Jake has been on tilt ever since Turkish Airlines trashed his Smiles & Miles hahaha
“Raw dogging the sign up bonus” hell yeah brother
This channel, “Jake's Credit Card Confessions“ 😂❤️
😂😂
I love this channel....this guy is freaking hilarious!!!
Credit card confessions with Jake! There comes a point when you want a simple 1-2 card system. I'm there. USBAR would actually be a good setup for me to pay for Disney cruises that aren't available in any travel portal.
You're right about the referral programs. That's a major factor in whether people talk about a credit card.
The game within the game. Within the game. Which is also within another game.
Gameception, its real
Appreciate the honesty here Jake. You're a real one on here.
I don't have trouble knowing which card to use for a particular type of purchase. For some reason I'm good about remembering the multipliers and benefits on each card. It probably helps that I have 7 cards and mostly use just 3. I do understand how you could get overwhelmed by it. Many credit card UA-camrs have such complicated setups. I like simplicity.
Well for me so far I have a lot of cards that overlap the same cat. So I basically go on what currency I want for that year!
@@williamfeliciano6003100% truth. For me, once I empty my Amex MR pts after 2-3 international trips ending in 2024, I’ll only have VX and Cpl Chase. Maybe altitude reserve (Still debating).
I’m Not a fan of Amex. But Plat is cool, but only for travel. And esp internationally. Green is ok. Only if it keeps clear.
Same here, I like things simple.
As a new content creator I really appreciate your casual and fresh approach. As a travel focused guy, I haven’t considered the Altitude Reserve but I may rethink it in the future.
You are hilarious! Great info as well. Subscribed.
Man if I were you I'd just chill for now on opening cards. It's obvious you want the card, and you're tired of hitting SUBs. Use the cards you have now, like the Gold for dining out, wait a few months until your hard inquiries go down and then try to apply. US bank also has a lot of manual underwriting as opposed to other card issuers, you'll probably be able to speak to someone and plead your case.
What this guy said. Need to cool it.
Cool down plan coming soon, i agree with you
giving you some confidence, my mom recently applied with 4/24 and got instantly approved. 6/24 is probably still too much, but if 4/24 is not that far away, you might want to wait and bit and try again
Man, your lighting setup is great! Is it a combo of natural light and studio? Or all studio lighting?
Bro i feel just like you! I want to start doing some credit card youtube channel but i honestly have no idea which to use for certain things or places. I try though. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. But keep up the channel to just tell the truth of it all. Take care!
We all go through this current Jake phase at one point or another I think. I am getting to the same spot as you though, running out of big bonuses to get and wanting to just have one go to card but points are so addicting haha.
I have 6 inquiries on EXP and I'm above 5/24. I've been gardening since October and it's killing me! I feel ya Jake.
an ethical credit card UA-camr that is very open about how all YT credit card game is about referrals, W =)
Pure comedy bro. Love your channel for how relaxed-but-serious is it!
I love new cards, got myself to 8/24 last year, but I’m chilling this year and only looking to upgrade my Business Gold Card to a Business Platinum (if they offer it) a little before July, which is my one year anniversary. I want to get under 5/24, grab a couple chase cards, then hit the SUBs full force starting at the end of 2025.
Love your content.
- Ivan
yepp Im gonna go for it at 2/12 hope it works out. Thanks for stopping by Ivan!
I have 6 cards, but only carry 4, and most of the mulitipliers dont cross over, and i use certain cards at certain places, the problem is tring to remember which gives the best benifits (ex. phone coverage, or which has the best warranty, or best travel benifit)
The U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve is a good card to have, so it might be worth it to go into the garden for a little while. I’ve noticed lately that more content creators are talking about this card. This is a card that I may consider getting in the future. Right now, I have the U.S. Bank Cash+ card and I got it in late 2021. When I got it, I had a checking account with them for about 6 months. I had 2 hard inquiries in the prior 24 months, no new credit card accounts in the previous 6 months and 1 new credit card in the previous 12 months. I really think that my existing relationship with the bank is what helped me get approved for the card. Great video, as always, Jake!
Thanks for the input John! This will help a ton when I apply in june this year
I got a nice small lightweight set of binoculars from Hudson Trail Outfitters when they were closing.
I have a spotting scope that I bought on eBay.
I find that opening a checking or savings account with the bank prior to applying for a credit card helps with approval odds. I had 7 hard inquiries and got approved for US Bank, Capital One and Citi
US Bank cards are extremely hard to get especially if you don't have a banking relationship with them. I feel you on juggling these cards for spending, I get annoyed and overwhelmed sometimes. "Raw dogging the sign up bonus" 😂 You a real one Jake LFG!! 💥
You have to be organized & there are Apps to keep a person on track. If one has a great memory then you’re ahead of this wacky points game.
I agree with you I personally think either J.P Morgan or Stanley Morgan are behind UA-cam 😂
If you have a us bank checking or biz checking you can get approved at high velocity. I got the us bank leverage and triple cash biz in the same month last year and I’m at lol/24
A selection of no annual fee Vsas and Mastercards from the big issuers will make sure you're always getting a great points pump. It's like living where there are several retail stores that have alternating big sales. I'm always getting $1,000 a year plus the welcome bonuses.
I plan at start of the month which card to use at which place
Dont know how this popped up in my feed, but Young fella, this channel is hilarious. Oh, and as a USBank business and personal customer, walk into the bank and talk to them. Seems like I have tried all the biggest banking and card ecosystems. Once you fully understand the use case, USBank accounts and credit cards are unmatched.
Thank you for watching, Im glad you enjoyed the video. Im very much so looking forward to US Bank Altitude Reserve. I hope i can get it figured out.
Sweet deal on the monitor, bud! 👍
I got your back bro, I’ll be applying for this card soon. and if I don’t get it, then it’s them, not us! 👍😂😂😂
Agreed, those popular gas/grocery/dining multiplier categories do nothing!! I earn more points on car repairs which is always a kick in the balls, but at least I'm earning 2x.
Spot on with why the altitude reserve isn't talked about more
Love Jake❤
Chase has always been associated with 5/24 but I think US Bank and CapOne pretty much follow the same rule.
I have 8-9 inquires on all bureaus and I just got the altitude reserve 2 weeks ago.
How many new accounts in the last 12 months?
4
Do you have a US Bank checking or savings account?
No I just asked the same thing the other day, you don’t need that anymore. It’s easier to get the CC first before banking account (supposedly)
I speak as someone who got the Chase Preferred last year and was never bothered about referrals before that I honestly don't know how I would refer someone anyway. I don't want to hassle people about signing up for cards and most people I know won't just sign up for a card. Heck some people I know refuse a credit card and most would outright call me crazy for me trying to get someone to sign up for a card that charges money annually.
18 accounts.
Now at 5/24.
Last card end of November 2023 WF Choice Privileges Select.
I've had the Sapphire Preferred & Reserve, but no welcome bonus.
Later this year all downgrade and pick a Reserve welcome bonus. Hopefully I get a nice elevated offer!
I been using one card the Gold to meet the minimum spend. It has been phenomenal for the simplicity and not worrying about using multiple cards. However, just received 90k bonus and I am not looking forward to use multiple cards.
You're not gonna believe me but I'm in the exact same position right now and I understood everything you said and what you meant. I've been in the "credit game" for a while now and never came across your videos before. I like the fact that they don't seem scripted or anything like that, just feels like an organic conversion. You got yourself a sub👍
Thats awesome, Im glad you enjoyed chill conversation style!
Is the 0-1 hard inquiries for all US Bank cards, or just for the Altitude reserve?
Do they always pull Experian?
not sure, I think they will pull depending on your location, Ill let you know my datapoint when I apply
Jake what’s good with it 🤠
Credit card youtubers are a dime a dozen, but your transparent joking about it and how 'the game' is played is what can make you unique in this space. I hope you hold onto that honest nature no matter how big this channel gets :)
No sweat you will get this one after some gardening a lot of the big banks WF, Chase, BofA, Citi, US Bank, Capital One are not fans of a profile that has opened many accounts recently or even within a 1-2 year time span. I skipped all these bigger banks and chose other lenders or credit unions. If I was patient and gardened for 1-2 years I’d hold some of the bigger bank cards I don’t have. I will say you have an excellent profile and know what you’re doing building up the history for sure, big banks don’t like endless credit seekers unfortunately just how their underwriting is.
Blues clues?
Don't worry, you're definitely not the only one!
Hey Jake. I think you just need to keep a clean slate (0-1 hard inquiries) for 6 months instead of 24 months for US bank. Here is my datapoint.
I got my US Bank Altitude Reserve in Dec 2023. The last credit card I applied before the Altitude Reserve was in May, so I waited 6 months and a couple of days before applying the Altitude Reserve. At the time of application, I had over 10 hard inquiries. However, I do have to mention that I also have US Bank Cash Plus, which may or may not be a factor here. Some people have pointed out that having previous relationship with US Bank does help.
Not saying this will definitely work for you. YMMV. But hey, if you have been gardening for 6 months, why not give it a try
Bruh. Having an account already with US BANK is huge factor. More than no apps in 6 mos. Which is variable and not a hard rule.
I was 2/24, 800+, 16 personal cc, I applied for venture x and altitude reserve the same day. Venture X straight up denial. USBAR went through pending and approval the next day
Thats awesome. I wish I went for it when I was at a lower 5/24 status. Its gonna be a challenge now
Venture X and Savor One is all you need.
You are 100% on the money. If the AR had referral links there would immediately be 100 videos about it. This card just blows so many cards out of the water.
I have the card and love it. It’s a points machine because I have a high level of spend. Earning about 11k points a month. You would need to realize that those points will come from the transferable points you could have earned in other ecosystems. I would stop applying for cards for about 6 months then give it a shot. From your other videos it seems you have like every premium card so that’s a ton of fees. USBAR fee is easy to recoup though. Good luck.
Man you are hilarious! I'm a dirty man! No longer clean! Ha! I have 1 to 2 depending on which file is pulled but I know what you mean. I enjoy optimizing just within the Amex ecosystem and I do have the AAdvantage PSWE.
Sign up bonuses is the game. Your core card setup is for downtime only. Amex Gold = Core, All else is flexible. Hard to find a gas card in the points game; easier on the cash back side. Will be using Marriot Business 4x for gas; as the only cash back card I will run going forward is the Prime Visa. After your sub hunting season is over; only then will the multipliers really matter.
Very true, that makes sense. Hopefully after the hunting season is over we have enough food for the winter. Should be good tho
Open up a checking or savings account with U.S. Bank to start establishing a relationship and then wait 6 months. In the meantime, churn a business card or two as that won't count as hard inquiries on your personal credit. I just picked up the U.S. Bank Business Triple Cash for cash back for mostly the same reasons as you in that I went on a CC frenzy from July of last year onwards so getting a cash back focused business card to hit the SUB will allow me to slow down my velocity until I'm ready for the next personal card to pick up and churn. Plus the $100 software credit that comes with the card will make it a keeper card, so win win.
Business credit cards do count as hard pulls. except for Amex and you already have card with them.
Hey. I got triple cash. Not to much info as what actual counts towards “software credit”. Do VPNs? U had any luck seeing what codes appropriately?
@@newagain9964 I'm not sure myself. I'll need to do some experimentation. There isn't alot of data points out there. I have an Adobe Acrobat Pro subscription so I hope that counts
@@newagain9964 They are hard pulls but only on the business side of your credit history and not on your personal. At least in my case, that has been true as I use my EIN number as opposed to my SSN number.
I'm sitting at 10 hard pulls. I have to put myself in a timeout. 3 in February. By the fall 4 will be over a year old
The card I'm finishing is the United Gateway. LOL I'm getting x1 . 30k miles for a 1k spend. So I'm getting about 37% return at x1. Got the gateway so I could get the anniversary 5k miles for pairing the united business (100k miles) with a personal card.
FWIW I got approved with lots of inquiries, but I did open a checking account a few weeks before just in case- and to get a bank bonus
I agree with your point on not wanting to get credit cards just for a signup bonus. I only want to get cards that will have an actual use in my wallet, I don't want to get a card use it for 3 months then never touch it again
I got approved last week at 0/6, 4/6, and 7/24 with 9 hard inquiries lol
I had 12 inquires in the last 24 months when I got approved for the Altitude Reserve
Nice. Did u have accounts with US BANK b4 u applied?
I'll tell you what's impressive.
The very high percentage of your total users that watch each of your videos.
For this video you are at 132%.
2,800 / 2,120 .
32% more views than subscribers.
That's a very healthy indicator.
Now track the percentage increase week to week.
I really think I'd bring in the snowboarding. Let people experience that part of you.
3:12 this is why simple sets up are the best. Less thinking and better ease of use 🤷🏻♂️.
Talk to us about snow skiing or snowboarding.
Hey Jake! I was in a similar situation as you. I went ahead and signed up for the card anyway. The process was a bit different for me - a USB Rep called to confirm my information, and two hours later, I received an email stating I was approved for the card. If you're not afraid of rejection, you might as well apply! 🤷♂️
U mind sharing how many inquiries you had at the time of applying?
@@kevinManhattan at the time I had 4!
It’s nice to throw the credit card game right back at them!!! 🤗😎
Why can’t you get USB AR after 2 years already?
I just got approved 😎
Congrats!!
I can’t get into US Bank for the love of Karen!! Last year i opened a checking account and have kept 6 grand in it. 3 months in i. Tried again for a credit card and still no dice. It’s been close to a year now but now i feel like i don’t even want their stupid cards anyway. I may try one more time and if its a no go i will take my 6 grand elsewhere and never look back
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 I'm a dirty man.
Hey it’s Steve from blue clues
Jake, do you need help? Who hurt you?! Blink 4 times on your next video and we'll send a rescue team. 😂
Hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable. 😉
True, I need to chill
Keep 5/24 as your guide.
Don't do it so much for Chase, but as a guide.
I watch tidbits of these as satire. If that’s not the intention I hope you’re doing alright dude.
I could use some friends in NYC, other than that, im doing well.
@@jakemercure looking forward to meeting you in NOLA later this year. You’re unique in this space
@@WealthOfOpportunity I think it will be fun, I'm so excited to see everyone!
I only carry 5 of 18 cards.
But right now I'm carrying two more:
Citi Custom Cash & Double Cash.
DC 5% Dining Feb & March. With Custom cash groceries I'm getting 5% on all my food right now... witn no annual fee.
No AMX Gold Card.
No Freedom Flex.
5% all food....Except 10% UberEATS pickup w/SavorOne.
😂
You are too early in your journey to be this overwhelmed. Slow down. Be more strategic. Apply for cards with downgrade paths to strengthen your average age of accounts. Figure out your favorite hotel chain and airline. Stick to them and possibly get a card just for those. Later in the game you will value cash back and simplicity more. Altitude Reserve will be there for you.
Why don’t you just label your credit cards.
Dude, you sound like me playing ranked Tekken 8, that's not good
Not gonna say that I was first but I was first.
Write down your topics ,and edit, you ramble, while waiting for your brain to spit out your thought
First time viewer. You clearly did not strategize correctly to be able to get the AR. You definitely should still be watching experienced card YT'rs yourself. You need a wealth of more knowledge, young man.
You are the 🔴RED 🦬BULL🐃🐂 energy of the CC game. Remember, this is a GAME, some of them we win(sorta) and others we loose(or break even) and its ok. Once it isnt fun, challenging or rewarding....then just hit the brakes.
All gas no brakes lets goooo
