Usually older buildings mean better structure building since they been there for so long! Also now you see so many renovations going on that sometimes the outside doesn’t match the inside without mentioning older builds used to have bigger proportions compared to now a days, some new apartments are so expensive with such little spaces or no storage 😢
Down south older buildings usually have the most problems. It’s competition renovating much high for a higher price, you’re paying more just for the appliances not space.
Makes me think they just want money and can overcharge cause they can.

Hahah I live in a apartment building from 1965 😂😂 And it honestly feels pretty new somehow, granted I do live in Northern Europe so the vibes are VERY different from USA I guess 😅 loving this mini series already, can’t wait to see the apartment you choose and how you style it. Also live in a older apartment in the Netherlands europe and love it. So much bigger than the new apartments. Love my home. 2017 is new not old 😂😂😂
I’m from NYC our buildings are very old as well I previously commented at least from the 1900s and up.

Check out the Maryland side of the DMV that is closer to dc such as takoma park, silver spring, bethesda, rockville, or wheaton

Girlll check out the Maryland side of things! Epically the Hyattsville, College Parkish area, they’ve built a lot of things around there and are continuing building. Also don’t be afraid to speak up that you aren’t feeling it, (not enough lightening, need more space etc)when I worked in leasing when people told me there concerns it was easier for me to think of another unit that is available that they would like or an apartment that is about to be available. I’ve suprised a lot of people once they raised their concerns. Otherwise at least they know not to send you too many emails after you see an apartment there. 🤣
The apartments were cute, but I couldn't get past the packages being out like that. As a frequent online shopper I would be stressed. But with you being an influencer, OMG, stress to the infinite power! I look forward any tour you are willing to show us, as your safety is the most important factor with the content.
If you haven’t looked already try looking in the Park & Rose area of Bethesda they have all the amenities you said you want. It gives the same Mosiac vibe but WAY BETTER!!! They also have a real dog park, and it’s right outside of DC and on the metro.
Girl I’m from Texas and I live here now 😭 Rent is crazyyyy high.

@@kaylalashaevlogs yes it is! I miss it. The area that I live in is nice, but apartments can get a little pricey. Let me know if you want me to give you the name of the area. There are a lot of apartments that are newer too.
Fairfax, Vienna, Springfield and Alexandria all have metro stations!

I live near the Pentagon and love it!! Everything I need I can walk to (even tho I do have a car). I do live in an older building, but it's a large corner unit, tons of windows and my view of the monument and other landmarks in DC are top-tier. Quick Uber ride to DC. The newer apts are tiny. Don't rule out older buildings, especially if they have some units that are newly renovated. My girlfriend just moved to The Tides at the wharf, beautiful building and of course it's a Prime location. The apartments are tiny, but definitely dope.
Hey Kayla! Have you considered staying at home a bit longer and buying a house instead? 30-40k could be a down payment for a house instead of a years worth of rent, I’d love to see your home ownership era, especially since you seem to love interior design ❤

DC is over priced for no reason and let’s not forget the high levels of crime. I have so many clients leaving the city and going into Md & Va. Amenities are fine but what’s the crime rate in the area. And yes it’s everywhere but really know what u going into. Good luck
I’m living through you with this moving journey. I’m in Alexandria and it’s so expensive to live on your own this area. Hopefully I’ll be moving out a year after you! I think you’d like the Ballston area in Arlington or Eisenhower area in Alexandria. Good Luck, you’re almost where you want to be!

Dont do Alexandria. Especially this place called Mason at Van Dorn terrible rat infested place! I needed something last minute when i moved and didnt do enough research. I am now breaking my lease. Def do PG/MD side

Apartment hunting here is such a pain. I’ve lived all over the DMV, lmk if you need the tea on any buildings. The last one I lived in was AWFUL.

are you considering other types of buildings like brownstones / row houses also? I used to live in Maryland in a beautiful brownstone and loved it. there is a UA-camr who lives in DC in one, her name is Caroline Winkler.
I lucked up and found a 1 and den for $2165 in a lux building near a metro.

I live in a rented condo in Arlington for $1700 with utilities and parking included, no pet fee or rent. The trade-off was it is an old building and street parking is an absolute nightmare for guest. I’m looking to move as well, but to either Alexandria (my hometown) or another condo situation with added amenities.

I like this series and I would not move there. The package thing is crazy because anybody can walk in there and run out with those packages. But at least you got the first viewing out the way.

Apartment hunting can be exhausting but also its so fun. Would you consider touring a house for rent for comparison as well?
You should check out fort totten square and union heights in NE! You’d be surprised how many places you can find for under 3k in dc proper. You might also like Balston vA but it’s a bit too far out for me. I live in a 4 unit building in NE and love it. I personally think many amenities are overrated/overpriced but I understand why you want them! New here and going to sub ❤

Good luck looking for a place. It’s insane. Upstate NY, in a village, my hometown. A one bedroom is 1050. Brightside I only pay for electric

I would think prices would go up, not down, closer to start of college school year but also those people already locked in. Maybe look in Bethesda or Friendship Heights if you'd cross into MD.
normally its more in summer when the kids are out for summer break. poeple dont normally move around the holidays and christmas

The bedrooms were too dark and it had carpet. Plus what was up with all the doors? You had to open a door to close a door😂 This complex was a hard NO for me.
