    Very interesting documentary. I feel it is unclear (based on the witnesses) if the vehicles were secured in a correct way. Althugh, my experience is that we as passengers doesn´t always notice when they do that. They may have done it after the passenger had left the car deck and usually I think they unchain the vehicles before the passengers are allowed back into their vehicles. I think it would be important though to check if they have moved and if there is any evidence that they were chained. Another witness say that the ferry had a very high speed which also could contribute to the sinking. A crew member, I think from the engine room, saw a lot of water on the car deck and that is a problem. It doesnt answer though how it got there. However, witness Rolf Sörman, states that he was surprised that he could exit the boat in the front of the ship and was being dragged back into the ship/possibly the car deck where they say the recently discovered hole would be. Is it the same hole?

      The hole was in the front where the visor had fell off and dragged down the ramp (also supposed to be the watertight security door). It was no more hole in the ship. The ramp was badly twisted but some of the hinges where intact so it opened and closed when the ship moved.
      The construction of the now was really bad and not certified for open sea, still Estonia was holding the highest speed of all ships that night. All others ferries had lowered their speed due to the bad weather...

      @@joakimwohlfeil Yes exactly, the ship wasn't built for open sea routes - the routes between Stockholm and Finland that it had been working during its first dozen years are mostly within or close to archipelagos, keeping down the force and height of waves that you can get out on the wide open sea - and there had been a lack of upkeep on board. The ship wasn't in a good state, and not really seaworthy for a night with rough weather (practically storm) out at sea, but with bribes and some company goodwill you can get around such problems.
      After the disaster many people reacted in a mood of "how can a big, modern ship actually get sunk by a storm on the Baltic Sea? There has to be something completely murky buried here!". Well, its perfectly possible for a ferry like this to sink and it wasn't the first time it happened with similar car and passenger ferry ships (Herald of Free Enterprise, Jan Heweliusz etc) , but many people just refused the idea.

      And how can we know if that little hole was the reason that he felt he was being sucked into the ship? maybe it was the Big hole that made him feel being sucked in. Or both holes.

      @@MysticianLuna_VG Yes. Those who made it were picked uo by the Finnish and Estonian rescue helicopters. The Swedes picked up 5 and instead of loading them off on the other ships they went home to Stockholm. The rescue passen ers and crew were locked up in there cabins so they Could t interact with Each other or passengers. 2 Police helicopters landed on the ships prior to arriving to Stockholm. Then The people were send to Södersjukhuset and Huddinge Hospital. Same thing. Locked up in rooms. NO one interviewed them. The crew vanished. No, you are just telling lies. I was on site in the rescue work from another ship. Winches failed on some helicopters but it was not all. There was no interruption in any rescue work but as people only have seen pictures from the morning it's easy to forget how pitch black it was. We could only see what we got in our spotlights from the ship, the lights on lifeboys etc.. was hard to spot in the hight seas. A lot of people died in the darkness as it was hard for both ships and helicopters to work. And the sea made launch of lifeboats impossible. Today every ship has at least ine retractable boat on a ramp. That was a learning from this disaster

    So, a human interest story about surviving Estonia? Almost social and emotional porn by TV4, I am sorry to say. I think this disaster should speak for itself.

    • @rasmusisaksson7838
      @rasmusisaksson7838 3 роки тому +23

      I disagree. This is the only documentary I have seen where the survivors tell their stories, without any profit-seeking film maker or conspiracy theorist influencing the narrating and trying to make money out of it. There is Your real "porn" by the way. It was very emotional for them of course, that is not hard to understand for any person with some degree of empathy, and also for the people of both Sweden and Estonia. It is still an open wound where we started to questioner the sense of living in a secure and tehnological advanced country, that in my opinion we often take for granted. It is important not to forget this event in history.
