I have the old formulation 78% and new formulation 82%. Not only is the menthol note gone from the open in 82% it is crazy weak i can barely smell it. The 78% old formulation was a projection monster I would get compliments left and right but the new formulation is almost just a skin scent. I wish I knew this before buying the new bottle.

The first time I tried Layton about 2 years ago from a sample decant, it blew my mind. It lasted 14 hours and had this addictive and very appealing smell. Finally bought a bottle last month and it just doesn’t have the same effect on me. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the smell and it’s not new anymore. But I’m pretty convinced the formula has changed quite a bit. Mine smells more floral, fresh clothing kind of smell on the opening. The one I tried years ago had this rich apple vanilla kind of smell that was addictive. I know it’s not fake because I bought it from selfridges but it’s so disappointing.

Friend of mine recently bought one of the new bottles with 82% and 7-digit batch code, and he said that he immediately noticed a drop in performance. We decided to experiment - he brought it to work, applied it to his wrist and sure enough, no more than 3 hours later I could barely smell it on him. He works in a different department so it's not like we are next to each other the whole day. The scent is still great, but that performance is not something I would ever spend that kind of money on.

I bought reformulated one (2021 batch). It was really weak not as rich as pre-reformulated decant i had and performance awful (last 4 hrs). I used 15-20 sprays and threw it back to my shelf. After almost 3 months, i decided to give it another try, i was very surprised that my layton really potent and perform much much better almost as good as decant i used to have. If you guys had problem with new batch lately i would suggest to let it sit for a while and try again. I would definitely leave my layton sit for one or two months hopefully it will get stronger.

I spent last 2 weeks wearing this.
      - the juice gets a bit stronger from last time (i don’t really think it will get any stronger)
      - both pre and post reformulates are 90% similar. If you wanna detect the difference, you have dig your nose in. I would say they are very close and ppl around you wouldn’t notice any difference. The whiff of it still amazing
      - reformulated one less spicy but woodier (this is weird but i think it’s rounder). The menthol vibe ppl talking about is gone.
      - i get solid 8-9 hours longevity. Strong projection for first 2 hours ( the juice is really strong almost get me cloy. Don’t overspray it!)
I don’t think it’s woth to pay for overpriced old formula batch. They are 90% similar as i mentioned. There are plenty better option in the market. I would suggest you all to try xerjoff tony iommi.

Macerating or aging works for some perfumes better than others. I found that aging PDM works well due to the large amount of naturals in their formulations. I find that the new batches of Oajan, however, are just awful, full of synthetic airy woods, so I did go and snag a bottle of the vintage stuff on eBay. Some are worth it, some are not.

I have a 2015 bottle that was running low so I found a tester (new in box) from 2019. I purchased it less than a month ago. Both are 78% alcohol but they smell different. The 2015 lost some of its top notes while the 2019 is how I remembered the 2015 when new. It’s splitting hairs though. I have a few frags that have changed over time. People always complain about reformulations but in my experience, many fragrances get richer and lose a little something off the top when they’re sitting on you shelf for years. I have a couple that the alcohol must have evaporated and are now straight oil. I can’t comment on the 82% batches but I suspect if you’ve never smelled the original, you’ll still be happy. One more thing, Al Haramain Detour Noir is close that I can hardly tell the difference between this and Layton.

Anyway, no issues with my bottle, subtle menthol in the opening which is perfectly balanced, if this was dialled up I think it would be off putting. In terms of performance, I never had an issue but I do think it’s got even stronger over the last 6 months. Heavy scent trail which is deceiving because I thought it was gone, but got a compliment about 2 hours after I applied it from about 6 feet away. I do use 10-12 sprays though. @@JStorm310 I've been testing it more often, since I originally bought this. I found testing this to be a bit hard, due to the ISO E Super in it making me a bit nose blind. Others could definitely still smell it on me.
Depends on how many sprays I put on. Projection is pretty good, I'd say about 2-3 hours of strong projection, and then eventually turns to a mostly vanilla scent. Overall, when I spray about 10-12 sprays on my skin, it lasts me about 8-10 hours. On clothes, the vanilla scent lingers easily for about 2-3 days. So if you reuse a jacket/coat, you can spray it on there and get good bang for your buck.
With the sillage, I'd say it's moderate. As in, the cloud trail doesn't linger as long as I thought it would, but still there.

Your decant most likely was from a bottle that had time to macerate and get seemingly stronger over time. So you should give the 82% bottle more time to macerate since the bottles don't get time to macerate as soon as they are filled at the factory. After letting the bottle macerate, then I recommend you compare the two
