Thanks for giving me the chance to reacquaint myself with the awesome Mr Barnes. I grew up in Australia as a teen in the 70's-80's. I knew and liked Cold Chisel (as it was the band lead by Jimmy but still a group not just him) though I wasn't a huge fan, I spent many nights in the front row of a pub crowd dancing and singing to the band of the day (Radiators, Angels, Mentals etc). I love Jimmy doing stuff like this and the more Ballard type songs, not so much the heavy ones (I won't say screaming). I got the shivers though when David did that big note, with the added touch of Jimmy being so obviously a proud dad.
The same goes for John Farnham, I did love him as a singer when he and I were much younger. He did seem a bit dorky in his very young days though. Plus I was in the school choir and we had to sing his song "Raindrops are falling on your head" for a concert and I got so sick of it.
Really most of the 70/80's aussie singers were top blokes, rather down to earth and didn't really take themselves or anyone else very seriously. Jimmy and John are huge in this, they are just great guys that love to sing and do it really really well.

I believe this was Christmas Eve, 24th December, 2005. (At the Myer Music Bowl as always). Mahalia appeared as well. David Campbell was born, 6th August, 1973 and Jimmy was born 28th April, 1956. (David was born when Jimmy was 16). Sooo... in this video, David would have been aged 32 and Jimmy would have been aged 49. As at September, 2023, David is and Jimmy is 67 and David is 50. James Dixon Barnes (né Swan; born 28 April 1956) is a Scottish-born Australian rock singer. His career, both as a solo performer and as the lead vocalist with the rock band Cold Chisel, has made him one of the most popular and best-selling Australian music artists of all time. Jimmy's 4 years older brother John Archibald Dixon Swan born in 1952, also had a career in music and in the band Swanee. His well known record was Bobby Darin's 'If I Were A Carpenter'. Jimmy's was 5 years old when his family arrived in Australia in 1962. His mother Dorothy, remarried a clerk named Reg Barnes, who died on in September 2013. Jimmy adopted the name Barnes, after his stepfather. Jimmy is a practising Buddhist. He is brother-in-law to fellow musician and long-time collaborator Diesel, who married his wife Jane Barnes' sister Jep in 1989.
In November 1979, Jimmy Barnes met Jane Mahoney (born 1958 as Jane Dejakasaya in Bangkok, Thailand), the stepdaughter of an Australian diplomat. (2 years younger than Jimmy). They married in Sydney 2 years later, on 22 May 1981 and 9 years after David Campbell, Jimmy's first son was born, Jane gave birth to their first child, Mahalia, (named after American singer, Mahalia Jackson), on 12 July 1982. They have 4 children (Mahalia, born July 12, 1982 (age 40), Eliza-Jane, born December 22, 1984 (age 38), son Jackie Barnes, born, February 4, 1986 (age 37) and Elly-May, born May 3, 1989 (age 33). has cerebral palsy) youngest. He has a total of 7 children-4 with his wife Jane , one with Kim Campbell (a previous relationship-David Campbell) and in 2010, already a father to 5, Jimmy found out that he actually had 2 more daughters with 2 different women (Amanda Bennett and Megan Torzyn), who were in their mid-30s at the time. They contacted Jimmy about their paternity, leading him to take a test, confirming he was their father. Funnily enough, Amanda was born in 1973, the same year as his other son David Campbell. David Campbell was raised by his maternal grandmother, Joan, believing her to be his mother. He only found out that his ‘sister’ was his real mother when he was 10 years old and that Jimmy, whom he believed to be a 'family friend', was his father. When David was born, it was decided that Kim's mother was going to adopt David and she brought him up. Jimmy said, "I wasn't capable of doing it anyway, I was 16 and I was completely out of control," he admitted. "By the time I was ready to really be a parent, it was many, many, years later but I always knew I had a son and I would go and visit. I wasn't allowed to say I was his dad because the grandmother just wanted to protect him, I guess but it was really difficult."

I haven't seen "Carousel" and grew up hearing Jerry and The Pacemakers' version. I have never heard a woman sing it. I'd better go searching. Love your clips. You are an adorable young man. Your enthusiasm makes me want to break something.

Jerry and the Pacemakers made this song famous in the 1960's and it became the Liverpool football club anthem.
