I'd keep the heads yellow. Like you said, there's way more expression and are more common. Plus, it saves on money that can be used for buying parts for other armies/projects or buying the barding for the horses. You can always buy the new heads at a later date, but they aren't a priority.
I think keeping the yellow figures would be best. While natural skin tones would allow for more variety, you can easily show different cultures by use of clothing and accessories. Not to mention, when using colors like olive green, your characters stand out much more and adds to the contrast between your character and the less saturated background.
For the cavalry you should put spears similar to one that you already gave to other minifigures, but longer and instead of just a yellow flag, also add a black one.
I'd go with yellow heads, like you said bigger variety and less $$$. But skin tone does look great. Great techniques used to create a diverse and unique army. I've had the same issue building a small army of tournament knights as well, trying to keep the numbers of all my castle armies down to keep them scaled similarly.
Wow, hat army is HUGE now! I personally would definitely stick to yellow heads, not just because I think they look better but also there's so much more types. (though some of the ones from Prince of Persia could work great I think). And the MOC is really cool too, I love the colors. It would be really nice to have a Raven Knight included in next years Market set, but that's really unlikely :(
That would be awesome to see in the market but I think we will see the dragon knights instead ( the ones we saw in the magisto promo.) Which are my least fav. Dragon faction..

For inspiration the smallest Disney wish set I think could be good inspiration for a Raven or even Orcish settlement as it feels like something from the Middle East as well. Now the elephant in the room…do I think you should switch to realistic skin tones, well while I really like the verity of yellow, I also like the diversity of realistic skin tones!, I have seen people put POC heads along side yellow without basic flesh tan but idk if never liked that way of doing it. Though with the hairstyle you chose for the people of the Bone iles I think (?) they were meant to be people of darker skin forgive me if I’m wrong. Though they also seem to be Celtic inspired! But yes I think switching to realistic would be a good choice!, but that’s just my opinion:)
My largest Lego castle army is four guys lol. But that’s fine for me I just love this so much! I think the cavalry should use long spears or axes. I think the axes fit the black ravens. Also making custom long axes is easy because axe parts are somewhat common in sets.
I‘d love to have have such an great army with all these insane locking custom elements, great job . A lore video with Mocs about the campaign against the black falcons would be amazing!
I could see you go either way on the head color, but I love the trees. It reminds me of birch trees in real life, bit also a weirwood tree from Game of Thrones.
Your Black Raven army looks amazing. Really beautiful work. Well done! I do have one of the original Tourney Knight CMFs. I can't afford an army... However, I make what I call a "Delegation" for LEGO series that I missed, and have to go back and buy third market. I try to get a 3-5 member group together that represents the major types of characters from that line. So I'd try to get a major character/leader (like the king, queen, or hero knight), then a basic knight (swordsman), an archer (or bow/crossbow), and then a basic infantryman (spearman or guard), for the Fantasy Era, I'd try to get the faction's wizard too. So I got three each Lion Knights, Dwarves, Orcs, Crown Knights, etc. Anyway, I already got one Raven CMF... I could probably get afford another, then MOC a knight with PDG Plate Armor to hide a plain torso as you have for you cavalry... Something like that, I suppose. I'll think about it. Thanks for the ideas. P.S. Stick with yellow heads.

I understand your love for the figure! It's my favourite CMF figure. Such a great figure. Im not a very hardcore lego collector so I feel lucky to have gotten one from a bag back when they were sold in store. Great army and idea!
If you use a lance and spear, you can connect them with a technic pin. It scales much better to cavalry than the lance alone. I also recommend either ninjago sabers or kopeshes for sidearms. I have switched entirely from the single-piece Dane axes to the brown shaft with separate ax head. You can also use either light saber blades or shoto saber blades for battle ax and throwing ax builds using the same ax head. I prefer yellow heads, but flesh tones can enable ethnic visual distinction. My biggest problem is that there isn't a good balaclava head in flesh colors (meaning the right color and style of balaclava). All I can use is the old Life on Mars balaclava head. If you don't have similar issues, then Star Wars sets are probably the best source of heads, parts for stone buildings, and alternative medieval-ish body parts (outside of targeted brick link orders, of course). You might get more mileage out of Mando and Knights of Ren sets than others. I've been considering using mandolorian minifigs as a medieval faction instead of space. They make for a nice Crusader-style faction with the wide variety of colors and the helmet design. The pavises look good. For the light crossbowmen, you might look at a micro build that holds a couple of spears at an angle, something that each guy could carry and drop in front of himself to ward off cavalry (like the longbowmen at agincourt). It would give them a little something extra while keeping them more distinct from the arbalest-and-pavise guys. Horses don't like camels much (I think it's the smell). Training can overcome that, but you might look at getting a few more camels and dividing your cavalry. Given the moorish inspiration, maybe turn the horsemen into archers and keep the camelry as lancers. That can save you from having to acquire barding for the horses, too. If you decide to take the advice of another commenter and draw inspiration from the varangians, the spectacle helm is a great choice to set that unit apart from the rest of the army. The character of that unit was explicitly a foreign guard and mercenary heavy infantry corps (in part to keep them out of politics because nobody would stand for barbarians interfering). This might be a good place for orc auxiliaries.
Oh my goodness, great analysis as always! It must of slipped my mind that lego made a Khopesh piece. That would be perfect for some of the cavalry. I'd love to grab a few more camels (one in regular tan would be nice) but they are harder to come by then horses. I think the varangian inspiration would be great for kings guard/watchmen type characters.
3:44 for some more inspiration I recommend looking at the Kieran Rus, in particular the Varangian guard of the Byzantine empire, who were northern warriors employed as an elite guard by the Byzantine (eastern Roman) emperors
I would think a suitable choice of weaponry for the Ravens would be scimitars. Curved blades (one or even zweihander) for the infantry and halberds with curved blade heads for the Calvary. You can even give curved daggers (like the p.o.p one) as a light melee option for the range units! Imo the curve really represents the Raven's wings and the tips look just like their beaks/talons. Its also on flavor with the desert theme!
I've been looking forward to this video for a while! This raven army is just a work of art. I love all the detail and the lore you've packed into this, and you've seriously become a massive inspiration for me creating my own medival mocs/lore. Your video about the peasant town and how you did so much just working with what you have personally inspired my own Raven Knight lore. I only was able to pick up 2 while series 20 was on shelves, bc of covid, but I just made that a part of my lore. I have the Raven Knights not being a faction, but being 2 mercenary brothers who are the most skilled warriors in my lore. The fact that I don't have a lot of these just makes my world more creative and unique. Thanks for putting out all these awesome videos, I always enjoy them so much!
YES!!! working with your parts/minifigs limitations can often create a more interesting story because you have to put more thought into it rather than just slapping some figs down on a baseplate. Thank you so much for this lovely comment and i hope your enjoy your medieval MOC/lore building journey as much as i have.
Should give the Calvary some lances with the factions flags on them. Swords/maces on the barding when you add that! Love your videos! I’d stick with yellow heads, it’s affordable and reminds me of classic castle!!
Awesome stuff man! super jealous!. as far as fancy weapons go I like the ''machete polearm''. where you use a standard stick/staff/bar a handle piece and a machete on top. personally i don't like that the machete handle shows but one can cover it up with one of the round 1x1 studs that have a hole through the middle of em ( i don't know the technical terms but i'm sure you'll know what i mean)
As a suggestion for the cavalry: you could use heavy axes, what I mean is giving them the staff piece with just the sole axe piece clipped onto it. I use that weapon for my cavalry and it looks awesome(in my opinion at least) Edit: you could use the lord garmadon helmet for your army too it looks pretty cool and is quite unique
For the heavy cavalry i think a long scythe of sorts would be cool. It wouldn’t make any sense practically speaking but it would definitely look sick and be very unique.
The cloth bardings on bricksticker are just adoreable. love em. If you dont`t mind stickers on your minifigs, they also have the black raven torso sticker ;)
I see a lot of videos about Lego city building. I think it would be cool if you followed your maps you’ve made and create the kingdoms or a MOC of the whole kingdom with like update videos or videos documenting each kingdom’s creation. That would be so cool, and then having like a movie of the whole building process at the end of the project! Love your videos bro!
The reason that the Uruk hai sword is still available is because now it is commonly used in sets, ex. The black panther dragon fly ship, there are 4 pieces included
The contrast of real skin tones with the yellow armor is 100% worth it. I started with yellow heads in my own collection and tried to go down that line and really wasn’t feeling it. The moment I switched to realistic skin tones I fell in love, it makes the world feel more diverse and real. You can use the yellow heads with the fawn horns and make an entirely new race, that’s my plan for my yellow heads/torsos. Also it lets you use minifig yellow as a color more reliably. It does really suck to lose the queen’s face though, I have that head too and was sad to not use it
Yeah the realistic tones really work so much better with the ravens. Lion knights & Forestmen look great in yellow but I think the falcons and ravens look much nicer with skin tone heads.
A neet weapon you could use is the Fijian totokia war club, it's what the Tuskin Raiders' weapons are bassed on and I think it suits the desert theme really well
That torso from skylor would be so perfect for a raven queen! Also, you should add some pirates to your world, but lean more to the fantasy side with them, sort of like Pirates of the Caribbean.
Man love your vids and i personally would keep the yellow heads, there the lego original heads and they have like this nostalgic vibe for me. But that is my opinion. Keep making these vids and love your siegetower moc!
If you are going for Arabic look what about giving your cavalry sabres? Another idea I have is giving them spears, but not as a melee weapon, but as a throwable weapon instead, that could suit the viking aesthetic a little bit more (although vikings didn't really use cavalry ;)
Love your vids About the Black Falcons: I think the colur silver works way better on them than dark metallic bec it matches with the torso and the logo. Therefore you have to switch the arms with silver ones and black hands. For the legs there are 2 options you can use the darkgrey-black ones or you go in brickling were you can find silver ones I would recommend to try it
Maybe give the cavalry broad sabers from ninjago to continue the idea of the oriental influence. But homemade lances would also be cool for knocking opponents off their horses. Ax swords could also be cool. Or double-sided ax-hammer hybrids. In any case, I think your ideas are great.
As always another epic video brother, I love how you have the different classes and always awesome back story too. One day I’ll hopefully have a army like that so we can double up on the orc armies. Great job man, I can’t wait to see the next video. 👍
The MOC you made of the Raven Knights marching into battle could be modified so that they're marching through the forest instead, with some kind of creature lurking in the trees or the bushes, waiting to strike at any unsuspecting passersby, possibly even including the Raven Knights themselves, perhaps.
I love giving my Cavalry spears and when the horses have armor you can put two more spears on the side of the horse. That way they can throw the spears or if they get “stuck” on enemy soldiers they can pull an extra spear off the horse’s side
I know It's a bit late but you should give the heavy cavalry some very long pikes, like a Winged Hussars idea something you can use to break square formations
if you are going middle east fusion, you should make a castle/chariot fusion. The reason is that the word rook is derived from the Persian term for 'chariot' when chess crossed over from the middle east to Europe. Rooks are also corvids so would fit the theme in an extra way.
For the Heavy Cavallry guys i would use only long cavallry lances or a mish mash of long one handed Swords/Maces/Axes and warhammers (Last would be the a good weapon of choice for the First of the troop. There is a Type of warhammer called "Bec de Corbin" or in english "Raven's Beak".
Suggestion: Swap the helmets between og knights and the horsemen. The great helms are more of a heavy knightly cavalry helmet. Also the open faced barbute style helmets would give the infantry better visibility and ability to breath better (both are more important when fighting on foot rather than on a horse. This would just give a more realistic or historical look. Or I'd suggest at least swapping a couple helmets to lessen the uniformity, which wasn't really a thing in medieval armies. Also give the horsemen lances, maybe one handed maces or swords. A mace can be made by putting a 3647 gear piece at the end of a stick
I know that I’m a couple days late but about upgrading your raven king, I’d recommend using the conquistador body with a gold helmet- looks fantastic for the raven knights..with the right accessories..
heavy cavalry ALLWAYS carry lances. Swords, maces, axes are just backup weapons for when they broke/lost the lance. In that regard you should make your master engineer more some kind of quartermaster. And one of his main concerns during battle is to provision new lances to your cavalry and arrows to your bow men. therefore he is responsible for your wagon train which incudes also your siege engins. Anyways, good work
Goldfyre I suggest for this army that you use the hufflepuff quidditch torso as it matches the colour scheme and could fit in well a set that it comes in is set 76416. Anyway keep up the great work
Yeah i've seem this torso before and it looks great but sadly the color is regular yellow so it's not quite right imo. I really like the quidditch Slytherin torso for a custom green snake faction tho
I think I use a short sword on the side of the saddle, and on the other side of the saddle the raven knight shield, and then for their main weapon, I would choose a long spear, and maybe individually for one of the cavalry men I’d give them a trumpet😂
I'm sure you already found your weapons for your Heavy Knights Cav. But Heavy Lancers sound cool. Maybe with a Mix O' Horse Crossbowmen since Crossbows are Heavier.
The army's looking good! There is a time in history where vikings were in a more middle eastern setting, funnily enough! Those would be the Varangians (from which the Varangian guard comes from in the Byzantine empire), you could definitely look that up for some inspiration! Glad to see some cheeky pavise shields being used as well for the heavy crossbowmen! I've always liked to use the little wand and clip technique for them, it just makes them sit right. If you want some recommendations for weapons for cavalry, aside from the usual lances, you could try and get yourself either some scimitar pieces in black, or if not you could try some one-handed axes and hammers made with the little ice skate piece on a stud with a bar connected to the one bifurcating bar holder piece, they work well for cavalry from experience. If you want to sell the idea of being more eastern inspired, I'd definitely recommend sabers, since cavalry sabers were widely used by middle eastern cavalry, couple that with a plain silver round shield with a little dish piece, I think it could look quite good! I also recommend spears or lances for the cavalry, have the sabers sitting on the clip of the saddle for a backup, that way it'll feel like your cavalry does have a more complete equipment! Plain lances work well, but you can also make your own with a spear, a dish piece, a cone piece and a handle piece, with a little clip and bar piece so you can hold it like the regular lego lance! Glad to see your army grow! I hope you manage to get some more things going for it as well!
They are the Vandals, not the Varangian. The Varangian were the elite guard unit of the Byzantine Emperor and they were from Rus' States, are the vandals who colonize and made settlements and kingdoms in the North Africans Sultanates. Apart from that I agree with him, your army reminds me a lot of vandals too and delving into them for a moment would be a great addition to improve the faction
@@SoHanged You are correct! I actually forgot about the Vandals entirely, I was referring to the Varangians since it's the closest I've seen vikings near the middle east (albeit I know the Byzantine empire wasn't *exactly* what people think of when we talk about the middle east, technically they did have territory in the middle east). But yeah! Vandals are a great idea to draw inspiration from.
Awesome Video! About the heads though, I'd stick to the yellow heads... I don't usually seperate them much, in my collection and displays you'll see both yellow and realistic skins all around and mixed up, but I think that keeping the yellow tone helps a little more getting the Lego aesthetic accross, though I will admit it looks kinda funky with the knights' attire being yellow as well, but I wouldn't mind it.
For my armies I keep the heads mostly yellow, but still have some flesh tones mixed in, my thought process is that the yellow heads are their own ethnic group, along with the normal ones from earth. Since my Lego worldbuilding is fantasy leaning I have all sorts of “races”, hence I have a reason to use the green, cyan, red, and other colored heads mixed in. Their all variants of human races, or their own fantasy race.
Hello there my friend! :D How are you? Also I loved these minifigures you have and the army! :D Will you be doing your bone Island thing soon but also the Red People soon as well? I can't wait for you to tell me! Also what else will you be doing army wise for your Medieval universe? By chance I love the idea of the Club idea! Also I have a suggestion maybe for another army if it's ok to ask? Could you by chance add a Zombie Faction by chance? Like imagine a commander Zombie or King one but also other Undead ones as well of Zombies and other creatures as well! :D And they'd have unique weapons as well. Imagine if they had the Skeleton weapons or possibly even custom weapons that are unique only to their faction! I hope you love my idea dude and will do it!
I'd keep the heads yellow. Like you said, there's way more expression and are more common. Plus, it saves on money that can be used for buying parts for other armies/projects or buying the barding for the horses. You can always buy the new heads at a later date, but they aren't a priority.

He’s best at designing leaders honestly

Personally i keep the yellow heads, it isn't real life and i like that everyone has the same cartoonish skin colour
Fair! the classic yellow is classic for a reason
This is my favorite fraction😊
Great ideas for variety. Your army doesn't look like a clone army. It looks very nice. Greetings from Poland👍👍👍
I think spears would work well for the cavalry! Halbards are always an option though.
As a suggestion for the cavalry: you could use heavy axes, what I mean is giving them the staff piece with just the sole axe piece clipped onto it. I use that weapon for my cavalry and it looks awesome(in my opinion at least)
Edit: you could use the lord garmadon helmet for your army too it looks pretty cool and is quite unique
For the heavy cavalry i think a long scythe of sorts would be cool. It wouldn’t make any sense practically speaking but it would definitely look sick and be very unique.
really cool idea!
This is a amazing army!
Great video my friend! Good luck finding missing pieces, your army is very impressive! Best faction of 'em all!
The cloth bardings on bricksticker are just adoreable. love em. If you dont`t mind stickers on your minifigs, they also have the black raven torso sticker ;)
Giving scimitars to the cavalry would slap hard honestly
for your heavy cavalry you should do spears but have swords hooked on to the saddles of the horses
I think lances on the cavalry could be cool
Maybe use a spear piece with yellow and black flag pieces at the end
I love the orcs, you should add them to your army.
This is a really nice army I am currently making a samurai army!
Ahhh i didn't realize that
Idea for the heavy cav weapons maybe war hammers? or if that's too expensive maybe spears with a little brick built handle
I think with the cavalry, you should give them lances because it just makes sense for cavalry.
I'm honestly afraid to get into LEGO pirates for my wallets sake lol
@@Goldfyre i feel that😫😫😫
You should make a lore map for your world and add country borders and everything
I really think you should keep the heads in yellow!! It just helps to keep the essence of play and lego in my opinion, looks just too good!! Hahahah
For the Calvary you could use halberds if you haven’t already.
Man love your vids and i personally would keep the yellow heads, there the lego original heads and they have like this nostalgic vibe for me. But that is my opinion. Keep making these vids and love your siegetower moc!
always cool to watch a new video of yours
If you are going for Arabic look what about giving your cavalry sabres? Another idea I have is giving them spears, but not as a melee weapon, but as a throwable weapon instead, that could suit the viking aesthetic a little bit more (although vikings didn't really use cavalry ;)
Oooh, giving them javelins would be pretty cool. I second this!
Love your vids
About the Black Falcons:
I think the colur silver works way better on them than dark metallic bec it matches with the torso and the logo.
Therefore you have to switch the arms with silver ones and black hands. For the legs there are 2 options you can use the darkgrey-black ones or you go in brickling were you can find silver ones
I would recommend to try it
I’ve been thinking about starting to build castle armies, this is a very good video, so thanks
Glad to hear it! Black falcons are a great start for castle army building btw
Get pikes for the cavalry, people remember the winged hussars because they out-piked pike formations
If you give the cavalry something similar to the banner but with a spear on the end then that would be pretty cool
I love the expression of Yellow Heads
i agree i think realistic heads are probably better but great video mate keep it going
Your army is massive
As always another epic video brother, I love how you have the different classes and always awesome back story too. One day I’ll hopefully have a army like that so we can double up on the orc armies. Great job man, I can’t wait to see the next video. 👍
We want lore video for the ravens
More will be coming :)
@@Goldfyre thank you
The MOC you made of the Raven Knights marching into battle could be modified so that they're marching through the forest instead, with some kind of creature lurking in the trees or the bushes, waiting to strike at any unsuspecting passersby, possibly even including the Raven Knights themselves, perhaps.
New Dune Ornothopter armor pieces may fit well for unique or important charactes for Medieval customs
Also give them Heavy Cavaliers Lances
Suggestion:
Swap the helmets between og knights and the horsemen.
Great points tbh.
I know that I’m a couple days late but about upgrading your raven king, I’d recommend using the conquistador body with a gold helmet- looks fantastic for the raven knights..with the right accessories..
really great idea! I might try the breastplate from that fig for him
I think for the guys on horses halberds would work really well
For weapons for horse army you can use dark metalic spear
And you can make it longer with lightcyber
heavy cavalry ALLWAYS carry lances. Anyways, good work
I think halberds would suit the heavy calvalry nicely but they don’t seem to be a feesible weapon for a horseman
For the cavalry their weapons i should gif a longspear, just a regular spear but with a lightsaber piece underneath it.
Give your siege engineer a batman belt the brown one to give it more of a crafty personality look
They should have a secondary weapon option like their leader of a long pointy stick in case they want to scewer anyone
Dude amazing! Love it!
Awesome
Lances would be the perfect weapon to arm your cav, though custom built warhammers and waraxes which were used by cav would look rll cool.
Yeah the only issue with the ravens is that the yellow heads tend to blend in a bit with their armor
you could make a long mace by using a long stick piece with a small technic gear
@Goldfyre you should use some long spear for your heavy cavalery
Think you should use long spears or some sort of long weapon.
