Same issue, 2010. Only when it's hot out or I've been sitting idling for a while getting everything nice and toasty under the hood. I think the best thing I can do is replace the entire car..

Mine stopped making the noises suddenly. 🤷🏼‍♂️
But the wheel bearings sound like they're about to start a grass fire.

Hey Scott. Like you I have been chasing front end noises on my fusion. Had the creaking noise was lower control arms. Replaced every suspension part. Now I have a clunking sound. Looks like my steering rack has play. Hope new inner tie rods fixes it. But it’s good to know I’m not alone

Sway bar links -> groaning, crunching, clunking when slowing or going uphill
Ball joint -> groaning, uneven tire wear
Wheel hub -> play in wheel, howling
Cv axle -> play in steering, crunching, howling, groan when turning
Tie rods -> play in steering, groan or clicking when turning
Control arms (bushing)-> clunking going over bumps, groaning when cornering
If you have clunking, I would first inspect the control arm bushings and consider replacing sway bar links.

Did you get creaking when turning the wheel? My buddy thought it was my motor mount and transmission mount. Replaced and still there. Factory recall on power steering plug and still there. But hopefully soon i can change the struts and let ya know. Thanks for this video!

I have a 2012 hybrid as well, and the front suspension has been a nightmare. I’ve replaced both lower forward control arms 3x, outer tie rods at least once each, struts (quick struts with mounts) three times, left inner tie rod, the rear lower control arms, and the sway bar links. I’m still getting the creaking. The only thing I haven’t done is try to replace the upper control arms. I’m wondering if it’s a bushing on that, but I’m also starting to wonder if it’s something in the frame itself. I have 170K miles on it. Do you have any more updates? I saw on another comment that you thought it was the end links that needed tightening?

Same exact problem on my 2011 Fusion Hybrid. Took a shot at replacing complete struts. Didn’t fix it (but at 120k on original struts good to replace anyway.) eventually took it to Ford. Turned out to be control arm bushings. Fixed and 20k later, still good. Bushings just dried out. Ford told me it wasn’t a mandatory repair. But the noise bothered me too much. Hint: if the sound goes away when driving in the rain, it’s likely control arm bushings.

That sounds like crunching my 2011 sounds like actual creaking like you would hear on a old door that creaks I replaced the struts with a set of quick struts and it began the creaking. I was told to replace due to a broken spring car tracks straight and doesn't wear tires but creaking has to go bought cheap struts so maybe I am learning the hard way and may have to replace

After I replaced all the crap on the suspension in the front, we found out it was the lower front control arm, the universal one you use on the right or left side. The creaking stopped after that.

I'm also curious... I have a 2010 fusion, my noise is not as pronounced as yours Scott, but I recently replaced everything on my fusion front end.. Inner and outer tie rod, sway bar links and bushings, all 3 control arms, struts (quick struts, so the compete assembly) and since I had it all torn it I put new cv axles in as well. So this on both sides. Everything is new and I still hear a noise. Maybe I'm just crazy and it's the sound of the strut compressing. The car is much smoother though!

Matt Kladder truth be told, I am still working through this. I have now replaced most of the suspension ( everything accept tie rods), most of the creaking is gone, but some still remains. The ride though is excellent and every part I replaced was in need of replacement.

I pretty much did everything you did and also had engine mount, torque mount, and rear sway bar links replaced. The darn sound is still there and getting worse. I don't know what else is left to be replaced to get rid of the sound.

Have either of you had any luck with finding the noise? I've noticed on hot days the more I drive and the hotter it is, the worse this noise is.

    • @ScottsGarage17
      @ScottsGarage17  5 років тому +2

Hi Tamila, I basically replaced everything except the tie rods. I have finally gotten rid of the noise. What it ended up being for me was the front sway bar links needing to be tightened more. I had replaced them but still had the noise but at a lower level. I took the wheels off and double checked everything. The sway bar links weren't completely tight. I found the right allen wrentch to deep the stud from turning. This did it and the noise went away. I am still chasing a rear chassis noise though. I will make a video on this. Hope this helps.
