I am a 38 years old kiwi Asian, and I moved to NZ when I was 9. NZ is a place that’s very peaceful, with unbelievably surreal sceneries. Although I can’t deny that some bad experiences has happened to me - like the first day at school bus stop, a little boy waved at me, and opened the window shouted - hey go back to your fucking country. Or some rude drivers on the road. Yes, stupid people do exit, But that didn’t put me off from making lots of amazing kiwi friends. Even till today, I’m glad that my parents made the right decision of immigrating to NZ. We are still in mourning, but at the same time we are proud of JA as our PM- how she handled and responded. “ Hate will be undone, Love will redeem us.” - so here I am sharing my own experience, I’d also like to send some good positive vibes out- Whatever religion you believe in, whatever skin colour you are. May Love and Peace be with you all x

I saw alot of Pacific Islanders hating on White Kiwis in Auckland and even hating Maori Kiwis and Brown Maori kiwis making fun of light skinned half cast Maori Kiwis. When I say hate I mean insulting them because they are not the same as themselve. If this thing is reported alot then something would be done about it from the community or government but alot is not reported. I say to myself they have more years to grow and understand. On the subject of racism - Jacinda went into politics at a young age, because she saw how the Maori people in her town were not being shown the same respect as white people were getting.
So - when she became Prime Minister (as you do!) ... she immediately made friends with the Maoris - being one of the first white leaders to attend Waitangi
She also starts all of her press conferences speaking in the Maori tongue ... I thought all New Zealand politicians did that as a tradition, but no! ... she invented it! (apparently - I could be wrong ... and the sign-language thing as well) ... even if Judith Collins wins next week, I'm sure she will adopt this new tradition of starting every speech with a couple of Maori sentences. (maybe she does already - don't want to do her a disservice)
Because - when all's said and done - no matter what happens this election - Jacinda has, in just 3 years, revolutionised what is expected from a world leader, and opened doors:
First female leader in a civilised democracy to have a baby in office (yes, Benazir Bhutto ... but she tried to keep it a secret, it doesn't count!)
First leader to march in a gay pride parade
First female leader to ban guns in less than a month
First democratically-elected female leader to ever give a truly epic speech ("for we ARE not immune to the virus of hate ... but we can be the nation that finds the cure") [I consider this speech to be the best of the 21st century so far ... and a proper rival to any of the big speeches that Winston Churchill ever churned out ..]
Her election last time showed the world the best of New Zealand, and I know that they will do the right thing again next week.
