They think its childish. So uhh...sorry for the essay everyone who read this 😅
@@The333hf333 it’s the styling of it. Plenty of teenage-young adult stores are selling products that callback to childhood, but when you wear it certain way you won’t look like a child, just inspired by one.
I'll admit when I first started seeing JoJo pop up in stores and on tv, I thought she was a bit obnoxious. I thought she was just another one of those loud, annoying, influencers and that really wasn't my cup of tea. Like who would like that? Then I started learning more about her in general and grew to be relatively impressed. She knows the job, she does the job well, she seems like a pretty smart and genuine person. If I had a daughter (or son), I would see her as a decent role model.
Do people forget jojo's audience is children? CHILDREN. Like obviously she is going to appear a little weird but I mean its to appeal to children not teens, like can yall just let her live her life....
nah man, as a just turned 12yr old girl Jojo Siwa was never popular ever, at least not in my friend group where like all of the girls are goody two shoes girly girls
Jojo Siwa was the last remnants of the tween era. The tween era is disappearing which is why former shops and industries that catered to pre-teen girls like Justice and Claire’s don’t really exist anymore. Jojo Siwa was an important figure for tween girls and it was so refreshing and nice to see a girl being herself and not trying to grow up regardless of age.
Exactly. To me, there are different.... stages of childhood to me, and because I'm an adult who still has a very childlike outlook on the world, and who loves to be a kid sometimes because it makes me happy, I've been trying to understand what these stages are. I think tweenhood is what JoJo represents, totally, the type from the 2000s and early 2010s, before social media truly took off. Tween girls, like myself back then, were still childlike, we loved toys and cute cartoons for kids, and happy and wholesome things. But, we also enjoyed some teenage things, like shopping, romance, gossip (although that wasn't me), etc. It's that threshold between child and teen, so those interests combine and mish mash together for a period, until a certain age is reached, where childlike interests gradually fade, and full teenhood takes effect. It's interesting, because I do still feel like a tween sometimes, even though I'm 22. But, there are also parts of myself that feel adult. So, I can really relate to JoJo in that way, where she represented my kind of tweenhood, the kind that I lived through growing up. It's very refreshing, and something that I've been trying to pinpoint for the longest time, but you hit it on the head! LOL
Tween era, on the internet. Dw, a lot of kids are still the teens you recognize. Not all young girls want to be instabaddies but I'm sure the pressure is high
She literally said “I am a child” because she was indeed a child omg 😭 ofc she will act like any normal kid would if they weren’t so bombarded with what social media expects a teenager to be like nowadays
i cant blame teenage girls for hating on her? because they're trying to fit in and i assume seeing someone deviating successfully could be infuriating to them. not sure if that makes sense.
i also think there is this hatred of the culture of "teen girls" to the point where its the butt of jokes when girls actually act like kids...when they are kids. misogynist fucks are annoyed by girls just being themselves so there is such a pressure to grow up fast and distance urself from the "kids" even when u are one urself. normalize acting your age and enjoying being a kid. not judging anyone that acts older, i just feel like girls need to know that its ok to not try to seem more "mature" so others accept them. u are just fine being u! go put up boy band posters write fanfiction sing along to ur favorite songs do whatever makes u happy! u are not annoying no matter what anyone says! teen girls are awesome and amazing and strong as fuck!!! -teenage girl who is almost not a teenager anymore
god thank you for this, as a teenage girl right now i feel so much pressure by social norms and my family to act like an adult already despite me still being a minor- sometimes i feel bad that i like certain things that most people consider "childish". but thank you for your comment and advice this means so much to me
fuck yeah! ive always noticed this behaviour! for instance, twilight is (or at least was in the early 10's) seen as the most pathetic fictional story of the decade while that movie series transformers is often shrugged off as just leisure time entertainment, even though it is even worse in terms of plot and writing thant the twilight series. and you know why that happens? exactly: because twilight was targeted for teenage girls, while transformers for young boys. it is disgusting the way this structural prejudice puts young women in such a bad view by all groups of humans. females deserve better tbh
Honestly I’m the type just to be quiet and not do much but most of the reasons I act mature is due to the fact I could make a wrong move and embarrass myself in front of a crowd.
I never had a problem with her. She's not hurting anyone like "baddies" online. She just seemed funny for me like she didn't give a shit about anyone's opinions. I lowkey look up to her for that. She's a great dancer but people don't see her for that. I think she's a good role model! She teaches kids how to not care what others think and how to be themselves and have fun doing it. She's also teaching them how to have fun while being safe, unlike Jake Paul or other UA-camrs. My dad's best friend is her sales manager and it kinda made me realize how cool she really is lmao. She's polite and happy and actually pretty smart when you think about it.
Fr, I’m 16, I have never hated on her. I do admit to laughing at the memes of her which I believe is ok as long as I’m not hating her. I found it courageous of her to dress up like that and carry this confidence despite also having fluctuations of insecurity. She is a brave girl. I applaud her for that. I’ve always accepted the way she dressed, it’s obviously something not what I prefer, but if she wants to, then she can. She isn’t harming anyone. I admire that she has this personality tho. She really went in for that “child at heart”, it is a good thing. But asides from that, you can tell it’s not like she’s pushing reality away, she’s just happier this way which makes total sense. We also see her talking about her controversies too. She knows how to speak, she is 16(17?). Just because she dresses like that and she presents herself as a child at heart, doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the same thinking processes as a 16(17?) year old. There’s no doubt. If you can’t treat her like a child, then she isn’t purposely tryna be a child. She’s just navigating her personality around positivity and becoming a child at heart. Nothing wrong with that.
I fully agree with you, she is allowed to have fun however she wants and people really shouldn’t criticize her for it. Plus unlike a lot of us, she became popular and was gaining lots of money at such a young age so people are probably just jealous :p
FOR REAL!!! i'm currently 16 and always found her really cool??? like how she just doesn't care what everyone thinks about her, it's the confidence i wish i had
I always thought it was weird how much the internet, especially adults, bullied a teen girl for being herself and doing what most would call "staying in a childs place". In my perspective she was influencing younger girls differently than how most media does today. She taught young girls that you don't have to grow up so fast, or change who you are to fit the social norm. To enjoy being a kid, or life in general in whatever color of light you want. It hurts me that through out her childhood with Abby, and through her life online, she was never really accepted because she was different; Loud, sparkly, flashy and upbeat. Characteristics that would be admirable to a child but characteristics criticized by adults for being creepy. In my eyes she was no different than Steve from blues clues,Stephanie from lazy town or dj Lance who were all childhood favorites to many. I appreciate that she was someone my baby sister could look up to and enjoy while growing up. One thing I did notice however was a lot of the jokes, memes, and bullying stopped after Jojo had come out as a Lesbian. After that the internet shifted their stance, and perspective about her and labeled her as a good representation for the lgbt community and a great role model for children. She is, and always has been a good role model, but Its upsetting how much equality, acceptance and peace is preached on social media when prior it was funny to hate and harrass her for being herself. I think we should learn that when it comes to someone who is happy and harmless that we should respect them in the way we would want to be respected. We forget sometimes that celebrities and public figures are still human and feel the ways we do. That we can be the cause for their trauma just as one person could be to ours. There should not have been exception for toxicity. I hope as we progress we learn true acceptance of and love.
She came out as a lesbian not long ago... it's starting. If she wasn't sexualizing herself, she wouldn't feel the need to make something so intimate public knowledge

She isn’t immature, she just dresses quite “young” and is a content creator for kids. Takeaway her jobs and outfits, she isn’t an immature person, and is much more mature than Danielle Cohn for example.
I might be wrong but hasn't she always been in the film industry? How do you know what she's like without her job and outfits... I don't really know much about her so I'm just honestly asking. I don't see her being a bad role model or encouraging kids to do terrible things other than play with glitter and dance so I just don't get it... Who is she harming and how? I'm assuming you're more knowledgable about the subject than I am.
But what is your perception of 'young'? How did you come to the conclusion that pink and sparkles isn't appropriate? The way ppl view life is very different from person to person so, for a lot of people, jojo siwa is a normal 17 yo.
@@lilyfisher775 yeah. If she was an adult dressing like that it would just be a style choice. But because it seems like JoJo just "won't grow up" people seem to have issues with it.
As a 21 year old who first saw Jojo on Dance Moms, I admire Jojo's work ethic, drive and maturity (ironic I know!) It's amazing to see how successful she has become and whilst I don't consume her content now, I am excited to see her eventually mature with her audience. For now, she's killing it and I couldn't be more happier for her.
I feel bad for her. I can't imagine having a childhood like hers: being on dance mom's, she was separated from her dad and her brother. She's keeps a RIGOROUS upload schedule that even most adult youtubers can't keep up with, on top of her tours and other projects. If we factor in her social media presence, her work load must be insane... and on top of that, the hate that she's had to deal with. I wouldn't be shocked to learn that being so involved in media from such a young age has robbed her of her childhood. I don't hate her, but I do feel a certain animosity for the adults in her life that have allowed her to be in the position where she's a child, with adult responsibilities.
Also, i think her parents brought her to pageants when she was just 2. They've been pushing her so hard for so long and are STILL benefiting off of her fame. And you're right that she was robbed of her childhood. Maybe the reason that she says she likes acting younger than her age is because she never really was allowed to have a *real* childhood. Jojo has to deal with WAY more than we know/expect of someone her age, and people who are quick to judge her overlook that factor.
I fully agree with this but even though I had never heard of her until this video I am sceptical that the is simply not allowed to deviate from that particular “look” because it is the brand that has been curated for her and she needs to keep pushing it for the sake of business. I’d definitely be interested to see if she continues to stick with it after she becomes a legal adult.
*jojo is literally unbothered and she’s a great influence not just for young children, but for anyone that appreciates youthful energy as much as she does.*
Publicly unbothered but everyone knows truths rise in insecure moments to all of us. Putting on positive attitude only lasts so long, need to change and respond to critized areas from others or self otherwise something will snap inside you too late and end badly.
nickmoney therapist exists. And if she successfully keeps it up she won’t have to bother with the consequences far after she’s done with being in the public eye. Yes eventually she will get older and have to change how her democratic as they change with her but for now she’s doing just fine and seems to be handling it pretty well

I''m 30 and used to be active in the UA-cam game years ago. I first heard about Jojo a few years ago through work because we hired her as an influencer. Like you said, you don't see a teen girl intentionally present as younger than her age. As an adult, seeing her content is about as strange as seeing any other type of content aimed at children. You just go "hmm okay" and move on. But my reaction at work was "good choice" because you can just tell on sight that she sells well to her audience. At the end of the day, being polarizing tends to be good for business. And if you can be polarizing without being problematic, then good on you. Her commitment to kayfabe (sorry to use a wrestling term but it's helpful in media analysis) is also admirable, especially under intense scrutiny. With social media being so ubiquitous, it can be harder to tell the difference between where the lines are between person and performer and where does the show begin and end. I think that also explains why her just wearing normal clothes can go viral. Seeing Steve from Blues Clues out and about in the real world across different social platforms while staying in character probably would have made me pause back in the day. In terms of things closer to my peer group, you also see some women in their 20s and 30s with style choices that seem inspired by Lisa Frank and are not far-off from how Jojo Siwa presents. Seems to just be a nostalgic way of enjoying their femininity that has the bonus of being something men don't like because it doesn't cater to the male gaze. There's a lot of things at play here. She's a successful public figure for a reason. Great video.
I think she gets more backlash than Danielle and that kind of girls bc she's very little sexual. This world is overflowing with hypersexualization; a teen still acting like a child like Jojo is so out of place. Danielle might get criticism for her branding, but as soon she turned 18 she made tons of money on OnlyFans and some sees her as a femminist icon, while she's just the victim of a society who wants us to grow up as fast as we can, the same society that comes at Jojo for being the way she is. Btw, I'm 23
I agree to an extent. Jojo Siwas' audience is prepubescent children therefore her speaking about her sexual orientation is also inappropriate. She can be herself and love whom she chooses, however, like Danielle she is still using sexuality and exposing young girls; just in a different way. Jojo is a business woman, and she has created this entire empire, however, her content should not have anything to do with sexuality at all. I truly believe the difference between the acceptance of Danielle vs. Jojo Siwa is Danielle is a damaged young woman being her authentic damaged self. She did not create a wholesome image as a marketing strategy and play a character online to make money. One is troubled and the other is playing a part. Therefore, Danielle has an authenticity whether we morally agree with her or not. I hope I didn't offend at all as it's not my intention! I just wanted to give a differing perspective. Young girls are often oversexualized and I agree, but the issue is it being done in different ways. Parents don't want their children exposed to sexuality at such a young age therefore that boundary should not be crossed. Danielle's audience is older also. Also, I hate child celebrity culture. It's so dangerous for the actual children and history has proven how devistating it is to their mental and emotional health.

Children should not he subjected to adult subjects. Thats not homophobia rather common sense. You do not me or my sexuality, yet you continuously keep imposing your perception on me. The issue has nothing to do with her sexuality and that is just a deflection from the real issue. It is very irresponsible to expose young children whose brains are not fully developed and lack cognitive skills to anything sexual. That is my issue period. It has nothing to do with her sexual preferences, it has to do with exposing children to adult subjects.
That saying always pissed me off. I'm in my twenties and when someone tells someone to act my age I'm like, "Okay then. Give me the book that tells me HOW I'm suppose to act my age. Oh? Don't have it? The frick off!"

At 33 I honestly wish I could get away with that much glitter 😂 I think my hubby would have a conniption lol. I think JoJo was given a massively raw deal because of the editing in Dance Moms, to see not only grown women but mothers ripping her to shred for being a kid was astounding & actually flipped my initial reaction of “oh god I don’t like this kid” when coming across her content online. I’m still not a fan, but that’s now just simply because I’m not her demographic, I can totally respect her behaviour & be happy my young nieces look up to her for the right reasons.
I DON'T understand why people hate on her so much. because they are narcissistic personality disorder and they are very jealous people ...and they hate seeing other people so happy .. they TRY to put them down for it .... never you mind them the narcissistic haters they don't matter ... only one heart that brave and true and kind matters .

My mom would always tell me to wear earrings ‘cause “girls wear earrings”.
Yeh teens look 30 when they’re 16 now it’s grim

I feel like that's simplifying the complexities of growing up, especially as a teen girl. We should honestly just normalize kids being kids, letting them find themselves without fear. Unless they've harmed someone to the point the other person is traumatized, mistakes happen, people grow, sometimes a better environment is all someone needed to reflect on their behavior.
I can't think of a single time a guy has been criticized for being "too old" or even "too young" for their age. We even normalize men acting like children by calling them man-babies and saying it's "cute" when they're so incapable.
men get criticized all the time . he's having a "mid-life crisis," "when are you going to settle down", etc.
@@PatDaley that's not true and not even the same thing dude
I'm sorry, I though manbaby/manchild was an insult given to immature men?

"acting too young for her age"
twice, a girl group who's in their twenties: _heart shaker, likey, what is love, dtna, literally almost all their songs intesifies_
When someone says "Act your age" but they never really say THIS Is how to act your age, They Never demonstrate how age groups should act and should not act, They should teach how age groups should act and shouldn't act, In the future or actually they should probably implement this as soon as possible in online schools or after this pandemic were everything has calmed down, Fyi I'm just 11
You are quite observant for an 11 year old young lady. Good!
Its her life guys she should be ayloud to dress how she wants without all your rude comments and she can wear her hair whatever way she wants atop being mean

I’m 28 and I think there’s nothing wrong with it. She’s clearly having a good time and I’d rather my future kids look up to jojo than bregoli
Lindsay Ellis said it the best: "The world hates teenage girls."
Period. That's it. You can do no right. Everything is wrong. What you like is cringy, you appearance is wrong, your sexuality is bad. Everyone hates young girls, even young girls hate being young girls and feel like they have to be different and not the stupid cringy stereotype. But it's ok to be young and like what you like! It's time for us to stop and let teenagers be teenagers.
They hate older women too lol
it isn't Jojo Siwa's personality. She is just doing her job entertaining kids or acting like a kid.
They hate women. Period
You're right, I personally like My little pony and toys (I'm 13) and I try to hide it 'cause I think people will call me a lil girl and really childish :/
Tbh we also hate older women. And teen boys. And older men (most justified). We all hate eachother, we hate ourselves.

Okay let's not say a bit... but I agree
I agree. Also there are many adults (30+) let's say on TV in kid's shows and they will usually also act younger and no one cares about them so I really don't see why people have a problem with Jojo.

Jojo siwa doesn’t dress too young! She just has her own unique style.
Yeah, god forbid we celebrate childhood and respect someone who encourages preteen girls to find joy in their youth. Let’s get them worrying about what everyone thinks of them and dressing like adult objects of desire as soon as possible.
Agree 💯!!
Sadly a lot of children try to grow up way too fast and children need to be children for as long as they can. before they have to start worrying about being an adult and the life of being an adult
And that's the main problem. The problem with her is that she doesn't sexualize her self like adult man want her to. That's absolutely disgusting when you think about it.
this is so true
like Cohn and Bad Barbie
i turn 23 in 2 months and i still collect plushies while still being in my 'emo phase'. i literally do not care about what people choose to wear or how they act as long as they're not hurting any one.
(I hope that all makes sense lol)
same i hate the whole “be who you are as long as you fit in our standards”

Yes! I agree!
Hmmm... i dont actually think there is an age where were "not allowed to wear colorful things" its just standardized to wear dull stuff when we grow older. The more "mature way" if you will, to wear clothes. nah man, as a just turned 12yr old girl Jojo Siwa was never popular ever, at least not in my friend group where like all of the girls are goody two shoes girly girls
LOL

i also think there is this hatred of the culture of "teen girls" to the point where its the butt of jokes when girls actually act like kids...when they are kids. misogynist fucks are annoyed by girls just being themselves so there is such a pressure to grow up fast and distance urself from the "kids" even when u are one urself. normalize acting your age and enjoying being a kid. not judging anyone that acts older, i just feel like girls need to know that its ok to not try to seem more "mature" so others accept them. u are just fine being u! go put up boy band posters write fanfiction sing along to ur favorite songs do whatever makes u happy! u are not annoying no matter what anyone says! teen girls are awesome and amazing and strong as fuck!!! -teenage girl who is almost not a teenager anymore

fuck yeah! ive always noticed this behaviour! for instance, twilight is (or at least was in the early 10's) seen as the most pathetic fictional story of the decade while that movie series transformers is often shrugged off as just leisure time entertainment, even though it is even worse in terms of plot and writing thant the twilight series. and you know why that happens? exactly: because twilight was targeted for teenage girls, while transformers for young boys. it is disgusting the way this structural prejudice puts young women in such a bad view by all groups of humans. females deserve better tbh
Jojo Siwa needs to hear this cuz TRUUUU😂 believe it or not
Fr, I’m 16, I have never hated on her.
Yea! She’s just being herself and having a good time, and someone like that is a good role model for kids
FOR REAL!!! i'm currently 16 and always found her really cool??? like how she just doesn't care what everyone thinks about her, it's the confidence i wish i had

Yes I hear you
I fully agree with this but even though I had never heard of her until this video I am sceptical that the is simply not allowed to deviate from that particular “look” because it is the brand that has been curated for her and she needs to keep pushing it for the sake of business. I’d definitely be interested to see if she continues to stick with it after she becomes a legal adult.
That was really well spoken and a good insight on this whole situation. Thanks for sharing!
And then when she wants that childhood back she's critisiced.....

@@sola8940 why do YOU ate jojo
yes,
I never hated Jojo. I’ve always loved her. What the fuck was that title??
@@charissa6648 Jojo Siwa’s coming out wasn’t inappropriate, kids can know that LGBT people exist. She’s not doing anything sexualized and no one would have a problem with it if she just said she was dating a man
@@charissa6648 ma'am lemme ask u a question... If jojo had came out as a girl who only feel attracted by boys, would you be as pissed off as you are? Or are you just being homophobic?
@@charissa6648 u sound really homophobic,coming out isn't inappropriate
@@notanormalcivilian65 Coming out to prepubescent children who have nothing to do with your personal sexuality; is inappropriate. Come out to everyone; not children. This is business and their is no monetary reason she needed to advice her child audience that she is homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual, pansexual or any other sexual.
"Act your age "
How is a 17 year old supposed to act like?
5 children and a wage job apparently
Like the child that they are
That saying always pissed me off. I'm in my twenties and when someone tells someone to act my age I'm like, "Okay then. Give me the book that tells me HOW I'm suppose to act my age. Oh? Don't have it? The frick off!"
Themselves
I feel like adults who constantly follow minors social media just to say “She acts too old for her age” or “She acts too young for her age” is creepy. Why is it such a concern to you what a teenage girl is wearing? Just get on with your lives.
(I'm 29) Honestly, I was just like Jojo in high school. Maybe a little less glitter, but I totally relate to clinging to more youthful attire. I will stan Jojo as long as she continues to be herself. While I don't listen to her music, I think Jojo is awesome and I DON'T understand why people hate on her so much.
Ikr I watch her IRL content vids and I also don't listen to music and I always wear cute clothes and bows and *IDGAF* about what people say *AS WE SHOULD*
At 33 I honestly wish I could get away with that much glitter 😂 I think my hubby would have a conniption lol. I think JoJo was given a massively raw deal because of the editing in Dance Moms, to see not only grown women but mothers ripping her to shred for being a kid was astounding & actually flipped my initial reaction of “oh god I don’t like this kid” when coming across her content online. I’m still not a fan, but that’s now just simply because I’m not her demographic, I can totally respect her behaviour & be happy my young nieces look up to her for the right reasons.
yeah she's actually wayyy more mature and smarter than most teenagers, she knows the market lol
@@Tamacoleo Wear your glitter girl! Life is too short!
People are complaining about teen agers acting like 20 years old while in the other hand, Jojo Siwa, being a GOOD INFLUENCE, acts her age and enjoys being a kid because she's gonna miss her childhood when she grows up still got hate? What is wrong with these people?!
💯 agree
Young girls are always wrong. No matter what they do, there will be someone shaking their head and saying that they should be different.
JoJo does not act her age, she acts 9. Don't lie lmao
She doesn't act her age but yes I agree
I would 100% rather my daughter have someone like JoJo Siwa, who is so unabashedly herself, to look up to rather than someone like Danielle Cohn who is just trying to be like everyone else and in a REALLY inappropriate way.
I do agree JoJo doesn't deserve hate, but if the world can accept someone growing up too slow, why can't they accept someone growing up too fast? Danielle can't help growing up faster than some of her friends. So leave Danielle alone. No hate, just explaining common sense since well you're a lil dumb
Honestly Danielle is just getting used by her mom. Can't wait till she turns 18 and realizes.
The problem with danielle is not that she acts too mature, its thats she acts bitchy and disrespects everyone
If we go by that word then gifted children are a bad influence because they think one year or more ahead than their peers
@@anna-zy5yg i understand what u mean but why i think a lot of people don't approve of Danielle Cohen is because by acting way older than she is and her posing/posting the way she does (i do think her mom is the main reason why she does tho) is just point blank dangerous. disgusting ppl will comment gross things and they can dm her, etc. It's completely unsafe and its promoting that to teens (like myself) However, with Jojo the hate is going away cause it isn't dangerous as her focus is towards kids and ppl are learning that if they don't like her just move on because nothing morally wrong is going on with her message and social media presence. (she rly isn't a good influencer for teens in my opinion tho)
@@anna-zy5yg the answer is pretty simple: children doing adult things in adult situations can lead to dangerous and adult consequences. In other words its more harmful. Your brain at that age isn't mature enough to truly understand the gravity of many things.
