  • Hey folks. Just wanted to let you know this generator is now on sale at Tractor Supply Company, as of 9/30/2021 for $179.99. That’s a great deal for a generator I’ve had great experience with and just bought a 2nd one as a backup. A few links below to some of my startup items I used as an Amazon affiliate link. A portion of the sale could be received by the channel if you decide to purchase. Thanks everyone!

I am full time off grid. I have multiple generators already. The mini sportsman looks like it could be economical compared to my others. dont need much. but i have a 4kw, a 3.5 kw and a 2kw. might have to sell a couple. I like the eco inverter generators. Update: 9/29/2023. Shortly after i watched this vid i caught one of these on sale for less than he paid, i think 149, in desert tan. It works fairly good on regular stabilized gas with SEAFOAM in it. Works good. I muse it to run my 120v tools when doing work on the property.

While I have a big Westinghouse generator to plug into my transfer switch for the house, when it gets loaded up running the entire house the THD makes the computers act kind of funny. Got one of these initially for just running the computers, but found myself using it for pretty much any time I would have to run an extension chord outdoors more than 30ft. As long as you realize it's only rated for 800W the things work great. The 10 vs 7.5 oz change is more because people were filling to 10 oz and then not having the things on a level surface when running it.

I want to mention the 12vdc output can run high at 17.5 ~18 vdc. At least on my GEN1000i & others have mentioned. I confirmed with 3 different volt meters. Tech support confirmed that 17 vdc is normal and will work with 12vdc items. However, it did burn out my small 12vdc LED after 30 seconds. I dug into the manual PG 15 (top section) schematic The full wave rectifier also does not have a capacitor so there are ripples on the DC output /also seen on my oscilloscope. That is why a volt meter DC reading will not stay steady. Not the best design on the 12vdc output. However I still like the generator for the 120volt output. For this price it is a good deal!

Sloppy voltage regulation. It's like the old 12 volt wall warts that are around 17 volts unloaded until you draw the rated current from it at which time they drop to 12 volts.

    • @able880
      @able880 10 місяців тому

When you put it on economy it will drop to 14 volts - if you have a flooded cranking battery and the crank current is low - charge it at 14 volts till it gases - then change from economy to full run - let the battery rise to 17 volts for a little while -
It will de-sulfate the battery at that higher voltage - I do that with my truck and equipment - that way the battrey's are good for 15 yrs or so instead of 3 yrs -

@@BrianWatersOutdoors I had worked on generators in the offshore oil industry for yrs also I'm 3rd generation -
I didn't see your video on running a 5000 BTU AC - I use 5000 BTU units it my house -
I live in the deep rural south in hurricane alley lol -
I tried that sportsman on a few AC units - one is a Fredrick high efficiency that draws 415 watts on average - it would not run it -
It did run a 5000 BTU GE it draws 450 watts - something that most don't know is an AC units current draw is rated at 80° ambient outside temperature -
So the Fredric high efficiency pulls 415 watts when the temperature is 80° outside -
When it was 105° every day my Fredric was pull 525 watts - and my GE was pull 550 watts -
That little generator might start that AC but it's questionable weather it will keep it running -
In my place the temperature inside was often 85° during the heat of the day -
One of my window units compressor was kicking out on high heat also - it was a older 5000 BTU unit rated at 550 watts but at 105° it was drawing 700 watts -
In the oilfields when generating our own power we watch how much current is being drawn -
My pole power has been knocked out up to 9 months - in my case it doesn't matter - but I also know power production vs fuel consumption - I'll send more on a second tex -
If a text is to long in rural areas they won't be sent -

@@BrianWatersOutdoors that is a good generator - on economy the fuel efficiency is about 7:1 that means it generates 7 KWs per gallon of fuel burned - I ran it and measured it vs load -
Since it has a small engine there is not a lot of lost fuel in running the engine -
Conventional air cooled generators that run at 3600 RPMs up to 2800 watts generally have a 3:1 efficiency and diesels 4:1 efficiency - propane is 2:1 - at 25% load - there highest fuel / air efficiency is at 25% load at 3600 rpm - the larger the set the more the cylinders also the speed play important roles on fuel efficiency -
Each HP generates up to 416 watts AC or if it's a DC generator as used on cars it around 300 watts out put at 12 volts per HP -i don't remember the exact number -
If you belt drive a car altinator with a 3 HP engine 1 HP is lost due to the belt transmitted power and 2 HP goes to driving the altinator -
I bought the sportsman generator to have as a jump start in my truck - it's hard to jump start trucks with diesels - but if you have a good 20 amp battery charger and a generator they instantly start up -
If you get air cooled gas in a can at chain saw shops it doesn't go bad like gasoline does - I had a Honda 650 watt camping gen I used for jump starting sense 1982 - it never failed me and that air cooled gas was always good - it's just benzine or we call it drip gas - it's natural gasoline from natural gas -
They do make stationary engine that runs slow 350 rpm so they have a 25:1 fuel efficient - running slow it burns the crude oil 100% or bunker c oil 100% -
A 800 watt stationary engine gen can be 3 tons lol - but also can run continues for several decades or 100000 hrs or longer depending on the load and RPMs - I've seen some in the 1980s that had run steady sense the late 1920s - they use oil instead of water for cooling and run at 250° + engines run at higher efficiency at high temp as to burn all the fuel and leave no carbon behind - -
