Its actually pronounced Crow-chee...But Omg!!! I love this so much!! Jim Croce is 1 of my all time favorite song writers!!! Please do more music from this era! This is the kind of music my parents listened to while growing up, and it's definitely something u could just put on and listen to with the fam! Much love Boyz! 🫶
I’ve never seen this video, but it doesn’t belong with this incredible song!! The moment we heard of his death is seared in my mind. We were juniors in high school and were on our way to school when the announcement came over the a.m. radio in the car. It was crushing.
Same!! Married in ‘75 - played this at our wedding. Still makes me cry whenever I hear it. Wish we could live all our years again. One line still makes me smile “I’ve looked around enough to know that you’re the one I want to go through time with” we weren’t even 20.
"...but there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do once you find them..." Considering that he was killed shortly after it was recorded, this is one of the most profoundly sad lines in music, to me.
Just as sad as the first line of Free Bird .... If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me? The Lynyrd Skynyrd memorial in Magnolia, Mississippi, it amazing!
Jim Croce was simply amazing and I'm so happy his music is being heard by newer generations. May I suggest these Croce classics "Operator", "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" and of course "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" some of my favorites after "Time in a Bottle". Thank you for reacting to this timeless classic.
"Operator" has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. However, I don't think young people today would even get it. You'd have to at least explain pay phones first. "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" is another one of my favs.
Matchless songwriter -- he did profound ("Time in a Bottle", "Operator", "I Got a Name") and he did fun as hell ("Bad Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues"). Total genius.
His son AJ was just shy of 2 years old. Jim was 30 years old. AJ is touring singing his father's songs 🎵By the time Jim ( pronounced Crow- chee) graduated from Villanova University in 1965, with a degree in psychology, his photographic memory had helped him have as many as 2500 songs at his fingertips.
Croce was awesome. It's better to watch him Live though. The bad graphics just take attention away from the lyrics. After listening to your conversation afterward, I would highly recommend Harry Chapin's Cat's In The Cradle. As dads, it will really hit you hard.
Actually if you are going to do Harry Chapin there are some others besides his most popular Cats in the Cradle. I would recommend Roses are Red, Why Do the Little Girls, he also has a lot of interesting relationship songs. Harry painted pictures and told stories with many of his songs. His use of phrases and words will blow your mind in songs like Sniper and There Only Was One Choice.
Exactly what I was thinking! Not only terribly distracting visuals doing their best to ruin the lyrics(notice there were NO comments on the lyrics midstream), but that Cat's in the Cradle was perfectly appropriate to what these guys were talking about. Actually much more appropriate than the lyrics of this song, as this song was not directed toward progeny and what it means, but Chapin's was.
Jim Croce was and is a treasure. When Ren asked what songs he should do, I suggested Jim's "I got a name." You would appreciate that song, too. Thank you for this..❤
Jim Croce died on my 8th birthday, Sept. 20, 1973, in Natchitoches, LA. He had just finished playing his last show at NSU and wanted to get home. The plane clipped a pecan tree at the end of the runway killing all onboard. Just imagine what he could have accomplished if he hadn't died so young.
Croce is one of the singer/songwriters from the 1970's. It was an amazing time for music! Jim not only did very popular ballads, but also had some very funny songs: "Roller Derby Queen", "Don't Mess Around with Jim". He was taken too soon.
Another great talent that left us too soon. His son, now a musician, refused to play this song for many years because he didn't want to be thought of only as his father's son. But he now includes it in every show as a tribute to his father. I was in high school when this was released. He composed a lot of great songs in his 30 years. His catalog is well worth a listen. A true story teller.
So good. I’ve cried to some Jim Croce for sure. One of my uncles played the song operator on guitar and sang it perfectly he’s who got me into jim Croce. Such a real soul
As a songwriter, Croce's lyrics, regardless of which song, always find a way to tap into one's emotions. He does have a son, AJ, who has his own unique style of music; I hope you can tap into him sometime, too. Jim's musical partner, Maury Muehleisen was an accomplished guitarist in his own right; the two were friends and played together for several years. Both were killed in that plane crash. Their candle had only begun to light and was extinguished way too soon.
His name is pronounced Jim Crow-che. He died September 20, 1973 and the album Time in a Bottle with this song debuted on December 1, 1973. This was his breakout album so though he was popular he hadnt hit it big before this. Its now 50 years later and people are still discovering his greatness.
I was 12-13 when this song came out, we were doing a play in HS and we used this song in it, it’s in my heart. Btw I do believe in love at first sight! My husband and I were crazy about each other immediately, engage 6 weeks after our first date, married 6 months later. We will be celebrating 46 years in Feb. Time in a bottle, many precious years with the kids, and hard financial times, we made it back and now grandparents. This Meemaw is one happy soul I feel so blessed to have spent my time with this man I love and many years growing that love. Physical health is a challenge now , but we are still doing it together. I love Jim Croce, very much a talented man and insight to love.
Being 62 I was there when Jim Croce was starting to be all over the radio. His songs are so good, lyrically and musically. The way he plucks the guitar... magic. Many are humorous as well as the heart felt ones. Such a tragic loss to all of us.
I graduated from H.S. in 1974. This was chosen as our class song, both in memory of Jim and as a means to stay together as a “family”. I’m now 67 years young, and still I get emotional when I listen to not just this, but many of Jim’s songs.
This song was my wedding song in 1974! Still happily married! The 70’s was the best time to live! Marriage is a friendship where you look at life through each others eyes!
When I was a kid and we went to any amusement type place, the dodgem cars always played Bad Bad Leroy Brown - as my brother always did his best to run into other cars.
His wife explained. They had a slight falling out. Jim was constantly on the road. Not making much of anything. She knew how much it meant but felt alone and was worried about where things were going. He left the bedroom where they were talking. He returned in the morning saying how so sorry he was She said he looked tired & upset. He said I wrote a song for us, & he played it as her tears fell. She later opened a restaurant called Thyme in a bottle. Nobody should apologize for shedding tears to this breathtaking moment.
I visited Jim's grave in November. Its so surreal to stand at the foot of someone's resting place and then later on watch that person performing in front of many fans. Watching them sing so beautifully and then think back to how still and silent the moment was paying respects to one of America's great performers. Bottom line - we all die. Make your life the best you can while you are still able to. Make your life worth someone's else's memory. It just feels like such a lonely place when you are at someone's grave. Never forget your loved ones.
I was 6 years old when he died. There are a few people that I remember where I was when I learned they died. Jim Croce, Elvis, John Lennon, Prince, and Neil Peart. I was in the dining room and my sister told me.
Jim Croce is one of the greatest folk singers in history. I’m a huge fan of folk music grew up in the 80’s and loved everything from Motown to Heavy Metal to Folk Rock, etc. Other great folk singers are Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, etc.
70’s Singer-Songwriters will never be reproduced. The very best of love songs. James Taylor - Fire and Rain (but you must learn Why the song was written)
Jim Croce is among the greatest song writers in the history of music. He weaves his stories with everything from the deepest love, to loss, to hilariously funny songs. You MUST just check out his entire catalog, you won’t regret it. Two of my faves is OPERATOR and I GOT A NAME. His comedic songs like Bad Bad Leroy Brown and Don’t Mess Around With Jim…HE IS a legend AMONG legends.
There are only a few times in my life I know exactly where I was when I heard the news of this type of loss. One was John Lennon, but the first one was Jim Croce. I cried all day both times. Such grievous losses to the world.
I believe in love at first sight. Saw her across a room and an inner voice said she is the one. 40 years later, it was so true. This song always make me think of her.
Jim actually wrote this for his son AJ Croce. AJ has had his own very successful music career. He is just now feeling comfortable doing his dad's music.
I love the reaction you did for Jim Croce’s song Time in a Bottle. He has several other lovely ballads including Operator, I’ll Have to Say I Love You in a Song, and I Got a Name. But, my favorites are the upbeat scrappy songs like Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and Don’t Mess Around with Jim. The man was a natural story teller.
It’s definitely pronounced Crow-chee. He is absolutely one of the best songwriters of all time and definitely was a tragic loss to everyone. If I were both of you, I would also check out the song Operator next
Grew up listening to Croce as he was a favorite of my dad’s. Always beautiful but means so much more since I lost him to cancer 33 years ago! You young men are correct “these are the good old days” never loose sight of that…they are precious and few❣️
When I was around 12Y/O there was an old farmer and his wife that was celebrating their 55th wedding anniversay. I asked him how they stayed together so long and I will never forget his response. "Marriage starts out all lover dovey, holding hands and playing kissy face. Then there is a long stretch where you are just best friends and roommates. Then, at the end, if you don't give up, the last few years are all lovey dovey and holding hands again." My wife and I are now married 35 years, and it has been exactly as he predicted. The destination is worth the journey...
It’s amazing to me how so many people have not heard of or heard some of his songs. He was absolutely amazing. His songs are so layered musically as well as lyrically. Listen to Operator. The single greatest song ever written musically and lyrically a perfect song. The music of Operator is so incredibly powerful that I’ve listened to it regularly since 1973 and still find stuff in it that I didn’t know before.
More great songs by Jim, 'I got a name', 'I'll have to say I love you, in a song', or fun ones like 'You don't mess around with Jim' or 'Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown'. Jim passed far too soon, in a 1973 plane crash, at only 30 years old. Time in a bottle was one song that came out after his death & is a fav by many.
Great reaction and you both have the insight to be there for your kids before they've grown up but I think the payback will be great. Yes anyone around in 1973 knew of Jim and this amazing song. He's got a lot more songs to react to such as "Oerator" and "I've Got a Name".
Oh Lord I know your younger than me .. this came out when I was a baby but it's pronounced Crowchee.. I know I need to learn how to pronounce some of the new names.. lol.. just letting you know the old stuff..but y'all did school me because even though I knew Jim Croce was dead I didn't know how he died.. learned something tonight. Thank you
I remember each and every word of the lyrics. My husband and I are together for 29yrs and we spend every minute together, we even worked together in my business in the States. You always have to be aware how fast tragedy can hit and we will not have to regret not spending time with each other.- Thank you both for this memory ❣
Jim Croce had such a lovely voice and a great talent. (Hearing you mispronounce his name reminded me of the movie "Showgirls" when the stripper mispronounced the Versace store name as "Ver-sase.") His death was a tremendous loss for the world. He was one of the many singer-songwriters who were popular in the '70s. And it was also lovely to hear you describing your philosophy of life. You are living it the way a Godly man should. Good on ya!
Just want to say thank you for sharing your story. This song packs quite a punch and it’s obvious the lyrics were impactful to you. Wishing you a long journey with your wife and daughter
My sister asked me to sing this Jim Croce (Crow-Chee) song at her wedding. It seems like a song that’s appropriate for any moment you want to “bottle up” and save forever. At that point in my life, I hadn’t had one, but did my best to imagine.
@BlackPegasusRaps @AnthonyRay , "We must look at ourselves over and over again in order to learn to love, to discover what has kept our hearts closed, and what it means to allow our hearts to open." Checkout "Don't Mess Around With Jim"

Ya correct crow-chi 😂 whatever makes them say it right. Hahahah.
My first favorite song as a kid was Leroy Brown. I didn’t know what it was about, but it’s one of my earliest memories.
I was just going to correct him. Lol
Yes crochee 😏 and pls ignore that insane video Ive never seen that and it drug the song down a little!
We always pronounced it Crow-she
I’ve never seen this video, but it doesn’t belong with this incredible song!! The moment we heard of his death is seared in my mind. We were juniors in high school and were on our way to school when the announcement came over the a.m. radio in the car. It was crushing.
In 1975 I walked down the aisle to this at my wedding. Still married 48 years, together 51 and this song is still true for us❤️❤️❤️
dang married 2 years after his death, happy for the long years you 2 spent together 😃 wish modern day women were willing to do that
Congratulations! That's fabulous.
Same!! Married in ‘75 - played this at our wedding. Still makes me cry whenever I hear it. Wish we could live all our years again. One line still makes me smile “I’ve looked around enough to know that you’re the one I want to go through time with” we weren’t even 20.
@@Lucygoldfinch that’s so cool! I met my husband when I was 18, and we got married when I was 21. He was 24❤️
@@leannmiller7153 So awesome! Long marriages are such a blessing!!
If you're gonna do Jim Croce, you HAVE to do "OPERATOR" it's classic and what a storyline!❤
Love this song!
I gotta name
Rollerderby Queen.
"...but there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do once you find them..." Considering that he was killed shortly after it was recorded, this is one of the most profoundly sad lines in music, to me.
I'LL go a step farther ....one of the most profoundly sad lines in life....again...i'll say to ME!! PEACE MAN!!!! HUGZZZZ
Just as sad as the first line of Free Bird .... If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me? The Lynyrd Skynyrd memorial in Magnolia, Mississippi, it amazing!

Taken way to soon! RIP
I second all of those choices.
"Operator" has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. However, I don't think young people today would even get it. You'd have to at least explain pay phones first. "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" is another one of my favs.
All great picks. For pure funny storytelling, my fave is “Working at the Carwash Blues” - criminally underrated IMO 💐
I believe Jim Croce put out 4 albums before his death.. all are filled with great music and story telling.. definitely worth the listen
Matchless songwriter -- he did profound ("Time in a Bottle", "Operator", "I Got a Name") and he did fun as hell ("Bad Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues"). Total genius.
He did NOT write "I Got a Name." Lyrics by Norman Gimbel and music by Charles Fox.
Operator is an all time favorite!
His son AJ was just shy of 2 years old. Jim was 30 years old. Jim Croce was and is a treasure. When Ren asked what songs he should do, I suggested Jim's "I got a name." You would appreciate that song, too. Thank you for this..❤
Yes!! That song kills me. Especially since I lost my last Grandparent 2 months ago. Makes you proud of the people you're decended from.
Operator and Bad Bad Leroy Brown is good Jim was an American treasure ❤
I have to say I love you in a song...he wrote after an argument with his wife and woke her up to sing it to her that same night
Anthony is a great man, keep him on.
Jim had some great songs, Operator, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and Don't Mess Around with Jim. All worh a listen.
I use to cry whenever I heard it fifty some years ago.

Speaking of kids, check out "Cats in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin 💚🤙
Jim Croce had a lot of hits. I grew up listening to him back in the 1970s. My favorite song by him is "I got a name"
Being 62 I was there when Jim Croce was starting to be all over the radio. His songs are so good, lyrically and musically. The way he plucks the guitar... magic. Many are humorous as well as the heart felt ones. Such a tragic loss to all of us.

'74 was a great year to graduate.... our 50th year class reunion is coming up Labor Day weekend...
I graduated in 73 and we had our 50 last fall!
I love this song. Photographs and memories is another great one. And bad bad Leroy Brown.
This song was my wedding song in 1974! Still happily married! The 70’s was the best time to live! Marriage is a friendship where you look at life through each others eyes!
"Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" (1973) is the Croce song i always heard growing up in the 80s - 90s
He returned in the morning saying how so sorry he was
She said he looked tired & upset. He said I wrote a song for us, & he played it as her tears fell. She later opened a restaurant called Thyme in a bottle. Nobody should apologize for shedding tears to this breathtaking moment.
His wife opened a restaurant with live music in San Diego, called Croce's. It's no longer, but worth a search to learn how it came to be.
So many great songs from Jim Croce.
Operator
Bad Bad Leroy Brown
Don't Mess Around with Jim 😊
I GREW UP IN THE 90'S AND I LOVE LOVE THIS SONG MY MOM LOVED SO THATS WHY I HEARD ALL THE 70'S OLDIES 😊
And a great reaction.

Checkout Jim’s song “I had to say I love you in a song”
Jim Croce, time in a bottle, official video, dancing wind. That's the best video.
He was awesome
Should check out his song Operator.
A true story teller! Get the name right dude. He deserves that. 😢
One of my favs all time.. gg for checking him out
Croce was one of our best storytellers and did it with not many words but to the point and with emotional impact
I believe in love at first sight. Saw her across a room and an inner voice said she is the one. 40 years later, it was so true. This song always make me think of her.
I remember when this song came out I was living in Cali. Then. I was 13 yrs old when this came out I am now 67 and I still love Jims music.
Jim actually wrote this for his son AJ Croce. AJ has had his own very successful music career. He is just now feeling comfortable doing his
dad's music.
🙏Jim.
Make me cry 😢..Wish like this love exist... Sad ...beautiful...❤
It’s definitely pronounced Crow-chee. He is absolutely one of the best songwriters of all time and definitely was a tragic loss to everyone. If I were both of you, I would also check out the song Operator next
Damn. Never put my kids to mind with this song, but just the thought has my eyes going.
Put me down for some "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" and "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" two of my favorite songs from Jim Croce.
Oh, thank you! I love Jim Croce and this song so much. My dad loved this artist, so this is the songs of my childhood.
Croce was a major talent gone too soon.
This is one of the most timeless and encompassing love songs ever.
I just knew you would be down with Croce, may he rest in peace. Blessings upon you!
Grew up listening to Croce as he was a favorite of my dad’s. Always beautiful but means so much more since I lost him to cancer 33 years ago! You young men are correct “these are the good old days” never loose sight of that…they are precious and few❣️

Jim has a son. His name is AJ Croce and he is a musician too.
Totally different than his dad's music but great.

Jim Croce is a legendary singer/songwriter! ❤
Jim Croce and his wife argued one night, which resulted in his "I'll Have to Say I Love You In A Song", another great track.
It’s amazing to me how so many people have not heard of or heard some of his songs. He was absolutely amazing. His songs are so layered musically as well as lyrically. Listen to Operator. They played this the night they announced his death and i had always been emotional for me

Yes, on more Jim Croce. Fun ones and serious ones. All great.
Just want to say thank you for sharing your story. This song packs quite a punch and it’s obvious the lyrics were impactful to you. Wishing you a long journey with your wife and daughter
I love Jim’s music. He wrote and sang from the heart.❤
I am older, I was 20 in 1970. This was a very popular song when I was in my 20's.
This man was a prolific song writer.
Those really were the days..
That video is horrifying! That song is absolute poetry!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. The video representing it was a fucking joke. Come on!
This is one of my all time favorite songs. I was still in grade school when I first heard it in music class.
❤❤❤Love him very much❤❤❤❤
My daughter was born in '73' and I used to sing this to her when I rocked her to sleep! It's ponounced Crow - chee!
- "Is there more [Jim Croce] that I need to listen to?"
- YES!!! :)
Great reaction. Croce is two syllables - pronounced "Crow - chee"
Love everything he recorded, super talented 💕
