I’m a big fan of redolessence too, but that video he did yesterday was way too vague and all it did was make everyone think that their bottles might be fake.

Worth being aware even with reputable sellers that sometimes their returns process may be flawed. If they aren't doing correct checks then some crooked buyers are returning fakes for the real stuff.
I think people need to keep in mind that when you buy at a big box store like Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom or Macy’s you have to keep in mind those places have significantly higher overheads. I mean one they have physical people working in the store who know the merchandise and also allow you to smell before you buy which means immediately they are loosing money through lost product. Also not to mention uh rent electricity insurance and so on. So yeah of course they have a higher cost vs a random site with little to no overhead other than a warehouse and a computer. Hence major price difference. People locations cost money which is passed on the consumer who asked for it.
and those places (Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom or Macy’s) have the newest stock too. The PDMs I bought was between 1-2 years old.
So glad I picked up Layton from fragrancebuy during Boxing Day! I’ve been wearing it almost everyday since 😅
I got a problem with a fragrance company in Canada where they were selling PDM for $260.00 n I went to check out they were charging me $309.00, I got out of there and then went to another company that did the same thing. so I'm thinking r they legit or they're fake companies. I admire u, my friend, I don't know how u did it. I gave up the PDM conquest. I been trying for months. Have a nice day. Stay safe.

So, for example, while shopping from the US you will see USD converted prices. At checkout you will see the CAD conversion. Check your bank statement. You’re still charged the USD price plus whatever customs charges.

When a fragrance house supplies department stores, the store will typically take a 40% margin, so it absolutely makes sense to use discounters as well to get their brand out there

I think he said to be careful. The discounters are only as good as their grey market distributors. There's no guarantee what part of the world these bottles are coming from. Do your homework. Search for the discounter and where the cartons are imported from. You can easily find that information for US retailers.
He never said don't buy from discounters. A perfect example of the game Telephone happening right here.

I’ve bought most of mine from discounters. I’ve had a few I was weary about and have asked the question to seller. I’ve come to realize that many of these fragrances from discounters have some minor flaws which is why they won’t sell them retail (ie - cap slightly loose, or color is slightly off, or box not perfect). That’s the risk your taking. Nonetheless I’ve never had an issue with discounters!
I did. I sent back Layton and Herod because they were weak and the bottom of the bottle was different than what I've seen from other retailers.
Like I’m seeing other people say, I also picked up Layton on Aura fragrance before they sold out and it is most definitely real!
I bought two because of the 78% & 81% ordeal of PDM fragrances. Where the, "Lily of the valley." Ingredient had to be replaced. I bought one from Aura Fragrances and one from Jomashop. They both arrived and thankfully they were both 78%. I sprayed them both to test out any differences and wouldn't you know it... The Aura Fragrances one would actually last way longer and project much more than the Jomashop. Im not saying the Jomashop one was fake.. but that the Aura Fragrance one must have been one of the more older batches. 😮
@@VS-iv5uw you are lucky I just got one from aura fragrance Layton but mine is the new formulation 82 percent. I thought it was fake but I have bought a lot of fragrances from them and trust them.

i've purchased several PDM bottles from Maxaroma and they have been perfect, the Layton bottle i just go has poorly embossed/raised PDM lettering. the "de" and "Paris" are embossed much less than the Parfums and Marly and look suspicious. this shouldn't happen on a premium $350 bottle of cologne. i will be happy to send anyone a photo for their opinion.
Same thing with the Layton I recieved today. I got mine from fragrancenet. I am not sure either? I have two other and they don't look like that. Also the atomizer was a little crooked out the box, the box had a rip on top and inside. It did come wrapped nicely though. Also the top of the cap is not as grainy as my other two I bought at retailers. I'm confused. Fragrancenet is legit and I have bought several times from them without issue. Maybe that is why it is sold on the gray market due to imperfections.
@@marios90221 Gents Scents should pull this video down. He misinterpreted the app PdM was using that just pulled every site that sold PdM, not who was authorized to sell it.
The real bottles have the embossed words gradually fade into the background. It looks cheap and shoddy but that's how the company designed it.
I purchased Alexandria 3, for example, for about 325 euros on the Xerjoff Universe website. I purchased the same fragrance at a discounter for $150 usd. Smelled EXACTLY the same. I've never made a retail purchase since. If you're really that paranoid, get a sample first and compare.

@@A12Diary Jomashop. The tester was $150. The only difference is, you get the fragrance, with its cap, but without the fancy presentation. If you have several fragrances from Xerjoff, however, the fancy presentation isn't worth the additional $50.

I own a big old bottle of Herod. I got it directly from PdM's Paris boutique. I won it on Sebatian's channel.
I got a smaller bottle of Herod from franet at about the same time. Who knew that I would have won.
Both bottles are just alike. Heavy cap and solid performance. Spray 20 shots on ya, and you'll go nose blind.
Spray it on. Don't put your nose right into it right away. Let it come to ya, and you'll be smelling it for hours.
Been shopping the discounters for some time. All's well folks.
My thing is I'm subscribed to a monthly fragrance company, and I got sample of Layton from them and loved it so much I bought a full bottle directly from PDM online store. When I received my full bottle I was a little taken back by the fact that it smelled different from the monthly sample. To be honest I dig the sample more than the actual bottle.
Not to long ago Parfums de marly reformulated a lot of their fragrances not sure if all of them but they lowered the concentration of fragrance oil in them, maybe the sample you had was from a batch previous to reformulation or it was simply maceration
You also have to consider that the sample that you got might have macerated for a while versus the bottle that you got directly from PDM. I'd say that you have to give the fragrance a little time after first spraying, like maybe 2-3 weeks, to see if the fragrance changes at all. Sometimes when you first get a fragrance, the oils might be too "fresh" and not fully mixed with the other parts of the fragrance, so time evens everything out. At least that's been my experience with some fragrances ever since I've been collecting.
@@Kenoji8 the only difference is the full bottle has more spicy in it than the sample. It seems more for cold weather, where the sample has more of a freshness to it
@@8Soul88 Layton is definitely a fall/winter fragrance. I personally don't get a fresh vibe from Layton. I've sampled the original. I don't have Layton but I do have Lalique White In Black & Al Haramain Detour Noir (Layton clones), and they don't give off fresh either. Where did you get your decant from?
@@SidSauvage I may have described it wrong. Not fresh, but more smooth. I just ordered some detour noir as well. The monthly subscription is from scent box.

Not me checking all of my PDM’s when redolesence put his videos out because I got some from discounters
Would like to have a list of those trusted discounters he mentioned. The ones he knows sell legit PDM but are not listed on PDM’s site.
I have bought hundreds of bottles from discounters. There a select few that are reputable ones for sure!
I purchased PDM Layton,Pegasus and Kalan for about $180 average,they were all authentic just “expired “.Usually a little over a year old when checking the code.I got them from the typical discounters.For 125 mil at $180 it puts PDM on par with most of the best full retail Diors,Versace and Armani.
How do check the code

I got a bottle of Herod from discounter shop, found weak performance. The bottle seemed original, and I have good experience
Went to a famous department store, sprayed Herod there, same weak performance
My first doubt is Herod got watered down

Pretty sure I got a fake althair... my bottle is kindof clear I can see the liquid through the orange color if I hold it up to the light my haltane and Layton don't do that and also doesn't seem to last as strong or near as long on my skin. Does anyone else here have althair and is it kindof transparent?thanks
soooo a very random thing is i got althair from nordstorm which is 100% authentic and it is slightly see through that is definitely legit both of my layton bottles are also not see through so it checks out my man👍

Ash I got stressed because I read discontinued not discounters... in the middle of the video I was like where is the discontinuation talk! Then I reread the title and I was like ooooh... LOL
I ordered Layton off of Jomashop. The packaging and wrap all looked legit until I opened the box and the inside arm that holds the cap was ripped on one side, and upon first spray it sprayed perfectly. It didn’t have a “dead” spray or two to get it going like most new fragrances do. It smells correct, and the batch codes are correct on both box and bottle. I’m not sure if I got a fake or maybe a used being sold as new. Any help is appreciated

Just going to come out and say it, after hearing about how Navitus conducted business with Ash, I unsubscribed from everyone who continues to promote because it causes me to question the motivation of anyone who endorses such shady business practices. There's a reason the main channel is the only channel I pay to support.
Hmm but Ash even said those UA-camrs are not aware of any of the shady bits. Those people are well meaning and just excited at getting a shot.
Redolessence is the only one I find shady. He was the original pusher of that brand. And now he’s trying to turn people away from reputable sites like Jomashop? I’m suspicious of him.
Funny you just posted this. Frangrancebuy just got Layton back in. I purchased one right away, and it being my first PDM I am happy and not nervous at all. Recently purchased Tom Ford Black Orchid Parfum and it is 100% real. Fear not my fellow Fragrance people 👍🏻👍🏻

At 4:37, were you using the PdM site store locator link to see what shops carried PdM? If so, that link isn't working right now for any of PdM's sites in various countries. I don't see an address typed in the field on your page. I think that map was picking up all the fragrance sellers regardless of whether PdM sold to them or not, but who knows? You could be right.
You are correct - I just checked the store located and NONE of the discount sites were there - not one! I think an explanation as to where you got this map would be helpful…..

and for the problems of reformulation of perfumes... have we talked about it? HEROD has become a real eau de cologne that smells almost nothing etc. it would be brave for influencers to offer objective reviews of perfumes and that their chain should not only have ads to encourage people to consume more and more perfume. Yeah Layton 2023 smells weak compared to the old bottles.
And the retail stores like Neiman Marcus have old bottles as testers but sell the new bottles to customers.
So you smell something amazing in store then, if you buy it in store, when you get home you wonder “What the heck happened. This isn’t what I smelled earlier.”
Happened to me with both Amouage (2023 reformulations) and Parfums De Marly. Very frustrating.

Yeah, I saw Steven's video too. He was warning about the dangers of buying off Facebook and said that "reputable sites" were getting fakes. The video was more focused on Facebook, but he said that, and I think the amygdalas of a lot of people went into overdrive regarding discounters

@@extragentsscents I'd like to see you add the atomizer assembly with the nozzle cap off to your presentation. That's the toughest part of the bottle to fake since their proprietary in many instances, and the houses change them up from to time. It would be great for anyone who has a bottle with a similar batch date bought at discount.
By the way, if the fake was so so so close that you wouldn't know if it was fake, why do you care?
The discounters sell testers as well. I wonder if PDM sell their testers along with brand new bottles to these discounters?

When Gents uploaded this video, PdM was using an app called Stockist. All Stockist did was use Google to find every online site and store that sold PdM, NOT who was authorized to sell it. My guess is that PdM was informed about this video and deleted that app. Gents Scents should probably do the same with this video.

Hello everyone! I have a question whose answer I havent been able to find. Many reviews from famous youtubers show PDM layton (Original) and the 78% batch says 2015 at the botton of the box. If it was realeased in 2016 why does it says 2015? Can anyone help me out with that?

Does anyone know if PDM change the design of their boxes recently? It used to be striped boxes but I ordered Percival and it came in solid color box. Is that a new packaging or is that a fake?

What do you think about those who sell PDM on Facebook?
Question: Are the discounters selling new/recent batches of products (from PDM, Tom Ford, etc.) or is stock that had been sitting around, unpurchased by major retailers like Macys, Nordstrom's, Sephora, etc.? I think this is a valid concern. I'd hate to have bought old stock that might've degraded in some warehouse.

With all the reformulations an old batch is actually what you should want. Perfume doesn’t really expire.
I’ve gotten new PDM 2022 batches from Aura and Joma, but honestly I’d prefer older batches pre-IFRA reformulation for the higher concentrations

Try to compare the atomizer assembly with the cap off to a bottle bought from an authorized seller with a similar batch date. Check the inner rectangular ridges of the bottom of the bottle to ones in UA-cam unboxing videos. If those ridges are smooth in any places or not entirely well defined, you may have a problem.
Also reputable sellers on eBay sell 100 percent authentic fragrances like parfums de marly as well
Half of them are quietly the same people as discounters.
If they have tens or hundreds of thousands of sales and that "Top Rated Seller" logo, they aren't purposely going to risk their biz with fakes. Have snagged more than one $500+ niche tester for < $200. Gotta know what you want and watch and wait -- and pounce.

@Adrian Alonso Discounters sell on eBay under multiple screen names. Just as BestBuy, Dell, etc. It's just another outlet for them.
