I would have drained the gas, dropped the tank and cleaned it out. Probably need new fuel lines...(obviously the spark situation needs to be fixed as well). Hope it works out easily!
First you have to test the ignition coil by the voltmiter
Check the distributor breaker and wiring
Check the rotor of distributor and clean up
Check the ignition switch +15
Check igintion timing and igintion wires
Check the spark plugs and clean it
Check the compression by using the compression tester gage its about 12to 14 bar
Wow. You seem to know everything. Where can I find your how-to video at??
First drain & flush the gas tank, replace points, condenser & fuel filter. Pretend you're a good Catholic, drop to your knees & pray. I just started working on a gift car from my brother, Frankie. A 1958 Ford Fairlane Club Victoria 2 door hardtop that has been parked in a pasture for 41 years and was buried 3/4 up over the wheel hubs. Back seat floor pans are rusted thru and replacements on order. Full glass replacement on order. Thanks to the rat living in the air filter housing, it ate all the spark plug wiring on the passenger side and now I will have to order a carburetor. I wonder ?if I can replace the 2 barrell carb with a 4 barrel for more power? Assuming it will ever start again.... I got to drive this heirloom car when I was an 8th grader, somewhere around 1973-74...
Nice!!! It only ended up needing one little thing but… that’s been a while and can’t remember for the life of me what it was lol
Love the sound of the starter!
You guys have a nice home !
You should always get a new fuel pump as the old one is likely dried up and won't pump. They are the same from 1970 to 1976 on the 360, so no problem in getting one.
You should not add fuel to the carb without first cranking the engine to circulate some oil. Dry starts are very bad for an engine.
On projects such as this, I never put gas in a tank that's been sitting that long. Rather I get a clean gas can with about 6 feet of fuel hose.
Sometimes the reason the cars was left was because someone messed with it and couldn't get it started any more. So when you check the wiring make sure it's correct cause the person 20 years ago may have mixed them up. Just got a 69 Chevelle that's been sitting for 8 years going to try and bring it back from the dead probably next weekend.
This time I just had to change a $30 part and it started right up. I was lucky!
Was excited to watch this video as i just bought my old truck home that i haven't started in 15 years. Was hoping to see you finish all of your diagnosis and get it running.
It was in the next video because I wanted to have my daughter think she moved a few wires to think she fixed it. She wasn’t with me during the end of that video.
Good shii keep up the good work and your journey. No right or wrong way just keep posting!!
Thank ya!
pull the coil wire from dis cap. Hold off and get a helper to crank eng. it should snap loudly or bite you. if it's dark you will see it throw arc. or simply unplug number one wire and watch. Test light both sides of coil. if power there and still no fire cheap contenders quit and it will not fire. Clean the plate and check for points ground. May be last guy forgot to ground the points!
Carb may need cleaned. Check for fuel and spark then go from there
I had a car like this and did the same thing just to find out it was the carb
The fuel pump will be shot.the plungers hate inactivity
that's a badass jeep
Thanks! The new one is even better!
Bro I didn't know you had a channel!! Awesome man, hope you're well!
For a couple years now lol hope you are as well motivator!
Fun video
First thing you should have done.Check the condenser. And the points
After time the fuel looses its volatility, not to mention the leaded fuel back then being used. Carb bowl probably varnished with residue, as well as fuel tank and filter. I would take ipper section of carb off and check float. Finally i would spray statinin fluid down carb, as engine being cranked. Of course only if spark is produced.
Living the American dream broski
Did you also try draining the old fuel and adding fresh fuel. If not give it a try. I enjoyed the video.
Kids a star
Pull the cap and file those points.
New points or get an electronic.snap that file
@@martymcwhirter9864 drop fuel tank get a new one or clean the one you have change the fuel pump and fuel filter clean all the lines to the corbertor get a new one or have that one rebuild l have a 1987 lzuzu pup truck it have not ran for three years l did all that it did start up and l did the other things you did to
Check the points in the distributor and sand between them with emery cloth to see if you get spark there if not like stated before your coil may be bad....
changed the coil and still no spark
Dang! I subbed
I think a 7.3 would go perfect in that truck
7🌲
Some in this year came with a 7.5 which is a 460. Or they came with a 390 or 429 but because it's 1972 the emissions were already taking its toll on performance by this time as the 460 only had 224 horsepower.
I would have run it off a fuel can instead of that old tank until i cleaned it. Without watching any of the updated videos I'm thinking it's the ignition coil or spark plugs
absolutely... I cringed....
Just starting to get a 71 c/10 that’s been sitting for 20+ years going. Full of oil and antifreeze. I’m buying new tires and wheels. The breaks have fluid in it too. Hope I’ll be able to drive it very soon!!! Changed out fuel tank ,fuel pump, alternator, and blew through my fuel lines. I have plug wires, the distributor looked good.
Check fuel delivery system new pump and filter
Carberator rebuild kit
Petronix breakerless ignition instead of points Easy instal get the flame thrower coil to. Then later re gap the plugs to .045
New plug wires and use dielectric grease in the boots please
New cap and rotor button
try running a hot wire from battery directly to coil.
Hey hotrod a 6.0 is equivalent to that 360 soooooo it'll fit nicely in the engine bay 🤣😎
Exactly 👍🏼😀 and the bottom of them are perfectly shaped as well
Super cool kid...😂
I your not too far from me I’m 25 minutes away from Bristol
It's turning over strong. No fuel spark. Fuel pump, maybe pull off the carb and rebuild it.
that's bull 20 years my ass
Blinker fluid needs changing 👍🇺🇸👊
Hahahaha should've guessed that first!
@@TheBoostedFam I know ...we where late but we are here nevertheless to support the Powerchoke build all the way👍🇺🇸👊
could be the piston return springs too.
🤣😂💯😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂
surprised fuel pump worked
Same
Change your points condenser , check your coil and ballast resistor and as long as you have fuel you should be good to go.
was this part 0:16 filmed right after a dentist visit ? LOL ....she's adorable.
I would be taking the heads off and getting the heads dipped, valves cleaned up and change the valve stem seals.after sitting that long they will have gone hard and will cause the engine to burn oil through the valves.also the head gaskets don't like sitting that long and will blow in no time under load.
Sand on the points or just replace them. That is the most likely reason for no spark.
Have you try the spark rodder
It would help if you would tell us what you were spraying , with what and why
Coil is probably bad. Chase the no spark ⚡️ from source (battery) then coil wire, then coil, then distributor points etc, then wires then plugs.
Your on the right track and your not in a hurry to replace the engine because this one will start and run!
Dean Ender no big hurry to change engine just eager to be able to get it up and running and driving around town 😀
I have a 69 Chevelle 383 stroker build brand new every nut and bolt sat in storage for 9 years.. I get it back home yesterday so I'm doing my work today and my Pistons are frozen....this isn't my first rodeo I have no f****** idea of why my Pistons would be frozen after it's sat in storage heated storage for 9 years..I'm fukn livid right now
Coil? Hopefully you figured it out by now
Have u tried the fuel pump
Our 71 f250 took 6 quarts
I would start with coil..
It’s too bad that when you said you will decimate the original Ford Truck with a different engine and other factors. I like the video and your nice truck but your decision is your decision and I have to respect that.
At least I kept it all fore lol everyone else puts dodge parts in them
Points and condensor could be why there is no spark
Omg it didn't start 😭 lol that's really demotivating 🤣 I hope it started eventually
It didn’t once “my daughter” fixed it as she says 😂😂😂. Just didn’t let her know I fixed it while she was gone.
@@TheBoostedFam haha that's pretty cute 😂 little mechanic , I really enjoyed the video 👌
Of course it will run again...it's a FORD
Did you put new points in it
Change or clean the breaker points and she will start right up.
Fuel pump
Points bro
Ignition control module.
Check the points and condenser
you guys have good weather conditions, leave a car 20 years where i live the thing would completly rust away
Bullshit, I live right near where he lives and all the cars and trucks rust out.
Looks like my golfing shirt...18 hole.
First heck yah
Did you ever get this truck up and running? I would check that the points in the distributor is doing what its supposed to.
Yeah I took it out for a drive right after this video but not it's being tooa 6.0 Powerstroke and 4x4
So I gotta know...what was the reason your truck wasn’t starting? 😂 was it the fuel pump?
@@ralphpadilla5316 I had the wires on the ignition coil backwards but literally changed wire for wire... So idk how I messed it up but I managed too lol 😂😂😂
Points an condenser mabey coil
hey i have a 6.0 short block if your thinking of a 6.0 for the truck
Can you message me on Instagram? blacknwhitebuilds423
Check points and condenser
Put a wire from the live terminal on battery to the live on the coil
Test coil with multimeter
Replace point and condenser
Simple it’s your actual distributor that went out
Just get a good old 350 and call it done.😁 good luck!
Change the points and consider
Wires and router button
He needs to file the points and clean the carb
Ur fuel pump may be bad or ur fuel system needs cleaning like the carb
Change the coil and distributor points
I did the next day back when I did the video and it fixed it
Will you ever sell the valve covers
not sure
Probably an old breaker point system. Sure won't start with those old breaker points.
You just threw tons of money at that old truck for no reason
Does it have Gas?
dapple yes added 4 gallons
Fuel filter maybe
Did you check the point system?
on the distributor cap?
@@TheBoostedFamunder the rotor cap there should be one or two sets of point that should be cleaned to give you spark
@@martinblackburn2723 the points have spark and even have new plugs and wires still not turning over
@@TheBoostedFam did you check the firing order of the spark wire they might be put at the wrong spot
And check that you have spark at the coil by putting 12 volt on the coil momentarely
Ignition switch
My exhaust manifold smokes idk why when I turn it
Coming from the actual manifold or from between the manifold and engine block?
Points and condenser
Did she stated or no
It sure did! But did a diesel swap after
Blit the oli because the oli it's not working
The points in the distributor are bad replace them and the condenser it will fire right up
replaced them and still nothing, but the points are getting spark.
Sand points
Points
Points need setting
Yeah did that right after this video was made
Scrape the green crusty stuff off the points and try again
oxidized points? Electronic ignition is much easier
Points.
I'm going to say the points need changed
bypass the fuel tank gas got to b bad
fords do not use fram filters
Did an engine swap right after and was just trying to get it running
well i 10 yers old wen a hawe shop 1 car
Fuel pump,
It's not fuel injection you have to hit the has
I thought it was 20/50
Nou
Aren't you supposed to put a few drops of oil on pistons since pistons are so dry , before you start the engine so piston bores don't get all scratched up and fucked up for being so dry??????????????????
………….. did a motor swap after (knew I was going to) and was just seeing how it went to get such an old non starter engine started with the minimum effort… FYI only took a few bucks and just a normal oil change… 👍🏼
well put togerther piece of leather. bumpsides are still the king.sill clean enough to take wife on formal date.thanks fo da show..
So after watching all of this video it doesn't start ..
