  • This video is an introduction for new collectors and beginning customizers about what is involved in making custom figures for your 6” Star Wars Black Series collection. I talk about the process and share some tips on how to get started. I also some of the custom figures I have worked on, both completed and in progress, and some of the head casts and 3D printed pieces I picked up recently for upcoming customs. Some great places where I've purchased head casts and other custom pieces are Outer Rim Traders, Scoundrel's Stock, John Walker Customs, and Two Suns Casting.
    When I first tried customizing, I was pretty intimidated and had no clue what to do. If you're new to the hobby and interested in making custom figures, the best thing to do is find other folks who are already doing it and learn from them. Instagram and Facebook groups are great for this! Be encouraged, start small, and get creative!
    Thanks everyone for the support on the channel. If you have any questions about the video or how I did something, please ask away in the comments. I'm very happy to share tips and techniques that I've learned in this fun hobby of Star Wars collecting and customizing!
    Please check out my channel for more of my Star Wars collection and how you can make awesome dioramas for displaying your collection!
    I'm also on Instagram @red_wagon_dios and Facebook @redwagondios

    This video is awesome. I'm not into Star Wars figures but the new Indiana Jones figures got me interested and I bought figures for the first time in almost 2 decades. I've been collecting all of them but unfortunately it looks like they might be done with it. I'm probably going to have to make my own if I want to finish off the line but I have no experience

      Very cool Joe, I'm glad you enjoyed it and hopefully got some inspiration out of it. Hasbro definitely left out a few key characters from the indiana line. My advice is to follow other customizers online and just mess around a bit with some cheaper figures, then you'll grow in confidence.

    Ithorians (Hammerhead) actually have short squat torsos. The Jar Jar arms would work but you need Ithorian hands....I'd go ahead and get the rest of the kit from OTR or Two Suns. If you buy the arms/hands you could just cut the hands off and add them into the Jar Jar arms.
    This saves you time and a lot of headaches adding joints ....and when you DO add joints I'd highly recommend the Revoltech ball joints. They are nice, tight, easy to install, and with a very VERY light sanding, paint sticks just fine and after using a Krylon spray sealer there is no paint rub.
    I'm currently making a Clone Wars s6-7 Maul using the shirtless Maul figure and the kit with animated style head from Two Suns. I know theres a 3D printed Ruler of Mandalore (and also Mandalorian Throne and back wall) for sale out there. My friend Joseph Glidden runs Fetts Palace (fb group) and his shop on fb is Moff Glideons Customs....Joseph makes some awesome stuff dirt cheao- ARC Trooper Kits for 20 bucks, Bad Batch Echo or Republic Commando Kits for $30 (these are used with Black Series bodies) and his Ruler of Mandalir kit has Mauls lower cyborg legs, lightsaber, forearm gauntlets, shoulder armor, lightsaber, and a new head sculpt and I think its 15 or 20 bucks....I'd like to get one but I bought the Two Suns kits some time ago- everything except the forearms and I'm using the forearms off a Guavian Enforcer for my Maul along with the shirtless body and upper arms, the archive Maul head (although I got an animated style cast), Bespin Luke upper legs, and the cast cyborg legs that I gotta put joints in....although Joseph's kit would be quicker and easier I already invested n gotta give it a try with the Two Suns kit....
    Also I think Two Suns is using more flex-res when making their parts.
    Idk if you've ever used flex res but it has a feel like an actual hard rubber action figure and its quick, clean, and easy to dremel. This would be ideal if they have a Hammerhead kit.
    Sorry so long but I get super hyped discussing customs!
    Keep on building man and keep up the great work on your channel.
    I'd like to see more custom tutorial videos.
    Now I'm off to ebay to find those Cantina Band instruments!

    • @RedWagonDioramas
      @RedWagonDioramas  3 роки тому

      Hey Chris, thanks for watching and for the comments. Yes, I like the flex resin pieces I've gotten from ORT - like Bib Fortuna's head for example. I am familiar with Fetts Palace (bought my Book of Boba Fett throne from him). Good comments on the Ithorians torso, I didn't think of that. For the hands, I think I'm going to use some larger Marvel Legend hands and maybe add some sculpt to make the fingers long and gangly. I will definitely check out getting some revoltech joints too, thanks for the tip. Just gave you a sub on your channel too! MTFBWY!

    I miss when 5below used to sell 6inch figures. In hindsight, getting extra $5 figures could've been a nice source for fodder for customizations. But I wasn't really into customizing back then and only [relatively] recently have been considering dipping my toes into it.

    Nice. Wondering where I can get some custom Luke and Vader arms made at. I just got in those new 4 inch wal mart figures, they aren't bad for what they are, but the arms aren't really poseable x.x So would be great to change that at some point

    • @RedWagonDioramas
      @RedWagonDioramas  3 роки тому

      Hmm. I'm not sure where to go for that. Haven't done any customizing with the 3.75" figures. You'd probably have to find a cheaper figure with decent elbow/arm joints, and repaint them.

    Can you help my please? I have an idea 💡You know marvel legends figures right? There are most of them with suit on. My plan is to make a figure with an white shirt. But do you think a white marker can cover the black hands suit? So that it's look all white? I want a figure without jacket but only shirt. I don't know if you underhand my idea 🤔

    • @RedWagonDioramas
      @RedWagonDioramas  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I understand. You would need to use multiple coats of white acrylic craft paint. Marker probably won’t cover well enough. Also the Deadpool in the 2-pack with Hit Monkey has a white suit and arms, so that might save time and would look better. Not sure exactly what you’re going for though.

      @@RedWagonDioramas Arcade figure has to white hands. But the problem is that if I'm going to pop into a black suit it will still seeing black part. For that I need to pull off all the hands from joints that help arms to move..

    • @RedWagonDioramas
      @RedWagonDioramas  2 роки тому

      Hmm, still not quite understanding you on this, but in my experience, white acrylic paint is the best way to cover up the original black plastic.
