Sports Direct were offering Nike Pegasus Trail 4 Gore-Tex for £55 (50% off) but sadly only in size 14! All other sizes were £110. I was ready to pull the trigger until I noticed that. 😞
Hmm, not quite convinced by this one. Think I would prefer the Hoka Challenger as a Road to Trail shoe here. This one seems a bit too heavy for an outsole profile that barely offers more than a regular Pegasus.
If I had to pick one for lower price, would rather pick Wildhorse8 than Pegasus trail5. Wildhorse8 is much more capable shoe for less money. O And Zegama2 is really good, enjoying it so much!
The GTX version has appeared on the Nike site as coming soon however there’s a rather mysterious mention of it utilising an Air Zoom unit with the ReactX. Must be a mistake, surely?
Great review!! Just miss 25% at Nike, but was waiting for a review that help me about the grip on wet rural roads (mostly tarmac) and wet sidewalks. How do you compare it with Velocity 3 PumaGrip , specially on wet sidewalks? Cheers
I bought these beauty’s but I order them just in my number the they fit exactly . Don’t have any space left and wondering if I need to take 0.5 bigger . Does anyone know if they get softer as you ware them ??
I've got the Gore-Tex Trail 4, they did an excellent job when I took them out in the snow! Great in the winter, not sure I'd take them on a trip to Benidorm though.
Shoe seems promising! Just picked up the Salomon Pulsar Trail for off-road shenanigans. Side note, off to see Roni Size and Storm @ the Jazz Cafe soon!
@@EDDBUD sold out unfortunately! Hop on the waiting list if you can. It’s a celebration of pirate radio music, going to be a banger. It’s the Jazz Cafe in Camden 🙏
@@that_which_is_not Oh blast. Sounds amazing! I used to travel in on the bus to London as a young lad with my Sony Walkman that had a radio built in. Exciting times!
I'll stay with my Ultraflys, just bought another pair as Nike had a big discount last week. They were of course way too expensive when released last summer but now the price was quite ok.
Been enjoying the Wildhorse 8 this year, might check these out. I do like the look of Nike’s recent trail shoes, even if many have a way to go performance wise.
Ran another hilly 15 miler today in my Saucony Axon 3. An absolute joy to run in, especially now the pwrrun midsole has been broken in. As a midfoot striker who prefers lower drops, these are my favourite shoes in terms of pure running enjoyment by a long way!
Interesting review Edd, amazingly I've never run in any version of the Peg but this one seems like it could find a place in my rotation at some point. I've actually just picked up a pair of Adidas Terrex Agravic Speeds (not the Ultra version with energy rods) for a similar price to the Peg Trail though. Not run in them yet but look a quality pair of lightweight trail shoes with a dual Lightstrike/LS Pro midsole and Continental rubber outsole. Will report back but think they could be up your strasse too- they look like an Adios 8 for the trails!
Love my peg trail 4’s nearly 300kms into my second pair, great on road to light trails and gravel. Way better all round than peg 40 which was awful imho… can see the 5s coming into the cupboard.
Damn that's a chunky weight, especially for a shoe without a rock plate. Yeh, nah, as they say here in Australia. Wouldn't work for me on our usually very rocky dry trails.
Just picked this one up yesterday! Been running roads mostly so didn’t need an aggressive trail shoe for the gravel trails I’ve been running. Was a pretty smooth ride on 5 miles this am. Probably wouldn’t take it much higher than a 15-20 mile run. Zegama 2 was tempting but a bit overkill for me on beefiness and price at this time.
The outsole looks just like my salomon S/lab pulsar and I suspect has better cushioning at about 1/2 the stack and the size 9 is about 6.4oz..I find much better shoes by staying away from big names..but Nike probably has the best marketing out there..
I have a slightly flat foot ,weak ankle and narrow feet should i buy this? I haven't bought any nike shoes before 😭🙏🏻 please recommend too tysm xxxx Edit: Thank you for your honest review too! Will definitely buy this if it's good for my feet 🥺
Hey there! Would you recommend this shoe if I like using my shoes for trail, road, and treadmills? Would it feel ok on a treadmill? That's my biggest concern. I truly want a do it all shoe or as close as possible 🙏🏽
Please continue with DnB recommendations from your youth:) they are fantastic. I may pick Pegs trail version when they eventually go on sale for routes that require to travel a mile or two to the proper trail
Being a well traveled modern gentleman I'm sure you know this, but there's no such thing as "buffed out US trails", it varies widely. The trails in the Mid-atlantic and Northeast regions are probably more like UK trails than you'd think, plenty of bog, plenty of mud, plenty of soft shoe consuming wet clay. Great review as usual though, MIGHT give this one a go
It makes we wonder what they produce it for. As it’s not an out and out trail shoe neither a road model. I think my home town and Portland have lots in common. Much rain, ( it’s raining now! ) and probably closer to what you would use a standard trail shoe for. But this is close enough for me
@@EDDBUD With the new tread pattern I think they are probably producing it for a sort of "rail trail" or light park trail type setting. I have taken previous versions on technical trails and while they work, the outsole grip was abysmal. Sometimes I think they make the Peg Trail to walk around the mall and go to the shops =)
You might want to look at a pair of ankle boots tbh. Tying laces at the ankle takes pressure off feet. A rigid midsole preferably with a shank for support. Maybe even a pair of Blundstones? Or Caterpillar Colorados. Come to think of it a wedge sole would be awesome with a shank. Something like a Redwing Moc toe which I think were actually designed to be worn on factory floors. When you consider the amount of top grade leather and build quality that goes into Redwings theyre actually well priced when compared to other shoes.
I've always thought that a trail shoe without a weatherproof upper is pointless and this shoe does nothing to change my mind. It could be okay for an every day trainer for shopping trips and visits to the pub, though.
@@EDDBUD Good point, Edd. I've never noticed it with my Puma Voyage GTX, but I've always been more worried about rain and sludge getting in my trail shoes than moisture finding its way out.
OK a trail shoe to keep in mind for a years time then...when its £50 to £80. Would be good to see you testing out more trail shoes on South West coast path or something...
I was pretty seriously ill for a long time and have a lot of “old” shoe models that I still enjoy wearing. Thanks Ed. In my opinion the Merrell Morphlite a better option road to trail or the brilliant Agility Peak 5 which can handle more technical stuff. 😉

Great review 👟 Did my review on these recently as well. One of my favourite all rounders 👌
And just like that, the Pegasus Trail 4 gtx goes on sale for €72 on Zalando here in NL. Straight in the basket thank you!
Good choice! Enjoyed that shoe for similar reasons to this one
@@EDDBUD yes I ended up directly on your Pegasus Trail 4 review which gave me the confirmation bias I’m always looking for 😂
Hopefully if they do make a GoreTex model, I might consider. My Peg Trail 4 GTX still holding up

The Puma is fine for that. I did appreciate the lug depth on grass and smooth concrete though in the peg 5
I would wait for the Wildhorse 9 instead
Is this a good shoe for traveling in urban areas?
Don’t see why not. Some good grip there
Sounds like a non-plated competitor to the Puma DN2
It’s not massively different though more outsole and more weight
Should I get Hoka Challengers or Nike Pegasus Trails for hybrid road and trail running?
Haven’t tried the challenger but really like the Pegasus trail
Pegasus
Would you recommend for road running
Pegasus plus or the adidas sl2
Can use this pair for Hyrox race ?
Don’t see why not.
Thank you ! Shall give it a try in my Hyrox race
Heavy plus a water soaking sponge of an upper to make it even heavier. Always so close yet so far away with Nike.
Think will wait for the GORE-TEX version and the Peg 41 but this seems promising.

Picked up the GR11 colorway. In my opinion, this is the best value modern daily driver Nike has ever made.
Great versatile model. It’s quite a good fit for me and not to baggy in the toebox
Hi
🥇
Hello!🙂
My puma velocity 3 does the same, from road to trail.
Like most Nike shoes these will go on Sale and I'm going to buy one at 50% off, a pair of the Zegama 2 too
Loving the novablast 4 TR version for easy trails and road to easy trails . Also a good shoe to consider if looking for road to trail shoes .
I did a 60k in the trail 4 gore Tex. Didn’t even have a blister
The v4 was a good shoe!

I can confirm as a lump the only shoe I have worn I didn’t bottom out over 5 miles is the ASICS gel nimbus. Thanks for thinking about as larger lads.

It’s a good allrounder. Bit of a Botham shoe
Shoe quality.. crap. Weight..increased. Only plus in my view is the new foam
The quality is spot on this time. The weight is a little more than the last one but still lighter than an invincible run in my size

Yes this one is probably one of their best available retail shoes in fairness. Some of the other line up is mystifying!
Agree that the weight probably limits its versatility
The low toe box is so low my big toes always hit the ceiling in the Pegasus trail and I want to like it but it simply doesn’t fit because of this…😢
Like the width here. Doesn’t taper as much as the standard Pegasus
'Traction' pun very much intended! Good vid as always, unlike Nike's snooz-a-thon shoe offerings!!
This is the better daily type shoe we have seen in a while. I see tons of people using these

Invincible 3 for mega cushion or perhaps a peg 41 for something a little more down to earth.
