I watched this game with my dad when he was in the hospital two months before his passing. It is one of my best memories with him, getting to watch our favorite team win a big one.
Possibly one of the best moments in not only Rangers history, but in baseball post-season history and Joe Buck couldn't have been less interested sounding.
It should have been....because it had never happened before. There had never before been a post season walk off brand slam. But this feelingless call of the play just killed any excitement for the moment.
+samsutliff The call is just fine. ANY deep ball would have ended this game. He should show the same emotion as if it were a walk off sac fly - which would have ended the game just the same. It was an appropriate reaction. A grand slam doesn't win the game "more" or anything. If you understand situational baseball, the reaction makes sense.
+Willoughby Krenzteinburg But if u heard, he said it was the first walk-off grand slam in postseason history. He could have had at least a little enthusiasm.
+Willoughby Krenzteinburg Yet just about any other crew, besides Joe Buck, would had at least acted like something special happened. So does that mean every other crew that announces baseball, and ONLY baseball, has no idea how to announce the game? More like Joe Buck has zero idea how to announce a baseball game (really any game for that matter, I don't think I've ever heard a good unbiased call by Joe Buck in the NFL either). Nonetheless it was a walk off hit in the ALCS to put a team up 2-0. I don't care if it was a Sac Fly, a little more excitement would had been nice, instead of "Oh, just to let you know, this ball ended the game."
@@cjsyblik3296 yup. I do miss the 2011 team though. Poor Nelly went from hero to me screaming at the top of my lungs cursing him on the worst night in Rangers history that year too.
I still remember being at this game and how electric the crowd was. I've never seen anything like it, something about 45,000 people screaming and cheering all at once is insane.
This team was so friggin stacked! Definitely should've won the title in 2011. Adrian Beltre, Nelson Cruz, Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Michael Young, Mike Napoli, etc.
I was at the game, I have been to many Rangers games in my life, was also there when they clinched in 2010 and 11 to the Series, but this, this is the top moment I have ever been at. Ive seen Nolan pitch (didnt see the No Hitter or Robin Ventura fight) but I was also at the first interleague game in baseball history, this tops it all. Never in baseball history had a postseason game ended on a grand slam, the atmosphere in the ballpark, the drama, oh you cant script October.
8 remember listening to this on the radio where Eric nadel went absolutely nuts. He said that this was what baseball's about And just let the crowd play for about 5 minutes. Joe buck could not have been more opposite. He makes it sound like a single on opening day.
I have sat through many football games, hockey games, basketball games, boxing matches, etc...but being in the stands that night topped everything. On the edge of my seat would be an understatement. I was totally nervous the entire game. That shot by Cruz was a euphoric moment. I remarked to my buddy, "Anybody who thinks baseball is boring should have been here tonight". Unfortunately, Cruz is remembered by so many as the man who cost us a World Series ignoring the possibility that without him we may not even have made the World Series.
I remember watching this game at the ballpark. Boy, did everyone go crazy after the walkoff. Best game I've ever been to. I've been to World Series Games.
I remember going to this game in the stands. Being able to witness this moment to its completion was always amazing. Barely being able to hear yourself over the crowd was astounding. And the best part was being only feet away from where the ball landed. My dad and I never had a better day than this game.
Man, this Rangers team was absolutely loaded. That lineup especially was murderer's row the second half of the year and into the postseason. They were far and away the best team in baseball that year. I don't care that the Cardinals brought home the trophy, this Rangers team was better.
I don't what Joe Buck has against the Rangers but when he announces he will do anything to put them down. When the Rangers do something or score a bunch of runs he sounds almost dejected.
The greatest moment of my sports life. As I stood in the left field seating bowl salivating for something amazing to happen, something amazing did happen. Off the bat, the first long foul looked like the moment but quickly veered foul. But with that second one, you knew it was gone off the bat. I remember thinking to myself "here comes a baseball" while the ball was in mid-flight. As the ball trickled into the crowd, a mass of euphoria took over the stands. Lot's of hugging, jump hugging, and expressions of unabated joy. We should all be so lucky to feel the way I did about anything that night. Now I watch this highlight with a 3 quarter smile, thrilled about the fantastic moment it was, but I find myself unable to shed the same tears of joy in light of what happened about 10 days later. But this is a fantastic moment that I will remember on my deathbed.
