What they’re lesser known for is the fact that the band is made up primarily of gay and bisexual people and how the band is especially popular with the LGBT community, especially since the song “YMCA” is a metaphor for coming out as gay. (Listen closely to the lyrics of that song and you’ll find out there’s a whole bunch of double entendres there too). So, basically, he was just quoting the video and making a joke out of it. That’s what his comment was all about.

I'm impressed at how authentic this feels as one of those 50s guidance films. Usually you can tell pretty when something like this is a parody - even in black and white and dressed in 50s clothes, the actors almost always still have a "modern" air about them that I can't quite put my finger on. I'm impressed at how authentic this feels as one of those 50s guidance films. Usually you can tell pretty when something like this is a parody - even in black and white and dressed in 50s clothes, the actors almost always still have a "modern" air about them that I can't quite put my finger on.
But having come into this blind, I was still on the fence on whether this was parody or something that just aged very poorly right up until "Dad likes to do his own teabagging."
