Its actually pronounced Crow-chee...But Omg!!! I love this so much!! Jim Croce is 1 of my all time favorite song writers!!! Please do more music from this era! This is the kind of music my parents listened to while growing up, and it's definitely something u could just put on and listen to with the fam! Much love Boyz! 🫶
Ya correct crow-chi 😂 whatever makes them say it right. Hahahah.
My first favorite song as a kid was Leroy Brown. I didn’t know what it was about, but it’s one of my earliest memories.
I was just going to correct him. Lol
Yes crochee 😏 and pls ignore that insane video Ive never seen that and it drug the song down a little!
We always pronounced it Crow-she
"...but there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do once you find them..." Considering that he was killed shortly after it was recorded, this is one of the most profoundly sad lines in music, to me.
I'LL go a step farther ....one of the most profoundly sad lines in life....again...i'll say to ME!! PEACE MAN!!!! HUGZZZZ
In 1975 I walked down the aisle to this at my wedding. Still married 48 years, together 51 and this song is still true for us❤️❤️❤️
dang married 2 years after his death, happy for the long years you 2 spent together 😃 wish modern day women were willing to do that
Congratulations! That's fabulous.
Same!! Married in ‘75 - played this at our wedding. Still makes me cry whenever I hear it. Wish we could live all our years again. One line still makes me smile “I’ve looked around enough to know that you’re the one I want to go through time with” we weren’t even 20.
@@Lucygoldfinch that’s so cool! I met my husband when I was 18, and we got married when I was 21. He was 24❤️
@@leannmiller7153 So awesome! Long marriages are such a blessing!!
If you're gonna do Jim Croce, you HAVE to do "OPERATOR" it's classic and what a storyline!❤
Love this song!
Croce was awesome. It's better to watch him Live though. The bad graphics just take attention away from the lyrics.
After listening to your conversation afterward, I would highly recommend Harry Chapin's Cat's In The Cradle. As dads, it will really hit you hard.
Actually if you are going to do Harry Chapin there are some others besides his most popular Cats in the Cradle. I would recommend Roses are Red, Why Do the Little Girls, he also has a lot of interesting relationship songs. Harry painted pictures and told stories with many of his songs. His use of phrases and words will blow your mind in songs like Sniper and There Only Was One Choice.
Also, check out Dan Fogleburg's, "Leader of the Band". Tears me up EVERY TIME I HEAR IT!❤
Exactly what I was thinking! Not only terribly distracting visuals doing their best to ruin the lyrics(notice there were NO comments on the lyrics midstream), but that Cat's in the Cradle was perfectly appropriate to what these guys were talking about. Actually much more appropriate than the lyrics of this song, as this song was not directed toward progeny and what it means, but Chapin's was.
I’ve never seen this video, but it doesn’t belong with this incredible song!! The moment we heard of his death is seared in my mind. We were juniors in high school and were on our way to school when the announcement came over the a.m. radio in the car. It was crushing.
Operator is an all time favorite!
Jim Croce was simply amazing and I'm so happy his music is being heard by newer generations. May I suggest these Croce classics "Operator", "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" and of course "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" some of my favorites after "Time in a Bottle". Thank you for reacting to this timeless classic.
Taken way to soon! RIP
I second all of those choices.
"Operator" has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. However, I don't think young people today would even get it. You'd have to at least explain pay phones first. "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" is another one of my favs.
All great picks. For pure funny storytelling, my fave is “Working at the Carwash Blues” - criminally underrated IMO 💐
I believe Jim Croce put out 4 albums before his death.. all are filled with great music and story telling.. definitely worth the listen
Croce had a four year old son when he died who is also a singer. He has just recently began to tour and sing his father’s music! What a legacy to embrace!
Matchless songwriter -- he did profound ("Time in a Bottle", "Operator", "I Got a Name") and he did fun as hell ("Bad Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues"). Total genius.
He did NOT write "I Got a Name." Lyrics by Norman Gimbel and music by Charles Fox.
When I was around 12Y/O there was an old farmer and his wife that was celebrating their 55th wedding anniversay. I asked him how they stayed together so long and I will never forget his response. "Marriage starts out all lover dovey, holding hands and playing kissy face. Then there is a long stretch where you are just best friends and roommates. Then, at the end, if you don't give up, the last few years are all lovey dovey and holding hands again." My wife and I are now married 35 years, and it has been exactly as he predicted. The destination is worth the journey...
My sister asked me to sing this Jim Croce (Crow-Chee) song at her wedding. It seems like a song that’s appropriate for any moment you want to “bottle up” and save forever. At that point in my life, I hadn’t had one, but did my best to imagine.
There is no video for this song. IDK WTF we just watched but I found this silly animation to be a huge distraction. One of the most beautiful sentiments every expressed in a song. Croce had a number of hits & you should certainly check out some of his other works. I'd suggest Leroy Brown just so you can see his more playful side.
Well, this single was released in 1973, the same year Jim Croce died, and videos didn't really become a thing until MTV, which started in 1981. Reaction videos pretty much have to limit themselves to versions already on UA-cam in order to avoid copyright strikes.
I tend to agree with you.. the animation was stupid and distracted from the actual music
His name is pronounced Jim Crow-che. He died September 20, 1973 and the album Time in a Bottle with this song debuted on December 1, 1973. This was his breakout album so though he was popular he hadnt hit it big before this. Its now 50 years later and people are still discovering his greatness.
Speaking of kids, check out "Cats in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin 💚🤙
I have to say I love you in a song...he wrote after an argument with his wife and woke her up to sing it to her that same night
His son AJ was just shy of 2 years old. Jim was 30 years old. AJ is touring singing his father's songs 🎵By the time Jim ( pronounced Crow- chee) graduated from Villanova University in 1965, with a degree in psychology, his photographic memory had helped him have as many as 2500 songs at his fingertips.
I've listened to this song my whole life. I just lost my husband of 38 years. It hits different now. Thank you.
You have my condolences. If you don't mind me saying, what a blessing to have such a loving relationship for so long.♥️ God bless you & yours; I'll pray He gives you peace.🙏🏽
Jim Croce was and is a treasure. When Ren asked what songs he should do, I suggested Jim's "I got a name." You would appreciate that song, too. Thank you for this..❤
Yes!! That song kills me. Especially since I lost my last Grandparent 2 months ago. Makes you proud of the people you're decended from.
Operator and Bad Bad Leroy Brown is good Jim was an American treasure ❤
His wife explained. They had a slight falling out. Jim was constantly on the road. Not making much of anything. She knew how much it meant but felt alone and was worried about where things were going. He left the bedroom where they were talking. He returned in the morning saying how so sorry he was
She said he looked tired & upset. He said I wrote a song for us, & he played it as her tears fell. She later opened a restaurant called Thyme in a bottle. Nobody should apologize for shedding tears to this breathtaking moment.
Jim Croce died on my 8th birthday, Sept. 20, 1973, in Natchitoches, LA. He had just finished playing his last show at NSU and wanted to get home. The plane clipped a pecan tree at the end of the runway killing all onboard. Just imagine what he could have accomplished if he hadn't died so young.
I use to cry whenever I heard it fifty some years ago.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. I was still in grade school when I first heard it in music class.
So many great songs from Jim Croce.
Operator
Bad Bad Leroy Brown
Don't Mess Around with Jim 😊
Jim had some great songs, Operator, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and Don't Mess Around with Jim. All worh a listen.
Sounds like “Cats in the Cradle “ needs to be on your playlist.
I was 6 years old when he died. There are a few people that I remember where I was when I learned they died. Jim Croce, Elvis, John Lennon, Prince, and Neil Peart. I was in the dining room and my sister told me.
when lyrics hits your soul.. now most songs now doesnt do that. a massive hit song right now will be forgotten the next year.
So good. I’ve cried to some Jim Croce for sure. One of my uncles played the song operator on guitar and sang it perfectly he’s who got me into jim Croce. Such a real soul
As a songwriter, Croce's lyrics, regardless of which song, always find a way to tap into one's emotions. He does have a son, AJ, who has his own unique style of music; I hope you can tap into him sometime, too. Jim's musical partner, Maury Muehleisen was an accomplished guitarist in his own right; the two were friends and played together for several years. Both were killed in that plane crash. Their candle had only begun to light and was extinguished way too soon.
I graduated from H.S. in 1974. This was chosen as our class song, both in memory of Jim and as a means to stay together as a “family”. I’m now 67 years young, and still I get emotional when I listen to not just this, but many of Jim’s songs.
Croce is one of the singer/songwriters from the 1970's. It was an amazing time for music! Jim not only did very popular ballads, but also had some very funny songs: "Roller Derby Queen", "Don't Mess Around with Jim". He was taken too soon.
Another great talent that left us too soon. His son, now a musician, refused to play this song for many years because he didn't want to be thought of only as his father's son. But he now includes it in every show as a tribute to his father. I was in high school when this was released. He composed a lot of great songs in his 30 years. His catalog is well worth a listen. A true story teller.
Jim Croce was a prolific singer/songwriter. Awesome lyricist.
Being 62 I was there when Jim Croce was starting to be all over the radio. His songs are so good, lyrically and musically. The way he plucks the guitar... magic. Many are humorous as well as the heart felt ones. Such a tragic loss to all of us.
Another song that you two might like is by Harry Chapin,The Cat's in the Cradle
Anthony is a great man, keep him on.
70’s Singer-Songwriters will never be reproduced. The very best of love songs.
James Taylor - Fire and Rain (but you must learn Why the song was written)
"Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" (1973) is the Croce song i always heard growing up in the 80s - 90s
When I was a kid and we went to any amusement type place, the dodgem cars always played Bad Bad Leroy Brown - as my brother always did his best to run into other cars.
Jim Croce had a lot of hits. I grew up listening to him back in the 1970s. My favorite song by him is "I got a name"
This song was my wedding song in 1974! Still happily married! The 70’s was the best time to live! Marriage is a friendship where you look at life through each others eyes!
It's Jim Crow-chee, was one of my dads favorite artists so it hits home with me deep too @anthonyray Operator is another amazing one
It’s so important to put your children before yourself. I know someone who told me, in a complaining way, that her daughter wanted to go to the mall with her on Saturday morning. I asked if they went. “No, it’s the only day I can sleep in,” was mom’s reply. They have no relationship now and haven’t spoken in close to 20 years.
Your commentary was spot on.
My mom passed away a few years ago, this was one of hers jams. Loved it my whole life, too legit.
Great reaction. Croce is two syllables - pronounced "Crow - chee"
My Dad passed in 2018 after battling leukemia. He loved this song. It reminds me of him and he is still here for a moment. ❤
Jim croce my top 5 fav artists all time. Just fyi
I GREW UP IN THE 90'S AND I LOVE LOVE THIS SONG MY MOM LOVED SO THATS WHY I HEARD ALL THE 70'S OLDIES 😊
I visited Jim's grave in November. Its so surreal to stand at the foot of someone's resting place and then later on watch that person performing in front of many fans. Watching them sing so beautifully and then think back to how still and silent the moment was paying respects to one of America's great performers. Bottom line - we all die. Make your life the best you can while you are still able to. Make your life worth someone's else's memory. It just feels like such a lonely place when you are at someone's grave. Never forget your loved ones.
Jim actually wrote this for his son AJ Croce. AJ has had his own very successful music career. He is just now feeling comfortable doing his
dad's music.
There are only a few times in my life I know exactly where I was when I heard the news of this type of loss. One was John Lennon, but the first one was Jim Croce. I cried all day both times. Such grievous losses to the world.
I’m older. For me - I want more time with my 90 year old dad. Thanks for this song, again.
- "Is there more [Jim Croce] that I need to listen to?"
- YES!!! :)
More great songs by Jim, 'I got a name', 'I'll have to say I love you, in a song', or fun ones like 'You don't mess around with Jim' or 'Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown'. Jim passed far too soon, in a 1973 plane crash, at only 30 years old. Time in a bottle was one song that came out after his death & is a fav by many.
Jim Croce is one of the greatest folk singers in history. I’m a huge fan of folk music grew up in the 80’s and loved everything from Motown to Heavy Metal to Folk Rock, etc. Other great folk singers are Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, etc.
Damn. Never put my kids to mind with this song, but just the thought has my eyes going.
For another perspective on arguments, check out "We Just Disagree" by Dave Mason. It's great song but the main part of the chorus says, "There ain't no good guy. There ain't no bad guy. There's only you and me and we just disagree".
Put me down for some "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" and "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" two of my favorite songs from Jim Croce.
I remember when this song came out I was living in Cali. Then. I was 13 yrs old when this came out I am now 67 and I still love Jims music.
It’s definitely pronounced Crow-chee. He is absolutely one of the best songwriters of all time and definitely was a tragic loss to everyone. If I were both of you, I would also check out the song Operator next
Jim Croce is among the greatest song writers in the history of music. He weaves his stories with everything from the deepest love, to loss, to hilariously funny songs. You MUST just check out his entire catalog, you won’t regret it. Two of my faves is OPERATOR and I GOT A NAME. His comedic songs like Bad Bad Leroy Brown and Don’t Mess Around With Jim…HE IS a legend AMONG legends.
Croce was one of our best storytellers and did it with not many words but to the point and with emotional impact
Hi guys. Jim was one of the most prolific songwriters. I don't know who did this video to Jim's music, but this is a song Jim wrote as a gift to his newborn son. So the art really didn't fit it. Jim was early in his career and was sadly killed in a plane crash along with his musical partner who played guitar and sang harmony. Jim has a deep well of music out there. He has great funny songs and beautiful love songs. Jim's name was always pronounced as Cro-Chee but I saw him on an old Dick Cavett show rerun and he was asked how to pronounce it. He said Cro-Chay. If you have ever heard the songs Bad Bad Leroy Brown or Don't Mess Around With Jim, then you have heard Jim Croce. Brilliant writer and performer. The 70s was the era of the great singer/songwriter and Jim was one of them.
Would have been good if could have gotten a video of Jim himself doing his song. I'm not one for others visions of a song. Croce was/is a wonderful Soul and do miss the era of "legit Folk Artists". As with SRV, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Buddy Holly plane travel weren't good for them. Be it planes or drugs, the good ones aren't allowed to stay with us long, but do leave behind their knowledge ... Thank You Jesus.
This song always makes me think of opening a music box. You open it and listen to the song which inspires memories...
I am older, I was 20 in 1970. This was a very popular song when I was in my 20's.
This man was a prolific song writer.
One of my favs all time.. gg for checking him out
a good woman can 100% change a man for the better. When your kids are born it deepens by a profound level. Love with your family is a journey over time.
You'll probably recognize bad bad leeroy brown, or Operator...
one of my favorites.
I love this song. Photographs and memories is another great one. And bad bad Leroy Brown.
I was married with one daughter and one on the way in 1972. The irony is Jim died the following year and my second daughter was born that year and 2 more daughters later.lm 72 years old now and still remember listening to all his music and his tragedy and it always reminds me of how I lived on to enjoy my life with my wife, daughters, grandchildren. Very Thankful.
Make me cry 😢..Wish like this love exist... Sad ...beautiful...❤
I remember each and every word of the lyrics. My husband and I are together for 29yrs and we spend every minute together, we even worked together in my business in the States. You always have to be aware how fast tragedy can hit and we will not have to regret not spending time with each other.- Thank you both for this memory ❣
My daughter was born in '73' and I used to sing this to her when I rocked her to sleep! It's ponounced Crow - chee!
Jim has a son. His name is AJ Croce and he is a musician too.
Totally different than his dad's music but great.
Check out Which Way Steinway
Checkout Jim’s song “I had to say I love you in a song”
Should check out his song Operator.
Putting in all those hours of work and identifying so much with this song, have you listened to Cat's In The Cradle - a 1974 folk rock song by Harry Chapin? Being a single mom, that song helped me change perspective. Time and all the missed opportunities is a matter of how we prioritize. What happens when intense feelings pull us in different directions? What really does matter most? Our actions say More Than Words (another good song by Extreme...lol).
I was going to recommend this song too. Another great song from another singer who died too soon.
Hey y'all. Jim's grandparents immigrated from Sicily to the US, and he kept the Italian pronunciation of the name: CROW-chee.
I was 17 when this came out and loved Jim Croce. So sad when he died
My wife's father performed this at our wedding. And we are struggling right now. Grown man in shambles over here.
Thank you both, for what you do.
Jim Croce has two songs on my “Never skip” list: I Got A Name (gorgeous build up with strings) and You Don’t Mess Around With Jim.
This song was always about my dad, how I could capture every awesome moment we had, and relive them whenever we wanted. He passed in June 2011, my fav memory with him was was in 2009 watching The Golden Girls and M.A.S.H at his house and laughing together. Dolly Parton's "I'll always love you" was another that spoke to my love for my dad. Great reaction guys!
Another song that hits hard where having children and time spent with them, is Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin. Sooooo good.
This 78 year old guy can't agree with your not believing at love at first sight, the day I met my wife, who was a cousin of a friend I was smitten, told him I was going to marry her, he laughed, after dating and graduating we married had to great children and enjoyed 33 years of a great partnership marriage until she passed away unexpectedly in 1999. I still have those memories in my bottle. Thanks for sharing your reactions.
Loved you sharing yourself in this reaction!!!! always know there's a full grown ass woman out here that appreciates how BOTH of you are talking about time with your kids...my dad did NOT make me or my mother a priority....Dad and I were ok when he went to heaven...he knew I loved him and I KNEW HE LOVED ME...spent a lot of life feeling a bit screwed in the dad dept!!! Thanks for a great reaction...AND the healing that STILL happens for me when I hear men talking about their children and what those kids mean to the men!!!!!!! Peace out my friend!!! HUGZZZZ
Grew up listening to Croce as he was a favorite of my dad’s. Always beautiful but means so much more since I lost him to cancer 33 years ago! You young men are correct “these are the good old days” never loose sight of that…they are precious and few❣️
Croce was a major talent gone too soon.
This is one of the most timeless and encompassing love songs ever.
In 1968 or 1969, Jim and Ingrid Croce walked into a studio and paid out of their pocket to cut an album. They sang several songs together including some of his songs that went on later to become hits. The album was released as "Another Day, Another Town" (and also as "Bombs Over Puerto Rico") and it was done "on the cheap" meaning no added production, no real mixing, no frills. After that album came out, Jim was eventually noticed by a big-name label and they took him into the studio - alone, Ingrid was not part of the deal. The rest - as they say - is history. His first "real" album was released with some of the songs from "Another Day, Another Town" and some new material. You might be interested in hearing some of his hits in raw form with no additional production - and with his wife accompanying him. You can still find "Another Day, Another Town" and "Bombs Over Puerto Rico" on Amazon and they are gems in the rough, to be sure! Great reaction!
If you like story time Harry Chapin "taxi" if you react to this you HAVE to do the sequel "the sequel" it came 10 years after taxi, but it is the followup to the song.....BTW love Jim Croce thank you for keeping great story tellers alive.
They played this the night they announced his death and i had always been emotional for me
One of my all time favorites . Love that you checked out!!!
This is my parents wedding song, and the first song of Jim's that ive heard. Sent me down the rabbit hole.
We lost Jim way too soon, just when he was taking off his plane crashed, it was devastating. Hope you take a listen to his song Operator, and to change it up Bad Bad Leroy Brown. Thanks for the memories.
One of the greatest songwriters. In my personal top ten.
He was one of the best singer song writers of his time. Some of it is funny, some tugs at your soul.
🙏Jim.
That video takes away from that song
Amen!
His son, AJ Croce, is a nice musician himself from Nashville. I believe, currently, he's on the Croce sings Croce tour. It's where he sings his father's catalogue but peppers in a couple of his own originals.
Those really were the days..
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. The video representing it was a fucking joke. Come on!
