This came up on my recommended video list -- and I'm glad it did. What a unique design and project. I've bookmarked your YT channel and will go back and look at other things you've created. I get the feeling they will be awe-inspiring, too. Thanks for such clear instructions.
@@ciciKoenig The material I used for the reindeer is called Flat Fiber, you can also use basket reed, red cedar, or anything else that is flexible. Flat fiber splint is the same material as rush used in chair seats...except flat fiber is flat and rush is round. We use it in chair caning. It is thick, strong, paper which comes in various widths .... 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4. In chairs we seal it with shellac when we are done. Unlike reed, the chair can then be used on a porch without mildewing. I like using it on stars, reindeer, and crosses because of its flexibility, ease of use, low cost.
Awesome video! Such clear instructions are a breeze to follow. Thank you so much! Am sending you an email for the graphics file and spoke weight pattern. Happy New Year!
Wow! This is beautiful and you give excellent instructions! I will have to try this. I am currently making some fabric stars similar to this, but am wondering if I could make this size of star out of fabric that has been stabilized with Ultra Bond?
Thank you........and yes, I have seen them made using bonded fabric. Send me an email, I think I have some pictures of one made with fabric.... bka916@gmail.com
Either one works just fine.....I prefer the Glue All because it is water based, easy clean up, no electricity required, and.....I can't burn my fingers with it!....lol...
Have you ever tried using flexible wood veneer tape ? At Hardware supply stores they have wood veneer rolls for wood trim. That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the material you were using. I’m thinking of trying veneer wood tape. An since it’s sticky on one side it would be easy to put paper, fabric or glitter to the sticky side. Or it might be all a hot mess 😂🤣lol.
I have not thought of that....but I would encourage you to give it a try! I am always up for learning new ways of making these. Please, share pictures with me when you finish your project. Those always make me smile.....
You absolutely can do that... and I used to cut them that way, but I could never get them exactly even....as I tried to even them up, I ended up cutting too much off.....I decided cutting them at one angle, like a pinwheel, what much easier for me.........
Beverly Ashton Vickers Thank you so very much for answering my question. This is the first time anyone has ever answered a ? On You tube. I just learned this past Christmas how to make these with fabric and loved making them for package tie on’s & ornaments. I have not yet made any large ones yet. I also have an old laser back chair that belonged to my mom. It had a basket we’ve seat that has since wore out . Have you ever used your weaving technique to make laser back or any chair seats weaving with the materials you have shown in the video I’ve watched? My biggest problem is the arthritis I now have in my hands& fingers.
@@revajobeattie1839 .... I have also started using double sided glitter card stock to make these stars.....they come out really sparkly!......I am not familiar with laser back chairs.....I have woven chair seats with the flat fiber, as well as, splint reed, shaker tape, and cane. Send me a picture of the your chair....maybe I can help you decide what material would work best for both you and your chair.......here is my email address: bka916@gmail.com
The spoke weight in the video was hand made.....you can get them from most basket weaving suppliers. If you would like my tutorial on how to make your own, send me an email at bka916@gmail.com and I will be glad to forward it to you.
Hi Beverly - thank you for posting this video. I first watched it last Christmas and started making the stars out of thick holiday wrapping paper, but I am going to attempt the flat fiber. Thank you for commenting with your supply source. Can you tell me/us where you found the small clips? I can’t seem to use the correct search terminology to find some. Also what do you think about using wood glue with the fiber? Thanks!
Thank you, Leah, for your kind words. I used two different kinds of "small" clips in the video. The ones with the plastic red ends are Alligator Clips.....I actually get them off of eBay and they come from China.....they take about 30-60 days to get here, but they are less expensive then ones which come from a US seller. The small black clips are regular binder clips (approx 1/2") that you can buy at most any office supply store......if I remember right, I bought mine from Sam's Club. Hope this helps....
@@beverlyashtonvickers I just saw this video and fell in love with the design...could I possibly also have the template please? Also where do you find the weaving material? Never done this before and anxious to try. Thanks so much.

Out of curiosity, is the material called "flat fiber splint"?

Why wouldn’t you cut the 4point ends at an angle to keep with the design of the star.
