It was a non vinyl top car, but I wanted a vinyl top, so I went to the wrecking yard and bought the trim for it off another 72 Torino. The trim on vinyl top cars are different then non vinyl top models, and I wanted it to look factory. I replaced the AM radio woth a period, correct Ford AM/FM stereo. My car came with the rare rear speaker option. 351 V-8, Factory A/C. Same green color inside as my 72 Mercury Montego MX that was my first car which my parents bought new in May of 1972. It became mine in 1977 when it was past to me after they bought a brand new 1977 Mercury Cougar XR-7. The Montego did have the optional clock, drivers remote mirror, and courtesy light group which the Torino doesn't have but thats ok. It looks like it did when it was bulit in July of 1972. Your car is beautiful. I almost bought a 72 exactly like yours in 1987. Same gold colorwith a brown top and interior. It was also a Brougham. This one had a 429 V-8, most options including a factory rear window defogger. The 72 Torinos were the first to have the lines in the rear window for defrost. The guy wanted $900.00 for it and it was in amazing condition. I found out about this car while driving by it every day on my way to work, I decided that I wanted to take a picture of it. While trying to be stealthy and pulling up near the car. I rolled down my window and snapped a picture. A lady comes running out of her house demanding a reason to why I was taking a picture of her husband's 72 Torino. I told her that I was a huge fan of 1972 Ford Torinos and 72 Mercury Montegos. She was thinking ya, right. No, I love this car. Well, it's fore sale. I came back and looked at it. While I was talking to the owner, I told him that an acquaintance of my dads had one just like it. I saw it one time and that was in 1974. I told him what the guys name was. Really? Well guess what! I bought this car from him. Do you know if he worked at the Ford Plant. Yes, he worked with my dad at the Ford Plant in San Jose, California. Well that is a huge coincidence. I only saw this car one time in 1974 and here it is again in 1987. Unfortunately I had four cars already, and my dad would have killed me if I would have brought this one home. Just last week whole driving out in the country I spotted a 1973 Ford Gran Torino for sale. Very nice condition and has the rare optional exterior decor group that was only offered in 1973. I may have to take a closer look.

In 1972 a local pastor was rear-ended while driving his beautiful 1965 Mustang. It was a total loss. He purchased a new 1972 Gran Torino, dark green metallic with the gold striping, 429 w/auto. At the time I thought it was the most beautiful car I had ever seen. Congratulations on restoring your timeless classic.
In my 60 plus years, never had a Torino, but did have a pristine 68 Mercury Montego 2 door hardtop that I bought in 1980 with 42000 miles on. Couple years later, I had a 70 Ranchero with a 428 and 4 speed. A fun one I had was a 70 LTD 2 door with a 390. It was formerly a n Ontario police car ghost car, blue with white vinyl top and interior. Total sleeper on the street.
My ‘72 Torino story. Green metallic just like in the movie with the laser stripe. Grandma-driven, garage kept, zero rust, perfect interior, 40K miles. $800.00. Those deals are all gone. This was around 30 years ago after all.
Oh wow nice find yeah all those deals are gone along with the owners. Cool you got one like that though. Thanks for commetning hope you stick around for some other videos
That was a great video. I have a 1994 Bronco with the same engine, only fuel injection. I’ll just say the 351 Windsor roller block is pretty awesome. Plenty of power and sounds awesome.
Yet another memory lane video Max, great work from both of them to redo the car! Listening to it going down the road makes me ask, what mufflers are under it? I love the sound coming fron the exhaust! Kudos for saving yet another field find!❤

I recall in the late 80's seeing a guy with a green '72 Gran Torino at the junkyard. He had drove it there, but it wasn't in the best of shape. We asked him about it, and he said it had the big block (guessing 400) and that he was getting it ready for the demolition derby. At the time it was just a cheap car that nobody was interested in.
Yeah its funny how times change. People are still using the old mid-late 70s boats for those demo derbys but one day we will think that was a mistake too. Gotta save as many as these old cars as we can as the history dies with them. Thanks for droppin in hope to see ya in the comments again

Put it into the a$$ end of a van on Kingston Rd. at Birch Cliff rd. messing with the under dash cassette deck in the rain so the story goes. There's more cars and crashes but you get the idea.

Pretty cool that you and your wife resurrected this old Torino. Imagine many of guys are envious that you have a wife that is into working on vehicles. Very rare.
Yeah talk about a dream team... we gotta get this video around to all the women in our lives to set a new standard haha! But in all seriousness I am equally as lucky as my wife helps me with my 72 Nova which we are building/filming for this channel as well...
You dumped a 4V Cleveland for a Windsor? I don't think I'd would have done that. Still a beautiful job. I have a 72 Cougar with the 351 4V. It now displaces 426 cubic inches and roller everything. 551hp at 6000 and 6500 rpm, and 548 lb. Ft. torque at 4500 rpm. It never goes under 440 lb. ft from 2000 rpm and up.
Lot of people do this it seems. His buddy Gilles who he references to in the video dumped a windsor into his 1968 Mustang and its a pretty cool ride, with a 5 speed from a foxbody. That video is on this channel too. Lots you can do with the fords
Awesome glad you approve he did a killer job for sure. If you like Mopars you may wanna stick around we have some Road Runners and chargers coming up in the new season. Also have a couple Mopars in previous episodes on this channel. Thanks for commenting hope to see you again
Really nice job resurrecting that car! But, what about the air conditioning? It being a factory air car the AC should at least look like it functions. I say this because I did a complete rebop on my '73 Ranchero's air, everything except the evaporator and duct work. Doing 90% of the work myself including fabricating the refrigerant lines and making an aftermarket parallel flow condenser fit still cost me about a grand three years ago. It is something that needs to be done to complete the job, eh?
Not sure what Tony's plan is I know he plans to keep the car for a long time. I would see him getting that fixed one day though. Thanks for watching and commetning
I bought my first car in 1988 at 14 years old. It was a1973 Gran Torino Sport Sportsroof, 351CJ/C6. I kick myself for being young, dumb & not keeping it.

I had a 72 GTS 351cj 4spd car from 98 til 21. It was rotted also. Got a parts car from cali with a 302 auto. The 4spd swap was not easy with the donor car even. The sports gauges needed extra wiring. My wife was on me to sell it for ever. It wasn’t a show car and wasn’t getting finished. We were in a tough time and I decided to sell the car to help save my marriage. Sold it for 2500 and all the parts from the other car. I know it was way underpriced but I was tired of fighting. I used money my mother who passed away in 88 to buy the car and wasn’t up to the internet negotiating. I miss that car so much. And she left me in 23 anyway. So I have nothing to show for any of it. Great car! Enjoy it for me…

Great job. 72 was the best-looking Gran Torino.
I had a 72 Gran Torino with a 351 Cleveland and duel carbs
Nice ride Joe hope to see you in the comments again ...
Beautiful car
Oh yeah. Thanks for dropping in Chris got lots of cool restoration stories on this channel if your curious
@@saigawesnovember awesome man thanks for watching. Broncos are great Any gen in my mind. I have a 22 but I like all the generations they're all cool
Yet another memory lane video Max, great work from both of them to redo the car! Listening to it going down the road makes me ask, what mufflers are under it? I love the sound coming fron the exhaust! Kudos for saving yet another field find!❤
Thanks for the awesome comment. I will have to ask him about the mufflers yes it sounds mean. THanks for dropping in as always Gerry!
They are flowmaster 40 series.
@@tonymaddex1659 Thanks for the information, God speed!
@@tonymaddex1659 thanks Tony! Nice to see ya in the comments
Like the manual transmission !
As somebody who only has manual cars I would have to agree, nothing like having complete control... and a little bit of fun! Also dropping a newer transmission into my Nova which we are building on this channel. Thanks for droppin in
Where did you find a wife like yours? I am green with envy. Well done !!!!!!
@@bryce1916 I think we are all asking that question haha!
Sounds great, nice car, great owners.
@@Brianscoronet glad you like it Brian. We have a story on a 1970 Torino coming out this winter. If you liked that one I'm sure you'll like that one too
Awesome I miss my 74
I bet. Would you ever try to find another?
@@SubdivisionAuto
Have been Mine was white Interior brown with Copper like Trim in seats 351W dual exhaust I was always a Mopar fan I have 3 of them but always had a Soft spot for the 74
automatic thumbs up
Good for him but never would i seek out that car. Now a 70 fastback Torino with a 351 .
Well if you like the 70 youll love the video we got coming up this winter. We have a 70 Torini GT with a 429... and he murdered his tires for the show. Hope you stick around for that
Another amazing video...does that restoration look familiar? Hat`s off to them amazing job.
@@scario64 Tony goes to the Friday bells corners meets I believe from time to time.
Best friend in high school and '70s had a s*** brown one that his dad gave him when he got a new car. 302 I didn't love it. I like the color and scoop.
s*** brown lol that comment killed me. That was good. Glad you approve of this color !
@@SubdivisionAuto Ginger Bronze with Med saddle int.I believe. Put it into the a$$ end of a van on Kingston Rd. at Birch Cliff rd. messing with the under dash cassette deck in the rain so the story goes. His dad traded it in for a new White/red 78 Newport Custom with a 400. I liked it until his Dad put it into the Queen st. bridge over the Don river less than 2 yrs later. There's more cars and crashes but you get the idea.
Your Wife is a keeper
I think every guy watching this video would agree!
She most definitely is
The big blocks need more horses.
Women he said it right notice things us guys dont he is right.
@@biglazybilly oh yeah the amount of times I sanded my car and my wife found something I didnt is almost embarassing .
Please. Stop interrupting the guy? Or edit out yourself interrupting the guy? Otherwise, pretty decent bud.
Will do thanks
Wife that actively hands on helps you restore a car, Wow. 👍👍
Tony hit the jackpot on that one let me tell you. Speaking of which you should check out the previous episode of this show on our channel it's a 1969 Camaro and it was restored by a really cool lady Annie Marie. Impressive as hell let me tell you. But also lots more stories like this on our channel thanks for watching/commenting
Beautiful car ❤
Sure is glad you like it billy. You should check out the job his buddy Gilles did on his 1969 Mustang, also on this channel. He is the guy who introduced me and Tony and man his mustang is something else. Thanks for the support and watching/commenting
that's same year and model, I think?
as the car in movie Gran Torino
@@willyhwang1059 you got it. Only difference is the one in the movie was a fastback. But nearly the same thing. Personally I actually prefer this one over the fastback but that's just me.
Man thats one beautiful 72 Ford Torino man.
Glad you like it CJ. thanks for taking the time to comment. You should stick around we got some real cool episodes coming like a 70 Torino GT this winter. Lots of cool restorations on the way and even more already on the channel.
@SubdivisionAuto Awesome brother, I'm subscribed to you're channel as well.
Thanks I really appreciate it and yes actually we make a pretty good team when we're doing things together
I dumped a 2v Windsor for a 2v Cleveland in my 73 gran torino sport.
Lot of people do this it seems. His buddy Gilles who he references to in the video dumped a windsor into his 1968 Mustang and its a pretty cool ride, with a 5 speed from a foxbody. That video is on this channel too. Lots you can do with the fords
48 years ago i drove a fairly new Grand Torino Sport. I was for for sale. 351 4v. What a friking Tuna Boat. Forget about it 😒
Thats a very nice build! Definitely a winner with the manual box. Your wife did a great job of the paint, too!
Nice car with a great story!
Thank you glad you liked it. Hope you stick around and check out some of the other stories on this channel we got lots of awesome people/cars!
sorry to say but the 351C is a better motor probably the best small block to date.
Beautiful Torino! Well done and that care makes sense! I would love to have it. This is coming from an old mopar guy
Awesome I was born in 88 good year! Most people kick themselves now who would have thought how things would go. But hey if you keep your eyes open you never know there may be something nice that will catch your eye. Always someone selling something interesting Dwight. Thanks for dropping in hope to see you again
Great car! Enjoy it for me…
Oh man thats a really sad story my friend... well it sounds like you gotta start the persuit for happiness and maybe you cant get that car back but im sure there is another out there for ya. Make it your mission and find something that will make ya happy, you only live once.
The best part of this video i enjoy was hearing about you and your wife working side by side Creating a lot of beautiful memories together restoring this Beautiful 1972 gran torino
That is the best part for sure. They enjoy the car very much. Hope you stick around and we see you in the comments again.. thanks for commetning.
My first car, at 18 years old, was the same 72 Gran Torino but light blue exterior with medium blue cloth interior but it was a base model. I fell in love with it because like you, I loved the body style. I'm amazed at the condition of the seats but most of all, the condition the dash cover...no visible cracks! I wish one day to own another one. Take great care of it.
Great story Rene. If you really want something you can find it... and I hope you keep searching because its out there. When you do let us know you found it! Thanks for your story hope to see you back in the comments again
That is the best looking Torino, Gran or otherwise, I’ve ever seen. I’m very envious.
Its a nice looking car indeed. Curious what you will think of the 1970 Torino GT we got coming up this winter. Now thats a very cool episode too hope you stick around.
The entire front clip is 1 year only ,I also have one but 429 cobra jet.
Oh wow I didnt know that and sweet engine to have 429! we did another episode on a 1970 Torino with a 429 comes out this winter if you wanna stick around. Thanks for the info
98% humidity year round in texas !!! It's the salt on the roads that rots them
Oh yeah salt is the worst man... here in Canada it ruins the hell out of cars. I was looking for a nova for 13 months (its all filmed under the other show on this channel entitled rustorations) and man I saw 60 cars it was bad. Its unreal what it does. But hey people like Tony made it happen thats why we film these stories
This is Mr Bill that's a great looking car dude I love Torino's
Nice seeing a restoration of a model that's not "a dime a dozen".
Yeah got more of those coming up soon as well. Got some beaumonts and a 1970 Torino coming up! Hope you stick around for those ones
My dad had a 68 torino 390 V8 And a 74 montego with the 351.. Both cars he loved dearly
Thats awesome good memories I'm sure. Do you own a classic yourself or planning to get one?
@@SubdivisionAuto i just bought a new 2024 elantra Nline. Lol far from a classic

With the big 394 and set of glasspacks ...my dads first car he ever owned. He had a few nice cars, as a child my favorite one was his 79 Cordoba with Tbar roofs . it had a 318 4 barrel. And he put thrush glasspacks on it...sounded mean .
@@SubdivisionAuto in the ford family im a torino fan , 68/69 GT being my favorite. The 390's and 429's were no slouches. A friend had 1 like starsky/hutch car with the 460 V8 was pretty cool. But that fastback 68/69 was sumthin else....greetings from Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island!
Had an acquaintance years ago who who had a 72 Torino fastback with a factory 429 smog engine that I begged him to sell me, but wouldn’t part with it. A few years later, I hooked up with his ex and she told me that the car had been sold to a crusher so he could buy crack. Total shame that I couldn’t get the car.
Oh man that is literally the worst story ever. Dont even know what to say other than sadness is a too real emotion. Thats just shitty. Hopefully you were able to get another car since then you enjoy
Oh man that's too bad

My sister had a brand new 1972 green Grand Torino. I was never a huge fan of the car back then, but I’ve gained a huge amount of respect for the vehicle as I got older. That and watching the movie Grand Torino !
