  • My dad bought his Sportster 1200 last summer and while he loves it it does ride rougher than he was anticipating so we're taking the initial steps in creating a more comfortable ride. We're starting with the front and replacing the stock fork springs with Progressive springs to improve the ride. If these work out well he'll move onto the rear next.

I have a 2018 48 and like you said the stock suspension was less than desireable, even with the "premium adjustable emulsion shocks" on the rear. I did a stock height adjustable Progressive monotube fork kit, 13 inch progressive 490 sport series shocks and a daytona steering damper. I know not everyone wants to spend a bunch of money on a newer bike, but I can assure everyone after completely building my motor (s&s 1250cc, forged flattop s&s pistons, feuling 505/515 cams, feuling hp+ lifters, feuling endurance valve springs, hammer performance pushrods, buell bronze oil pump gear, s&s teardrop intake, bassani road rage 3 stainless exhsust, vance and hines fp3 tuner which I am replacing for a Thundermax ecm, dynatek efi ignition, screamin eagle plugs and wires, the list goes on and on), the clutch (barnett extra plate clutch pack, barnett billet pressure plate, barnett 25% diaphram spring), replaced every body panel except for the tank with carbon fiber body panels, changed to mid controls, new bars, seat, 2 fuel gauges, a tach, oil temp/level gauge, Brembo radial calipers, Brembo floating rotors, Brembo brake pads, xr1200 master cylinder and so much more. There is literally nothing I haven't touched to upgrade and if I did it all over again, suspension would 110% be the first thing i would upgrade!

You can do it with two people. I took about 10 feet of dental floss and doubled it up. Threaded it through the spring and washer. That way you could hold the dampening rod up. Then I compressed the spring and had my girlfriend slip the c-clip on.

Hello, does the kit would lowered the bike? Or only softened everything up for more comfortable ride? Planning to purchase the kit for my 883, but doesn’t want the bike to get lowered at the front end.

Did put same oil level for LH and RH? I read newer sportys got LH and RH different compression and rebound set up, as mentioned in service manual too.

Where did you get the springs from? Which brand? I'm thinking about this for my wife's Sportster

I kept mine on the bike not knowing that the damper in the left hand side is threaded in. That was a fun surprise 😂
