I met Bill Withers once and told him "Ain't no sunshine" isn't proper grammar. He said, "I know, I know, I know I know, I know, I know, I know, I know."
😂😂😂😂😂
😂
😂✌🏻
"Use me" "Lean On Me" "Grandma's Hands" and so many other great songs. Bill Withers is one of our National Treasures. RIP.
I second that: "Grandma's Hands", "Use Me"; "Who Is He", "Kissing My Love", Lonely Town, Lonely Street"…
Grandma's Hands is a wondeful, touching song!
Yes he is! I wish he were still here with his heartfelt soulful songs, so uplifting! ❤️
Grandma’s hands is a beautiful song.
Right On! Mad props for Bill❤
60's and 70's best music created, ever. I was there.
2nd THAT ! ME TOO !
I was there too, but I didn't stop listening to new music like you chumps, so I still hear great new music and you don't
@@xmathmanxI was there too and I listened till the 90s and now I listen again. You can always find good music.
"Every generation throws a hero up the pop charts." - Paul Simon.
Hmmm...appears we have a gathering of the "maturing people." Age 70 here, pleased to see the kids enjoying themselves with "our tunes."
Unity is needed, yes?
Lovely Day by Bill Withers is a gorgeous song
Another forever playlist song . Makes me instantly happy
Bill Withers showed up in our lives one day and dropped some of the most genius music of all time. Then he just decided to retire from the music industry and public life in 1985. When he passed away in 2004, even though he was no longer in the public eye, it really hurt my heart. I always hope that the last 20 years of his life were happy and that he experienced as much joy as he shared with us through his music.
Well said, amen.
"Use me" was his Masterpiece ! R.I.P. Bill Withers
You should check out Teddy Swims cover, it's really good :)
@@Grimlock1975 yes, thank you 👍
Yes great song!!!
Keep on using me, until you use me up! Would Love to see more Bill Withers played! Please! ❤️
For as simple as the drums are on that tune, it's freeking impossible to nail. At least for me. The feel is WAY out there.
I think he started at 34 years old. No instrument or music background, wrote some if the greatest songs in existence. 'Use Me' is fire. Ex military and from a tiny coal mining town the guy has the most unlikely story of any genius in music history.
I use to travel through his hometown in WV each weekday during my truck route. They’re still proud to claim him to this day.
I'm from a little coal town about 5 mile as the crow flies from where he used to live. He and my Dad were friends. When his first song started to be played I asked my Dad if he knew him and my Dad said little guy from Slab Fork? Then he called him by another name laughed, "yeah I know him". I wish I could remember the name he said at first. It would have to been nice to know he nickname.
One of the BEST DAMNED SONGS I ever heard. Everytime I listen, my eyes close and I go somewhere else.
Me too. His music puts me at such ease.
I love this song too!
Drift Away by Dobie Grey is a song that takes me to another place.
@@tpatt525_Tiff_ I'm gonna check it out right now. ❤
@@NessyNess182 let me know what you think.
@@tpatt525_Tiff_ OMG I haven't heard this in YEEEEEARZ!!!!! Cheers to you, got it on REPEAT. 🥲
Incredibly soulful voice! I love “Just the Two of Us” and “Lovely Day” Nice one BP! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
The 60s and early 70s was when creativity, uniqueness, innovation, and experimentation in music was at its height.
Smoothest singer of all time. Just an incredible voice
You have to see the documentary on him..his daughter is apparently also an artist.
Bill Withers left the industry at the height of his career to raise his kids, because performing took him away from home…a real family man.
Grandma’s Hands is also another amazing song of his.
Everyday you remind me how lucky I was to grow up with REAL music ...
"Just the two of us" was always one of my favorites. :)
When my daughter went away to university- I sang this song to myself a lot.
That drummer has to be the most laid back MF in HISTORY
1972 Grammy for Best R & B. He was inspired to write the song after watching the film Days of Wine and Roses. "Sometimes you miss things that weren’t particularly good for you."
Met Bill once, I said Bill there is no sunshine today. He said "I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
OMG, I've got a baby sister named "Sunshine" after this song!!!!🎶🎵 My late Dad insisted, he wouldn't have it any other way! Lol.😂
Oh my goodness, what a great name. 😊
@@angelamacelli9150 Wish I would have gotten a cool name, too!! But she's heard it ALL with that one.🙄
Bill Withers was a Navy veteran and I understand that when he was a civilian again he thought he could make music and become a recording artist. So, he went out and did it. Amazing perseverance, talent and luck. He drew upon simple themes of love and positivity, family, and good vibes. I love his catalog of music, with Ain't No Sunshine being my favorite. But, Lean on me, Use me, and Lovely Day being close behind. Fifty plus years later you can still hear him on the radio and in commercials. RIP Bill.
His music has been a staple of my listening since the 70s . Everything he sang was gorge
The studio version has some string accompaniment, sounds even more beautiful than this live version, and this version is fire...
My favorite ever, I love him and this song. And isn’t that drummer just the epitome of cool? 😎. RIP Bill Withers
His song called Grandma's Hands is so stunning. It's just perfection. There is a documentary about him. I highly recommend it. He did not take anyone's BS. He was his own man and did not allow anyone to mess with him. Pure soul.
So many great artists needed day jobs until they got recognized. Artists that got discovered in their 30s include Thelma Houston, Debby Harry, Sheryl Crow, Bill Withers, and Andrea Boccelli. Susan Boyle was 47 when she appeared on Britain's Got Talent.
Man, you have to know Bill Withers. He's a true legend. Not only that, a great man.
Bill Withers "Grandma's Hands"
This song gives me chills and I have no idea why ❤
I adore Bill Withers, saw him in San Francisco back in the mid 70's. There are so many great songs by Bill, Grandmas Hands, Lovely Day, Lean On Me, Just The Two Of Us to name a few.
Thanks for the memories❤️👍
Try “GRAND’MA’S HANDS” by Bill Withers!! I cry when I hear him sing that! Makes me feel my Grandma again. ♥️♥️♥️
one of the most beautiful songs.
The composition of this live performance was so good!
And his voice is legendary!
Bill Withers has a unique soulfull voice and this minimalistic sound track makes this is a great song. It puts the emphasis on Bill's voice.
** "Ain't No Sunshine" can be heard in the movie, "Notting Hill" with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. Love it when old songs are used in movies, they get a second life that way with a new audience.
One of my fave recordings ever. And yes, this is his original song
This is the ultimate lounge music that could just go on forever and you'd still be upset when it ended. What a great legend! And let's give a shout out to the back up musicians! I absolutely love this one.
Grew up on his music. Little white girl in New Mexico. I was music savvy from a young age, having swiped my 8 years older brothers records. ( Pink Floyd, Yes, Airplane, Tull, Hendrix etc) so I adored this an Lean on Me. Hot Albuquerque summer nights, man...❤
Grandma's hands by Bill Withers
No hand like a grandma's hand.
PLAYA,PLAYA, blue collar in that voice. Like a family member at house party
"Just the Two of Us" my person favourite
He is, in my opinion, the most underrated artist of his time. BRILLIANT!
R.I.P. Bill. Such great memories.❤
Yes, Bill Withers wrote this song and a couple of other bangers
Love me some Bill Withers!! One of my favorite songs by him is Lovely Day! TWDY also sampled it on Player's holiday! Next on the list should be some Otis Redding! ❤
Yes!! Otis please!😊
holy crap i've been binging your reaction videos for over 3 hours - no wonder my cats are circling the wagons! love this one. puts me in the mind to hear Papa Was a Rolling Stone. there's a fun 'live' version with some cuts from Soul Train - check it out!
One of the best songs of the 70s
RIP Bill and thank you for all the beautiful songs you gave us.
This is my all time favorite song by Bill Withers!!!!
Like so many people my age... we lived through the best years of talent in music." Poetry in Motion". Hope music makes a comeback.
I guess Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Scott Joplin, Count Basie, etc. doesn't count? Everyone thinks their era was the best. It's just ego.
Bill Withers is an icon. Absolutely amazing!
There's a young guitarist named Marcin who plays this song on an acoustic guitar....so worth a listen!
I saw him in concert in 1972, Fargo ND. He really does sound the beautiful!
Bill Withers! ❤ so smooth & funky at the same time❣️
Lean on Me and Use Me are both fire! 🔥🔥
I love this song, love Ziggy Marley doing it the best but this is great too!❤
I Can't Write Left Handed , Grandmas Hands , Use Me ...are all great Bill Withers songs to check out.
Bill Withers had such a rich smooth tone. What a wonderful voice.
I love this song!
Use me, lean on me, lovely day, ain’t no sunshine, just the two of us, grandmas hands. Man’s a fucking GOAT
Pure talent, no electronics cleaning anything up.
He was born in Slab Fork, WV but raised by his mother's family in nearby Beckley so he was very familiar with Grandma's Hands!
I love love love this song
I saw him in concert and he was awesome!! When I was 13 years old at the Louisiana State Fair in 1973!!❤
Rarely, nothing beats the original. Might be my favorite male vocalist ever.
I love me some Bill Withers❤
Please react to Lovely Day by Bill. It's my favourite song ever!❤
Bill Withers songs all ways rip my soul out. Especially this song as it makes me think of my lady who passed after being together for 3 years.
When I’m having a lousy, crappy day I snuggle under my covers and listen to Bill Withers to wallow a bit then get out of my funk. Works like a charm.😊
When reactors see artist from before the 80s remember there wasn’t any air conditioning. 🌻
One of greatest voice is so smooth
From an old 70s rocker this song is friggin awesome. That late 69s early 70s r and b was fantastic.
Love him. other good ones, Lean on me and Grandma's hands
Always loved this song and that voice! ❤
My all time favorite song 😭
Love this so much. Sure takes me back.
I knew "Lean on Me" as a 9 year old child in the early 70s and loved it because it was played on German radio.
Bill Weathers is from Slab Fork , WV . He's one of my state's treasures.
Simple amazing talent! I loved all his music. Love your appreciation of him!
I realize by coming to your channel how fortunate I am to have been blessed with music in my life. I keep going ohh I have heard that. Oh that song. I haven't thought of that song in years. It's a wonderful feeling and watching you grow as you go just adds to that feeling. May you be blessed with music for decades to come.
one of my all time favorite songs!
Oohhh, nice. I was raised on this. Sixties seventies and eighties music. There’s nothing like it. I’m so glad that you’re reacting to this one. Isn’t this song beautiful?
This song is damned smooooooooth......
I was 12 when this came out and I fell in love with it day one. This is a great video of Bill and band, they play a bunch of songs.
This and "Use me" might be the best pair of songs by any artist ever. Sounds like a man who didn't expect to spend his entire life singing.
Bill was amazing. Loved him. You gotta hear Lovely Day ❤
Simple and classy
Amazing voice.
He's from a little town in Wv called Slab Fork. I'm from the area and was through there twice today. The local town (Beckley) he spent a big part of his life in is on the process of making a memorial for him.
One of my favorite songs of all time.
You can NEVER hear too much Bill Withers! 😎
My Dad sang this to me as I was getting in my car after visiting him. My parents were divorced since I was a baby. I missed him so much. Still miss him in heaven.
always liked this song!
Mesmerizing & SMOOOOOTH!! 🥰🥰🥰
Hi! I didn`t know the history of this man. I just knew this beautyfull song!
One of the best!
One of my favorite songs of all time! I've worked hard to be able to sing this song respectively at open mic nights. Love that you reacted to this! ❤
Give a listen to Lovely Day and Grandma's Hands. Whew.
So many times I hear music through you for the first time. Reacting with you ,so cool, I am a 59yr old grandma ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
His music was all over the radio stations in the early 70s.
Beautiful guitar and drums too
I never tire of his songs. He was HUGE in Europe, especially where lived in Amsterdam (1980s). My favourite was Lean on Me, but in NL every one, young and old, sang Use Me in every bar. Live music was everywhere then. Miss those times…Grandma’s Hands is a masterpiece.
