- The Altitude Reserve is a great card that a lot of people can get value from. I however am realizing that I am not one of those people.

I have both CSR and USB AR as well and find they compliment each other well, especially with CSR PP restaurants going away. And I mostly use AR as my 4.5x catch although if I didn’t I’d probably just use the VX but honestly needed to pivot to more cash back and I’m willing to pay the $60 effective AF for the convenience of only needing 1 card in my mobile wallet- at least when not SUB spending
A lot of ppl don’t bank churn because usually best bonuses require depositing significant amounts of💰 for 2-3 mos.
And RJ is goated 🐐. He’s the Socrates or Zarathustra if u prefer in this space. My dawg.
Let’s not forget CCs are PRODUCTS - and that offer wild claims of exciting value (and referrals and click revenue for influencers ). Of course there’s a lot hype. I ignore it (like CSR, USBAR, Ritz) and focus on my needs and plans.
RJ is the goat. Dude got that absolute dawg in him
I have the CSP. I recently, started a US Bank checking account because they have a good bonus to open one. So, one of the requirements to have the maintenance fees to be bypassed is to have a US Bank credit card. The USBAR is up there on the AF but they have the other ones with no AF but I don’t want to burn one of my 5/24 slots yet. But yes the bank bonuses are amazingly good. I do the same thing you’re doing with the bank bonuses right now actually. Just be aware they have the 1099-Int for the taxes later Jake. Keep it going bro!
I'm doing USbank $800 checking/savings bonus right now
@@34skyline I was contemplating the requirements for the savings and I have my hysa with wealthfront and a couple of others so I’m still in a decision phase for the savings account. The checking had easier requirements as far as i read anyway.
@@ntrlbrnpnoi yea I know $25,000 a lot of money to put in a savings account that you can’t touch for 90 days but I direct deposited the $25k but it suck’s that USbank only gives you $300 vs opening a smarty checking gives you $500 just by direct depositing $10,000 in 90 days, I open my accounts in early march Jan2024 promo code , I also got a CD, building a good relationship with USbank so that when I apply for U.S. BANK ALTITUDE RESERVE not going to have issues , I also want to get the connect, Go and power credit cards, Hardly anyone talking about those credit cards.
@@34skyline man a bit high for me right now with the requirements. But that is so awesome!
I been doing the doing the bank account bonus before I got my first credit card. And now I work in a regional bank in NYC as a banker and I am still hunting for bank account bonuses😂
I have both CSR and USBAR. I think they complement each other with CSR getting rid of PP restaurants, you still have with USBAR.
I don’t think USBAR has PP restaurant.
$1250 in cash back last yr. $11k in bank bonuses. It all goes into brokerage accts, which also offer bonuses. 📈 🌙
Solid title change for the video I definitely think this one will get more engagement
What should I change it to, I’ll let you pick
Bruh I misread that lol, changed it back
Sorry man!! Lol I like what you had.
They are ALL good.
Also. I made $2,000 from checking accounts last year!! How can you beat that?!
I have USB and love it. But if you have the CSR you DON’T need it. Since you’re in NYC the sapphire lounges are good enough. What makes the AR a great card is the mobile wallet that can be used anywhere. I rack up 10k points a month on it but your max redemption set at 1.5 with no partners. Don’t sweat it.
Right. I'll come back to this card in a couple years. Makes sense to not get it with the CSR
@@jakemercure but journey > USBAR tho.
I don’t think I’ve applied for any card simply due to hype. I think the welcome offers attracted me to most cards that I’ve opened. I’m also working on a bank account bonus at the moment 😂. I’m interested to see how the bank bonuses go for you.
Agreed 100%
I think bank account bonuses are criminally underrated. Im glad you are getting some too!
Bank bonuses are taxable and will be reported via a 1099-INT. Depending on your state and federal tax bracket your after-tax benefit can be reduced by 30-60% since it's on top of your regular income so you'll be paying at your highest marginal tax bracket rates.
I think people chasing these bonuses have much lower effective tax rates probably in the 12%-22% range. MAYBE 30% if you live in a state that levies an income tax and you're in the 95k-182k income range.
Maybe, I'll see how the taxes work and maybe if it sucks i wont do it again!
AR is my go to card for in store shopping . This was useful while traveling internationally. For past three months I might have earned almost 15k points . If you are not someone who is loyal to hotel, this card is for you.
Make a bank bonus video !
Dropping that in 4 minutes
Ritz Carlton card
CSR - you’re fired. USBAR is approved and incoming. I can make due with 8 PP restaurant visits. I have other PP normal access. Restaurants is what made CSR valuable to me. Grab a sub for CIP and 3x travel is back with xfer partners.
Y’all gonna be punching air when US bank neerfs PP in next 12 mos.
@@newagain9964 Just means I’ll get a new card from BoA and yet another new SUB.
I’m getting that card as soon as June 1 hits !!!
Nice! I think its a great card
How do I make direct deposits? i also got a us bank checking with the bonus but I don't know how to make those direct deposits count. Help me pls
Look at this page: www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/#comment-317438
It shows all the methods that count as a DD for all banks. Just scroll down to U.S. Bank and see what works
5:49 I think your assessment is mistaken, a bank account bonus is return on savings, a credit card bonus is a return on spend, people can and do use both, even in that $45K in one year video RJ made, he was using both
In my opinion it comes down to simplicity vs complexity, regardless of if one is stacking welcome bonuses, cash back multipliers or travel coupons, the more complexity you're comfortable with the greater the return, the more simplicity the less the return
Also I 100% think Credit card youtube is driven by hype, a picture of a bank account gaining money doesn't bring in views like pictures of food or people in hotel swimming pools
My last video about bank accounts just proves what you're saying. Its interesting to know how all this works..
Yes, bank account bonuses has been a game changer for me! Changing my direct deposit information online at work takes like two minutes tops and then opening up the bank account itself also doesn't take too long either. I now have an avenue to build up a stash of cash to park in a brokerage account as a dedicated travel fund and then I can just focus on my travel card setup for my everyday spending.
And yes, the USBAR can be used for PP restaurants. Although, I can see a complete slash of the PP restaurant benefit from Priority Pass in general at some point. Seems to be the trend. Especially if the restaurants are consistently losing money and banks aren't willing to pay them to make up for the difference. That's probably what happened with Chase and PP as a way for Chase to dodge paying PP restaurants.
The altitude reserve was definitely a hype thing, like it was always there and then I feel like one person made a video about it and then every UA-camr was talking about how it’s a trifecta killer and that they’re switching to it and all this shit…. It was dumb and it was hype
Yeah its still a good card tho, just gotta be aware of the hype thing
Meh. USBAR is prob the 5th best travel card. And top 2-3 best cash back card. So it has that going for it.
It’s easy to get lost in the sauce 😂
Jake’s next Card: Signify Cash
Cash back arc would be insane
Could jump all the way into Wells and grab an autograph
Bank account sign up bonus is taxable. Credit card rewards are not
Good point
Driven by Hype?? Asks the VX.
True
a friday night banger
Grab a WF Autograph card or an Amex Business card!
Lot of people talking about WF autograph, i gotta look more
CSP is good but not great and CSR is overpriced nonsense.Would only get either with elevated SUB. Inks are chase’s best products.
And yes, I churn bank accts. But right now only offers of $600+ gets my attention.
Hype is a real thing... but everyone should run the #s and see what works. I go for bonuses. Ill let my p2 get the this card after 5/24. Especially bc she uses samsung pay more than anything.
Always run the #s
The platinum card is losing sirus xm as a digital entertainment partner on May 8 2024
Robinhood card
Its decent, not a big robinhood guy tho
Lmao. They’re the opposite of Robinhood. And within next 12 mos it won’t be 3x anymore
@@newagain9964 false, its 3x indefinitely across the board. I wont get it though cause no signup bonus
Basically to answer your hype question, hype cards generally would have no value. Think the robin hood gold, when new credit products are offered they are discussed to get clicks by content creators. We as credit card enthusiasts live in a bubble. Most credit cards that are pushed as the best options have high referral bonuses. If I'm honest, most cards should be used as a tooll to accomplish a purpose. For instance i just oppened an 80K platinum select citi AA card it will get me to Asia this year off 4K in spend. In 2022 i did the same opening united cards. Accruing points because bonus is big leads to this ridiculous environment we are seeing on UA-cam. People refuse to do the research and or plan. For me almost every card is garbage because of terrible point valuations on flying to Asia for most cobranded cards. Also as someone who travels internationally Asia in soecific all hotel cards are garbage. That leads me to prowling for the best ability to get to Asia off one card bonus. I currently have banked multiple years of flights and that's another issue but I don't think most people actually get cards based on function but instead on perceived value.
Fax. And Hotel cards are the worst, def to hold and to some degree even churn (do them towards end of game). I Love (😑) the recent grift of influencers pushing Marriott CCs. Those free night certs are a joke. But don’t worry u can buy pts twice for what they’re worth to top off! What a deal! 🙄
I feel like we live in a bubble too. Most people dont do this with credit cards hahaa. I do agree people gotta plan it out more and know what they are getting into before jumping on offers
