    Your dad has some great advice! The only thing I might change is instead of using the credit card as an emergency, have an emergency fund already saved up just sitting there. Then, you don’t have to go into debt for an emergency.

    Could you just let go of your stuff that you have in storage? Maybe go out there and grab stuff that you really want, but sell the rest or donate it to a charity. You can always rebuy stuff and you have been living there without looking at it for a year now. Before you have someone drive it out to you, do the math for and if it is way more than the shipping costs then it might be worth it to ship your stuff; if it is equal or less than the cost of shipping, just let it go and buy new.
    Also, don’t be embarrassed. This is the real world. This is more meaningful than those people that are living lavishly and recording it. You are more relatable.

    • @chinyereogazi
      @chinyereogazi 5 місяців тому +12

      Yeah the stuff in storage could’ve been bought 5x over with price she’s been paying for 3 years.been there,done that.

    • @jennav.4047

      Yeah, I have moved across the country 2-3 times now and each time I only bring what can fit in my car. Everything else I either donate or give to my family. The cost to rent a uhaul or have it shipped was too much. When I could have just bought new stuff with the price of the uhaul/shipping stuff. Now if the pieces are truly sentimental, that is the tough part.
      It’s been 3 years? Wow 😯

      I had to sell my entertainment center so I could get rid of the storage unit I had for a year. The price of the unit kept going up and I was stressing out over it. It was bittersweet, but just to feel that burden of that payment leave my body…I felt like doing cartwheels across the parking lot.

    I do enjoy watching financial vlogs! Your dad dropped some real gems. My grandfather always tells the story of how he paid for a house with a credit card because he forgot his checkbook at home, and when he found out that he could keep transferring that debt over to other 0% APR credit cards, he did. He paid 5,000 dollars for a house and never paid any interest on it ... EVER! because he used that method. I don't own a home, but I never pay interest on any credit card debt using that same method. It does take a little focus but it's so worth it. I look forward to seeing your progress, because many of us are going through the same thing. You're not alone and you'll get through it. Stay encouraged :)

    Give yourself some grace. You have a plan to tackle the debt and you're doing the work so you will be okay. You learned a lesson and MOST of us have been there. A shelter recommendation is the Women's Shelter in downtown LA. They should be able to give you a letter so you can write it off on your taxes. Don't cancel any cards you pay off, spend a little bit and pay them off to keep them active. Myfico credit forums is where I learned all the things to build and keep good credit.

It’s not a race the point of it all is getting your debt paid off and learning from this and as your dad said good credit and making good investments versus buying things we can really do without. @@jennyrieras431 ok, I’ve only had 1 credit card but then closed it a few years ago because I was hearing my co workers talk about Dave Ramsey and learning what he’s about, seems intense a bit lol and I would like to live life easier so I was thinking well having good credit would be nice to eventually buy my own house one day. I’m 34 and a single mom to an 8, 5 and 2 year old and trying to pay off my debt this year is my goal 🤞🏽 but I’ve been thinking about maybe getting a credit card again but be smart about it and build my credit back up.

    Great vlog, Kayla. Your dad is brilliant and helpful. I learned a lot. I'm a longtime supporter. What is your dad's UA-cam channel?

    Take 20$ per pay check and spend that on fun stuff and stuff you need like asprin or soap. Plan a food budget.yiu can get by on 100$ a month for food

    Folks watching internationally: please ignore the advice regarding credit scores as this is not the case in many countries.
