You do these "run along" feel good videos really well. Talking about local spots along the way and also training stuff and future races etc... enjoyable to watch ben!
I raced the MCC on UTMB with these Zegama yesterday. I usually run with Salomon shoes, mostly slab ones, so I'm used to very precise and light shoes. I bought the Zegama to test something different and see of the zoomx foam really had something to the package. After 42km and +2500m I am really happy and surprise by the shoes. There are really comfortable and supportive. The grip is not bad but not as good as Vibram outsoles. It does the job on dry terrains. It's not a precise shoe but it remains quite stable, I don't have any problems on chamonix trails with it. For me, the big concern is the weight, I think Nike can do much better, but otherwise I really happy and really surprise by this shoes. I will use it more on my trainings (I live in the alps) to see if my first impressions are confirm. I just can tell that it was the first time on a 40km trail race that I finish with no pain on my feet! I don't think there are only made for long distance, I think it depend on what the runner wants. If you want something comfortable, easy and really plush, the Zegama will be perfect for you. Be carefull with the sizing, there are really true to size.
Eastbourne my home town, Downs at the back off my house, I'm up there all time, so beautiful. Great video seeing the South Downs way. Enjoy your new home.
I just did the NZ Tarawera Ultra 50k in these, They are amazing! they feel like super grippy marshmallows Awesome grip, good pop, nice lockdown feel, and ben was right they defiantly help save your legs. I got 2 blisters at the 48K mark but i think that was from me not using the shoes enough before the race. and it was just cool to be one of the very few people out there not using Hoka or Asics
This has to be the first and only positive review I`ve seen of these, most say that the Zoom X is almost none existent....each to their own I suppose but loved the video.
Did 16.5Km yesterday which is my longest ever Run.. Me & My legs don't feel as tired as I thought today. Congrats on your New place. You're both a Fantastic Inspiration! 👍
Hey Ben - great video! I recently hiked the TMB in 10 days. It was incredible but couldn't imagine running it all in one go! All the best for UTMB, I'm sure you'll smash it!
@@BenParkes Thanks, it was awesome - I want to go back already! Can't recommend hiking it enough. Hopefully the scenery will help the miles pass a bit quicker during UTMB!
I remember seeing the runners on the Southdown 100 back in June, whilst attending the Queen Elizabeth Parkrun, by 8.45 they had already completed a marathon! If you get chance try the Durlston Country Parkrun (Swanage) scenery, and challenging (643ft) plus you can add several minutes to your normal Parkrun time!
Initially I bought nike trail shoes (Peg Trail 3) just to help giving me comfort while out photographing birds in the local park and I'm not a runner. Then I bought the Zegama, it is so comfy that I started enjoying running too.
South African runner here. I intend to do my 1st 2 Oceans Ultra next year so hopefully I’ll see you there. But 1st its my 1st Comrades Ultra in 3 weeks time 😬💀
Great Ben doing the Two Oceans is an awesome race this will be my 7th and I am training for comrades now in 3 weeks. I know this was on your bucket list. So hopefully you will get to do that as well some time.
i live right near eastbourne and do my sunday long run on the south downs every week, absolutely love it there, my favorite place to run! i saw you both running along the a27 on sunday near the bridge, cant remember what time but probably between 3 - 4.30 and you both looked great! :)
I have lived in Eastbourne for 32 years, I am running the Beachy Head Marathon for the second time in October. It is considered one of the hardest in the world. BTW it is Hampden Park not Hampden.
Awesome to hear you are coming to run two oceans. Absolutely awesome race, you should try come to a Tuesday trails for a meet up. Chappies and Constantia nek are legendary tough climbs but the setting is amazing. Good luck for UTMB🤩
I love the South Downs Way, my brother in law hiked a 50 mile portion of it over three days back in September 2020. I really want to go back and run it, or some of it. Problem is I live in the FLATEST part of the UK so hilly trail training is hard to get 😂 Congrats on your house! Looking forward to hearing all about it sometime.
Great video Ben, I guess the elephant in the room is that the Zegama is not pure ZoomX like Alphafly and Vaporfly but is mixed into a carrier foam mentioned below, so more like the Zoom Fly 5, which has not exactly set the running world on fire. Still, if it works for you, that's great!
Nice run video. I really enjoyed watching it. Yours was the first positive review of the shoe. It is pretty heavy for a trail racing shoe. BTW, it does not need additional protection in exposed places because it is encased in SR02 foam so ZoomX is not exposed. You should really look into Saucony Xodus Ultra 12. It is a better shoe IMHO.
I love the feel of my Speedgoat 5 but can't do more than 10 miles in them as I start getting blisters on the heel...gutted! So, this review is really interesting, particularly as you mentioned they were a bit wider, thanks Ben!
Great vid as akways, I just got the Saucony Xodus and am heading to Chamonix mid September for a week of running/hiking. I'll update as to how they work out.
Hey Ben! Two Oceans is going to be a great experience. Such a beautiful route. Also aiming to do it next year. Would definitely be keen to meet up for a run and chat when you are here!
“The Lord Jesus Christ has sent this lovely tap here…” I enjoy each one of your videos! I love them because running is as it should be…fun! I finish a video ready to go and enjoy a run, even if I have already completed a very long run for the day! Keep getting it done!
Thanks for this video! I’m making the same decision for my mountain ultra- tried and true Speedgoat 5’s….or take a chance with the Nike Zegama. My course has technical sections, 5 stream crossings and some wet rocks/mud…so probably the SG 5’s for me…but we’ll see.
Have you tried running in Dynafit or La Sportiva shoes? I feel their models are much better suited for technical terrain than Nikes. Would love to see Sarah's kit, too!
The shoe looks like the Wild Horse 7, but with different laces and ZoomX instead of React. My favourite winter shoe, the only thing it doesn't like is ice.
I'll be honest, I hoped for a lightweight racer with a nicer stack height and decent outsole from them based on the name. I've got them, tried them, and felt a little more disappointed by them than you are. They're not a shoe for me, and I don't really see why they produced them when they already have the Pegasus. Highly recommend trying the Saucony Xodus Ultra - incredible shoe.
Yeah.. a lightweight racer this shoe isn’t.. more of a shoe for long ultras, to look after legs after many hours of running. They are quite different than the Pegasus, my concern with that shoe .. for UTMB.. was the lack of cushioning for longer runs. Are you going to return them? Or keep them and see if you like them with some more use?
@@BenParkes I'm going to give them a couple more tries, but they just feel too big and clunky to me so far. I got Brooks Cascadia-style vibes from them. I've got the Xodus Ultra, Speedgoat 5, and Speedgoat Evo's in my rotation, and I feel that they all outperform these for what I'm after. I was hoping for a 4mm drop replacement for my G270's! 🤣
Ben, it's a nice looking shoe and looks comfortable but I wonder about it's suitability on technical trails, namely the high stack height and the loss of ground feel. The Zegama tag is ambitious - Zegama is quite technical in nature - just wonder if it's not more of a 'runnable' ultra shoe. Be interested to hear further thoughts. Love your videos and the personalised note from your Mum with my 'tally' gettingitdone hat ;)
Was that the Timp 4 for Sarah? I'm finding the new Outroad very runable for light trail and road/trail, could be a nice counterpart. Worth a try once it becomes more available.
Thanks Jennifer. We’ve had a lot of people reach out.. so kind. If you drop me an email Ben@benparkes.com then we are going to put a few people together who may be able to help out. Thanks very much for your kind offer!
I haven’t tried them yet.. I did try them on in store.. but at €220 ish they were a bit expensive. They have a carbon plate in, so quite different from a speedgoat. Will try them eventually!
@@BenParkes 2 plates, nice return without being weird on uneven ground. Pretty light too. I’m loving mine but I haven’t had many other trail shoes to compare it too.
I have considered it.. I went to the Salomon shop and tried it out, but they didn't have my size.. and then haven't tried looking again. So many shoes to try!
@@BenParkes short lugs, grip only good in dry, average on loose stuff...for UTMB and approx. 25-30 hours where everything can happen I would go with a reliable outsole for all conditions, no way you wanna go down from 2500m in wet with the Pulsar Trail, dangerous...and even if the lugs on the Zegama Look decent, it's still the Nike compound, therefore most likely close to no wet grip...
They are very well signposted.. it always helps to have a map on your watch, or phone as a back up.. but being a national trail, they are very well looked after.

Is it recommended to run on the asphalt ?
You can run on asphalt in them for periods of your run, but it's a shoe that's deigned to run on trails and off road.
the short answer is no. as its not designed for asphalt and would wear out the traction sooner than expected. This is a TRail or offroad shoe.
