    Such a bitter-sweet story. We can all identify with the everlasting heartache of the one that got away. I'm sure that Gilles will not forget that day. My condolences for the loss of his Dad.

      You can see in his face he is happy for the car...we get attached to these cars and when we sell one I think we all hope it will be taken care of and not neglected....I think I would be pleased with this outcome if it were me

      @@SubdivisionAuto I would be happy to see my first car in person, the family car that I learned to drive in! Well, I saw my 67 Dart GT in a dealer video from the Netherlands! The current owner is in Germany. He sends me pics or a video every once in a while. It's amazing that it still exists.

    I still own my 74 Charger SE since July 1995 as my very 1st car. There's always something timeless about the 71-74 charger B-bodies. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.👍🏁

      I still a photo of my Mom's then brand new 1974 Dodge Charger SE in metallic grey with a black vinyl top and louvered rear windows. It only had the 318 but I was a toddler in the back with no car seat so I liked it. 😃

    This about brought a tear to my eye, My first car was a 73 Charger that my dad gave me 25 years ago and I hate that I traded it off. What a awesome story and a beautiful car

      Yeah pretty common story, it sucks this kind of stuff happens now knowing how rare and special the cars have become. The 73 was a nice year for the charger still sorry to hear it had to go at the time...

    That was absolutely an amazing episode...to see the look on Gilles face....priceless....to actually find his old car and for it still to be local was great...A day he will never forget.
    The tribute was a great touch....a sad but happy episode.

      100% he didn't want to show it on camera but it's hard not to notice it in his eyes. It was the hardest and best day for him at the same time as far as I'm concerned. We have spoke about this since and he's happy people like his story but at the same time this stuff has lit a fire under him and I know there will be a Mopar in his life again. Not sure when where or how but when it happens I'll make sure everyone who watches this channel sees. He also appears in the first episode of the Nova search restorations series when I was looking for my own car. Thanks for commenting hope you stick around.

    I sold my 72 SE 440 4 speed 10 years ago. It was really hard to let go after owning it for 30 years. My dad had cancer and we needed the money. Sadly my dad passed away 2 years later . I still miss the car but I miss my dad more.

      Indeed I wish we could make that happen but unfortunately the car is extremely rare hence the value is astronomical. That said I can tell you this much, there will be another mopar in his life and you will see it one day on this channel. No idea how, where or what but he will have another car one day he is looking.

    There was an EV2, N96, bucket seat U code one in Gatineau for a LOOOOONG time, it had MaxWedge setup on it till the mid 90s then got sold and lost track of it. Al has an amazing resto shop and has some NICE Mopars

    I too was 17 back in '86 when I got my (71) SE Charger 440 slapstick with full package except AC. I miss that car. But it was my first and a lot of great memories. Can't afford one these days but sure is nice to see them.

    My 1st car was a 74 Satellite, 318 2 bbl. I actually beat a 3:38 79 z/28 on the 1,/4 mile! It was painted with a Starsky and Hutch colors. It was my 1st 1/4 mile race!

      Thanks Dave, I know he wants to buy given the value of the car I dont think its very realistic. We are actively trying to find him a new Mopar he can call his own.       @@chargerguy74 My 1972 had 440 with automatic trans, ram air system, white interior and hemi orange exterior, rally wheels, in fact it was a rally coupe car so it had the 5 reliefs on the doors...Cut long story short, the car was heavely exposed to salt for its first 7 years of life, so I completely restored it in 1980, new inner and exterior fenders also inner and exterior quarter pannels all factory parts, after that, the car was parked in a heated garage every winter time....Looked like brand new....Sold it in 1988

    Glad he was able to see it and it's beautiful. Out standing. Buddy of mine had one in rootbeer brown , black top. 340 and a 4 speed. Back in 78. Hope I can be this lucky with my old 69 roadrunner I sold in 81.

    Looking at the engine bay @ 23:09, that's a lot of blue, too much blue. Is that oem colors or Dudes taste? Educate me, blue hood hinges, blue intake, so much blue it's giving me the blues

      OEM colors he made it look like it did out of the factory to retain value. But Yeah oldschool look for sure not for everyone.

    I drove a 72 Rallye Charger 440 U code car in high school in the 80's. It was yellow with a black bucket seat with center console interior and the slap stick shifter. Great car.

      @@SubdivisionAuto It was definitely nothing special at the time. Trust me I did not feel like an elite at all. Back then these were used cars and they were unwanted by almost everyone. Paid all of $700 for it in 1984. Remember that this was coming out of the 70's when the oil embargo was still fresh in people mind. They were considered antiquated gas guzzlers. I can tell you all types of stories of used muscle cars in that era, when they were cheap and no one wanted them.

      Yeah its a sad story but don't worry the story is not over. No we cannot get the car back thats pretty unrealistic but we are looking for other cars such as Dusters, Darts, things like that. We will for sure follow up with this story because Gilles is a great guy and I want him to be happy. I loves all the commnets in the videos. Thanks hope you stick around

    I had a neighbor that owned an all mopar junkyard, and he had a had a 72 charger se that was petty blue. I was going to buy it from him, but he could never find the title. It was a factory sunroof car, factory hidden headlights, and was originally a 400/727 car. He put a 69 383 in it. It had 10” wide aluminum slots on back and 6” appliance mags on front. I’d still love to have that car. Sadly it got sold to a person who used the sunroof roof for his 73 charger. Same neighbor also had a real plum crazy 70 ta challenger.. that car was a theft recovery car he bought with no engine. He put a 440 6 pack in it. That car got sold when he died

      Ah man thats too bad what a waste... hopefully the car was kept around Im sure a title could be found somewhere for it. Plum crazy 70 challenger is the best color in my mind super nice looking car. Still lots of hidden gems out there if you look hard enough. Im finding there are a lot of old school owners who kept their cars in barns passing away now and theyre popping up all over the place.

      Yeah he is the top Mopar guy in town in terms of restoration and collection. He saves cars in the worst of conditions so he's very good. You'll see him again he has a dodge Daytona I really want to film. But we also have some other Mopar videos on this channel if your curious

    In the middle to late 1970s when I was in high school, I rode many miles in a 1972 Charger owned by a friend. It had a lowly 318, but it looked extremely cool. Impractical, but perfect for teenage potheads to cruise the streets. I get the appeal of this car, especially with the Big Banger under the hood.

      100% Al is the top Mopar restorer here in town. There is no one who's better than him so his standards are crazy high. All his cars are pristine. He had several cars in the Chicago car show and they all scored over 990\1000

      Agreed but at the same time I get what the current owner was doing he took it back to factory for value. But I loved the previous look so much that I'm going to paint my Nova very similar. That's the build project we are working on this channel

    Sometimes a car is more than a car to a car guy I know I own a 72 Gran Torino sport fastback always wanted one for as long as I can remember even before the Clint Eastwood movie came out bought it in 2011 going on 13 years now

      Yeah I think so too. Despite its kind of sad I will say this much, he was really happy that we were able to do this. And at the same time it's not the end of Mopars for him. Even though it's been almost 3 decades since he's owned one there will be a Mopar future for him. Not sure what when or how but there will be and I'll make sure we film it.     I think after 1970 horse power dropped, not 72 and from talking to engine builders, reading and watching, compression started dropping in 1969. Although Chrysler may not have advertised it, test engines compression ratio before being rebuilt showed the true story

      By the way, my 1968 charger when rebuild was 10:01 and my friends 1969 road runner was 9.5:01, his car was the 383 rr engine and mine was the 383 4BL car. We both racing to get our cars finished, he’s going with a Kieth black rebuild and mine is just going to be a factory rebuild

    I hope he keeps it the second time, I'd do the same if I could reobtain the first car I ever got which was a '75 Camaro in 2012 that I got for 3k I just wish I never traded it, lol feels weird to still have the keys to it

      YEah sadly we cant buy this car back its about 150k due to how rare it is and in the shape its in. But that said we will find another car we have been looking around. This time he will keep it and enjoy it! 75 Camaro nice!

      @@SubdivisionAuto I agree it is crazy how expensive old cars go and keep going for, but hey Idk about 150k tho maybe if for having over 150k in it if that's the case but usually more like 5-80k for just the car in it's used in original factory state condition and 80k is for a high end Charger from '72 in original factory state unused still in mint condition, prolly my fav gen Chargers they just needed more Standard Chargers I really don't like automatics

    Awful hard lesson for the kid. I went off a icy road into a pine tree, And totalled my mom's year old Honda Civic. The state trooper that came to rescue me. He says "It'll be alright kid; everybody hits a tree” that was like 50 years ago.

    Crap, why did i have to watch this while im at a crossroads, about to hit 40 finally in a house of our own with my childhood fun car sitting in my driveway needing a full resto, Do i sell to be able to tackle new challenges and live a life of regret? Do i accept that 25 years in auto detailing means sometimes the hardest fight is at home and to buckle up buckaroo!

      Dont sell it. I have spoke with too many people who regret that. Its never worth it. If it takes more time to get to it it takes more time but once its gone you wont get it back

      Yeah I can see how people would think that and at the same it can seem cruel. Trust me I wish I could just go and buy it back. But him being my father in law ill tell you this: 1) the car is worth well over 100k so not possible to buy it back 2) He was emotional and sad but really happy at the same time he got to see it again 3) it motivated him to start looking for a new Mopar. We are looking for a new car together, when we find one we will update people on this channel. The story is not over yet... thanks for watching

      @@SubdivisionAuto The market is dropping for cars there is no way that car would sell for that much in the US maybe 50 k here. I just seen a Hemi 68 Bee for $69,000 running turn key and he has had it for a while hasnt sold. Even the second Gen Chargers are dropping and the Barracudas and Cudas / Its a good time to look for Mopars the prices are dropping the 3 rd Gen chargers are not high n the price chain

      Wasn't meant to torture him if I had 150k I'd do it but can't say I do. I know it may seem somewhat cruel but he was really happy after this video came out. And that said it out a fire under him and we are looking for another Mopar for him. He always wanted it back but knows that's not possible. So not sure how when or what but there will be another Mopar I'm his life and when it happens I'll make sure to update people on this channel on it

      @@SubdivisionAuto a gold 1976 Camaro. Loved that car but like an idiot I got a bug for a 73 Chevelle and sold the Camaro. Next time I saw it some kid had it,it didn't have a straight body panel on it!

    its nice to see old cars appreciated but at the same time collectors ruined it for us average people. they were normal people cars new and now they are a pipe dream to have on a blue collar income.

      Yup. Im not a fan of collectors who just hoard cars for the sake of having them. This owner is differnt he saves the cars which are usually in bad shape and he's easily one of the best in the business. Really talented hard working guy deserves every car he has in that garage :) But yeah hard to get a classic for most people these days other than buying a beatup one and restoring it (which is what I am doing)

    Very beautiful, moving and touching tribute to Gilles and heart warming story as well. The 2nd owner did one hell of a job on the restoring and restoration of that one ☝️ of a kind magnificent, spectacular, splendrous and wondrous ride and to take the man out for a ride and spin in it right before he went on home to glory in that great mansion that’s prepared for us all in the sky when time comes.
    I am not your average typical African American 🇺🇸 Male I appreciate and admire love❤️💕💗 and respect🫡✊🏾 very heart and warm stories and videos like 👍🏾 this one1️⃣☝️.

He was here today and I've never seen him so happy. And he is motivated as ever to have a Mopar in his life again now that he's back on track. I've had mixed comments on this video some people say it's nice some people say it's mean because he can't have what he once owned. But I'll tell you this this story is not over. Since we filmed this it reignited his passion and we been looking for a car. He also suffered a heart attack last month but he survived and we are making it a priority to find his next car.

      Oh man I wish we could buy it back but it's super expensive due to how rare it is. That said we are all looking for Mopars. So he plans to buy another one. Not sure what yet we are looking at darts, chargers, dusters and a few others. This story isn't over yet I will do an update on this channel again!

    18:34 Brilliant idea, take your dad to see his old car that was a piece of garbage when he owned it, knowing he couldnt afford to make it any better, which he didnt ever do, never could have, and take him to see it with someone that was able to put money into it and make it a car he never could have made it to be, just rub it in his face!, Brilliant idea to do to a dad.

      Cars like 150k only twenty some made it here. If it was a Honda civic or something would be a different story. So no they didn't let us drive it but he was happy to see it and he's on the hunt for a new Mopar now . Cheers
