Darryl is a spritely 73 year old now... so he would've been about 69 when he did this. Tina's 55, John is 72, Jimmy is 66 - some of the greatest artists of all time IMO. 😉
I'm British and I only listen to Australian music and have done for over 30 years, and I'm really pleased that you react to so many Aussie singers and bands. I can't believe there are so many Australian songs like Jimmy Barnes Working Class Man, a couple of songs by Hunters and Collectors, to an extent You're the Voice and obviously this one that are massive Aussie anthems that all of the audience sing along to, that hardly anybody outside of Australia has ever heard of.
Braithwaite is a true artist, when his band Sherbet disbanded in the early 80s he could have made a comfortable living by doing covers of the band's songs. He refused to do this, saying he would be selling out, and instead did manual labour jobs on construction sites and lived on a meagre income. Then almost 15 years later he made a comeback to the stage and released all new material. He then got ripped off by bad management and was broke again, but the Australian music community rallied behind him and held a fundraising concert for him, that's how much he is respected by other artists in Australia.
How many f…… parasites are around the music industry!!!!! There should be laws of protection by now that gets them locked up. That sort of greed is nothing less than evil - using the artist as their slave to feather their own pockets.
I was at that concert and I am in the footage at around 9:52 and a bit after. Fantastic concert also had John Farnham straight after and earlier was Guy Sebastian and The Veronica's. You would have loved this.
Love it or hate it, there's not an Aussie alive who wouldn't know this song. It's played in a thousand pubs by a thousand cover bands around the country every weekend.
@@dickwilliam3793 I do but sorry to say she sang it worst then him at 69 when he had lost his range.. Shss dont tell all the aussies about this lol.. I only found out about this when i moved to USA and it was blow.. Then i herd her sing it and all was forgiven .. He sings rings around her and make the sing what it is.. Dont matter sometimes who wrote a song she give him the right to do so.. With out him singing it she would got zero for it.. So cover or not we made it an Aussie Anthem.. Not going to get 10k people singing it in USA lol..
Dom - you get it mate. You nailed it at the end, it's one of those songs that really captures the spirit and mindset of Australians. It's part of our identity now just like Your the Voice, Khe Sanh and Don't Dream it's Over. It was a really special song when it came out and it has a timelessness to it that will keep it being sung and performed for many, many years to come.
That crowd singing right there... That's the Australia I know and love. That is WHO we are as a nation. Welcome to the Aussie Spirit. Once you meet it, you'll never be the same person you were before it.
Dom thanks so much for reacting to my request. This song brings back so many childhood memories and is now so generational that it is almost sacrilegious not to know this anthemic song. Daryl is an absolute legend and I love that you love and appreciate this talent amongst many other Australian legends and putting it out there for the rest of the world to see. It is just beautiful to watch you hearing our music for the first time and with such a genuine passion, that we all take for granted. Love your work Dom. Thank you.
Darryl is 73 he was in singing in Sherbet in 1969!! Sherbet was the most successful Australian pop band of the 1970s. With a run of 20 consecutive hit singles to its credit, and 17 albums that yielded ten platinum and 40 gold disc awards. His solo career was also very successful. As with John. Whenever people are in need he will volunteer for charity concerts in the blink of an eye. 🇦🇺
His voice is tired here - he's going to falsetto where a younger Daryl (yes...Bray...thwaite) would have gone mezza voce or full voice. But he is in his 70's now.
There would have to be 3 generations of people in the crowd and they are all singing along. It will be interesting to see if any of the songs released today will still be as popular and well known in 40 years time
They will be, there is always a couple of songs each year that never fade and will always be repeated. They just need timing and a moment to take a generation back to in their mind.
An Aussie Legend and iconic song, vocally not his best performance but you’ll be hard stretched to find Aussie who would really care! Aussie, Aussie,Aussie, oi, oi,oi From a bloody proud West Aussie
He was in my hometown a couple of years ago. I didn’t recognise him. Buuuuut.. I pointed him out to a friend when we were eating in the same pub…. I pointed him out ‘cause he has the grey hair I want when I finally go grey. He looked at me with such hostility I was truely taken aback. My mate explained who he was, and I felt kinda bad. I certainly had no intention to disturb him. *edit: I have very poor vision. I used to sing this when I was in high school back in the day when it first came out. Always a winner in the music room. He’s an amazing artist.
Vegemite is basically pure Vitamin B - but the trick is to have in very thinly spread on nice buttery toast. Consume while stoned and you will eat 10 slices, eat with milk to wash it down.
For me its not Vegemite its Tim Tams that keep me going mate 😉😄 Pretty much every BBQ or what you call a cookout.. After a few drinks .. Your the voice , Horses and Kai San comes out so every generation hears it 😁
Our artists look so good because every other year they're having to fundraising concerts for all the natural disasters we've been having, it helps keep them in shape. Sadly, I'm only partially joking.
Did you notice that the average age of the audience was below 25? What does this say about this artist who I’ve been listening to since I was a kid in 1976?
The only other reaction video of Dominick's that has had as many views in a similar time frame is Daryl Braithwaite - Horses (original music video) lol
In Australia we have a lot of fund raising events. We have something similar called Telethon. It is a very worthy yearly fund raising event in my home State in Perth, Western Australia. It raises money for our hospitals and sick children. We are a big State in size, about 2.64 million squared km's (roughly 1.019 million square miles), but have a small population of under 3 million. Telethon has been running since 1968 and since then has raised close to $350 million. Last years total was around $62 million. They put that into our hospital system, medical research and so much more. The event goes over 26 hours but they also fund raise during the year too. Celebrities from our Country travel to participate (sport and TV stars), and there have been many very famous overseas Stars as well. Dom you'd know some of them, as they include Michael Jackson, Harry Connick Jnr, Witney Houston, Sammy Davis Jnr, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Cliff Richards, Tina Turner and so many more. By the way in your own time perhaps check out Daryl Braithwaite from many years ago when he was in his former band, Sherbert ........Sherbert Silvery Moon 1974 Australian band featuring Daryl Brathwaite ua-cam.com/video/dHuNupyhSak/v-deo.html
Need to react to As The Days Go By and...oh, why 1 does Farnsy sing backup on again? Higher Than Hope! Great songs! As are When we were kings and his most recent track, Love Songs!
You've got to have Margret Urlich in the song. Her voice is insane. You should listen to the studio version too. Listen to this angels voice. Sadly shed passed just recently. She was a major feature of this song.
I agree with other comments. DB is a legend but his earlier voice was stronger and better to use as an introduction to those who may not know about him.
Yes, Daryl is another legend of the Oz rock scene. I've seen him numerous times. I love how artists tell the audience to stand up, especially when the managers or the security of the venue tell you that you must sit and no dancing in the aisles 😅👏👍. I know you have done a Sherbert reaction in the past, but Howzat from the 70s is one you haven't done. Oh by the way, no need for you to start eating Vegemite, because 🤷🏼♀️😘😅
Darryl was lead singer Sherbet. They were Hugh in Australia especially teen girl's. They decided to try American and changed their name to sherbs Aussie fans rejected this and was a flop in the U.S.A came back to Australia but due to them still having a sour taste in their mouth they flopped back here. The band just went on and lived a normal life. When years later Darryl made a comeback as a solo singer and took off.

I've been to a few Daryl gigs. It's not unheard of to extend the crowd sing along out to 15-20 minutes. Always good fun. 😁

They play this at the Melbourne Cup (Horse race) every year💗💗💗👏👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇺
Such a Aussie classic and definitely played everywhere and everybody can't help but sing it 👏🏼🙌🏼
His song, “Higher Than Hope” has John Farnham doing backup. The original “The Horses” had Kiwi singer Margaret Urlich as the backup singer.
"Horses" is another Aussie anthem that kids are force-fed from a young age. Got to start them off on the right path :)
