I don't understand how you can think this song is worth featuring; important issues, perspective, etc., YET you recommend that your audience not explore his other works? Are you even familiar with his catalogue? Ren connects people to their humanity and to each other. I know you are incorrect when you say Ren is lacking hope. He's overflowing with hope, and shares it generously. Thanks for the reaction!
Honestly, check out Eden, Penitence, Heretic, Ready for You, Depression, Insomnia, Dominoes & then tell me that Ren isn't trying to engender not being afraid of tough subjects with love, understanding & patience!
Because they are believers. They’d let their kids read the horrors contained within the Bible like incest, slavery, murder, sacrifice, genocide to name just a few, but a few swear words!

I was in a dark place......this song pulled me back and gave me the strength to move on. I love RENs music he is a fantastic artist.
I agree, when he stands up in de video I get goosebumps everytime. He sings about hope and in that moment ik can feel hope.
He's a genius, He says it so easy, it connects and changes how we see things around us, And how we can deal with ourselves without Psychologist, and medication, and the battle with his inner demons.

I'd don't care any more the Intrusive thoughts "inner demons" can fu*k off when they come, it's what I tell myself and have been the last 3 years, then I met Rens challenge and OMG. My favourite all time Rap singer now, Apart from eminem, and dre and all then guys!! Everyone has such a different flow but I think REN just blows the Real raps Out of the water with a subliminal messages that are helpful and hopeful

Im gald im still alive, and I'm happy I pulled through, and I just literally came across Ren less than 2 months ago, as I was at the stage of becoming better, mentally.. And REN just blew the lid of the rest of my worries and fears, I already know what the government, doctors are trying to do. I've been well knowledged about this for a VERY long time.. He is just honestly Onna different wave length to any other rapper I have EVER heard off. The wordplay and the factual stuff his plays in along with it is just mind-bending 💀
It is not sad that 22 million people connect with this! He is amazing and full of hope. I am 50 years old. My son has suffered in illness for 24 years and NOONE has helped us but Ren has literallly changed my life by giving me/us hope! I don’t care about his language. Just words and if you have suffered like he has (look up his story) and my son have the last thing I give one flip about is language. His language helps show his emotion and that is what is important. That is what makes him different. That is why he connects to so many- because he is raw, he is talented, he is real and he is hope personified.
I think his point there is a bit misunderstood. It's not sad that 22 million people connected with the song. It's sad that 22 million people have suffered so much in life that this speaks to them so deeply. It's sad that so many people have felt hopeless at some point in their lives, that they struggle so hard. The connection itself isn't bad, its the reason for the connection that is heartbreaking and he feels empathy for all who have felt like Ren has. That's just my interpretation of what he said anyway.

For everyone else reading this, you have all read REN comments for his videos and know full well how different they are from other UA-cam music comments.
I respectfully but totally disagree. This is SUCH a positive, hopeful song!!! He sings about, and in his actual life shows, how you can balance darkness and light and so learn how to dance through life, accepting that sometimes it is very difficult. Having read many comments to this video, I can see he has helped a LOT of people and saved many lives. Everyone has a dark and light side - it’s part of being human. I recommend you watch his 5 min thank you speech for getting million subscribers called Defining Success.
I agree. I think Christian expectations for spiritual purity and the consequent guilt born of failure can cause a great deal of mental turmoil. Ren addresses that - "for we are human beings".
Typical pastor. These are the guys who claim god said they need a private jet. Over 40,000 different protestant denominations. They represent nothing more than selfishness and division. They can’t even agree amongst themselves! They Broke away from the original church set up by Jesus Christ himself and removed scripture from the bible. These Protestant pastors are not to be trusted! 7/10 they are complete liars and hypocrites!

The trouble is that ren perfectly breaks down peoples need for the comfort that it is something bigger than us rather that a shared yet personal struggle with the good vs the bad in our own heads. Folk that have found a more comfortable answer to this are not likely to challenge that view any further because of the security it gives them. The irony is that they arrive at pretty much the same time place but for different reasons.
Johnmoore, I disagree. I strongly believe that you are selling Ren and those who have found his work short. Rather than finding and sticking with that comfortable answer, I believe that it opens the majority to search for that which will support and fulfil them long term. Having watched a number of his videos and listened to his album, I think that he's managing to "promote" people to religion rather than disconcerting people away or settling for comfortable.
I also believe that the struggle Ren portrayed is far more powerful than any sermon I have sat through on overcoming that inner voice trying to drag us from the light.
Ren gives more hope than the pastor does
My therapist introduced me to Hi Ren a few months ago. He was misdiagnosed with Lyme Disease and suffered for I think 10 years before the doctors figured it out. He went through so much pain and torture with medical and mental battles. He also lost his best friend to suicide and was only moments too late getting to him before he ended his life.
I am 41 now but my life was shattered at 25 by an auto immune disease that at the time put me in so much pain and a wheelchair was my future. When I turned 30 I had a new mysterious illness that was worse than the first. My church family (esp pastor) watched me leave the 99 and left me on my own. I felt alone and abandoned and if not for my mental breakdown in 2020 (before lockdown) I would have possibly succeeded with my many plans since the 7th grade to take my life.
For me this was the first time not only with this song but by others Ren has written and composed…here was someone bringing to light to the torture of understanding pain with no end. Here was someone who has the bravery to tell his story to help people like me who struggle with the mental and physical pain in I face and battle. No church people helped me with that.
Thank you for stepping out and speaking on this reaction video especially on a Christian based community podcast that might people who do not like it. The battle is real and we are warned several times we do not fight against flesh and blood but the powers of darkness and evil.
I don'y know why people think he's ok now, health wise. He's better than he was during his misdiagnosis but he's still seriously ill. We only see him on his 'good' day. He's still in constant pain, tires easily, has severe autoimmunity, is still allergic to virtually all food, meaning virtually the same meal, every single mealtime. He remains, at present, unable to tour. He still has depression, adhd and ptsd and has frequent days where his body, brain, or both just aren't functioning. He still has mast cell disease, which is potentially much more serious than Lyme disease as, unlike Lyme, it's progress can only be slowed, not halted. He has brain damage, extensive nerve damage, damage to his bones, joints and internal organs. He's on heavy and extensive medication, with a host of side-effects. As I said, he remains in constant pain. There's some hope that the experimental treatments he's been undergoing in Canada, for the past year, will bring some improvement but there are no guarantees and much of the damage is likely permanent. As is the autoimmunity, unfortunately. As is the mast cell disease. Ren puts on a brave face and things are considerably better than the 10 years of absolute torture that preceded more recent times but he's still suffering. We just have to hope that new medical discoveries or treatments emerge in the years to come. However, one of the problems with a lot of these chronic illnesses, is that there hasn't been much serious research done. So far, at least... Fingers crossed. :)
@@Codex7777 I agree 100% with your point of view. For someone suffering from mental illnesses and physical painful trauma and suffering I feel these comments are more of a response to the fact Ren didn’t give up and with his long journey he bravely keeps going.
As someone who was called a liar about my illnesses and seeking attention I was pointing out that Ren was a different voice to me. Someone was articulating the struggle of pain and not giving the superficial things people say.
"I'm the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope" is the line that always gets me. I feel that pain and I think it's important to hear hope articulated in such a poignant way. I've been there, and something told me not to. Hope, God, all of that. This song is pure hope in a life with darkness.

Your story sounds so similar to mine, Naomi. I finally got a good number of diagnoses after fighting for them for _years,_ (thankfully not the whole 10 years that is the average time it takes to get a chronic illness diagnosis) but there's still health stuff that's not understood yet.
One of the things that's given me the worst trouble is finding help for the Intractable Pain diagnosis. It's just assumed that you're wanting to get high, when really you'd just like to live a mundane life! I know that Ren's music will continue to help people who have experienced these kinds of struggles long after he and I are both gone, and I think that's beautiful.
Teens should 100% see this video. Stress, hormones, pressure (internal and external) - they will absolutely connect to this and it will help them hope. Feel less alone.
You DON'T want people to check out his other works? Ren restored my faith not only in people and humanity, but my belief in God as well. God forbid if people find help in some other way than lining a pastor's pockets.

Coming from a Catholic, I think this is one of the big issues with Christians. They don't see or understand anything other than the word of the Bible. If you listen and truly think about the lyrics, it is absolutely beautiful. This is a huge issue in the world today and Ren puts it out there so people of all backgrounds and ages can relate and find HOPE. He is an inspiration, a real life, breathing inspiration; not words in a book that was passed down through hundreds of years that people have to decipher. It's not a bad thing to open your mind.

I'm a Christian and love rens music. And I agree with you a lot of preachers/pastors only see it their way and a lot of the time try to dumb it down so much that the word of God loses all meaning and push people away from the church and religion. If the showed the good bad and ugly of what's taught in the book they are more likely to believe and understand.
Same here as a Christian I’ve listened to this song at least a dozen times. And his other work. He is an artist. Any religion needs to find the lost souls and fully understand those lost souls as much as they do their Holy book. How else can you help them find salvation.
Everyone here is refusing to listen. Everyone is so mad because they love this song so much, I get it, but the dude is not wrong. It IS incredibly sad that so many people connect with this song because that means that SO many people have suffered in similar ways. Its incredibly sad and I dont see how it isnt.
The choice to censor the language was made so that younger viewers arent exposed to it. They stated very clearly that people watch this channel with their children and some parents actually care about what influences their kids. Its a crazy concept, I know. And telling those parents not to seek out the rest of Rens catalogue with their kids is also understandable. Ive listened to every song Ren has on youtube and I wouldnt let my kids listen to the Tale of Jenny and Screech or Sick Boi. Thats not what kids need to be exposed to. Ultimately its their choice and honestly, it was the right choice to make.
Aside from all of that, the review was positive and thoughtful. The pastor (sorry I dont know his name) is very right in stating that Ren hasnt had his "Hope moment" yet, hes still struggling, hes still having this battle, hes still sick. Again, where is the pastor wrong?
I get it, this song has a rabid fan base that expect nothing less than a glowing review calling this song a work of art and praising Ren. And if someone dares to not be 100% blown away the Ren simps storm the comments and throw a fit. Completely ignoring the fact that there wasnt one dishonest, malicious or really even negative thing said about this song. But because the pastor didnt fall to the floor and proclaim Ren as the second coming of Christ yall are losing your damn minds. Its sad to see.

How can they see this as lack of hope? He has fought something horrible, and is passing hope to others as he danced back to the light. Just because they have the eternal light in their peripherals, doesn’t mean many others don’t find hope and light in this.

I agree this song is about hope and his journey. It's about hope embracing the little to make it out the dark.
I have been a member of my church for 18 years. I battled with some of the struggles ren touched on. I wish this video was around when I was younger. It would have helped and given me hope to know I was not alone. He is helping many people that are struggling. Check out the song seven sins that just came out. Take the time to understand his journey and why he does what he does 🙏
I believe everyone should see this video. Kids, adults, in-between, believers, non-believers, and in-between. A few curse words shouldn’t deter anyone from this young man’s light.
Life is gritty. It is sinful to teach people to fear words as a mechanism to prevent healing discussion. Pain is messy. Suffering is improper. Clutching pearls and fussing about gritty language is actual obscenity. Let children learn how to be human.
I'll agree with you except for kids. And this depends on the age of the kids of course. Older teens, sure, I'd be comfortable watching it WITH them. But I have a younger son around 10, and this is simply too heavy of a topic for him. It's not about hiding the tough aspects of the world from our kids, I don't subscribe to that. But kids of a certain age still hold onto some of that child-like innocence and just hope and happiness. And while it's important to introduce them to struggle and challenge and realistic aspects of failure and learning, we shouldn't be in too big of a hurry to wipe that innocence off them either.

If you listen to all of his work you will see that he is a very good and morale young man. No little children are not able to understand what Ren is saying. But as a great grandmother who is a Christian I do see and understand what he is saying. I too have struggled for my lifetime with autoimmune disease. So maybe I understand it better because I have walked in his shoes. Please don’t judge before you have looked more closely at all of his work. I think you will find that he is trying to bring light and hope to people. He is raw and he is honest. As a Christian I want to reach out to him and tell him to please hold on. Have we even wondered if maybe the Lord is using Ren to bring hope and strength to people who suffer what he suffers? Because I have learned to suffer just like Ren. If one couldn’t learn to suffer one might choose to end their suffering. But Ren advocates standing strong in the fire of the pain. I think this young artist is truthful and sincere. I think he is doing a ministry of hope for those of us who do suffer daily. I will stand in the fire of pain with him because I have learned to relax and suffer myself. It is what my Lord asks of me. It isn’t easy but it can teach both the person who suffers and those who must watch deep faith.

But it didn’t go over their heads…you pulled out one comment and out of context. I watched a Pastor be attentive and compassionate through this whole video and not give the “church people” kind of reaction. I saw and heard humility which isn’t found in church settings a lot. There was empathy toward those of us (like myself) have battled and are still fighting the war of the mind.

I think what's annoying people with this reaction is that it's all tinted with that particular kind of American puritan/evangelical style of thinking - as if any 'uncomfortable' or 'undesirable' state is defacto 'bad', or should be 'got ridden of'.
Whereas most secular/agnostic/non-religious folk would likely say that's a deeply 'sad' misinterpretation of what it means to be human; it simply would not be 'what it is' without suffering, without the 'other side of the coin'. Yin and Yang and all that.
It's a common annoyance people have with religiously-minded people and I do get it myself, because it comes across as dismissive, especially when it comes to art that deals with serious topics and so on.

And, you are correct that we are all suffering in one way or another. Most people suffering with mental health are looking for relief. So it's not something most people enjoy suffering through. My son has suffered for several years now, he does accept it, but it's pretty much destroyed his life.

So Ren has an ability to draw deep emotion out of the listener because he can express those feelings in a simple way with his lyrics that few have before.
He reflects the human condition all of us experience but dont share.
I dont care what your faith is or even if you have any, this is spiritual because he shows how we as humans find our own inner strength to endure life. We inately hope, through our darkest moments we still find hope.
That is our humanity.
Ren has touched so many and created a community with no judgment, understanding, and vulnerability. He has shared his deepest pain that we connect with.
He is an amazing once in a generation talent and lyricist and has no boundaries.
You wouldnt know hope if it punched you in the face. This is a very positive song filled with light and wisdom but you choose not to see it.
The only hope Christians need is their faith in the afterlife. Personally, I prefer my hope grounded in things I'll actually see and do within my life here on earth, I don't need the 'hope' of an afterlife to make me strive for good and renounce the bad.

I am a Christian, and I think that anything claiming to be Christian, but not promoting Hope and showing the Hope we have through Jesus Christ, is not truly grounded in Christ. Christianity should always be about Hope! God Bless man.
Ren is a good example of how agnostic people, like he is, can borrow from very familiar Christian imagery to move to a better please without being Christian. We all have to move through the dark and the light, and absolutely not have to take on Christianity to find a way through it all.

Agnosticism is the only logical "belief" system, the world would be a much better place filled with only agnostics.
Ren is not agnostic although he may appear to portray himself as such being the wise lad that he is knowing committing publicly to one belief system is counter productive to his message and art. He wears a cross on his right ear and his use of Christian imagery and concepts hint at his world view which what Christianity actually is rather than being a religion. Catholicism is a religion but outside that church Christianity may be cults, splinter groups, movements or businesses. Most great artists know the presence of a cosmic loving and intelligent force that influences their creative process and performances. And they are no fools thinking that they are great in their own right. That being said their experience of the cosmic Divine means they are highly turned off by organised religion or rigid structures of dogmatic theology. These great artists are the prophets of our modern times because they are free thinkers and the Divine refuses to be placed in a man made box because it is infinite and free. I mean this when I say it: "Ren is part of the Jesus movement" but irreligious.

Personally, I find Ren's music & raw, honest & AWESOME! I am so grateful that he exists, he has a Platform & he's using it, what more could you ask for? And with social media the World doesn't seem so big anymore, there are people suffering with health ailments &/or similar experiences in life too so when you can find someone like Ren who helps you feel less alone it can only help those who feel so isolated, misunderstood, different etc.
I've never met Ren & I don't have to because he is constantly in contact with his fans, he keeps people up to date with his Health & where he's at because he knows we generally care about him & vice versa! Nothing sad about that at all!
Ren has raised more awareness, cash, etc than I've ever known any Church member to do, I'm still waiting for my Pastor to have time to visit me despite my asking for a chat 11 months ago! A phone call wouldn't hurt but I'm told the church will send someone out to my house at some stage, wow!
I lost my ability to walk on Xmas Day & have no outside help so "Ren" has become a lifeline to me, his music helps me feel settled in a world gone cold & selfish.
My kids (12 & 9) both love Ren. The 9 year old said "this guy gets it" when listening to Ren's songs. Check out his other works, bc he is a fantastic artist and human.
The reason so many connect with Ren is because he is real, he is the voice for many of us.

This is a humanist song, it is built from the foundation of morals, sympathy an empathy that never stopped evolving (not a pun).
Mental health issues is something that won't get cured in the darkness, it must be in the spotlight for everyone in society to get educated on so that those suffering from it won't feel shunned.

You were correct when pointing out that Hi Ren has 23 million views which in a way is sad because of how many connect to the song....meaning there are so many millions of people suffering in this sad world. On the other hand it's fantastic an artist like Ren makes music to help just those people. I absolutely ADORE Ren, a beautiful human being in all ways. Thanks again for the great reaction.

This is my first time hearing this song! WOW!!! Hit on so many emotions
Ren back story went years misdiagnosed with depression bi polar chronic fatigue syndrome he had a recording deal in 2010 with Sony why working on his album he got really sick and couldn't finish it so they parted ways he moved back to Wales he got so sick he became bedridden for up 23 hours day they had him on meds that caused him to have psychosis it would take years before he got right diagnosis of Lyme disease he went so long misdiagnosed that he has Brain damage Organ damage Joint damage he got PTSD too but not from meds he had 2 stem cell transplant done he also has ADHD he in Canada right now getting treatment done he has to have IV 5 days a week they put this thing on his head that help open path ways in his brain he can only eat 2 kinds of beef and few Vegetables because the autoimmune causes his body to have allergic reaction to just about everything he eats Ren play guitar drum piano bass he produces his own music mixes his own beats beatboxes sings and can rap he has band call the pig push he had number 1 album in Uk October Ren can do any Genera of music

Athiests are the same as any other religious believer. You think YOU know how the universe works but the truth is none of us do. I don't think any religion is correct and evolution is far more likely than any religion however I think there is equal possibility that we are in a simulation of some sort. Watch his song "Seven Sins." Don't care if you react to it, listen to it. As for profanity, younger adults (I'm old) use profanity casually. It does not hold the connotation it had for us. If you let people's language shock or bother you, you've cut off all possibility of communication with them. Ren is, musically, talented in a way that only happens a few times in a generation. He's going a long way if success doesn't corrupt him. He seems to have his head screwed on right, so I don't think even the music industry can change his course.
For the younger people it is just words. Even coming from a religious point it's not blasphemy as he's not taking the Lord's name in vein.
"Hi Ren" connects to MANY because of the recognition we find within ourselves, something locked down through generations or an event from last week. We all have our own stories of reality. Just like people, religions come and go. Sometimes what comes next is good. Sometimes not. Just like people.
The world is no more or less broken than it has ever been. Humans do that. Well. Sometimes those with the money and the power. Sometimes those on the outside of society join together and overthrow. Nothing new under the sun.
So what does this have to do with Ren.
Hi Ren is effectively telling us that he knows, through his own hardships, that we are not alone.
How many people in the world feel alone? Whilst you are a church, other organisations exist that offer an equivalent way of helping. But are these funded enough? We pay taxes. But we all know those taxes are used to pay for war and not for peace.
And so, a man called Ren, who loves music and showing off (read his backstory and see what he used to do as a kid), not in a bad way, just in the way of someone who sees the skills he has and wants to share that.
The man called Ren decided to make a song about his struggle. Watching about his making of this video is, in my mind, more powerful than the video itself. He had about 30 minutes to get the whole thing done. 4 takes and then off to hospital for months of medicine after being misdiagnosed for a VERY long time. The damage that the misdiagnose may be permanent. His struggle is real. And he has opened it up for you all to see.
And we see it. We recognise it. We acknowledge it. And we acknowledge his honesty. The way that was done is affecting people in a way that has more of a connection to humanity than then need for the imaginary.
As human beings, we need to look after ourselves. First and foremost. But we can also reach out, helping hands, paying it forward, hoping that we are good enough to understand the pain of others. And at worse, being nothing more than a comfortable space to allow someone who was lost to find their way. We must never dismiss someone else's pain because we don't understand it. And sadly, too many organisations do that.

Nothing can replace the memory of the pain. Nothing can turn us away from the path we must take to work through it. And THAT is what "Hi Ren" is saying.

"folk rap" !!! that's perfect, i loved it!! i was so excited to see this reaction video of hi ren by a church. i'm a 72 yo christian woman, and ren (after the Lord, of course) brings great encouragement to my life daily. ren states that he is an agnostic and his song lyrics reflect that. the fact that many of his songs contain biblical references shows me his struggle. i pray for his full healing, mind body spirit. ren's vast fan base is largely composed of sick/crazy folks like me. and ren is one of us. ren's character and his transparency (as displayed in his short thank you video to his fans on his 1mil subs. ) in his lyrics and life has endured ren to millions, and i just love the 'lad' and his music. while hearing this art, many others will be encouraged to realize that they are not alone. it's like validation for a solitary life of chronic physical/mental illness. ren speaks to our community and acknowledges our lonely lives, because he's lived it worse that most people can comprehend. i just wanted to say a special thank you for spreading this. but don't stop here, his catalog is large - top tier. ren never puts out anything less than his best, and challenges himself to improve with every project. always great!!! kathleen bts renegade

Its not Good vs Evil at the beginning.
It's 'A battle with the unconscious' (IE: The Jungian 'Shadow Self').
Ren even quotes Jung ''The more intense the Light, the Darker the Shadow it casts'.
BOTH Voices are necessary for our psychological growth (even though the Shadow's Truth's sound painful (EG : Part of Ren DOES want wealth, fame and conquest).
The spiritual 'Battle' is to synthesis those 2 Voices into a higher, better integrated Self.
Ren does this at the half way point when he says 'I'll lock you inside'.
This 'Hegelian Synthesis' of 2 Voices forges his transcendance & rebirth as he stands.
Thus crushing the spiritual 'coal' of his divided self into the 'diamond' of his higher Self.
And then we hear a new Voice ('The Devil') furiously ranting at that synthesis.
It sounds powerful and scary.
But in reality its just the empty egotistical bluster of his old skin being shed.
A bit like Golem falling into Mount Doom still reaching for the ring under the grinning delusion that he's about to become omnipotent.
But in reality his fate is Dust.
And what emerges (stands) from that Dust (cremation) is another new Voice.
Ren's Higher (Diamond) Self.
This non-Dualistic take paints a very different picture of Good vs Evil where...
Evil (Dust) is really an illusion we become attached to and can shed.
It's not an equal & opposite force to the Good (Diamond) 'Selves' we strugge to become.
And BOTH Voices/Selves are essential ingredients in that eternal synthesis & Dance.
Bottom line - The battle between Good & Evil is NOT the battle between those 2 Selves.
It is the eternal battle (dance) to synthesis those 2 Selves into a Higher (Transcendant) Self and thereby self improve and evolve towards the ultimate archetypal Good (God).
IMO all 'Monistic' (non-'Dualistic') religeous traditions echo this understanding.
PS: Re 'You can't get to Heaven just by being Good' (another video on this channel).
IMO : 'Yes' you absolutely CAN get to Heaven 'just by being Good'.
The Pastor does his congregation no favours by teaching them otherwise.
Nor by teaching they are intrinsicly unsightly in the eyes of the God who created them.
This is a profoundly misguided and Dualistic interpreation of the Christian narrative.
It's not what Christ intended and I appeal to him to reflect on this and his own 'Shadow'.

What saddens me most is that it’s often the very biased, most closed minded people are the ones who seem to suddenly go blind and deaf when true wisdom appears right in front of them. What makes it even more hopeless and annoying imo, is that those ignorant know-it-alls also seem to be ones who have the most fanatical beliefs and most dogmatic views (which they cannot help but spread 24/7 with those typically overly loud and inexplicably self-assured voices as if we really need another pandemic). Did I mention that I can get somewhat annoyed by such lunacy? Anyway.. I meant to reply to this insightful comment, so back to that (apologies for bad English, not a native speaker).
Having studied mysticism from different belief systems for many years, one of the most amazing things I discovered was that they had very profound similarities in their core systems, a unifying principle that overcomes dualities being one such example that appears to connect just about any mystical system out there, be it Cabalistic/Hebrew, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Taoistic, etc. Interestingly enough I also discovered that it was especially where the ideas of the mystics came in conflict with the dogmas found their own respective religious systems, that the most similarities could be found across totally diverse types of mysticism. The most profound wisdom is universal and has its eyes wide open, senses purified, and cannot , will never be restricted to the confines of dogma.
Another striking similarity that connects mystical systems in a way that transcends all religion, is that the at its core mysticism also transcends language. Whatever happens after the death of the Ego and becoming one with the All, can’t be put into words (the Dao that can be talked about is not the real Dao). That ineffable realm of das Ding an sing, of Platonic Ideas, Lacan’s Order of Real, etc, can’t be described. But I believe that it can be felt. It is present all around us imo and we can feel it sometimes iin certain precious, vulnerable, authentic places. Ren’s Work for me is such a place. It can be for all who have eyes to see and ears to listen.

You lost me at "evil is an illusion"... man... It hurts me so much to see so many people that are so narcissistic, that they believe that as humans in a universe so vast, that it's impossible for there to be a "higher power" that actually put us here in the first place. Also, I would be willing to bet that the people that are non believers, who are quick to point out that Christianity is wrong, have never read The Bible, particularly the New Testament, which is all about a man/God that numerous prophesies in The Old Testament ( dates written have been proven) were about. I have no hate for anyone that doesn't believe in God or Jesus and I don't expect to change anyone's mind over the internet. It just makes me sad that there is division between us over something that is all about love, mercy, forgiveness, HOPE, and righteousness.
While I respect your opinions, there are a few points I have to disagree with. First of all, Ren's message is intentionally explicit. He is expressing not only worlds of pain, but also intense anger. A kind of anger that can be expressed with vulgar language. Secondly, telling viewers to not watch the original content or anything else by the artist is extremely immoral in my opinion. Ren is an incredible artist and deserves to be heard without being censored. Lastly, as someone who has a similar background to Ren, I can assure you that hope is certainly not lacking in this video. In fact, I think that discovering Ren has genuinely saved my life. Just because he is expressing intense, justified anger, does not take away from the hope he spreads to people in varying walks of life.

I’ve never seen your channel but I am really glad to see you react to Hi Ren. As a Christian I certainly don’t agree with all of Ren’s views. But I do believe God is using him to build bridges and spark conversations between people of radically different backgrounds, lifestyles, and beliefs. I think people in the church need to see this and be exposed to more of his art. To get out of our bubbles and better understand the world we’re living in and what people are going through, where they’re coming from, to have empathy and love.
Ren was very sick for many years, in extreme pain and “unable to participate in life”. With misdiagnosis of depression and bipolar, M.E., no doctors had help or answers until he was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease. Before that he turned to the spiritual world for answers, describing himself as a spiritual nomad, but still finding no healing or relief. He considers himself agnostic. His songs Dear God, Depression, and Insomnia demonstrates pain and searching when he was in a darker place, as well as mental health struggles. Much of his music is about pain and struggle but with hope in the end. Heretic and Ready For You, as well as Hi Ren are good examples. People struggling with mental health, with the division and destruction in this world, need this message of hope. They need the true hope we have in Jesus. But if resonating with Ren’s music helps them to not feel alone, gets them through a difficult time, to a healthier place mentally, I’ll take that for now!
Ren is an incredibly gifted musician, singer, and lyricist who has worked very hard to hone his skills. He has an amazing ability to connect emotionally. Truly a once in a generation talent. And has so much potential to do good. I would love to see you react to more Ren. His songs Sick Boi and Power tell more of his story. I saw someone suggest his 1 Million Subscribers video. That will give you an excellent understanding of his heart, what he’s been through, and what he’s passionate about. Money Game pt 1, 2, and 3 tells more of his perspective on societal issues (be sure to watch the lyric video for pt 2). Suic*de talks about his own experience with that issue as well as having lost his best friend. And For Joe is a tribute to that friend. And the other songs I mentioned above.

I know quite a few Christians who could do with stretching themselves beyond their "bubbles" to engage with the majority of humanity, who happen not to have been raised Christian, & offer some empathy & compassion without judgement. More than a few times I've found myself shaking my head & sighing when asked by a Christian friend why I spent time talking with a homeless person or whatever.... o_O I find it frustrating when an ill-educated heathen such as myself seems more prone to acting with what I regard as basic human empathy & compassion day-to-day than many Christians I know!! LOL ;)

This is hardly a reaction video if you have already watched it! Ren's Music is really connecting, honest, real, and about humanity as a whole, he talks about mental health, the difficulties we all face and most importantly, he delivers a message we all need to hear.
Why did you cut out the last part? That is the most powerful message ever. And you decided to cut it out. Why? Could it be that it does not serve your purpose?
I never trust a Hi Ren reactor that cuts off his ending dialog. If you agree or not you're using his art to your benefit(reactor channels) the least you can do is let him say his message in his words.
A message of Hope.
Pastor it was the tree of the knowledge of good AND evil. One tree one fruit even. And the eyes of them both were opened. Ren other than saying that Christ dwells within him and beside him, he also alludes to the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that were thrown into a fiery furnace by Nebuchadnezzar and are unharmed as a man who appeared as the son of god in the flames protected them from the fire.
The difference between Ren and the commentators her is: Ren is real.

No, you've got it wrong. I can personal attest to the hope I've found in this song. As someone who's struggled for decades with depression, born partly of guilt, this song has helped me to become less judgmental of my mistakes.
The hope Ren offers is in his acknowledgement that we are imperfect, and consequently CANNOT live up to the standards set by your god. He's saying accept that we are fallible human beings who have darkness and light within us - to stop beating ourselves up about our failures and imperfections - relieve ourselves of the constant burden of guilt implicit in religious concepts of "sin", or that we are "born in sin".
His message was in the line, "I learned to relax, soften, and that dance got easier". Think on it.

I am a believer and a huge ren fan. Even his songs that have questionable to christian lyrics are just a reflection of what a dark time he went through health wise for most his life which made him understandably angry and made him doubt everything.
This is direct proof of why religion and art simply don't co-exist in any real way.
Showing two 'religious people' a deeply religious song that is also high-art in the most meaningful sense, and yet while being religious, the piece also isn't given to any specific belief system (despite using certain terminology that may hint at such), and they can't even parse it properly, can't even begin to understand the depth of it.
It's a very clear and obvious indictment of the mental imprisonment idealistic/theology-driven thought inflicts on people, especially creatively.

@@GodisgoodATT16 I did watch the entire video, my point was simply that as Christians, they saw it *entirely* from a Christian perspective, neglecting to understand that he is making a point about human beings using religious thematics etc. And yet a lot of people, like these guys, seem to think it's just proof that he is 'on the right path' to finding 'JAYSUS!' etc etc.
I'd argue they didn't especially 'agree' with Ren as they saw it as a Christian message, when it wasn't intended to be a Christian message but simply a broad spiritual message.

If you've watched the video he recorded back when he still was so sick he almost couldn't eat, and actually thinking he may die from the illness, still being incorrectly diagnosed, you would understand that he been through what many never experience in a lifetime. And HOPE is personified by him when he stands upp in this video, that part is filled with emotions. So no it's not sad that so many people are being touched by this song, it's wonderful!

I suggested this a while ago, but I’m glad you’re getting into his catalog! He has quite a bit that is too explicit. But he also has a ton that is powerful and really worth the conversation
Ren is the idol of home. I'm a 20 yr veteran of war and want nothing but peace. His speech at the end is part of what gets me through life. I've been suicidal, I am suicidal, although I'm seeking help. Someone who learns to dance in his/her own feet......if the light is bright, there is a deep darkness on the other side. Rest easy, be still, let God take your feet and let him help you complete that eternal dance. It is eternal, just because you have been to the hospital, just because you have been to counseling......that doesn't mean REN doesn't still exist. REN will always exist in those of us that are tormented by him.

I deleted my previous, it was a little harsh and I don't want to come across like that. Mental illness healing starts somewhere, and Ren has helped a lot of people find their journey out of illness. Saying this as a Christian, that's the Bible extremely literal as it should be, I think it's not right to tell people to not go down the rabbit hole. To suggest doing it outside the audience of children, I understand. I would encourage you to journey down that rabbit hole that you may be afraid of. Some songs with no language in it would be chalk out lines, how to be me, crutch, these are just a few of some very deep emotional songs. I truly hope you choose to look for their into Ren and who he is as a person. He is agnostic , however, I hope you do not allow that to be the deciding factor to not look deeper into his story and music.

I grew up in a Christian Pentecostal church in California, literally lived there, in the back of the church, I remember every now and then my dad, the pastor, would feature various performers, and some of them were like Ren, and some of them played rock and roll, and sometimes people played jazz. My dad was like, "Let them play, let them share something with us." My dad the pastor (a musician himself) knew that music is healing. So I was 10 or 12 or 7 or 14 and I would hear these people performing, and it was so better (sorry Dad) than my dad's sermons, which were great, all about Jesus and being nice and stuff. But the music would always get us, and dad let that flow. We all are connected.

Censoring music takes out the impact the song can have. This song is extremely important, it has nothing to do with telling people to consider doing harm to themselves or anything along those lines. Just because a topic is covered in a song doesn't mean that is the intent of the song. This song and a lot of Ren's music is absolutely amazing. They tug at your heart strings and make you realize things that are typically lost in this noisy world we live in. This song is expressing in extremes what most people are dealing with despite Christians or any other religious group condeming people who struggle with mental health issues - just let god (whatever that is depending on the religion) into your life and it all gets better; sure wish this was the case.
I enjoy your videos, and I have watched for a long time - I plan to continue to do so. But, you saying anyone who watches this should not look further into an artist while condeming him just because you refuse to be open minded and look from other perspectives than your own is down right unfortunate. This is the biggest problem I have with any EXTREME religion honestly. People can't seem to separate their EXTREME religious views from art or anything really. I would highly suggest you look into more of his work: Genesis, Seven Sins, Wicked Ways, Power. The message this man brings to so many is amazing. This hits home for everyone on some level. Subbed for more Ren reactions

I am so thankful that God put this song on my radar almost a year ago now... I am a Christian.... have been since my youth, but I have experienced multiple seasons of backsliding since my teenage years (am 49 now). Around this time in 2023, this song was blowing up on the "reaction channel circuit". I saw this video, and I was immediately moved in multiple ways. Something about the way that he portrays this internal struggle would bring me to tears almost every time I watched it (and I watched ALOT of reactions)..... While I love Ren's artistry on this and many of his songs, I no longer listen to his music BECAUSE of the lack of hope that I ultimately discovered there.
But while watching these numerous reactions, the comparison that many reactors made to this song was "Intro III" by NF. I had heard (and dismissed) NF many years ago although I can't remember why.... I guess I wasn't ready yet for that level of introspection. But God used this Ren song to point me to NF, and ultimately, I'm currently on a path where I'm getting healthier mentally, physically, and spiritually. I'm attending a church on a regular basis, I'm reading my Bible, I'm meeting with a Biblical counselor semi-regularly, and I'm still rockin' out to NF on the regular (sometimes I'm in a Mansion mood, and sometimes, I'm in more of a Hope mood, but at all times, I try to keep my focus on the One Who can point me out of those "Mansion" days.
That's what landed me here too.... I often check out channels reacting to NF, and I love your guys' Christian perspective and message on these songs. I'm glad that you include song's like this one from Ren as well, because I was once one of the people binging all of the reactors to Ren's music, and if God could use a blunt instrument like this song to point me back to Him, then I'm sure He can do the same for others as well.
IF you are interested in a Ren tune that is quite beautiful (not a rap BTW), and one that you wouldn't have to censor at all, I would recommend (purely from an artistic perspective) the live version of Ren w/ Chinchilla singing "Chalk Outlines".... it's about a person struggling with the mental issues revolving around taking anti-depressants.
This song IS a factual account of what he actually went through. The fact that he put himself out there for all to see is beyond worthy of acknowledgment, which you gentleman sadly glossed over. These type of judgments are why it’s so difficult for people to “believe”. I think you guys were to hung up on his use of language you didn’t approve of and missed the message of hope which is one of the lines in the song that you were seemingly excited by but were dismissive of everything else. I wanted to subscribe to your channel and help you spread your message but I can’t in good conscience do that because of your inaccurate judgment of a reality based piece of art. His song about his trials and tribulations does spread hope and teaches not to give up especially on yourself which as you pointed out Jesus preached to the masses regardless of background or status or appearance. Thanks for reacting to this true GENIUS. It would be worth finding out more about who he really is to help with understanding of what & why he produces these amazing preformances. There are several interviews by reactors you might look at. It really would help when reacting to any more of Ren's creative works.

I was going to suggest that these guys listen to it again with an open mind, for 9 minutes to put their religious preconceptions to one side, and objectively listen to and consider! what Ren's saying. But they seem not to bother to read (or at least respond to) our comments......
Ren is amazing person and very humble too
As I am suffering myself from double depression, depersonalization, anxiety disorder and a chronical pain disorder (e.g. 20+ days with headaches / month) for decades by now I feel so connected to Ren and this masterful piece of art he created and gave us. Also my "creative I" can understand his struggles so well. I wish I could hear the hope side stronger or at all. But Ren gives hope to hear hope some day. He is inspiring for so many people across the globe, across cultures and across religions.
This was very interesting reaction, and a more open-minded and measured response than I have seen from some persons of firm belief. I congratulate you both for that. Please, however, do not assume that absence of belief in a God or Jesus (or other faith) immediately means that a person without such beliefs is without hope. For many, that is completely untrue. Instead of your final motto, "Keep your nose in the Book" - by which you mean your English translation of the Bible - I would prefer to say "Keep your nose in the books" - investigate all sources of learning. Deep truth and insight does not reside within any single book. That aside, I suspect that there are many times when our views align. Keep safe - and please listen to more Ren. He is an inspirational artist.

So glad to hear your guys' take on this song! Even after hearing it hundreds of times, its still a wild ride.
Something also worth mentioning is that this is a live performance. He has a lav mic on his gown and his guitar is recording line-in on some gear that I believe is fastened to his back/waist . (Or something along those lines.) He also spends a lot of time on mastering, particularly the vocals on this track. (He's constantly turning away from the mic, which leads to very tedious work!)
This man is a bundle of pure skill, talent, and dedication. Sings, raps, plays all his instruments/makes his own beats, and he does it all without a record label! I'm glad we got this video and hopefully there are more in the pipeline!
What you talked about at the end is called spiritual bypassing. Hope in Jesus so that you can deny your troubles and pretend everything is OK. That's not what Jesus preached. It's this kind hypocrisy and putting up a front that drove me so crazy growing up in the church. The reason people are drawn to Ren's music, in my opinion, is because of his honesty about difficult things. Have the courage to play his music uncensored and have a real conversation about it. Ren, despite calling himself an agnostic, is showing Jesus' love and compassion to other people in difficult situations here in a way you cannot by sitting up in your ivory tower and passing judgement on everyone who is not a Christian.
WOW, can’t even finish your reaction , so blinded by faith to see a man who has struggled tremendously through out his life but brings the very serious issue of mental health in todays world which has helped millions of people, I didn’t think I could be more disgusted with religion but thanks to you two for taking that disgust to a higher level…

Been waiting for you guys to check in on Ren. He delves into all music genres and created a few of his own.
Just because someone is fighting darkness within themselves or in their life doesn't mean they aren't bringing a message of hope. In fact, it's the exact opposite. People like that, like Ren, exude hope in their humanity and humility to not shy away from what makes every one of us human. To think you are above that somehow is the height of arrogance. It's a lesson everyone should be brave enough to take in.

It's his journey. It's his story. We learn and relate to portions of peoples journey. His story is valuable, real, raw and worthy of hearing.
Ren has TONS of 'hope albums' - well - hope tracks- and in fact almost every song of his has a message of hope and enduring. You didnt seem to acknowledge with what you said that the end of the song - AND his after message were BOTH hopeful and positive messages.
I recommend you guys watch all of Ren's videos. He has his finger on the pulse of what's going on in our culture, his voice is prophetic - e.g. "Chalk Outlines," (i.e. The 'studio' version with animation) "Money Game ,Part II," "Suicide," "The Tale of Jenny and Screech Trilogy", "Dear God," "Lost All Faith," "Seven Sins." It's definitely not cut from some non-challenging shiny-Jesus-people mold , thank the Lord. This is a guy who's gone through hell on earth and has documented his honest struggles in his art unflinchingly-oe that resonates with millions. He's to be lauded for his bravery and tenacity. P.S. He does offer 'clean' versions of some of his songs.
Lacking hope, are you trolling? The guy is a personification of willpower and hope! Please dont put a link in your video telling people to contact you for help if they are struggling when your response shows that you obviously haven't got a clue what people in similar situations feel or need. Ren has helped thousands of people with his music. I highly suggest people discover more about Ren as a person and his music , The last thing struggling people need is narrow-minded people like you.
This song and Ren saved my life from a dark place i could not get out of, hopelessness caused ironically by a betrayal by someone of your faith. Ren gave me Hope. He taught me to dance again. Open your mind and heart.
To me, religion isn't the answer, or the source of morality, but I appreciate your recognition of the human struggles we all have. There is no winning, since the foe is within us, not an external evil. We create the 'demons' it's a human struggle. Increase the peace 🕊️

I have the most painful medical condition known to man. I advocate for people with intractable pain - that’s 25 million people in the US. Being in pain, mentally of physically,
will break you. None of us in pain are completely unscathed from the psychological side effects: anxiety, depression, ideation.
Ren came along
when I needed a different view of myself in this world. Ren brought me back to myself. And to some extent, to faith. Children shouldn’t watch this. You should watch more.
Ren is connecting with and giving hope and inspiration to so many people. Go check out his other work and make your own minds up.

As a person who became a Christian at a young age, I have suffered these battles my whole life. The self-sabotage did not leave when I accepted the Lord. I am sure that is on me. I also think it is wrong to censor ourselves of uncomfortable perspectives. God is truth and I am not afraid to listen to music that is non Christian. The only thing I would say about this video is Ren seems to say the evil and good are equal and they battle on equal footing. We all know this is not true. God is eternal and satan is a created limited being. Still the battle is real and it does feel like my flesh kicks my ass more often than not. This can lead me away from Christ or help me to rely even more on His grace. I have chosen both paths, but in truth I always feel better when I trust in Him. I wish I could just do it more often.
Hi, I found your channel because of your NF reactions and really liked them. After 3 or 4 of them I thought it might be interesting to see you reacting to Ren too.
This reaction turned out to be different from what I have expected but I personally like to see different perspectives. I don't have to agree with them but respect them.
I personally think this song is full of hope. Ren is an amazing artist and really helped a lot of people. I think everyone should see his work ( except small children). Because everyone should take a look outside of the comfort zone and be open minded.
