I'm not sure if you're still responding a year later, but it's worth a shot: Is the paint holding up a year later? Any peeling or fading? Did you sand/prime it first? I'm planning to paint my BB droid, and I really don't want to sand it, even if it'll help the paint adhere to it more. BB droids go through more stuff than R2 since their heads constantly scrape along the surface, but I think it would be worth a shot to try without sanding. I plan on priming it though. Honestly my only concern is if it'll be much harder to repaint it if my paint job fails, but I'll think about that another time.
For Prep, just wash everything thoroughly with Dawn dish soap and water let completely dry. I use a primer/paint (spray paint). All my paint jobs still look great. I do put 3 coats of satin clearcoat (spray paint) at the end. Now for the a BB I would do 5 coats of the satin clear coat, just because of rolling around on the ground. Thanks for watching, and good luck
Btw your sons Droid came out beautiful. I am working hard to get my Sandtrooper done for Celebration Anaheim (🤞🏻if it happens). I have a great suggestion if you want in the future for your next build. If you are planning to build a dirty droid. Go to Trooperbay for fullers earth. It’s looks great on my armor!
I use a mix of paints. For the base coat a flat spray paint, the rest is acrylic paints and citadel miniature paints. And a satin Clearcoat spray paint for the finish.
Send me pics of your droid when you finish it, my Instagram is @atomic_tauntaun. I have another droid to paint maybe in a week or so. My issue is I have to many ideas and only one droid. Lol
Atomic Tauntaun my problem is I don’t have a droid yet!!!! I live near Disney world Orlando and was taking my fiancé to build both our droids for our birthdays and boom corona virus hit and we’ve been waiting for the parks to open 😢 it sucks being season pass holders and not able to do anything
I did the same thing to my droid that I made an August 2021. It makes it your own and it doesn’t look like a factory pop out. Yours is awesome
That's awesome, and thank you so much. I need to stop being lazy and paint my other droid.lol
