I'm an experienced player, and last night I wound up nearly killed by an unexpected horde of fast shamblers. I opened a window to a small single story home to let a Zomboid out. While bashing it's head in a second came out, then a third, then 10+more. I ran straight into a low fence (instead of E-vaulting it) and I tripped on the landing, scratching my leg. While getting up the ones that jumped the fence lunged knocking me down again. While getting up I shoved the first one, second one scratched my neck, somehow my hand was also scratched as well. Full panic setting in I hobbled away as fast as I could, bandaged all the wounds, took beta blockers, and used the fence lines to pick them off. Was the first time in a while I had a close call, reminded me why I play this game!

at first I tried to sneak as much as possible, but now I noticed that you'd rather clear out as wide a path as you can handle, if you sneak into an area, when fighting gets heavier you start drawing in more and more zombies from all directions... just make sure you have safe space to back up into while in combat...

Imo the stealth is mostly from your vehicle use as it can cause much noise. Strategically or otherwise!

@@SlagNasty I do remember a day when I wanted to build a small base at the Rosewood lake next to the bussstation, I backed up the van a little and was suddenly surrounded by at least 50 zombies coming from all directions, so I had to walk back to base, the gated community...

@marcdc6809 yah the noise matters. Backing up a bus with speed demon may as well set off shotguns. In MP I specifically removed my muffler to make more noise.

Sneaking is a trap. You will always be spotted eventually so every zombie you leave alive is a liability. The best solution is to methodically remove them until there is nothing to hide from.

    • @marcdc6809
      @marcdc6809 Рік тому

@@ShivKnight1 I also learned that, you need a certain battlefield area where you can kite a manageable hord around and kill them off gradually, but if you left too many alive on your way those are also likely to join in... and that might soon become a bit too much

If its an outside horde and in a suburban area, try to run into a house and then get out the other side. It slows the zombies down immensely. From there, you book it out of there.

Alarm clocks. Not only can they be an alternative to a watch before you find one but they're light enough you can keep some in a glove box or fanny pack. If you need a distraction they're pretty good and can help you avoid getting caught off guard by hordes that you think might be around but haven't seen.

On looting runs dont sneak or run/sprint until you get close to the target location.
Don't run or jog ever UNLESS you know you are safe, have a nearby safe place to rest and want to build some sprinting skill.
Honestly train yourself that the more panicked you are - the slower you move.
Though it is a lot of fun making a sprinter/fitness build and blowing people's minds with your love of a good run.

Always remember houses and windows are overpowered in zomboid. Killing zombies one by one is easy so if your in a urban area split them up.
The best scenario is a horde goes through a house and many different windows to get to you and you can slaughter them piece meal

If youre early game in the suburbs and clearing out house to house looking for loot, make sure to mark the houses youve cleared and then turn on visible annotations in the minimap. Start clearing house to house by walking theough backyards and kill any small groups you can along the way. If you draw too large of a crowd you'll have to decide to fight or run away, but either way youre going to try to break up the crowd. You can enter a house youve unlocked, such as a back door by quickly tapping E to open and E to shut behind you and then walk out the front door. If you want to fight you just circle around the house and start picking off zombies on the edge of the crowd, or if you want to eacape you just walk to a previously cleared house, enter on one side and exit on the opposite and hopefully youve made all the zombies lose you completely.
Having a relatively safer zone marked on your minimap with all the cleared houses means you know where to go when you start to irl panic and try to quickly decide where to run for safety.
Oh yeah, if things ever get really messed up and youre in a 2 story house that had a bunch of zombies break in, dont forget that you can pretty safely jump out a second story window and make your escape (as long as you arent morbidly obese in the game lol)
Of course, this is realy just an early game tip for when all youve got is level 0-1 combat skills and some random kitchen utensils to protect yourself. If youve leveled and have good weapons, all you need to fight a hoarde is right click, an open field, and a plan to escape if you suddenly realize you forgot to bring enough water lol

when shit hits the fan sprint away. Make sure you dont trip. Sprinting away is always a option. Also to make sure you never encounter a unexpected horde is to always check around you. Take it slow...

the real trick to combat is to fight in the big parking lots where you can make big circles getting all the zombies into a ball then you can fight them easily though this all goes out the window when you add sprinters to the mix

When I see a horde, I know I don't have the gear to fight them, so I run for my life. Although I overestimate my abilities with a group of 5 or 6 zombies and end up dying.

as a multi hit enjoyer i generally just always fight hordes whenever i see them (very long zombie spawn times so basically clearing areas out) but when it gets too much or im at high exertion i just run around trees or buildings and that usually makes them lose you or it atleast splits up the horde

I like to train hordes of 10-20 zeds. As a retired knife-skull from BlOps 2 zombies on all maps (except Der Rise[sp]), I'm accustomed to clustering dozens of zeds into a group, turning around to take some out, fleeing to gain space, reloading, and lining up the iron sights of a Pack a Punched DSR. Spent 2-3 hours per session doing that back then, and if the player didn't eventually get winded after smacking so many with a bat or baton, I would gladly train zombies in PZ for >30 minutes. >:D

There are also: Spongies Clothes, More Bags, Mo' Crops, More Gloves, and More Vanilla Food (I think). Fillibuster Rhyme's Used Cars adds more cars, and there's some that add military vehicles.

I usually go on loot runs when I'm running low on gas and my tools are going to break. I lure the horde as away as possible from the place I am gonna loot and run for my life to the place I was going to loot. not the best but it trains a lot of running and fitness so its a win win

Hoard? One bullet? Walk a bit then shoot. Afterwards start running to get out of view from more potential infected then make your way back.

The best way to handle surprise hords is ironicly to be preperrd and not over exstend your character d limits if your going to fight when your exhisted balance out the debuffs eat food to get a strength buff and use beta blockers to not get a stress debuff
i learnt this from once starting a new world in rose wood on 8x pop but insted of disabeling zombie spasns i made it so they came back every time the chunk was unloaded for 12 hours on top iof that i allowed them to trigger house alarms I had 5 fitness 7 strength died day 7 becuse i could not clear the base area before fhe helli event with 670 kills

I stand m ground i take pride in my massive kill counts and believe it or not 1 or 2k hours makes it alot less risky however for beginners and normal player stealth is the way unlike what most big zomboid youtubers would have you think massive kill counts and combat aren't always the goal i mean 3k kills may seem ike it but most of it is caused by my incompetent driving so yeah i agree with him.
